Hey
Recently, I've got strange problems with my hardware keys on my (European) hd2. When I press the home or the back button, they work sometimes like the volume buttons. So the home button decreases the volume and the back increases it.
I'm using Artemis v43 with WinMo 6.5.5, but I had the same experience on all stock rom versions (that's why I got rid of them)!! Even if I m using Android the buttons are still weird. (In Androd it's extremly annoying due to the immensive use of the back button ).
Has anyone else the same experience and how did you solved this? Or should I send it to HTC to repair it?
Thanks for your help
Chabun
maybe you had a short in your motherboard, i would recommend contacting HTC, as it is a hardware problem
Thanks.
Yeah, it really seems to behardware stuff. I'll contact HTC.

Hi Guys, first problem in years:
Just flashed a new rom to my HD2 (like i do every 2 days), and suddenly my send (green phone) and start (windows key) control the volume, so when i press the send key my volume goes down and when i press the windows/start menu key the volume goes up. i've tried several radios and tried several roms to see if the problem solves but the keys are still disfunctional.

Anyone ever heard about this problem? Because google does not. (me neither)
I would be very helpfull for the one who can help me.
Thanks in advance,

I don't know the answer but if you can
reverse engineer it and figure out how the keys got remapped you would be hailed as a genius, as it does not seem that anybody else can remap them correctly. Does your original volume keys still function correctly? What does your buttons app in settings say for how they are mapped?
Yes

Thank you for your reply, yes my real volume keys still function correctly. My button app in settings say that only the send key is mapped (this does work when i long press the send key).
I tried everything but it just doesnt go away, is this rom or radio? Because i reset them both, also used mtty.
Thanks in advance,

Anybody?
Did you run a Task 29 before
trying the new Roms and Radio's? Clean her out good! You might need to take it back to the original standard official SPL, Rom and Radio and see if the problem persists. Needs to be there anyway to return for warrenty.

HI,
I tried task 29 several times, i took it back to official SPL, rom and Radio but the problem persists. I just returned it to the provider's service point. So this thread could be closed, but i still would like to know the problem; but i think nobody could get me one (am i the only one with this problem?).
Thanks!
Hi,
I've just installed the ROM Upgrade for HTC HD2 (T-Mobile) 1.72.110.4 on my HD2 and lost the volume control on the LHS button, has anyone else run into this issue?
Cheers
Hi,
I am having the same problem, after updating to that ROM my volume keys now act like up/down arrow keys. I can see this might have it's uses, but I would prefer it if they was to change the volume...
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I was thinking to use a button mapper, but I would prefer it to 'natively' work as it should.
Thanks in advance!
I found a solution, i uninstalled audio route (which is to send audio to the earpiece from Skype etc.), did a soft reset and my volume keys work as normal now.
It might be a coincidence, but worth a look if you are having this problem.
I Managed to get the volume working by chance. I used the Radio and adjusted the Volume with the LHS button, ever since it's been OK. Bit buggy me thinks.
Couple of days ago I noticed that my DHD's volume down button does'nt work anymore. First I didn't pay attention, thought that after restart it will be solved, but it didn't. The volume down function doesn't work in any software (up works just fine). Before I decide to go to warranty, what do you think, is it a software or hardware problem? There is no accidents or any damages happened, I know and physically the button seems to work. Please help!
Normally buttons are hardware, in your case its easy to tell.
remove the battery. Put it back in. Hold down the volume down then turn on the phone, if it starts normally your button is dead, if you get into bootloader mode it could be software and you should try reflash or wipe in settings

Im the same, except now my volume up doesnt work either

Thank you so much Blackhorse!
Although the first try didn't succeed (perhaps I didn't hold both volume down and power button long enough), the second try started the bootloader and I was able to use both volume buttons. After another boot the stock rom started normally and now my volume down function is back! Hopefully it stays so...
Hey guys,
My volume keys have died. Part of the wire strip that is connect to the buttons is torn.
Any ideas if there is a replacement upperboard yet?
having the same issue... going to try blackhorse's solution and see if it works
best regard
André
unfortunately it didn't work. I guess the volue down button is dead, even though I had absolutely no accidents with it.
does anybody have an idea of how to solve this, since I live in Brazil, but bought DHD in Germany?
any help would be very appreciated
best regards
André
same problem here, my buttons stop working. What I usually do then is lift the volume keys up slightly and slide some paper underneath to clean some dust and then usually it works again (for a while)
Yes I have a strange problem with my HD2. When I press the back key then screen going dead and there is no response. Display is ok. Everything are running and phone don't freeze but touch function losing. If I press the power/end key to sleep the phone and wake it up again then everything are normal. LCD responding my touches and sliding screens with no problem until I press the back key.
I tried several roms with full wipe (task29) also tried stock wm 6.5 but nothing changed.
If this is a hardware problem why only occurring when i press the back key? Because everything are ok until back key.
If this is a software problem why occurring after full wipe?
I am confused and need help.

Sure it is a hardware problem, well-known for HD2's architecture!
Back & End keys are right above/overhead touchscreen contacts on LCD: after some (many) pushes on those keys, touchscreen fails eventually for good!
You should think to replace your own...
Thanks for your reply. This is bad news for me because my phone doesn't have warranty. There are some touchscreens on ebay but i confused which one is suitable for me or best quality. Some seller says lcd + digitizer or some one says just digitizer. Which one i should buy? Just digitizer or with lcd?
Best regards...

If you DIY I would recommend you the combo(LCD+touchscreen), whatever version( but I suggest you the 300 version with a clip connector between touch and LCD): it is much easier for a rookie to replace whole combo, but take care, it's not that easy!
If you go to service shop, pick a good one(it is a tricky action even for a pro) and replace just touch, they should know what version to be.
Good luck!
it's the hardware problem, the only solution is going to the HTC's service center or buying a new lcd display and replace it by yourself
Can’t believe it. I just got the same problem since yesterday. When I press the back key the screen become unresponsive. The problem appears only after, but on every press of the back key. I really cannot find what cause this.
Is it really the case that I have to fix hardware problem or there is SW solution? Anyone with experience?
Hardware as posted above

too bad it is hardware ... any suggestions for app I can use?
Even if problem is there with the hardware and button, drivers are OK.. So put android sd version and use software like zmooth or button savior for onscreen soft keys.. No more need for thehard buttons
Use miui rom android, you can set volume keys to switch on screen, no need for power on key
I have never used my hard back key in probably a year's time!

+1 on zmooth, been using like a year too and almost non use of hardware buttons
You need to open the phone and check the mini-flat of the hardware buttons, it is connected to a connector tries to lift the safety catch and push well helped by a small flat screwdriver.
here is a 'picture.
i am running on HD2O© WP7 8779 (TANGO). For some reasons, the touch screen randomly stop working. Usually it happens when i try unlocking the screen. I am not sure is it hardware problem, or is it software problem. Anyone got any suggestion on how i should approach this problem? Thanks.
If it's a hardware issue, it sounds like the digitizer is dying. That's a typical HD2 problem. The display's wire are underneath the power button. If a hard press on the buttons helps (well, sometimes), it's exactly the described problem. Unfortunately hard pressing damages the wires further. In any way you'd be in for a replacement display or device ...
BTW: Running WP7 you can remap the buttons to avoid using the (original) power button on the right (e.g. with Leo Advanced). If the damage is not too severe it could strech the lifetime of your device.
All by assuming it's a hardware issue (you can find out by running another os) ...

That's unfortunate. It sounds like the same problem I am experiencing. Thanks for the answer.
You're welcome. If the touch still works simply remap the buttons and avoid the button on the right. If it's already too late and you want to repair it by yourself search for tutorials, there are a few available - including videos.
