So I got my Epic last week, and just flashed my first custom rom. That being, quantum rom 2.0.0. Since installing any DK28 rom, 4G has not worked -- It worked before I updated to DK28, and it doesn't work on Quantum or on the DK28 stock rom provided by ACS. I flashed the modem using the Odin method posted in the thread for the ACS stock, and i don't appear to be having any issues with any other services (GPS, 3G, wifi all work fine). What is my next step for troubleshooting? Can I just flash an old rom (DK17 or DI18) without Odin'ing an old modem?
UPDATE: After using the dial code *#147852# and running the Wimax DM tool, I get the error "Modem is in VI Mode" under MAC state. Any idea what this means?
how do you know 4g doesn't work does it turn on?
When i turn on 4g, I can't connect, and when i check on the 4g status under Settings -> wireless & networks -> 4G, the status stays as initializing and never changes.
i wasn't getting any 4g at home (i used to get a faint signal there), but i'm getting it at work now. So perhaps the 4g radio is just not as sensitive w/ 2.2.1. Who knows. Maybe try a location where u used to get really good 4g service.

When you turn on your 4G, do you see any available networks? Does the status sit at initializing? It just seems like if my radio was working, it would do something other than halt on "initializing"
My 4g won't connect and I hard reset the device....any tips? luckily I have wifi...at work.
IF you dont care for the deodoxed and prerooted for you stuff..I'd go back to stock and do teh update.zip method or just flash it with odin...I kinda had same issue with DK17 and flashing the DK17 modem...my 4g could not connect...went back to stock when DK28 came out, tested 4g and it worked..then flashed DK28 via the update.zip method and 4g works better then ever..its nto faster but before I only could get 4g in 2-3 places in my house..now I can get 4g in 90% of my house
is that the only fix with odin? I'm stock not rooted.....

I'm having this exact problem
Just Odin'd the stock image, and no dice for 4G there either.
Works well on viper DK28 3.0. GPS has been working great for me too. The best it has ever worked. The developer correct the few 4g issues his rom did have at release.
4g has worked on dk28 for me since my first flash of it. Matter of fact I'm on it now indoors while posting this.

For those with working 4g, what happens when you start your 4g radio in a place where you have no service? Does the status say "Initializing" and does the status bar icon stay gray?

u wanna input that code, *#147852# and go to WLANMacAdress, write that down, go back in to *#147852# this time go to wimax linetest, put the MAC address you wrote down in the WRITEMAC box in caps and no : between, then tap on the WRITEMAC button, device should freeze up for a little, then tap Write EEPROM, device should freeze for a little, then reboot the phone and turn on 4G
I still have no 4g, its stuck at initializing! GPS works fine and is very accurate but 4g is fubared.....

Odin to DI18, achieve GPS LOCK, Restart, Turn off again, Odin to DK28 using the Tarball. Use latest one click root. Then proceed to install any rom you want. Viper rom works with both GPS and 4g for me. Those were my EXACT steps.
I'm still having the 4g issue any ideas?

4G is extremely random in my area. Some days I'll get a signal, other times I won't. I think it has something to do with Venus being aligned with Uranus, the moon with the stars, and what color socks I'm wearing.

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same issue. I installed a DK28 ROM and noticed 4g stopped working. I went back to Stock and 4g still didn't work. It tried to connect and would fail. While trying to connect to 4g with any DK28 rom, it would attempt to connect, phone would momentarily freeze and pulse vibrate, and then reboot itself over and over until I turned 4g off.

Hey everyone,
After I did the radio update (after doing the full root) my 4g was really messed up. The 4g would just not stay on and kept going out and then coming back every few secs. I tried reflashing the radio and yes I also formatted the cache right after and going back to the old radio. Then I tired going back to stock and it was fixed but when I did the full root again without the radio update after, well the 4g was back to crap. I even tried a custom rom after the root and still no go. So after doing many tests I found out that the firmware for the wifi is different from stock and full root. I found this out by going to ##DEBUG# then WiMAX Engineering...The full root had 20100401 (im guessing its the date of the firmware) and the stock had 20100423. So after more testing this is what worked for me.
1. I took the image file from the first part of the root (PC36IMG.zip)
2. Then I extracted android-info.txt and wimax_25043_R04.img
3. After that I made a new zip file with those two file from above and named the zip "PC36IMG" (without the quotes).
4. Then I put the PC36IMG.zip on the root of the SD card of the evo.
5. Then I booted up to the bootloader (u know the screen with the androids skating). Then I did the update and reboot.
After that my 4g was working without getting droped every 5 secs
If someone else tries this please let me know so I know that I didn't just get lucky.
P.S. IM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING BAD HAPPENS (it shouldn't but hey **** happens lol)
Enjoy your 4G back!

I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM.
If when you are connected to 4G you can access the internet, only suddenly 4G it drops for no reason and switch to 3G and then reconnects to 4G and goes on and on, below is the solution. if when you are connected to 4G you can not access the internet at all, the below wont fix it for you and it is probably a problem with your rom.
You will need your msl code to fix this, loop up in the forums to to obtain your msl code from Sprint:
hit ##DATA# > Edit mode.
Put in your msl code
Chose WIMAX
Scroll down to Wimax_Idle_Sleep
Change the value from 10 to 300.
Click menu, commit changes and restart the phone.
This fixed it for me and i never drop 4g (when in good coverage) again.
Basically Sprint has some STUPID setting that tells 4g to go into "sleep mode" of no data is passed on the 4g connection after 10 seconds which is essentially disconnecting 4g.
The problem is it goes into sleep mode (disconnecting), but then rescans and look for a 4G signal > reconnects to 4g and if no data will be passed in 10sec it will do the same again in an endless loop.
10sec to put a connection into sleep mode is really low so change it to 300sec.

This sounds like the same issue. I wonder if that file sets the sleep time? Just a guess. I had the same problem and this fixed it.
Here is the thread where I found it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704845&highlight=4g+sleep
Oh for me the wimax idle sleep time was always 10 even with the 20100401 firmware. The only thing that seemed different was the wimax scan attempt time. In 20100401 firmware it was 120 and in 20100423 firmware it was 1. So when I tried to change it in the older firmware it said I can only do 5 - 300. So I tried 5 and still no fix. The 4g still drops in and out. Here is file I used.
Tried your .zip. Not good. 4G is stuck on scanning and won't connect. I'll see if going back to the stock radio will fix it.
Oh that didn't even happen to me but I was already on the old radio. Try the old radio and remember to clear the cache. If it gets stuck then go to ##DATA# and check your wimax settings. Let me know how it goes.
Ran back through the Simpleroot process and got 4G back. Whew.
Nice! I wish I knew exactly what causes this problem but hey if it gets fixed then I don't care so much lol
is this zip already modified??
All that zip has is the wimax radio file to flash it but the file is old now. If your already on the latest radio then i would not use it because it may cause problems.
im stuck in "scanning"
You may need to reflash the radios and wimix. Are you on 2.2?
im on original 2.1 update1
I have the newest baseband tho... 2.12.00.07.28
I flashed this zip and phone is acting a little goofy
3G is in and out also!!
is it possible i may have to reflash the original RUU and start from there??
Why don't you try 2.2 maybe it will work after that.
after i just installed that zip im now getting DATA call failures error code 67.
Yea that should fix it or see if there is 2.2 RUU file out. Sorry I'm not home so my responds are very slow lol.
I tried loading the Voodoo Lag Fix on my TMO Vibrant then my phone bricked! I loaded the stock rom back onto it and got it going again. Everything is working great.....only my phone wont connect to 3g anymore. I can go onto Wifi and I can make and recieve phone calls.
Do you think there is a system file that I lost?
Im not quite an expert on this so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Guys!
try going into settings>wireless and networks>mobile network and select wcdma
Ive tried GSM and WCDMA. neither work. Any other ideas?
are you sure that your place has a 3g coverage?
I had a issue like this when I did a test run on z4mod and my market wasn't working so I flashed back the stock vibrant rom with odin then I used kies to do the ji6 update then I rooted and flashed voodo and im back up and running my issue was with market for 2 days I couldn't download apps this fixed my issue good luck.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Ill give that a try. Thank You!!! It sucks not being able to get on the web when im not in wifi.
I'm new to flashing custom roms and what not. I used odin and flashed everything to the point, csc, modem, pda, pit the rom works awesome but i cannot for the life of me connect to the internet. the 3g icon or h icon wont' show up. in the status it says my network type is gprs and i'm roaming and my mobile network state is disconnected.
I'm with fido, the phone is unlocked i have never had trouble with data or anything until i flashed to a custom rom.
Anyone have the same problem or suggest how to fix?
Data Conn. Issue
Hey mate,
Have you gone into 'Settings', 'Wireless and Networks', 'Mobile Networks' and then 'APN settings' and entered your appropriate settings?
That should fix it if you define the correct access point.
Alex
hey man, yeah i did all that stuff, went in there, found my carrier, put in all the apn settings i can find and still nothing. when i put data roaming on then i get data and the edge icon comes up.
Hey dude,
That sounds strange, flashing custom (or even release) roms is never a guarantee especially with weaknesses in the way that ODIN communicates with your phone, What I would do is Re-Flash your stock rom through ODIN then use the "quick" install method from Darkyy.
I am running 5.6 like you, and I had issues doing it through odin (I kept getting random FC's), additionally, the rom; if installed from CWM will keep your apns and apps e.t.c. along with many settings and configs from the base rom you're using before the flash.
That is the best advice I can give you.
Alex
My config is a follows:
I9000 International
16gb SDHC
500HZ Hardcore Kernel
Darkyy 5.6
Whats the process for reverting back to stock 2.1 eclair rom?
Did you keep a record of your firmware version before reflashing?
If not, you may have to ask someone on here what your base firmware was.
Are you familiar with using ODIN? (The software used for reflashing)
Alex
I am having same issue to...I used 5.4 from Darky and it works well...same with DocRom 4.0 works and the next 5.1/6.0 don't work.
Both Darkys and DocRom are based some JPX....which seem to be root cause..
I've have the same problem. Tried eveything but still didn't work. So went to Samsung Service Centre to have my SGS firmware refresh. I notice after the refreshed same issue of data com missing. Told them and they when into the SGS to select the telco operator setting selection. Now data com. working well. Anyone know the SGS handset setting code? I want to reload to Darky's v5.6 again.
hi folks
i have the same problem... my provider is a virtual provider in the network of our biggest provider here in austria. i was using doc's rom based on xwjpa firmeware and everything worked fine without enabled roaming options.
since doc's rom is based on the newer releases (xxjpx, xxjpy) i' only able to use data connection if i turn on roaming. it also shows me that i'm in a roaming network. i guess the cause are the xx firmwares. xw and xx are european firmwares but i do not know the differences between them. maybe someone has more information about the differences? currently i'm using xwjpa firmware because i don't want to use my phone with enabled roaming options.
hey um i'm having the same problem and thought replying here would be better than starting a new thread.
well i installed the rom without having any idea of what i was doing *stupid idea* so i didn't take note of my original firmware.
i didn't use odin to install the rom just clockwork recovery and the rom and everything installed fine except my data network. i can get signal, call, receive the only problem is i get no data transfer. any help much appreciated. if anything can someone help me step by step to reboot my phone to original?
just for future travellers
Sadly this isn't my own gem, but yeah. hold the power button down, wait for the shutdown menu, above the airplane mode there is a data network button, and it'll most likely say "de-activated" if nothing else has worked. Its ok to feel like a chump, I did after rehashing the hell out of this phone for a few days ( the wifes phone, my phone does exactly what its told. )
Anyway, yeah, this will probably be the reason for the lack of the icon "G", "3G" or "H" where it should be.
Dave.
I had an issue with Alliance rom. It went from wifi to 4g and I lost the prl and other stuff (said unknown). I only had wifi.
I was able to Odin back to stock. It took like three times as it would not move past the activation screen.
Now, on stock, I flashed TWRP recovering using ODIN, then used the CF root from Odin also. Phone restarted and while I have the 4g logo, I have no phone and the information is missing again (PRL). I do get wifi.
I just used Odin to reflash stock and it is still doing it. I also used the imei tool to restore what I had backed up (EFS). Can anyone help? What is going wrong?
Edit: Phone restarted with root BUT now I cannot make calls (it says roaming) and I am missing the prl and other things again. HOWEVER, I can use wifi, and 4g and no texting also.
If anyone has a clue I'd like to know, thanks.

I actually could not find the stock modem. I DID solve it.
1.) Odin back to stock. It will freeze on the activation screen.
2.) Remove sim card after shutting down.
3.) It will get past that and connect with wifi.
4.) THEN clock on roaming to turn it on with sim in.
5.) Phone will then contact US Cellular to "activate and program." It will finish after a few minutes.
6.) Restart and enjoy
In case this happens to anyone else. Thanks for the help (lol). I've had a Droid Eris, HTC DNA, and a Droid Bionic.
I have this strange problem where sometimes my modem does not work after a clean flash. Usually just making sure the data network preference is set to LTE solves the issue, and after 10 min or less the phone picks up the band. But I've just done a clean flash teamUB 1/11 and its been 24 hours with no data connection. This same build worked fine for this same phone a week ago, but the 1/19 broke the phone so I had to do a clean wipe and go back to 1/11.
I've played with data roaming options in CDMA roaming mode, set to domestic roaming, national roaming. Still no data
Any advice?
This is for a 900P (sprint) - Note that I am on CREDO (uses Sprint network)
EDIT - FIXED YAY!!! FULL LTE WORKING GREAT!

The issue started when I was forced to wipe my system data and do a clean install in order to get the phone functional after boot loop from 1/19 update. so yes, I would assume that the modem built into the 1/11 update I rolled back to (clean install) contained the modem. But, as stated, the 1/11 build was working fine for me before, and not now.
Is there a way to just update the modem itself on this build/phone? I've been wondering about that and wanted to try it if possible.

There is no modem included in TeamUB's roms.
First thing's first, what model are you using? Go to signature settings and write your model there, this way whoever is helping you they will know what they're dealing with.

No need to say sorry man, just mean it makes it easier. Haha you're signature says 900O lol.
1 Install Samsung USB driver for mobile phones
2 Download the NE5 modem one click flasher here
3 Put your phone into download mode (Turn off the device, press Volume Down, Home and Power Buttons simultaneously, Once you see the warning message, release all buttons, Press Volume Up to enter download mode, Now your device should be in download mode)
4 Run the file from #2 and flash modem (if NE5 doesn't help try the other ones).
I don't think it's a modem problem though. IMO it's either the rom or the operator..

The NE5 throws a <OSM> MD5 hash value is invalid error. I flashed the ND2 version and no immediate data connection, but from past experience it can take a little while for the modem to sync. No idea what causes the delay, but everytime i flash a new rom it can take sometimes up to 30min before it gets a data connection. Been 15min no connection yet.
Couldnt find a mirror anywhere of that NE5 one click flasher. Know of any other hosts? i googled to no avail.

Update:
I have restored a old backup to kitkat, modem working fine, instant connection. Then I did a system wipe, clean flash to cyanogenmod 1/20 update released yesterday.....no modem. Restored backup again to kitkat, then did a dirty flash to 1/20 cyanogenmod.....no modem.
I think the issue is 5.0 itself. The issue is so random, I do not know how to troubleshoot it. I've installed maybe a dozen CM's so far, and its been a coin toss whether the modem works after install. Sometimes it syncs up after a few min, and sometimes never. its really strange because I had the modem working fine on TeamUB from late december, through 3 or 4 updates until 1/19 boot looped it. Now after that nothing has gotten the data back on other than restoring to kitkat.
When i did the clean install to cyanogenmod, on the startup process where it says 'waiting to activate cellular service' it gets stuck there and never activates the data.
Also, when trying to flash the NE5 tar md5 you linked to, I get md5 error! Binary is invalid. Im supposed to use AP, yes?
EDIT - Changed preferred network type to 3G and after a few reboots got data! Going to change back to LTE now and give it some time to see if i can get it to sync up.

No luck leaving it on LTE. When I switch back to 3g I can get a connection, LTE set in preferences I get no connection, not even 3g. I've been testing around the city and at my home, where I can always pickup a LTE connection from past experience.
It seems that the LTE protocol within 5.0 is buggy for my situation. If it works, it seems to work fine, but when it doesnt work, it never works. So its either glass is full or empty

There are two versions of labels in Odin. The "normal" says "phone" the one I don't like says "CP". You have the Odin I don't like lol, so yours says "CP". That's where you put the modem. "AP" is for firmware/roms only.
Try these two modems, which I found on this page, NK4 for 4.4 while NKD is for 5.0.
Try Ktoosez kernel and also check your Apn settings, it's supposed to be optimised for CDMA phones and might help you.

Wahooo! Flashing NKD with odin and messing with the APN's has fixed it!!! You rock!
I took a look at ktoosez kernel, what exactly would it bring to me? Always interested in new tools......

Congrats! I'm glad it worked out Ktoonsez mentioned in the CM12 thread that his kernel was optimized for sprint/verizon phones in some way, don't remember what though :silly:
