Iam currently running the [UPD][BUILD][27.10.10]Mdeejay eVo Sense v. 2.3 rEVOlution [kernel:hastarin R7.7] build which i really like. It it my favorite build to date. I am considering switching to the [UPD][BUILD](29.10.2010)New Customize (iphone, sense, galaxys) in one Build mccm SE 3.0 build. I would like to install it and try it on my HD2. What i want to know is how can i back up my phone the way it is now, incase i dont like the other build. I already have all my contacts saved through google, but what can i do to back up my apps??? And is it possible to keep all my apps when i install the new build???
Please help me out.
Quite simpy, copy your existing Android folder off of your SD card, or rename it something other than Android, and copy the new build over. If you don't like it, then delete the new one, and either rename or copy your old one back.
thanks for clearing that up.. if i did like the new build is there any way to transfer the apps over with out redownloading them all???
If it is a completely different build, then yeah, but it involves all sorts of crazy hackery. It's easier to just re-download them.

If it's the same Android version you can get the folders and data with Titanium backup. Once you back them up it creates a folder. If it's a different Android version you have to reinstall the programs, but I think you can still use the data. Titanium backup lets you pick app and data of just data when restoring.
So basically if you are running a build that uses Android 2.2.1 and you change to a different 2.2.1 build, you can just restore the app and data from TB and they will be there. TB won't let you restore the app if it was backed up from a different version of Android so no worries there...

Most of you know that if you use the Market Enabler you will be able to see (and presumably purchase) paid apps in the Market. Since I change my Android build sometime several times a day, is there a way to "keep" paid apps and move them from build to build, or even phone to phone? (I have a TouchPro, RAPH800 and am trying to help with debugging Android there, too.) Also, being able to back up phone logs and sms might be nice in order to move from build to build or phone to phone, if anyone knows of apps that do this. I find I really like Google keeping my contacts synced. Thanks.
You can write a script which will copy your data folder to a folder on sdcard. You will need to run this script from adb or terminal in the build.
I may write a bat file sometime this afternoon if someone does not come up with better idea.

Two things. First, I'm not sure I want to reuse the whole data file, as sometimes I'm moving from, say Hero to Eclair. (I'm about to get my laptop out and to format an SD card to ext2 and load Shidell's new Eclair build.) Also, not sure I could reuse the whole data.img, moving from Vogue to RAPH800, either. I really only want apps, sms and maybe phone logs.
Second, could we have a decent terminal app in all the builds, please! Sometimes the add-on apps won't install, or I've had trouble installing a good terminal app from the Market. I once used an SU app and had to write one line at a time. I couldn't see what I was doing. It got the job done, but it was crude.
Thanks.

I use MyBackup from the market. It's only a 30-day trial...but that renews every time you switch builds. For example, when I switch to a new build, I just go into market, download MyBackup, install it and restore my apps. You can backup apps, contacts, sms, phone log, maybe more I can't recall.

SD. Just backup to sd and when u reinstall mybackup on a new build it will find your backup on your sd.
I did search. honestly. so im pretty sure that many people are annoyed when they see a new version of their current rom show, thus having to upgrade again loosing all their setting, apps, etc. personally, i've tried using titanium backup from mdeejay's rEVOlution 2.0 to 2.2 but it said that my apps could not be restored. so what would be the best way to painlessly switch android roms? sorry if a similar thread exists, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't..
1. this Thread should be in the "HD2 Android Q&A" Sub-Forum
2. There are many post's out there! Look into the build-threads!
(but i'm in a good mood) so...
3. ...here is my answer:
a) Data.img:
you can copy your old Data.img file into the new rom (Android-Folder) before
booting it. But use with caution, maybe the settings in the data.img are
incompatible with your new rom. (in that case - delete it and use the orig. data.img)
b) Titanium Backup:
- be sure that your Backup is the made with the same TB Version like the
one you trying to restore with.
(restoring from V 2.x.x to V 3.x.x does not work for me.)
- Use the Busy-Box offered by TB (Problems?-button) to prevent error's
- And be careful with restoring the settings! Maybe they are not compatible!
4. I suggest to rename the old rom folder to "Android_old" and
leaving it on the SD-Card for a while.
In case of problems you can rename your folders "Android">"Android_new"
and "Android_old">"Android". So you have the Option to play around with
Backup-settings and creating new one's.
Good luck!
first of all, thanks for the promt response. and secondly, i've already tried everything you've mentioned! when i used my old data.img, android booted normally. however, i had none of my apps, nor my settings. and i double checked my titanium version. it's the same as the one in the new rom. oh, and i started this thread because none of the given solutions would solve my silly little problem....
This sound's more like a problem with the revolution-build.
I don't had a problem like this with other Mdeejay-builds
(never testet revolution) and Mattc-builds
My data.img from a desire-build had worked in desire-hd-build.
But i'd switched back to the original Data.img to prevent possible failure.
Normally moving app's with TB works fine, settings are more
problematic.
But you have a very special problem.
Sorry, i cant't help .
I suggest to ask your question in revolution-thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790374
You don't have to restore the app with tb, maybe try downloading the apps then restoring the data separately

You cant realy save anything but your apps. The builds can be different enough between versions that a clean install is the only way to guarantee that you have success. I keep Titanium back up apk on my card and the folder it makes as well. I dont loose my apps and only use it to back up and restore apps. You need to re-do all other settings as they can carry issues from one build to another. Some things will back up, others wont, its part of the trade off. When you change builds, most of the time its so different, its like changing phones, you just cant transfer everything.

many times it is possible, but never recommended unless it is the same android build with a small update. it is definitely not recommended to reuse your data.img between Clean 2.4 and an HD as _everything_ is different...
however, i try tons of android roms and only have to set up a few things (preferences, shortcuts).
get a copy of Titanium Backup (the pro version is very much worth it) and then you will be able to batch backup/restore all of your apps. you can backup system settings too, pretty much everything, but i only backup/restore apps and their data. probably personal preference, but i dont want system settings to be restored to a different type of rom.
hope that helps, its fairly painless and the best/most compatible way ive seen to switch builds easily...
Hello all. I have a question about how I can backup/restore my sms, call logs, contacts, without use of google 'cloud' (I never put these info's online)?
Here's my scenario:
I recently learned how to switch my ROM from SD to NAND. Luckily the ROM I chose long ago just experimenting was AmeriCanAndroid on SD, which happened to have a NAND counterpart so using Titanium Backup I was able to completely backup and restore everything with no problem/no quirks.
I now want to change my NAND ROM from AmeriCanAndroid to RUNNYMEDE 0.82.401.1 - Android 2.3.5 - Sense 3.5 (because I have a heartOn for sense).
I got the hang of using CWM recovery, and changing the cache and data sizes, but the hurting started when I got into the ROM and used Titanium to restore the backup I made in AmeriCan to use in this new one. I now keep getting Force Close errors.
I'll make another post about that, but what I specifically would like to know is how I can backup that info and restore it, across roms, no matter what? Is there a sure fire way for that?

Not really, with NAND, you almost always (95%) have to wipe all data and system info, like formatting your computer to put a new OS on it (Win -> Linux). The only thing I can tell you is I personally use MyBackup Pro, has not once EVER given me an issue, and I have had it since the G1 days .
I have heard what your using, Titanium Backup is good too, so if you purchased it or are fine with free version, just keep using that. Backup your apps/data, flash new ROM, login to google, download titanium backup, and restore it all. It should work with no problems, NAND is NAND, a ROM is a ROM, they all run the same. SD backups will not work with NAND I dont believe.
Dont be afraid to experiment (follow ALL directions), backing up is the easy part, restoring is fairly easy, but the ROMS are all different and are very nice, THANKS TO THE GREAT DEVELOPERS!!!
ok this might be a really stupid question/ theory but...
i just got this phone thanks to my lovely wife who gave it to me for Christmas i am noticing that the htc scene has seriously handicapped the ICS experience in comparison to any other ICS phone out there so the question is after i have rotted it can we just replace the default apps with the standard ICS apps ,dialer,Messages, people, and what ever other apps have been tweaked i would love to get the app drawer back
this phone has the kingdom recovery loaded and it has root access i guess the next logical course would be for me to find a decent rom for it
if anyone has any place for me to read point away or advice i would greatly appericate it
You could get a Cyanogenmod rom, make a back up of all the stock apps to your sdcard (apps like the dialer, contacts, etc.) and then find yourself a good ROM and reinstall those after deleting the ones built into the rom
You can also use Titanium Backup to integrate apps into the rom itself (and back up the apps in the part above) so that they are part of the system and not "user" apps
I think this is what you're trying to do

No, you have to actually load them onto your phone, theres no other way

so were would i find said image then how would li go about extracting the apps has anyone done this
Get Ultimate Backup from the Play Store (the free version) and then open it and backup all the stock apps you want
Then restore your regular backup (or flash the ROM you want if you haven't yet) and get a file manager (like ASTRO)
In the file manager, go to your sdcard and look for a folder that says "App_Manager", thats where Ultimate Backup puts all the .apk's it makes
Then just go through and install all the stock apps (click on them and hit "install"), but before you do this make sure you UNINSTALL the equivalent apps in the ROM you're using (you can do this through Titanium Backup, just select each app you want to delete and hit the "batch uninstall" option)
apps
Okay just to make sure I have the straight
A mango backup my existing ROM with titanium backup which I I have already done so
And then I need to go find a ROM that does not have HTC sense 3.6 in it for my phone which does I have not had any luck in finding installed that ROM backup applications I want from that revert back to my semi-stock ROM mentions uninstall the stock sence And replace them with stock android 3.0.4 apps this it may be so much easier some it is an .apk for this
