[Q] copy files from pc to sd card via usb? - Streak 5 General

I don't understand why this is so difficult?
I have installed the latest eclair pc suite, the driver, and nero and still no dice..
wtf?
I have searched and am not coming up with a resolution..
lil help?
As it stands the device does not show up in the pc explorer. i do see android phone listed in the device manager and there aree no conflicts.
the little pc suite tray icon shows a red x through it "Disconnected" and i have never got that to actually show my phone.
nor has the mem card showed in the explorer..

Your phone, when connected, should have a icon in the top bar that says usb connect or something like that. Click that, then you will go to a screen that says "turn on USB storage". Turn it on. Your SD card will show up on your computer.

I've done that and it doesnt work it just says its now safe to remove the sd card..lol
ofcourse thats not what i want to do..
im on windows vista btw..

I'm on vista with no probs
when its says safe to remove card thats usualy when you have gone into settings/sdcard & chosen unmount SD card.
when I connect phone to usb I get icon in top bar saying USB connected select to copy files to/from your computer, click it then choose mount on the pop up dialog box

Yes. I'm doing exactly as you said..but it just un mounts the card...
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

I did eventually get this sorted and as i suspected it was a driver issue on the pc.
now all is working well

SD card won't show up on Windows Explorer

I've tried everything I can think of doing here, but no matter what I do, my phone won't connect via USB Mass Storage to my computer. I'm trying to update to the newest firmware (1.5 right?), can I do it directly from my phone? Help please
Look in disk management, see if its showing up in there.
I have the same problem, but I know mine is because the SD card got corrupted somehow. The problem is now , i dont know how to format it!! Windows cant read it and G-Phone's format pretty much did nothing. Im not sure where to go from here..... :S

Have you tried clicking on the 'USB Connected' Notification on the phone and mounting the card?

Can't connect to PC

So I've connected the N1 via USB. I can see the E drive on My Computers, but when I click on it, it says to insert disk.
Any suggestions?
just like any other android phone, did you drag the notification bar and mount the card?
At first I didnt know about that. But I'm doing it now and it still doesnt work.
It briefly says on the status bar "turn off usb storage"

that'll fix it
I tried that earlier, I wasnt able to update the driver from that file
hmm, if you have the sdk installed update that and i'll give you the most recent ones.
What is the sdk installed update?
After toggling the sync icon on and off, and doing the same I've been doing it works now
I've been mounting the SD card just fine, but now it's not staying. I mount the SD card, but the phone switches right back to unmount.
Any ideas?
Thats exactly the problem I was having.
After I toggled the Sync icon on the second homepage, it seemed to have cleared the issue

Post-root USB errors, anyone?

I finally got around to rooting mine earlier today..
Ever since, I can't get either of my computers (both Mac and PC) to recognize the phone for mounting the SD card. It charges fine via USB but is impossible to mount as USB storage. Any ideas on this?
Maybe a driver issue?
I thought that originally. But if that were the case, I wouldn't have been able to connect to them previously (no changes in drivers on the computers) or been able to connect to complete the root process. I'm kind of at a loss for ideas right now.
hmm strange... I'm a android newbie so i don't think i can help passed driver
Method?

Hey what method did you use to root? If you can mount your internal storage but not your sdcard, can your phone read your sd card when the phone is booted normally? Perhaps you damaged your slot?

exactly what i was thinking, but myz06vette are you able to view content from your sd card using just your phone? ex: music, movies or pictures?
Yes, I can view content on my SD card and internal phone storage on the phone itself using Root Explorer or ASTRO. I didn't use the method that required me to pull the SD card out. I can play music stored on the card and view all my photos, so I know its reading okay. I even took the SD card out and put it in a memory card reader and it hooked up to the computer fine.. mounted right away. Just won't mount through the phone.

The development.apk packaged in many Dream/G1 ROMs has an option to scan for media. Try that
BTW, *#*#4636#*#* also works from the dialer to pull up phone/radio options, which will allow you to switch between cdma auto (PRL) --> cdma only -->> ev-do only. The latter two options should save you battery!
Thanks for the advice! I updated to CDMA-only right when I got the phone.. so I honestly can't say whether or not its saving me battery since I don't know what it was like set to CDMA auto PRL hahaa.
I tried installing the Dev Tools apk you attached, but each time I do, it says "Application not installed" with the yellow !triangle next to it.

Sorry, man -- that .apk was from an Eclair build -- try the new one I put up -- it's from an Espresso build, I just installed in on my DI -- all good
Hah alright fair enough. This one loaded fine.
Checking it out now... will report back. Thanks!
Half of the options in the app force close.
Media scanner loaded, but isn't helping me mount the sd card to my computer.
Any more ideas?

So you've checked your settings in "Connect to PC" -- perhaps your "always ask" option is cleared and it's set to HTC Sync, for example? What do you get in the SDcard/Storage menu? Any stats for the SDcard? What happens when you elect to eject it in that menu?
Storage menu shows total space and free space like it should.
Connect to PC is currently set to Ask me everytime.. option for Disk Drive selected just to try and force it to mount..
Removed SD card.. did battery pull reset.. still nothing.

That's frustrating. You might have to back-up your sdcard data on a PC and re-format the card, then copy the data back. I'm assuming you have a card reader.
I hadn't thought until just now to try another card. I've got a few sitting around here somewhere. I'll try that before taking the time to backup almost a full 16 gigs of stuff, format, then restore it all.

Do you have some sort of app killer/task manager auto killing the obex service? Ive noticed i have problems when it isnt running, but when it is running it kills battery like mad. Try going to settings>applications>running services and see if its running next time you try to mount. It should show up under calendar. Hope this helps.
P.S. I only let this service run when i need to plug into my pc, since it seems to keep the phone from being able to "sleep" properly. So if you have something killing it, or the calendar app has been removed that may have a part in your problem.

Cant mount sd card on the computer

I hate to start a "OMG ITS NOT WORKING" Thread. But im just plain stuck.
Im trying to get to my sd card on my computer, to switch to my 4gb and to get the update.zip on it so i can root. But no matter what i do, it wont mount. My computer complains that the "USB Device not recognized" and loads a bogus driver. Ive been trying to get it figured out but nothing so far.
Anyone else have this problem? Any one know how to fix it?
hope this helps

No help :O( i dont get whats wrong.
what happens when you plug in the usb cord? Are any external drives shown on your computers file/drive viewer (my computer, etc)? If so can you open those drives, if not what does it say?
the way it should work is.
-DL the drivers here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7218057
-install the drivers on your PC
-hookup phone to PC via the provided usb cable
-on the phone drop down the notification bar and MOUNT the SD card.
-open My Computer or other file viewer
-see two external drives one the internal with about 13GB of total space and one the SD card with 2GB of total space
-add remove files from cards
I did all that. When i plug it in, my computer says "the usb device is not recognized" and proceeds to load a bogus driver. Ive installed the debugging driver, nothing. nothing shows up in my computer for the sd card, OR the phones own flash memory.
I have 3 separate android phones, never had this problem before.
try connecting the phone to your pc again. Make sure that on your phone, that youre using the mass-storage option. Next look at the top of your phone, and pull down the header bar. and click on the "usb connected" option or whatever it says, and then choose "mount" when it pops up.
That's how your actually turn on the mass-storage. dont know why its like this, thought it would be automatically done after chosing the mass-storage option.
I am having the same issue. Installed drivers but can't access the drives.
It does automatically set it self for mass storage, but the computer for some reason isnt seeing it. im pretty sure its a driver issue. or the usb port on the phone maybe bad... that would be annoying.

Usb problem

Hello! (first post , have been reading for a while though)
I can't connect the phone to my PC (win7 64bit), not as a mass storage device or with Kies (it worked fine before with my home PC and an XP machine at work).
It stopped working after the PC said "Device drivers installed properly" (or something like that) when I connected it, after that I have'nt been able to make it work as mass storage device on any computer..
Very strange and very annoying!
I'm thinking I might factory reset the phone (would very anti-nice though to loose all apps and stuff), so I thought I'd ask here first if there are any possible solutions..
Thx!
if you open device manager in Win7 x64 do you see it listed as GT-I9000 in Portable Devices ?
that's what it shows in mine, and i'm on x64 Win7
it automatically opens in Mass Storage also works in Kies
WEE!! Got it to work just now!!
Rebooted the phone (as I do every day) and connected it to charge over night, and windows popped up with the "installing device driver blabla dialogue" and suddenly it works!?!
This after not working for at least a week on any computer...
I have no idea what might have caused it, but I'm just happy it works again
Still, very strange...
It shows up in the device manager now, it did'nt before.. Thx for the reply!
On Win XP
is there a certain driver i have to download before using USB Mass Storage option.
all i get are two removable drives icon. but they can't be opened
you should only have 1 removeable device icon, 2 if you have a micro SD card inserted.
if you configure the phone to ask you what to do with the usb during connection, then you can select Kies or Mass Storage
regardless both works fine
i do have two removable drives because of the addition of the sd card
its set on Mass Storage. but it still won't open. im not sure if Windows installed it properly though
the driver details:
driver files- system32\drivers\USBSTOR.sys
does it shows in device manager, as mentioned above ?

After connecting the phone via USB, did tell the phone to Mount the drives?
anyone else encountered this issue?
Is anyone else having trouble connecting their Galaxy to a PC? I don't know whether mine is faulty or not. Downloaded the Samsung Kies software but when I plug in the Galaxy Windows is unable to find a MTP USB device driver and the phone refuses to connect. This happens Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Also the Galaxy has a complete fit and keeps flashing between the home screen and MTP application screen while it's connected (wxw.youtube.com/watch?v=R9hdpJPCP-k). And I don't get the usual Android option to mount for file transfer. Am I missing something?
