Restoring backups and 2.2 ROMS - Vibrant General

I have run into a couple problems. When restoring a backup through clockwork all three times I have tried it, it gets stuck on the vibrant screen and soft bricks. I ten have to Odin back to jfd. What am I doing wrong?
Also I have tried three 2.2 Roms and loved them all. The only problem with them is that they all are incompatibale with the game I play most. Its a problem with the android id, and jk2 and jk6 not changing them, therefore everyone has the same I'd if that makes sense. The game is world war. Has anyone gotten this to work using the leaked jk6?

restoring doesn't change the kernel so you have to flash a 2.1 kernel after running your restore.

Thanks. Anyone get world war to work on one of the 2.2 ROMS?

hey, i play a bunch of S8 games and have had no luck restoring my games on 2.2 I must flash back to 2.1 to restore my progress. i tried swapping acount with my S8 ID while running 2.2 and it just started me over. flashed back to 2.1 and all my progress was gone! had to swap again with my S8 id to restore, almost gave me a heart attack!!

Something weird when flashing new rom

When I flash a new Tom I of course wipe data and cache nowhere my apps seem to stay intact. Its only started doing it recently. I'm no complaining exactly but I find it odd. Its happened with multiple Roms (vanilla sense and Froyo roms) any thoughts as to why?

It backed everything up the first time you used a Cyanogen rom, and will keep doing it every time you flash another rom with Cyanogen in it.
ah ok. Makes sense. Not a bad feature I just didn't realize it did that. Thanks for the help.

[SOLVED] Liberty 1.5 problems

I flashed liberty 1.5 on my gfs droid x. Now her camera doesn't work and the music player says it doesn't support the format for music she purchased from amazon mp3. Suggestions? Thoughts? I tried a full wipe to no avail
SOLUTION
I did a full wipe and flashed an update.zip (by materstock?/team black hat) that contained the latest ota updated radio, kernel, bootloader, etc...I was concerned that the kernel version appeared to be the same as before...hadn't bricked it yet (and would buy her the thunderbolt if I did) so pushed forward...
Reactivated phone with verizon and then tested camera and mp3. Works
"Honey, I flashed the stock moto software back to your phone - everything works now. Do you want to keep this or try liberty"
"Does this have blur on it?"
"Yeah..."
"I don't want blur"
I trained her well in the ways of droid, huh?
Long story short I reflashed liberty restored backed up apps and everything works. 1400 on quadrant..its not the 2800 I get on my g2 with cm7 but a good bit better than stock droid x (and undervolted too).

ive had one serious issue since installing liberty- it constantly will randomly reboot. ive had to switch to fission as fission is the only one that runs nicely for me with minimal blur but has the blur camera.
I installed 1.5 on day one. I'm also getting random reboots. Its only happened twice. Other than that best rom available! I'm already excited about next update!

HDMI Out
I love everything about this except I can't push the video out through the HDMI. Is there a work around or should it be working and I need to reflash?
To my knowledge none of the AOSP roms do HDMI out. I do believe at one point there was an app in the market that reportedly would send video out via HDMI, but I never used it.
i wish this would of worked for me. I tried everything to get 1.5 to work on my phone but have had nothing but random reboots. liberty 1.0 worked like a champ.
I tried the following loading my .340 rooted back up and loading liberty 1.5 , loading maderstock340 and loading liberty1.5 of course with doing a factory reset before loading liberty each time. My next try will be loading maderstock340, rooting, loading rom manager, and making sure i don't allow Google to load my backed up apps thats the only thing i can think of that might be causing an issue and has been done each time liberty 1.5 was loaded. If this don't work i will be forced to roll back to stock or look for another rom.
Any insight on what im trying would be greatly appreciated.
well it seems google automatically restores your apps when you do a factory reset.... Can any confirm that this might be the root of my issues?
Not everything blur is bad. There are a few blur apps that are just better than what is out there now or work better with the X IMO. Camera being one of them. That is what is so great about the Liberty Toolbox, makes it easy to add back the blur apps.
Helpp with Liberty
I recently just got Liberty. Only problem im having is with my contacts. Most of them got deleted except for the ones that were backed up to google, which was the ones i added while i owned my X. I gave up on restoring them but the rom wont even let me edit my contact pages...
Anyone know if how to fix this. Any help is appreciated!

You should have done a Vcard or .vcf back up to your sd card that way after you flash the new rom you can restore from the sdcard

[Q] ROMS LAGFIX etc.

I have a few questions.
I understand there are official updates for our phones 2.1->2.2 but they are operator based. So there are customized roms, that are with custom stuff.
I'm really intereseted in upgrading from 2.1 official rom to a custom, but dont know exactly which one to choose.
I once flashed a 2.2 but it bricked my phone, so i had it repaired (the phone didnt respond to any key combinations or anything at all).
So is there any point to upgrade if there isnt any stable roms.
And also why is everyone waiting for the official update from samsung when there are already 2.2 roms for 5800.
Lagfix seems like a thing to try out, but i want to be sure which rom is the best and so that the basic stuff works.
Don't know about others, but my reason for not upgrading to unofficial/custom ROMs is that I don't want to risk my phone (even if that risk may be small..)..I also don't have time to backup data, reset phone, re-install app.s, do settings again etc. which might be needed in the flashing process.
Besides, from what I read in this forum, none of the ROMs seems to be satisfactory enough & ready for prime time. But frankly, I am losing my patience fast & may soon go for a custom ROM if official upgrade doesn't arrive by end of this month..damn Samsung for taking sooo long..

Why don't you use a stock 2.2 ROM like the JPF?

is it safe and works fine just like the default 2.1 that we have in our phones?
Sure ^^ and you cant brick your phone if you dont flash your bootloader^^ jpf also works faster^^ i would recommend to flash a custom rom. Like lestatious one. Everything works well on it^^ have fun
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
just dont flash the bootloader and you can always reenter download mode.
backing up isn't that big of an issue, titanium backup backs up pretty much everything.
If you're planning on using titanium, just be aware that you should only restore non android apps when switching from eclair to froyo..i tried this and kept getting fc's. Just make backups of stuff in the individual apps like contacts etc, then restore them after you upgrade to froyo. Then make a full titanium backup of everything once you have your phone the way you want it. From then on you can just test any rom you like and always have a quick easy way of getting your stuff back. I recommend using astro to backup titanium so you can have a version to hand after flashing.
P.S. I use jfp ultra clean and it rocks my socks

Ok, i might try out the stock 2.2 rom... But what about lagfixes or are they even neccessary on 2.2?
Cause my current 2.1 stock rom is really laggy, i remove tasks to clean up memory but it's still kinda slow.
Well if you're flashing a stock rom I would definately suggest JPF because it's pretty stable. You don't necessarily need the lagfix though..I personally found it made things a bit strange with random hangs when closing applications. Oh yeah and don't forget to use the modded 3d gallery from SGS Tools (I use the "last" version). You should be able to install it via the "Upgrade stock apps" option. You can also use it to change your GPS pool to Europe if needed.

So the jpf rom isnt europe or just needs some configs like that? But is the stock rom the best option, i don't neccessarily need all those extra stuff like samsung apps and layar etc. Pauri mentioned lestatious rom, its on JPA, for example. Is each one one of those stock roms like an update with still some bugs on them or just converted from other phone updates?
I'm between that custom rom and the JPF stock right now..
Oh it's a european rom, it's just that the default gps pool is set to north america. I installed The modded 3d gallery as a work around for the battery drain bug that the stock gallery has in froyo. Jpf clean is what I'm using till theres a more stable lestat rom because I tried jp9, which was good, but the bloatware...oh my..

i tried the one click method, after the command running it said everything is fine you're rooted. In recovery mode i tried to install update.zip but it didnt work.
havent see any alternatives for 2.2

I am not a tech guy but this is what I usually do and do not encounter any problem using Streakdroid ROMs since I started using them from 1.6.0 to 1.8.1. if you are coming from stock 2.2 all you need to flash is the recovery.img (Streakmod recovery.img v 3.2.6 or v 3.2 ) so that you can flash DJ Steve's ROM on your Streak. You can not flash Streakdroid ROMs using other recovery images. Normally if you came from stock 2.2 they say that you no longer need to flash the amss.mbn (I think it is for baseband upgrade to 318) but I still do flash it to be sure. By the way, what baseband are you using? 318? If not, maybe that is what is causing the problem such as flashing lead lights etc. because of baseband mismatch. Also I would recommend to stay at 160 density, most Streaks encounter problem when changing density (as what I have discovered from reading different threads/post), I usually limit myself to 3 items on my install.txt whenever I use DJ Steve's ROMs, and I would advise for you to do factory reset after a complete boot of the ROM you recently installed, it usually fixes all the force closures of applications. I also clear my Dalvik Cache whenever I install a new ROM.
It would help if you could elaborate on what problems you are having. That way, it would easier to determine if it is the Rom version, app related, or install.
Give me like 5 min to get to a computer to type it all its faster then on my phone for me to type

ok first i started off wit the qdl tool to get to the android 2.2 wit baseband 318 i ran with it for a little bit and then i rooted and flashed clockworkmod and installed DJ steves 1.7.1....used that for about a month then dj steve came out wit 1.8 i downloaded and installed that through clockwork then like 2 days later installed 1.8.1. my main issues wit this was i was gettin alot of lock ups in games so i flashed the new kernal with the vol boost and fix for most gameloft games......still didnt help with the problems i was having with the games....
well yesterday under advisement from another user on XDA i did a factory reset....wow what a mistake....now during phone calls the phone app tries to force shut....im ok as long as i dont click the button on the screen to close it but i mean why should i have to....also tryin to get into the market freezes up my phone sometimes and forces restart...alot of that today and last night (restarts).....
in my install.txt i have the following
volnoppt
us140
i had to take the tabmail out....which i wasnt able to even try cause it kept forcing shut when i had that installed....idk if like i said i was supposed to flash other things...im not computer illiterate and i go to school for computer programming and analysis but im stumped on this....
also now that people have gotten 345 on their phones do people notice less crashes and are the games able to work correctly....i bought this phone for its 5 inch screen and im a strong gameplayer...i had a itouch 8gb but i have given that to my girlfriend so now im stuck wit this big ass screen with no capability of playing any games
:-(
Also the wifi if slow as crap I have a 40 mb down speed on my computer

Done with Bonsai, what ROM is considered the next best?

I have been running Bonsai 3.0.1 on my wife's Epic for a while now and TRIED to update to 4.0.x a while back, but got a TON of FCs and lock-ups. So, the other day, I saw the official 4.1.1 ROM was out and tried that...even did the suggested "factory reset" within Android. Well, Bonsai overwrote CWM with that new custom recovery they have and I'm still getting FCs and lock-ups. Went back to 3.0.1, but was looking to get a new/updated ROM put on...what is generally considered the best ROM out there for the Epic? Also, what is the best way to get ClockWork recovery back?
I run Cyanogen 7 on my EVO and love it, but noticed that CM7 for the Epic is still in beta with a lot of key features (camera) not working yet.
I know that no one wants to read another "what is the best ROM" thread, but I'd really appreciate some help here...thanks!

Syndicate is THE best imo
PS: make sure to enable journaling right after flashing it.
Best ROM
As I'm sure you've read before, every phone acts differently. Most people seem to gravitate towards ACS or Bonsai. For me, ACS was buggy and Bonsai was, while extremely fast, the worst on battery life.
I personally have had the most luck with the current MidNight ROM and more recently Simply AOSP. Even though there seem to be hundreds of threads on tweaks and hacks, most don't seem to take well to my phone. The big ones (No CIQ, for example) seem to be included in about everything now.
Give 'em a go, see what works. I can safely recommend the two above.
Yup id go with Srf 1.1.1 (1.11?) Best imo

Bonsai 4.1.1
SRF 1.1.1
Midnight series
Frankenstein
Urban Fury
ACE 2.0
Supernova 3
All are great ROMs
Not sure how to get the other CWM back. I like Bonsai's recovery But, if you use Quickboot and boot into recovery it takes you to CWM and not the Bonsai recovery.
Maybe you got a bad download of the Bonsai 4.1.1? Did you try to reflash it after all the FCs? Did you post in the Bonsai forum or Bonsai thread here?
You could always Odin back to stock and just start fresh that way also. Then just root with One click and get your CWM that way.
2 rules I follow about ROMs
1. No ETAs lol
2. YMMV
Everything with our phones...is phone dependent, they are completely different from the next Epic
Edit:
Sorry to the Devs that I didnt list ROMs from! These were the ones that were just on my sd card right now!

Use Odin Flash back to stock ECO5 rom.
You can then Flash back to clockwork using odin following the thread instructions for the specific rom you want to work with.
I like ACS Swiss Cheese it works great as long as when you are in a stock rom you get a lock for the gps before installing swiss cheese. There are several threads that explain load order for it to install correctly. I have had it running for near month now with no problems.
Thanks for the replies...I've been looking at Syndicate's ROM...seems to have a lot of people liking it at the moment.
As for Bonsai, I MAY give 4.1.1 another shot since I've been using MyBackup Pro to restore all of her APK+APP DATA, which may have caused some problems. I did have 4.1.1 working when I flashed it OVER top of 3.0.1, but the battery life was horrible...I'm talking 1/2 of what it was with 3.0.1. So, I tried a clean wipe/reset and gave 4.1.1 another shot...that's when I had all the FCs and freezes.

You should use Titanium Back and backup your information using nanroid to avoid FC errors. If just remember there newest Rom is only compatible with there own kernel. If you try another Kernel with it your won't get the stellar battery life. I am using a combination of Bonsai and anonymous gingerbread and it is working out well with me. I ran Bonsai and back up all my information on Bonsai then I flashed gingerbread and recovered the Bonsai Rom on top of it.

I would definitely go e it another shot. Try using the enable_journal zip in the Bonsai Downloads section first, then flash the ROM. That should help you avoid the FC issues until you get the installation errors ironed out.

From what I've read, coming from EB13 is the best way to go. Even if you Odin EC05, it still seems to have problems. Their dev, Randy, knows the ins and outs of why, so I would suggest Odining EB13, rooting with with their unlocker, then flashing their newest ROM.
I personally use SRF 1.1.1 w/ the Genocide 1.0 kernel, and don't have any major complaints outside bluetooth being wonky after each restart. For me, SRF is stable enough where I don't need to reboot but once a week, if that, unless I'm changing things around.
This. Path of least resistance for Bonsai is definitely ODIN'ing EB13. And 4.1.1 has great battery life in my experience.
Atm, the biggest deciding factor on ROM's to use has to be whether you want to stay on Froyo or do you want to be on Gingerbread.

I would also suggest using Titanium Backup and MyBackUp root sparingly. Not that they don't work but it seems many users troubles always start with restoring old data from Titanium/MBR. I have also found SMS Backup & Restore to be a good option for those wanting to save and restore your txts over using TB/MBR which seems to foul things up when restoring txts.
Don't install any data from previous roms unless it was done by Bonsai during the install. Totally avoid any system data. Old saying: garbage in garbage out...

I use Bonsai /w journaling. It is the only ROM that has stayed stable for weeks. Others go bonkers at some point especially w/o jounaling. No offense to ACS but I have yet to have one of their ROMs start and stay stable. Baked stuff is 2nd closest.

I have been on Urban Fury since launch day (March 29 I think) You get 1 FC on the wallpaper app on install and that's it. I have been beta testing themes and kernels and have NEVER had data corruption or force closes other than the one on boot. It comes with Genocide kernel and Wifi Tether 3 pre 14 works great. That being said, all of the ROMs are good. Its just a matter of what you and your phone like the best
