Guessing pool for 2.2 - Vibrant General

So epic finally got the factory 2.2 rolling....... anyone want to play the guessing pool on how long it will take before Vibrant gets their factory update
Here is the reference Thread
http://nexus404.com/Blog/2010/12/05...d-2-2-1-update-for-samsung-epic-4g-right-now/
My guess 1-3-2011

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, and saying 12-30-10.
Now, if it was real money to bet, I'd say 2-10-11.

My guess is:
1-20-11

12/9 to start, that will give 3 weeks to be done by the end of the year

i hate this forum.. i got tempted into flashing my phone last night with jk6.. lol
that was easy.. i like it a lot, but some changes I'm nnot too fond of, like the prompt color from light blue before to dark blue, the gallery being too fast it almost don't have the cool animation 3d anymore, the prompt on gallery as we when yyou want to delete, set as, share.. i like the old style prompt better... hmmm what else oh the capacitive buttons became feeble somehow and there is no option to adjust it too.. the heptic feedback only works for the dialer, and keyboard.. but not the capacitive buttons.. i like how it is before better..
the phone' s performance overall is just a lot better.. it's snappier, responsive, less lag (it still lags lol) annnnnd the gps is better, i like the new search widget, the wifi calling, tmobiletv...
yup the phone is like a complete new phone..
so when the update becomes in the horizon, ill have to flash back to jfd... then to j16??? to get the ota? im thinking jfd should be fine, and that's how I was able to flash to jk6, because my first attempt of flashing (through odin) i got stuck in recovery mode loop with some red fonts on it and I can't remember what it said.. lol.. and i was on stock unrooted j16 too... i forgot to uncheck on repartition on first attempt, it's probably why it brought me to recovery mode loop?? so i had to flash to jfd then to jk6... i wish i wouldn't need to flash to j16 too in order to get the update, otherwise it will be too ughh.. but whatever flashing through odin is easy any way..
thanks to this forum i learned how to flash...

missed the point?

i have become a complete geek.. lol

12/22/10 is my guess for the first day of OTAs being pushed out to Vibrants.

I am going to guess 1-22-11

yet another 2.2 speculation thread????
it just seems theres a new one every week...it will be out when its out, what does guessing get you?
i mean i am mildly excited for an official release so i can see what the devs do with it. other than that i am very happy with my phone running a JI6 ROM, and there is plenty out there to play with still until 2.2 is released. so im really not counting the days, because honestly, 2.2 is not as unbelievable as one would think if they counted how many of these threads exist for the Vibrant and just how impatient people are getting over it....you would think we were waiting for 3.1

[POLL] Will you keep Froyo?

For the folks that have gotten a taste of Froyo, will you keep it?
Closing this poll in 21 days, I imagine the "officially official" Froyo release will have some variances.
Yes.
[at least 10 characters]
I don't see any poll? My vote would be yes. I went from rooted N1 with stock rom and recovery to amon_ra's recovery and Froyo and haven't found a single bug yet. It's very stable for me and even watched a Youtube flash video which worked flawlessly (keep in mind I only watched one video so far)
.. when it's CM-froyo, yes.. till then 507.
Of course. It works flawlessly on my device and the speed increase is money. Just waiting for the mods now. And for the app devs to send their updates.

Darn it! Wish I thought of that option before putting up the poll! I've been thinking of reverting to CM507 and waiting on CM6... But I don't see any options to edit the poll.
im waiting for cyanogen...played with froyo for 5 mins, than did a restore back
I'm keeping it because I love the new features, It's like they listened to me directly because everything I wanted they've updated specifically. I do miss my features with Enoms ROM but I can live without until he releases an update [still waiting on AOSP as far as I know]

Give it a chance rofl. 5 minutes is not enough to discover all the new tweaks/features that Google gave us
Keeping it. There are so many new features and just little visual tweaks that make it so awesome. Like when you mount your phone via USB there's a little android guy. Or if you use more than one language when typing you can just swipe the spacebar to easily switch.
The only cons I've encountered were Handcent fc'ing every time I send a msg and the HTC mod kb not working. However those two things are huge for me.
Overall the speed, visual enhancements and epicness of Froyo is enough for me to roll w the punches until 2.2 source is released and the devs fix up something awesome!

Anyone have issues when powering up the phone? It seems to take forever until it is stable and will actually respond normally. Unrooted Froyo.
Don't know why people would prefer anything older than FroYo.
It's faster, it's reliable, it has cool features and is better looking =)
Definitely a keeper, very happy with it. Now where is my Gingerbread?!

Because its missing all the little tweaks from CM that makes day-to-day on the phone so much more useful. (even little things like remove debug message, trackball track skip, color pulsing, etc)
I think I'm still going to keep it but waiting impatiently for a CM froyo variant for sure.
Keeping it. The 2 issues I had, have been fixed by app updates for dolphin HD and handsent. And I think there's a fix out for HTC ime that I have to find.
I'm keeping it for now, but once enom and CM start building new ROMs with a Froyo base, then I'll probably move onto those
I got froyo, then went back to cyan5.0.6 due to the fact that apps are not updated yet. But I went back to froyo last night willing to be patient. I cant wait for cyan froyo 6.0 Being stock sucks and to me the reg functions of the phone are slow compared to 5.0.6.
You know how many times I hit my trackball to wake my phone up and unlock and im like "****" lol....
cyan ROMs are the shiznit!!!
Tried Froyo, went back to 2.1
It's not so much I had anything against Froyo... everything worked great with Froyo itself... but none of the widgets I use worked with Froyo, so I reverted.
where's the option to keep a nandroid of both froyo & CM and switch back & forth as needed?
I'm keeping it for now; I REALLY miss some of my apps though.
Since none of them are updated for Apps2SD yet my phone memory's almost full & started rejecting text messages.
Couple that with I have over 100 apps that I can't even find on the market again and yeah.. I'm waiting for CM =(
Love the flash player and hulu on the go though; so for now, it stays...

u can backup ur phone as much as u want. As long as u have the space to do it on ur SD card. I have about 3 nandroid backups. 2 cyan5.0.6 and 1 froyo. Just go into recovery and select which one u want.

There is quite a handful of people reporting the same thing. Most of the replies involve using ODIN to revert back stock and trying again. Some have had success in pushing a .zip through ADB and going through recovery.
Either way it seems you have to be bone stock (no LagFix and Original GPS) to get it working.
On the other hand nobody feels bad for those that get the Vibrant screen loop since the vast majority of those affected have 3rd party ROMs/Kernals and LagFixes which won't play nice with the OTA.
Better quote. I found the firmware on the site. and my friend at samsung firmware found the keys to decrypt. and paid. And we gave you all the firmware.
Just wanted to get the facts straite.

I've even heard bone stock people complaining about getting stuck at the vibrant screen. maybe they should have tested more
Why do people still trust OTA updates? It seems every OTA update has caused nothing but grief...just root and rom and screw OTAs. I trust anyone of our devs moreso than some random OTA jibberish.

Im getting ready to root and flash... thanks samsung

I've been waiting patiently for my 2.2 OTA upgrade ... now my patience is running thin as hell with Samsung as well as t-mobile for not stepping in to remedy the problem. The worst part is that I just heard that Samsung pulled the 2.2 update from kies. So this is probably a bad sign for any one who is afraid to root or scared the void any warranty.
Im unfortunately one of the ones that hasent wanted to root cause im still paying off my phone. I know its easy, I just want the option to claim warrenty.
Im giving them until the new year to release an OTA for 2.2 or 2.3 if not that a date and then first deadline they miss in rooting.
Sent from my futuristic phone
I say go ahead and root. Then read a lot. Read some more. And then flash. Don't worry about the warranty. You can always flash back to stock and unroot. They'll never know or care.
Honestly, you're probably not going to get 2.2 by years end. Gingerbread is out and we're still running software that was released over a year ago. At this rate, we'll get Gingerbread (if we ever) couple months after Honeycomb is released..
edit: I also applaud your patience thus far. I couldn't even stand waiting more than a week for JI6 update (after it was reported it was being released OTA), which prompted me to root + flash.

I would just go with the One click lag fix for rooting. I think the .apk that allowed you to root got pulled from the market. But if you search around here... you can still find it. Very simple, just install the app, click root, boom, start flashing away. Just search for One Click Lag Fix, gotta get one of the older versions though.
Root, read, learn, then install the Stock JL4 Froyo Rom some of us are running. It's pretty slick and practically perfect.
Go ahead and use ODIN and update to 2.2 FL4. You wont be disapointed, unless you talk about battery life. I lost an hour at least going to 2.2. However, the features/speed improvement is well worth it.
I will NEVER EVER EVER buy a phone again that has less than a 12h active battery life again. This looking for a place to charge like a crackwh** is getting old fast.

I am in the same boat - except that I have rooted. I didn't flash a custom ROM since it's so much more difficult than on the G1 which had the excellent Amon Ra recovery to do BART backups in case something went wrong and a flash from a zip file side loaded on the phone.
Flashing ROMs on this is so much more convoluted with ODIN, kernels etc. Plus 2.1 was decent enough on the phone and I kept expecting Samsung to release 2.2. But this is now getting ridiculous and I'm getting pissed of as well. This is definitely the last Samsung phone I'm buying. My next phone is definitely going to be an HTC. HTC modding is stabler and more advanced for obvious reasons, not least of which is that HTC seems relatively okay with it.
What is 2.2 FL4?
FL4 is the latest "leak" of the 2.2 "final" rom for the Vibrant.
Dont listen to others that are saying to factory restore, after you are done with the flash, boot it into recovery (the volume button turn on) and just clear the cache, then reboot. You wont lose any data. (If you rooted 2.1 you will may have to factory restore, but it doesnt hurt to try the cache trick first. The method I'm referring to seems to work best if your a non-root user like me).

Can someone post a link to a good thread so I can research what I need to do or atleast provide me with the right word or phrases to search.
My first concerns are what everything is, like ODIN and OCLF (I finally figured out the OCLF thanks to this thread means one click lag fix ... I never put 1&1 together) Also they put the OCLF back in the market with all the tools just minus the ROOT option. Reading through the help file provided with the OCLF app he tells you what you can do to obtain root.

I was in the same boat. It's my wife's phone and she didn't want me screwing with it.
I finally gave up on samsung and installed stock jl4 yesterday and couldn't be happier.
Haven't really seen any bugs at all yet. It's running great.
I've been looking through a few rooting threads to gather information. I see people saying that there making backups and installing busybox or superuser. If acquiring root is as simple as a button press and a restart why make a backup. I understand that It's always good to make a backup when delving into the inner OS.
Also the OCLF, Super Oneclick, and Z4root, methods I've researched are a little less explanitory then i thought. They just say something like "INSTALL AND CLICK ROOT" nothing step by step or anything talking about safty precautions.

OTA happened for me today too and worked perfectly
Can you get the update when you are on EB13?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Although I'm rooted I have everything else factory, no missing apps. I wonder what prevents the OTA from happening. Maybe it still will...?
I checked "update android" about 3 am in indiana and started downloading the update. i checked my phone about 8 am and it asked if i wanted to update first thing.
the update when fine, but things run slow. looks like all of my data is there but the rotation lags sometimes and some of my ringtones, notification sounds have changed. thats not a big deal though. the screen rotation lag was about 3 to 4 seconds at one point.
i have yet to restart my phone, maybe i'll give that a try. also my battery is dying fast. it usually lasts about 12 hours, today its going about 8 or 9.
i updated from never rooted, stock di18 over the air to ec05.
I haven't got the OTA (on a custom rom anyway) but would never install anything OTA. Samsung has enough problems with buggy releases to go flashing something like this right over top of what I already have, IMO you're inviting issues if you update like this.
With that said, I just flashed the EC05 modem over my ACS 1.0.2 install and it went flawless. GPS lock is better and 3G seems to be doing better and I didn't have to deal with any of the Sprint ID crap.
Hey everybody I jus got my froyo update today and I dont know what to make of it yet...it looks abit cooler...came wit sprint id crap, I dont see the point in even having that...also I there has been this weird fantasy sounding bg music on my epic and I cannot for the life of me find out where its coming from, uh so if anyone know how get that off I will be greatful...but all in all im diggin this update jus cus my xscope browser now had flash! YaY Me!
Got my update yesterday while at work. Feels a little sluggish versus eclair. The best thing about the update is that it messed with my default ringtone and notification settings. While sitting in my department's staff meeting, I received a call from my wife. No big deal except the ringtone sounds a little bit like a dying barking sea lion. That was pretty fun.
Other than that, so far, so good. Really like apps2sd! I just need to figure out how to delete a SprintID after I download it if I don't like it. (I am sure it I easy, but I haven't bothered trying yet.)

I thought I might amuse someone by reporting that I, DroidApprentice, may be the very last person to get the OTA update today after believing through most of last week that something I did to my phone made it not downloadable.
The irony is that I think tonight was to finally be the night where I tried using update.zip manually anyhow. Well, it was cool to see happen I guess. LOL. Now it keeps bugging me. Oh well, it's fated maybe to frustrate me until I manage to get it done and then hopefully it'll be an actual improvement.

I just got done upgrading to Gingerbread on the DX! Used the Team Black Hat app on the market (happily paid the $2), Koush's Droid X bootloader, and Clockwork Recovery. The TBH app downloads the gingerbread rom right onto your SD card into a zip file. Opened up the bootloader, pushed the button to boot into recovery, and it did. Then, using the volume buttons, scrolled down to make a backup. Done. Then scroll to "install from zip", not the "update" option. Use the camera button to select your options, by the way. From the install from zip option, it pulls up the folders on your SD card. Selected the teamblackhat folder. The zip was right there, highlighted and selected, and away it went! When the prompt said it was finished, I navigated to the "reboot" option, and it rebooted. Right away I could tell it was different because the Motorola logo was colored red. It took probably 5 minutes to fully load, but when it did, I had Gingerbread! All of my apps and settings were there. Didn't have to call and re-activate my phone, didn't have to login to google, nothing! Not sure if it pulled in the settings from the CWR backup or not, probably not. Now that I think about it, this is a Motorola release, intended to be an upgrade, not a full ROM swipe. The instructions and files are at mydroidworld... Have fun!
I want to do this but I don't want to lose root and then have to wait til root is available. How's it running sop far?

The only way I know to eliminate the lag is to run a lock pattern. I have OC'd to 1.2 and its still there. While it is less, its still not gone compared to a vanilla lock screen.
But I'm with you webmastir, if their was one thing, the lockscreen would be it. The second item I would have wanted was the sleep effect the nexus S has.

Got root already ...just waiting on instructions
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA Premium App
(-)2 known issues so far (+)YOU LOSE NO DATA ON UPDATE.
The two issues with the update:
1) A small sync "icon" remains on top of the notification tap. I do not actually believe that it is in a constant "syncing state", its just an icon that remains at the top.
2) And this is a big one. All four of the Droid X hardware keys at the bottom, have there lights that will not go off as long as the phone is "awake" ie, your using it. After it is back in its idle unused standby state, lights go back off. Not an issue with performance at all, but a huge cosmetic issue and annoyance more then anything as the lights on the hardware keys shine very brightly.
As far as updating, or those on the fence about it. The update total time, that I documented takes around 10 to 15 minutes depending on how much data you have to back up before adding the update. I have a lot more data then the average user, so mine took around 15 minutes from start to finish. 8 minutes to back up. 2 minutes to apply update, and 5 minutes after the first reboot to apply changes. The backup time is the only one that will very depending upon your data. The other times are going very dependent on your system data (SD card not included, as this is not needed to be backed up, because it already is, because its on a physical external card obviously) but be approximative to the time.
On the plus side, there are way more pro's. There are some that I have noticed that no one has mentioned on any forum yet. The biggest of these is the change to voice synthesis speed. Before the voice only talked in one speed. The new update gives the option to change the built in Android voice synth to almost 6 different speeds of reading back to you, very very amazing. And of course, SPEED. The new update is the first update in a year and a half that I have been modding and using the Android operating system that I have had to really sit back and say "wow". I came from the Eris until the X came out, made the change immediately. The new interface and color changes are pretty much what CM has been doing since his releases began. And the biggest pull for me to apply the update: YOU LOSE NOTHING. NO SIGNING IN TO GOOGLE, NOTHING. NOT A SINGLE CHANGE TO YOUR HOME SCREEN, NOTHING IS LOST, BECAUSE ITS AN OFFICIAL UPDATE THAT WAS REJECTED. Trust me, with all the roots and ROM's that we were using on are Eris, this is a no brainer upgrade. Your not losing anything because once the the OTA update rolls out, after the root (and it will come, only a matter of time) you can go back if you like. For me, I am sure Moto leeked this, they had to have, there is no other explanation. I have seen this time and time again since Androids release. I wrote just a little over 24 hours before hearing anything about the leek, I wrote to my facebook friends "dont worry, i am sure a leek of the rejected update will make its way around" Less then 24 hours after saying that on Sunday, it happened. The only reason I would say not to apply the update, is because you have NEVER DONE A MOD TO YOUR ANDROID DEVISE. If you can afford to maybe have something go wrong, then do it. On a noob level, this is probably a 2 or 3 on a scale of 10 being the hardest. The two known issues, I am sure will be worked out. I am almost even willing to bet, since Moto did not give and official statement of the leek when the whole damn world was buzzing about yesterday. They will even put out a patch or update to those who updated early with the leek. If they didn't want us having it, they would go public warning us, like they have before. It could happen later today they say, DO NOT UPDATE, BECAUSE _____ <-- insert reason there. That is my personal educated opinion only. Do not expect it to happen, just dealing with these types of things for the last 10 years now, and given there hush hush while this is being passed around, at the same time Verizon said no, it leads me to believe the devs, or at least one of them said "lets give the people what they want, screw the system". Because as we all know, nothing gets pushed without the carriers approval. We waited months for Android 2.1 after HTC went on record and put out statements saying to the affect "Hey guys, we did are part, its in Verizon's hands now, were sorry you haven't gotten it yet, but we cant force then to put it out." You who wait, could be waiting for months guys, you could be waiting till later this afternoon to get the OTA. Its anyones guess. After hearing I would lose no data because it was an official "rejected" update, it was a no brainer to me. Not lose any data, and get the update I wanted? Downloaded and applied with in the hour last night. two bugs, I can deal with, when the OTA comes out, I have my whole system of 2.2 completely as it was with no changes and all backed up to apply it if I chose too. Hope that helps gives an idea on whats going on so far. If your going to do this, and never have before. -PLEASE, -READ AS MUCH AS YOU CAN BEFORE YOU BRICK SOMETHING OKAY? THERE ARE VIDEOS, MANUALS, MESSAGE BOARDS LIKE THIS TO HELP YOU. IF YOU DONT FEEL CONFIDENT YOURSELF, DONT< WAIT. 2.2 is more then perfect to wait it out for 2.3. Sorry for any typos there might be. -Me.

I wouldn't say that. I got stuck in a bootloop after doing the update, and I've read on some other forums people have has similar issues when they didn't do a wipe before updating. Once I SBF'd myself back to stock then did the update, everything was fine, and loving this leak.
I wouldn't use not losing your data as a plus to do this. There is always the risk of losing your stuff, always make a backup before you try anything like this.
Hate to say this,
But the new Moto Blur is awesome.
I like the ability to make custom app drawers,
The color scheme is easy on the eyes,
Theme is nice
so many new options,
The dock is different, and I like it
I dont have the sync icon showing all the time like others.
My hard keys dont stay lit all the time like others
battery life is the same
performance is........well for me, a solid 60% improvement.
This was worth it big time. Hell at this point, I dont care about root, I am happy. I only rooted to put roms on, to get rid of 2.2 moto blur.
Wife is jealous, wants this on her Droid Pro. ha ha ha honey, shoulda kept your DX.
Does anyone have some screen shots of GB on the Droid X ?
It's not the 2.3 release that leaves the perpetual sync at the top.
I have that in 2.2. Sometimes it goes away but most often the sync icon is there on the top.
