Hi all,
I've looked through the first 7 pages of this forum and can't see this question asked or answered anywhere.
I have my shiny new O2 XDA Ignito sitting in front of me and it is crying out for some sat nav software.
I have looked at TomTom navigator but from reading some of the posts on this site it appears TomTom 7 is the vogue. What are the differences between the two?
Is Garmin's mobile sat nav any good?
If I go for TomTom where is the best (sorry cheapest) place to buy it from on DVD?
Cheers.
Matt.
Garmin
Garmin Mobile XT is fantastic. I have it on my Tilt and it's as good if not better than the GPS in my car. It does turn by turn verbally which is a must. It even works in my pocket. You can have 3d maps or regular. It has traffic and automatic re-routing. It comes on a micro sd card and once you plug in the card it asks if you want to install. That's all there is to it.
The maps are great and detailed. The options are many. I love my Garmin and can't figure out why people aren't jumping on it. It's a one time cost rather than every month. Garmin is a great company to deal with and will be around when many of the others are gone.

Does it come on CD/DVD though as the XDA Ignito (HTC Diamond) doesn't have a card slot?
Matt
My dad got a seperate GPS unit with the Garmin CD and it can install and show the map just fine, but cant use the internal GPS so that's totally useless. Of course that GPS brick should be optional if your phone includes a GPS (I mean you pay for it regardless).
Had to aquire that online special version just to get the thing working
use TomTom Navigator 7 - specificly developed for the VGA HTC Touch Diamond. Works perfect for me.
TomTom, it's perfect!
i use igo8.
found it to be better than tomtom.

Rang Garmin and after 20 minutes they answered. They conformed you can buy their software on DVD but you have to buy the GPS receiver as well... something to do with unlocking the maps using a receiver code or something!
So as a result it looks like TomTom is the way forward for me.
When I go to the TT website it makes no mention of TT 7 and yt loads of you guys on here appear to be using it. Where do I get it from and how much is it (I know Navigator 6 is £87)?
Thanks in advance guys.
Matt.
TomTom7 is superb, in terms of obtaining a copy, a mere google search would probably locate it straight away, free or paid for
Would definately go for TT7 as they are what I would call the market leaders (for Europe anyway). I've used both and perhaps gotten used to TT7, but I have been using it for TT5, TT6 and now TT7 and it works with great map support for US, Europe and Australia. Suggest you google or download the cab from numerous folks here (...search!!) and then buy the maps (whatever) accordingly!
i have both tomtom7 and Garmin XT...diference is in refresh...TomTom refreshes position like 0,5 s and Garmin 1-1,5s
But i preffer Garmin ( we have better maps for our country for Garmin )
hey man go nav n go IGO8!!! better than tt7: faster, prettier & full 7digit postcodes in uk fresh speed cameras waypoints etc

I spent much of yesterday (to my wifes disgust!) searching this site and google for a link from which to download TT& and the only one I could come up with was this one

posted on this site by Mahmood on 2/06/08. Unfortunately it didn't work. I couldn't find any others... maybe I couldn't see the wood for the trees, who knows?

Just looked on their website at IGO 8. The site states that it will only work off the original SD memory card... Diamond doesn't have a slot!

TT7 also supports full postcode search with the ZIP plugin (easily found) and speed camera notifications

you need to crack it since it will only work off a SD card :/. Anyhow iGO8 ftw
TomTom?
IGO?
Garmin?
McGuider! (aka Sygic DRIVE)
Works absolutely great on my Diamond, uses a nice black theme which fits perfectly, has lane guidance, detailed spoken instructions, nice fluid 3D graphics, the lot.
As topic stated HTC legend Adroid 2.1v can install Garmin?
Anyone knows? Or recommend better GPS system for adroid?
thanks.
Hello there dirk877!
This is what I found looking for "garmin for android" on google: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=3860
The only other GPS software I have used (not navigated with yet, however) is the built-in Google Maps. Looks like it's working pretty good, have been running it while I'm driving my car from time to time.
On my last phone I tried both TomTom and Garmin, and got stuck with Garmin (WinMo)

Copilot is offline GPS?
any offline GPS to intro?
hi i have been using tomtom7 on my hd2 but it ddoesn't work as good as it did when on my diamond.
basically it quite often jumps onto other roads when it never used to. and i have noticed that it on longer shows you the satelite info. number of and signal strength etc. i could see this info on my diamond.
there isn't a newer tomtom is there?
thanks
What version of TomTom are you using?
I'm using 7.918.9193 which is supposed to be a special version for the HD2, and it works great!
I've also tried 7.917.9168, 7.916.9192, 7.916.9189 and 7.910.9185. All versions worked well on my phone...
I found this list a while ago. It shows the latest tomtom versions and the phones they were released for:
7.918.9193 13/03/2010 HTC HD2
7.916.9189 23/08/2009 HTC Pro 2
7.917.9186 13/08/2009 Samsung Omnia
7.916.9192 10/08/2009 HTC Diamond 2
7.915.9196 16/01/2009 HTC Iolite
7.910.9185 13/10/2008 HTC Diamond / Touch Pro
ye maybe its that, Im still using 7.450!!!
Hello people
I have messed around with a few builds and radios and roms and have finally found a combination that runs everything nearly perfectly. The only thing making me go back to use WM is IGO 8 because I can't find a replcement for it.
Does anyone use a satnav with the sd builds of Android ideally with uk maps?
Cheers in advance.
PS I did do a search first and I know IGO my way is too small!

There are 2 versions of IGO which work on HD2 with the correct resolution :
Motonav (Motorola's version of IGO) and IGO My Way (yes, there is a 800x480 version)
I tested both and prefer the second one (it's not as good as the WinMo versions yet, but looks a bit like IGO Primo on WinMo).
Try searching for "iGOMyWay_8.4.2.139242_Android_800x480.zip" in google, you should be able to find what you need.
You my dear man are a star and a gentleman thanks for your prompt response and info

Thanks

Hi why don't you use Google maps Navigator? its free and excellent
I will use the winmo version until it gets sorted cheers guys

Sorry should have said try copying your wimo UK maps across to the Android version
They should work if they are version 8.3
For the US, I've found CoPilot Live to be a good Android stand alone voice turn by turn GPS nav with announced street names (TTS). When using WM, iGuidance and iGO have been my favorite stand alone nav apps. That said, has anyone been able to get the Android version of iGO to announce street names like it does in WM?
Best to all,
R
hi

I'm desperate. Using Coredroid 1.6 NAND and cant find even one Navigation-software which is working properly.
My tries:
Sygic Aura: Woking good, but closes itself suddenly and without proper reason.
Navigon 2.6.1: Works great for a few minutes, but suddenly Android makes a hot restart (swaps to android bootscreen) and I find navigon in the main menu. not very comfortable if you are driving in a car and need to set up the destination every 5 minutes
Igo: Works, but the voice is stuttering. Its like .. "Turn...[break]..left in 100 [break] meters. Changing the voice had no effect.
Tried to wipe everything with clockwork and reinstalled again freshly: same problems.
Did any of you guys and girls experience the same problems and have any clue on how to fix on of that issues? I need at least one fully working gps-offline-solution and the 3 above are my favourites. I dont know if its a build- or kernel problem or anything.. the gps fixes fast with each of the softwares.
I tried to search, but people are issuing other gps problems like gps is working incorrectly or does not even fix, but thats not the problem I experience.
So please, share your experiences and oppinions or show me topics that could help.
iGo works good for me. Voice doesn't stutter.
using sygic aura without any problems.

thats the one I used and the sound was horrible =( Maybe its a rom-related problem, but then I'm wondering that no one else is experiencing this problems..
Maverick's not horrible

CoPilot Definitely! Great app and navigation is spot on!
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alk.copilot.marketplace.eu.full&feature=search_result
MOD EDIT: Just making sure noone is tempted to follow up on the statement you posted
I have tried alot of Navigation apps for Android on the HD2 and IMHO Copilot is the best visually and has never had any problems. Sygic looks really nice (similar to TomTom) but the position keeps jumping which is very anoying as I really liked it.
Mark.
Navigon 3.5.4
Using latest Navigon 3.5.4<-- i think, on the Coredroid series with no problems. Best IMHO.
I've switched over to typhoon rom..Igo is still stuttering! Using radio version 2.15 and the very same version as you. Maybe its SD-card related, so I will try to switch it.
@mskip: installed copilot. Need to test it, but looks okay.
I'm currently using Copilot, but I've been wondering, if I should change to Sygic Aura, because it looks so great. Does the Sygic Aura have speed camera warnings?

Yes it does and it does look the best of the bunch but it stuttered all the time while I was driving its like its constantly trying to catch up with it position and when you stop it goes crazy lol. May just be the Rom im using it with so give it a go and let us know if the movement is smooth.

Yes it does, but a couple of warnings.
-Routing just plainly ... (fill out the 5 letters).
-None existant support
-no time to arrival display in portrait mode (small bug according to them 'should be fixed in a couple of weeks, that was 4 months ago and a version back)
-old maps and speedcams that don't update
-jumps position when standing still (even with a external BT device that is spot on)
I am now using iGO with a skin and to be honest I love it.
As an old iGO man I was surprised to see a 2002 gps software look in Android comming from the skinned iGO in Winmo which is still far superb in many ways.
There are 2 skins you can find for iGO in Android which make it a bit more 'old school' like.
There is the motogis skin which I do not like since you only get speedcam warnings when travelling to fast and the you have the 12carrera12_Sbertaud13 which works perfect for me.

So iGo is better than Sygic Aura? Is there any benefits having iGo over Copilot? I'm liking the Copilot, but it doesn't seem to get map or speedcam updates very often. Is there same problems with iGo?

I have tried Copilot for 1 day and there where a couple of things that bothered me. I believe it was not seeing the speed I drove or not showing the max speed on a road. Can be that I am wrong in this but I think it was that.
In iGO there are many sources to create your speedcam files from so I would concider that to be opensource like.
The latest maps I believe are from mid 2010 so still pretty ok to me.
But we are hijacking someones thread here!
Mideel any way to record this and to put it on youtube so we can have a look at it?
Im also running coredroid 1.6 and have no problems with the stock navigation. I installed Dark Angels GPS fix and get a quick GPS lock. Been working flawless in my opinion.

Its okay, since I'm interested in other oppinions about the variety of navigation-systems for android.
no need to to record it, just imagine you are watching a youtube-video and it is buffering all the time, so the clip doesnt run smoothly. thats how it sounds when the igo-voice is speaking. Just like I said, its stuttering.
But no one seems to have the same problem, so I suppose its hardware-related (SD-card or something)
Tested Copilot, its working, but Igo was always the better solution for me, since winmo 6.5 times.

Thanks, but maybe you missed the topic. Stock-Navigation means Google Maps, right? Well, its not offline. And GPS Fix is fine and fast for me without any fixes or modifcations
