SD Card not reading - G2 and Desire Z General

hi guys, out of nowhere my sd card reader just stopped working, and it wont recognize any sd cards that i put it, it simply doesnt see it in the slot. i tried a factory reset and all that and nothing. is there any suggestions?

An SD card reader is usually a USB device that you put in a laptop or a desktop computer to work with the files on an SD card. If that is what is not working, chances are it is toast. Most of them are poorly made, but, the bright side is that they are very cheap to replace.

Theres also one behind/under the battery...
I have seen many posts about this. I have heard of at least one that worked after a few bat pulls and letting it sit there for a while but i also know a lot of people had to get a new phone under warranty

I just started getting this error...

When I press gallery it says my SD card is unmounted. I powered off, removed card, cleaned card and phone, then I restarted it and it worked but now I'm getting it again. Pretty annoying. Also, is this the type of issue covered by the warranty?
I ran a search on Google and nexus one general forum before posting, thanks in advance for any help...
oh wow....i just unmounted the card, then i powered down. when i powered on it said the card was damaged and i may need to reformat it.
So i put it in my laptop and it says it needs to be formatted.
Have i lost all of the stuff on my card and, if so, what could have caused this? its kind of devastating for me.
The ONLY thing i did today that was out of the ordinary was install zumodrive on the phone.
its a class 6, A Data 8 gig and ive had it for a matter of 6 months, im guessing it was the phone or an app that caused it?
Unless you were constantly removing the card while a device was in the middle of writing to it, I dont think the phone it self would have caused much damage... I'm thinking it was more likely a defective card...

bummer, so i probably should just trash it as opposed to formatting it and using it again?
i have had a card fail on me, and was able to get it back and it worked fine. seemed to be just a tad bit slower the second time around, but nonetheless it worked.
it was weird thought, windows wouldnt detect it, and my phone wouldnt either. i had to go into drive management and it was seen there. once i got that squared away and go tit formatted all worked well.
as far as saving your files, im not sure... i try to backup my sdcard about once a week (simply overwrite any files that havent changed). you may be able to use a disk recovery utility, such as the ones that are used to retrieve files from dead HDD's.
i had this problem on stock
i ended up putting my sd card in the pc and backing everything up (everything was fine even after the phone showed it was corrupted)
reformatted my sdcard
tested and still got the error
so i pulled the sdcard back out, started the phone up without any sdcard inserted. after putting card back in and booting up never had the problem again
since rooting, i've never run into this problem either

memory card woes

Once again scan disc let me down, im back on my trusty 8gig samsung card.
My point being about making this thread, is there any way to recover the cards data?
I know this has been asked before, but heres the the details-
* the card cannot be accessed or detected in a card reader
* in the phone the card can be detected but it wont let me unmount/ mount or format the card
The card literly just died, no factors such as power issues via readers, water or temp.
Totally gutted as theres pics on there i really wanted to keep
Hiya
Not sure if it will work, but try putting it into another phone or a digital camera and see if its recognised by those, if it is you will probably have the option to then format it, once formatted it should then be recognised by windows.
Devices such as mobile phones dont normally do a low level format, meaning you could then use a 3rd party software such as Easus data recovery to recover your info.
I've had major issues with SD cards in my DHD, the phone just refuses to "see" any card at all, tried 3 different ones in total ;(
not sure how it'll work if it can't be seen by your reader though.some readers won't read sdhc cards,so maybe try a different reader(a friends)

No joy in either card reader or camera, i guess i lost everything?
Im so pissed and gutted!

SD Card problems...

Hi all,
For some reason my Atrix has stopped recognising my external SD card - I've tried multiple cards, formatted them etc etc and still nothing. Has anyone else had this problem?
Cheers
No, are you sure its in all the way? Make sure its mounted too and if its plugged in set the USB mode to "none" and wait a minute - just covering the basics

When you formatted make sure you re-mounted

Thanks for the responses.
The card is all the way in, but it appears the phone doesn't recognise it at all. In the SD card settings it doesn't show anything is inserted, so I can't mount it. In the file explorer, when I choose SD Card it says 'Insert SD Card'.
It was previously working :/
Did you ever try and force it in or rip it out? In which case the sensors could have been damaged on the phone, try the sd's on a different phone, if it works then its deffinitely the atrix

It could also be that the sd's. Are formatted incorrectly so that the system doesn't recognise them

I had this problem with my Atrix, but it was a physical problem, not software.
You might need to bend two pins to make contact so that the Atrix can read the card.

At the very bottom is a picture of the phone with the back off. If you look at the SD card slot using the Huge View, you will see two small plates on the lower left of the picture (at the end of the SD card slot) that are slightly parted. When you put your card in, those two plates must touch for the SD card to be recognized.
Push them very slightly to make them closer and try again.
There's a lot of mounting, inserting, hardware and software going on in this thread.
Although I don't recommend forcing it in. It may not be accustomed to such force.
Ok all gutter thinking aside, is it just your SD cards? Maybe brand issues? If not, have you tried INSERTING someone else's....card to see if it makes a SOLID connection to the PORT? (Last one I promise).
Try it in a different phone, if it doesn't work its the sdcard if it does then its your atrix and you should either fix it or claim warranty

Thanks again for the responses.
I have tried several cards in there now, to no avail. The phone did previously recognise the SD cards but it hasn't worked in about a week now. Unfortunately, I'm in the UK and I bought my Atrix from the US - I'm guessing Motorola will probably kick up a fuss regarding the warranty...
Cheers

Did you at least take a look at the pins to see if they're in contact when the SD card is inserted?
I had the exact same problem! It did appear to be the pins not making contact, however in my phone i didn't need to bend anything i just needed to slide the card a little unconventionally.
Basically if you are holding your phone with the battery facing you and the side with the sd card at the bottom left of the phone, place your finger on the card once it has already been inserted and slide it down as much as possible. In my phone it turned out there was a tiny little wiggle room in that direction, and when i pushed it it recognized right away and stayed that way. Maybe yours is the same!
Good luck!
It does appear to be the pins - Thanks guys!

Dropped phone, now it can't see my micro SD

Hi guys, I dropped my phone for the first time EVER in my life (was really sleepy).
Now I can't use my sd card, the phone gave me a popup that it was unexpectedly removed and after that it keeps saying it encountered a problem.
Things like Gallery tell me to "please insert an sd card", it's in there!
I have no idea what to do and it's at least three months left until I can get a new phone, please help me.
Oh, by the way, my phone's not rooted, just normal HTC Sense.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Thread can be closed, I was a dummy and didn't try to remove battery first.
Haha i know the feeling

try to remove it and put it back again. if that doesnt help..recover your photos and everything else with some software and format it
Oh my God..
I didn't even drop it and now it happened again!
Removing the battery and micro sd card didn't work. :crying:
Depending on what important info you have on your SD card, you could consider formatting it via your PC, if you have an SD card slot somewhere.
I had a similar issue some months ago, and formatting the card (via Windows) did the trick.
Of course, remember that formatting the card will erase all data on it, and therefore it could render some apps on your phone to be useless / or not work.
(This might sound weird, but if you have another SD card, try formatting that too and putting that in your phone. Then take out the battery, put the original SD card in and see if it is OK after booting up.)

[Q] SD card reading issue

Hi Guys! Recently my DVP felt down and the LCD is crashed so I would like to make a use of its SD card. Here I encountered some problems. Non of the card readers wants to open this card. It even doesn't show up as a mounted device (Debian). Is it somehow locked or so ? When I pack it back to DVP it works still fine. Any ideas how to format it to make use of it ?
Regards
I have the same exact issue as you!!
Dropped my DVP and cracked the screen. Still turns on, but can't see anything as the LCD is dead.
None of my card readers read the card. I have other SDHCs which open perfectly.
I would also like to know if there is some way to force format it.
My card reader drive on my laptop does not show up unless a card is inserted. Since it isn't reading the card, nothing is showing up.

This is a known issue, All windows phones lock the SD card and format it in an unreadable format.
There used to be a list in the HD2 WP7 section with devices that can reformat the SD card. (I believe nokia phones are among them).
Thanks man!
