Boot Loop?? - Legend General

Hello Legend owners, Im posting on behalf of a friend. His Legend suddenly lost all signals last night....no phone, no 3g. So, I just tried the following: soft reset, hard reset, factory reset...now it is in an endless boot loop. It turns on and gets to home screen to set up (due to factory reset), but it will just suddenly turn itself off and then reboot. Sometimes when it gets to the home screen I slide the lock down and it reverts to the HTC (quietly brilliant) startup screen?? He got this phone through Bell here in Canada, so he is in for a long drawn out pile of BS to get a replacement unless someone here has any advice for me. Ive had a couple of android phones and im no stranger to abd, fastboot, etc...
Thanks in advance,
brunswick

You probably shouldn't post the same (ish) question in both sections
Obtain a logcat to see why it's looping. Post it here (pastebin) if you don't know what to look for

Ok my bad about the double post. Wasnt really sure which section was more appropriate. Not too sure how to perform the logcat. Where would I look for the right RUU?

I thought you'd know how to use logcat.
Code:
adb logcat
As for RUUs, look at shipped-roms

Yup I can figure it out. Will try and find time tomorrow night. Have it running again but still no signal.

Dead wildfire

Hey guys
I am really sad because my wildfire became handicapped today...
I was playing around with it surfing and playing games
Then I put it on the table played abit on the pc but when I picked it up again the screen didn't turn on when I press unlock I felt feedback so it means the phone works the screen isn't tried restart it vibrates but doesn't turn on screen...
What can be the cause?
Is it because I updated nightlys every two or so days?
Thanks
Plug battery out. And plug it. It happen for me a few times in nightly

tried everything...
battery pull out, charge it, remove sim\sd... anything...
----
oh and forgot to mention
right before the screen died it went white then it never turned on again
is there a way to flash an rom to the wildfire without touching the device? i.e cable?
i currently have no screen but the device is alive...
Is your screen completely dead? Or only after booting? I.e can you see the bootamimation? Try booting into bootloader mode (volume down + power)
If your screen is completely dead it might be a hardware issue.

Why is this in the Dev Forum? Please move!
Yes perhaps it is in the wrong section but by posting that your basically spamming up the forum.
Anyway on topic i agree find out if it really is your screen or just a dodgy flash of a rom

sorry didnt know where to post,
and no i dont even see the animation... as i turn it on i only feel vibration for a sec then i can hear it boot.. but still no screen..
oddly it was after flashing a nightly..
and as i asked:
can anyone tell me if theres a way to flash RUU without screen ? i suspect it might be a problem with software..
Hmmmm you could get sdk and get mobile on pc screen.
not too sure but exhaust all avenues. Have you tried soft reset?
Vol down + power + trackball

hi,
Download the original RUU from Shipped Rom, it happen to me,,and connect ur Buzz (at least it should be turn on, just white scree thats ok) ,,,and just wait, it will return it to the original 2.1 Eclair,,so u can do unrevoked to root ,,CM7 is not stable, i choose wildpuzzle more fasst and stable.
MC
In my experience with ipods, a white screen is usually a hardware issue (ie it needs changing), which seems to be consistent with what you experience (no startup logo).
I hope it is not the case for you, and that your problem will be solved by flashing a different rom.

Problems with MT4G after digitizer replacement

I picked up a MT4G for cheap with a badly cracked digitizer and decided to replace it. I'm not new to taking apart and fixing small electronics so I didn't feel like there should be any problem. I looked over the videos and info about taking apart this phone, and replaced the digitizer with no problem. The problem came when I booted the phone up. it boots into fastboot but when on none of the hard wear buttons work. I can also boot into Hboot by holding up and down while powering on the phone, but after the phone is turned on again none of the hare wear buttons work. Anyone have any suggestions???
either you broke your ribbon or your ribbon is not fully connected in check agian and try
Well it doesn't sound like you broke anything internally because you can boot into fast boot, you probably wiped the phone of software somehow tho, can you choose selections in fastboot menu by pressing the volume and power keys?

No. non of the buttons respond when the phone is on. The funny thing is the buttons respond during power up because I cab boot into Hboot. I'm going to take it apart again and have a good look to see if anything came loose.

Sounds like a strictly software issue, I'm pretty confident that if you can get adb access you can flash a rom through there. Can you mount the phone to your computer?
In the development section there's a guide for getting adb access, if you absolutely can't get the phone to respond than adb is your best bet.

Installed ADB onto my laptop and got it to see the mytouch 4g plugged in by showing the serial number. When I enter commands I get errors, I think the phone may be toast.
No way dude if it's recognizing it you're in the clear, if it gives you errors try to remount, you might want to get one of the developers on this since I'm not so technically proficient.but I do know that it's completely recoverable as of this point

HD2 charges but won't turn on

Hi guys. Friend of mine asked me to have a look at her HD2. Problem as stated in thread name. I haven't got the phone yet, but would like to see if anyone has any suggestions. It's standard HTC without any mods at all.
Thanks

Do you not get the standard short vibration or any response when trying to turn on? What happens when you connect to a PC? Do you get the Qualcomm in device manager?
Lastly, you are positive she didn't flash anything?
Will report on your questions as soon as I get the phone. Quite positive that she didn't flash anything. Thanks for the reply,at least I have a starting point when I get the device.

Also check the battery pins too. One of the two positive pins or the middle pin may be bent. The middle pin has to be making proper contact with the battery as well as the positive pins. But if the middle pin is not making contact the HD2 will not turn on. Check to see if it will turn on while it is plugged into the charger too.
Right, just spoke to the girl, she said that it does turn on, vibrates, shows pink (i guess red) circle and some small writing and then shuts down. Does it give you any clues? Will get hold of a phone tomorrow. Is there a RUU I could run first of all?

Well if you can not get the HD2 to stay on I would not try flashing any ROM to it. one because that has got to be a hardware problem, two if it shots off in the middle of being flashed it can brick the HD2 then it will have to be JTAGed. If you can get the HD2 to bpot into bootloader and stay on then you can try to reflash the original stock ROM. But I would just try a hard reset first as that will give you the same effect as flashing the stock ROM again, aand get rid of any posinle mobile virus it might have. And before anybody says anything yes there is mobile viruses they are just not that common yet.
To do the reset hold both volume up and down buttons down and power the HD2 on then follow the on screen instructions. Be warned though this will erase all data on the device.
Cool, thanks a lot for your help. I'm pretty sure its software problem, or a virus as she did install something before phone went mad and finally refused to turn on.

Htc dream reload

hi guys
i'm having the hardest time EVER to find a guide to reload a shipped rom to a HTC DREAM. can someone please give me a "walk through" with whatever files are required?
it'll be highly appreciated.
the handset came in this morning, boots up but has no menu, tried doing a hard reset and then it only comes up with a screen saying "cyanogen mod" and the android logo wrapped in a circle. and that's where it stays.
please guys, i'm desperate
How Long did you wait for?
One if the Rom updates was taking for ever to get the phone to start, I left phone for 30 min while I watch tv. All worked fine, just took longer to start the first time. Maby that is what is happening to you.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
if you leave the phone for about 30 mins it goes into it's "normal" mode, asking you to "set it up", but as you progress thru the "set up" stages, it gets an error and goes into "standby" screen... NO MENU's after that
Sounds like you have to reinstall the Rom.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
i know, that's why in my 1st post i asked for info on the ROM and flashing
what are you trying to do exactly?
can you get into recovery mode ? holding (home+power)
can you access bootloader screen? holding (camera+power)
What is your current radio, hboot?

Kindle Fire NEVER ROOTED OR TAMPERED WITH in boot loop!

Ok so I have been reading around and most of what I found about my specific problem (boot loop with never putting any custom restore or root or ANYTHING on it) was pretty much was useless. I am not a complete beginner I have put custom mods on many of my devices, defy, atrix, dell streak, ect, and I have used ADB among other things (not that I am a pro at it mind you!)
I realize theres a thread up for this here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356257
but I want to know if this will work or is for people WHO HAVE NEVER DONE ANY MODIFICATIONS TO THEIR KINDLE FIRE
If it is then I will give it a shot.
What happened is (to my knowledge) my daughter was playing with it, and the next morning, it was boot looping, and quickly. So when I turn it on, it shows kindle fire then goes black, then repeats or once in a while will make it to the slide to unlock but 2-3 seconds after goes black and continues the bootloop
ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!
I recommend giving Amazon a call and get the device replaced.... If you still have a warranty?

Why would I even try to fix it if I had a warrant? .... thanks anyways...
so ive downloaded the drivers and its basically not working, and the method for deleting the drivers (the one some idiot posted at least) will only work IF THE DEVICE STAY CONNECTED... Which it obviously isnt... and the 3-4 seconds of it saying KINDLE FIRE isnt long enough for me to find it in the device manager... by the time that updates its already rebooting...
so please anybody.... i dont understand why it would be so difficult.... I JUST NEED A RECOVERY I DONT NEED ANY OF MY STUFF
I have tried running ADB shell it says device not found....
If it is a hardware problem, then flashing is pointless. It did this on its own. Processor or board issue. Given the variety of things I see posted, hardware is an issue at least 1/3 of the time, my guess.

I would agree with you but i had installed some apps prior that seemed to make it glitchy and slow, and my daughter probably just triggered something (she is 3 and just constantly opens and taps things, i caught her in settings before) ... im pretty positive its software, especially since I read a few people with the same exact symptoms of mine... (it shows logo then reboots repeatedly, but sometimes makes it to the slide screen for like 4 seconds then it goes back to boot loop) Im sure I could fix it but I need help with getting my ADB in order or im screwed xD
I have also read several places that my problem could be fixed with a factory cable...
Have you tried a hard reset (hold the power button down for 30 seconds then power back on)? That should clear any stuck apps. It also sounds similar to a low power boot loop. If you haven't tried charging it you might want to put it on the charger overnight and see what that does. Other than that I don't know why a stock KF would bootloop.

I have tried all of that, many times in fact. I also think its odd that it got stuck in a bootloop but from what ive read stock KF do that sometimes and its usually as simple as changing the way it boots which is why I think the factory cable is what I really need...

like i said... thats why i think i need a factory cable (fastboot)... but the problem here is i dont have a factory cable... lmao!
so basically im stuck at the fact that the drivers arent working, thus the KF is not being recognized, making fastboot impossible, or am i wrong? somebody please clarify...

You don't know whether or not your fastboot drivers are working because you must first put the device into fastboot mode to see if Windows will load the appropriate drivers.
Your problem is that on a stock device unable to boot into the system, 2 out of the 4 possible ways of putting the KF into fastboot mode are unavailable to you. The remaining options are to use a factory cable or to crack the case open to get access to the motherboard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668159
There's another thread on the forums here about someone who disconnected the battery and hardwired it to a charger, but that seems like a really bad idea to me. A factory cable is your best/safest first step to getting out of your situation.
