Hi there,
I found few websites that offer an unlock code, but I just wanted to check it with you guys which service is the most reliable.
My Desire HD is on its way to me, but it will be locked to T-Mobile UK and I will need it unlocked.
Any recommendations? Or perhaps there is a DIY, free way to unlock it?
Thanks
Yep, there is a free way to unlock it. Over in the Dev section there is a tool to Root, S-OFF, Unlocked CID & SimUnlock all in one.
If you dont want to do all that and just unlock the SIM, I have personally used http://www.unlock-now.com/ for my HTC Hero. I had no problems, and I got a code in 15 minutes.
I've just checked and they support the DHD, just make sure you use your Paypal account, "just in case" there are any problems, atleast you'd get your money back.

Thanks a lot for a clear answer
I'll try the "free" way first, otherwise I will go to the site you provided.
Although when you said about money back I'm not sure about this. I bought something once from one of the worldwide websites and something went wrong and when I wanted to get my money back, PP said that they don't support "other" websites than eBay. But it may have changed now.
Thanks for your help anyway I will definitely go for it.
No problem at all.
I can confirm that if you log in to your PayPal account then pay, you should still be covered. I previously tried to buy a unlock code for my Hero from >> www.htccode.com <<, I did not recieve my code and submitted a PayPal dispute. After 21 days or so I got my money back.
I wouldn't recommend that site to anyone, others may have used it and had success. Strangely Google Chrome now flags the site "Malware Detected".
Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S which can be easily unlocked by code. A friend want to buy a HTC Desire HD, so we want to know about the unlock as well.
I was looking at the Tool Radio S-Off. I want to know if it's the same as unlocking by code, or I will lost my SimUnlock by restoring the Desire HD?
The tool in the Dev section is very different from a code you would normally buy.
If you or your friend is comfortable and experienced in using the SDK, adb & fastboot then you should have no problems in using this tool.
Make sure you read & re-read any steps before you perform them. I almost bricked my wife's SGS! - Fortunately her's did not have a faulty download/recovery.
I almost broke my SGS many time and I have a faulty device without R&D. Luckily, it can be fixed but I always check its avaibility before every flash.
My friend know nothing about IT in general, that's why I want to know there is a tool which can generate the code like the case of SGS (as I understand, the code is available in the phone itself for the SGS, but it may not be the case for the Desire HD).
I don't know how this tool works, whether it retrieves a stored code or not.
If you've read though the guides and its something you'd want to try both for the experience and an unlocked DHD then I'd be happy to help should you get stuck.
EDIT: Here is the link for the unlock guide --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857444

Will I loose unlock when Android will be updated to future firmwares?
No, once you have SimUnlocked your DHD that is it. It will not locked again.

Good
So is this guide good for the first-time-android-user? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857444
What's missing in this guide for noobs? Things like, at which point should I connect my DHD to the computer? Does all these apps work under win7 64-bit? Or do I have to install any additional software etc etc?
Thanks

HTC touch pin problem
Hi Guys,
I bought a HTC touch. I got an unlock code through a software in this forum. My problem is that when I put a foreign sim card, it is asking me for some pin number. I am not really sure what that pin number is as I never set one.
Can you help me reset it to some default number.
What is the defualt number for HTC touch. I should try that too.
Cheers

If you unlock it then kiss goodbye to any warranty from Orange. And if you **** up the unlock you will have an expensive little useless object of art.
Mine is on Orange and I think orange is great but now I have changed my white case to black my warranty has gone but I am still not tempted to unlock it, too risky for me.
Hi guys i am very new on this subject and i just need some info about unlocking my wildfire.
I read quite a few post but i didn't found something step by step and finally to work.
So basically i just need to unlock my phone from the network(vodafone)so i can use it in other networks.
So what is the best solution:
1.Gold card
2.Unrevoked
3.ROM FLASHING GUIDE FOR NOOBs(if it works).
Thanks and sorry for opening a new thread even if so much information can be found on this site.
A quick walkthrough would be much apreciated for a solution.
Well I have done all the steps you pointed out and I'm still locked to t-mobile so I guess gold card, root and flash is not enough to unlock it but only to debrand your phone.

Thanks for your feedback it seems i don't have other choice but this. Except HTCsimUnlock you now other trusty sites so i can get a sim code .
I tried htcsimunlock.com but they said they couldn't unlock it for 20$ what I have paid already,so I should pay them another 20$ and then they maybe can unlock it...I sayd no, they refunded my money. So it wasn't such a good experience for me.
Well as far as i know a lot of ppl are facing problems getting codes from htccodes.com and htcsimunlock.com just for everyone's info..
SIM UNLOCK IS NOT DEBRANDING, ROOTING, GOLDCARD.. Its an entirely different thing so do not confuse these things..and one should use Sim Unlocker / Code generator for the same which is not yet available for wildfire ..
I got one from mobileunlocked.co.uk it wasn't cheap at £23.50 but I couldn't find anyone else who could do it. 3 or 4 dites said they could but I ended up getting refunded
Mine was locked to 3 and I needed Vodafone
If your phone is new, ie manufactured after the month of May, it will cost you more and many sites do not have access to this latest database.
How can you tell the manufacture date? a sticker on the phone?
Any chance of a free unlock code?

Htc wildfire great phone rooted and with psfreeedom great stuff but still locked.
I read some post on the samsung galaxyS and they have a aplication for android and works like this :
Step 1, Get the code:
Install the app below. When you run the app, it will search for the unlock and unfreeze codes on your phone.
After it aquires the codes, they will be saved to your sd card in a text file. You can also write them down or email them to yourself with the email button.
Step 2, Enter code:
Power down the phone
Put in a SIM card from another carrier
Power up the phone When it boots up enter the unlock code when asked
Very simple i really hope that someone can help us with something like this for wildfire.

Those steps were only a example of how the application works ,the orginal thread you can find here:

the app is exclusively for Samsung. Tried it on the wildfire but nothing. will search more deep for a free unlock solution
I am not sure it work, this app specialy for samsung ...
At htcsimunlock.com it states:
MPORTANT – Please read prior to purchasing any codes.
You must first check to see if your phone accepts an unlock code. To do this simply insert a different network sim card into your mobile phone and see if the unlock code screen is displayed. If a screen where you must enter the unlock code is not displayd, or if you don't have this option in your phone menu, please do NOT purchase an unlock code. If you still go ahead and order then we will provide you with the unlock code but you will NOT be able to enter it and you will NOT be eligible for a refund.

There hardly is any branding. A startup-picture and some web favourites inside the browser that you can delete, maybe a provider-specific app. No hardware branding at all.
But if you mean the SIM lock to one provider than that's what is discussed in this thread.

I know the difference between a software/hardware branding and a sim unlock. I was specially talking about the provider specific startup picture. Everything else is easy removable Any way to remove that one ?

Has anyone tested this? I tried but software doesn't load properly.
Or is it illegal? I have no idea as i've never done anykind of unlocking/modding before.
That was hardware based tool. You need a SPT Box (which cost arround 200EUR).
Paid unlock details removed - refer to the forum rules please.
I am in a similar situation with a phone locked to Three (in the UK).
I have tried SPT but it won't load with a "Smart card resource manager is not running" error.
The link in the second post no longer goes to anywhere.

Yes, the link in first post is down :-/

Oh no.... I also bought an Omnia 7 with 3 Austria lock. Can someone plz tell me how I can can unlock it. It s important i have the phone now but I can´t phone or sms with it, that sucks... Is that Ebay Link only for T-Mobile and At&T ? But in the description is sayed that it s for all european carriers ? So can i unlock my 3 Austria phone with this Ebay Link ? Are t-Mobile an AT&T only Examples ?
Thx for your help
I think you will be OK. Reading some of the feedback it would appear that 3 ,Orange and T-Mobile phones can all be unlocked. Why not send him a message and ask him specifically about 3 Austria.
I used this bay seller and i got the code back the same day and it worked fine.
My only problem now is that i can't get the internet to work? Calling and messaging is fine. I understand that MMS doesnt work but i cant open an explorer page or anything. I tried some different APN setting but still no luck.
Does anyone have any tips?
I unlocked my phone from t-mobile EU and trying to use UK Vodafone.
Thanks!
I found my own solution! If anyone else need them, the APN settings for Vodafone are..
APN: internet
Username: Web
Password: Web
i was just wondering if the htc surround was worth unbranding? if thats what you call it i'm still new to all of this....if someone who has unlocked there htc surround could reply and tell me if it is worth it and tell me how i would greatly appericate it
I unbranded mine and I would say it was worth it to get the Nodo buld earlier. It saved me from buying a new phone
I think what you are asking is if it is worth developer unlocking... and I would again say yes. You can run homebrew apps and more importantly use the provxml deployer to change registry values. That feature right there is the single most important reason.
I would still get a WP7 device like the HD7s or anything with larger screen on ATT. The slideout speakers are not loud enough to warrant the extra bulk IMO.
well i already have the htc surround....can yu give me the info on how to unlock it....it would be greatly appreciated...

Bump!
I would like to know how to unlock this as well.
so is anyone going to help me out and give me directions or a link to some direction on how to developer unlock the htc surround?
You should start by reading the threads in the WP7 development section. They have support and tools for working with WP7 devices of all models and you may find more support there because of the low number of people who bought the surround.
To developer unlock was literally as easy as pressing the unlock button, then using Provxml deployer to change the registry to never re-lock.
Hi! I know the answer is out there in pieces, but after spending hours trying to piece it together, I'm still at a loss. This noob really appreciates any help you can provide.
I am trying desperately to find a way to export the text messages/SMS from my device to a text file on my computer.
Here are my details:
I have a Verizon HTC Trophy (HTC mwp6985).
The OS version is 7.10.8773.98 and the bootloader version is 3.2.230513.2.
The phone is not unlocked in any way. (I'm a dummy but willing to try anything.)
I only need to export the text messages. I won't need to import/restore anything.
I care about nothing else on or about the device. Everything else can be wiped, I'm willing to take the phone apart, I'm willing to screw up the phone in any way to accomplish this. (I've already moved on to a new phone and will probably donate this one.)
I don't need the pictures, just the text.
I realize that the desire to export SMS seems silly to some people, but I have my reasons.
Here is what I've gleaned (not all of which I comprehend):
An SMSBackup homebrew app exists that would allow me to upload my text messages to SkyDrive, but my phone must be interop-unlocked. The only way to interop-unlock my device is with a custom ROM.
The only way to install a custom ROM is by downgrading the OS to 1.x spl and installing RSPL / HSPL.
The only way to downgrade the OS to 1.x spl is to use the GoldCard method which requires me to purchase an SD card/reader, a USB y-cable, and a USB gender changer.
Before I go out, buy these things, and spend more hours trying to crack this nut, could somebody let me know if I'm on the right track, if this is possible, and are there additional caveats or exceptions that would make this unworkable for me? Thank you!!
Looks like I'm not the only one stumped by this!
Ok, well, thanks anyway!
I think you need to be fully unlocked for this. but,I could be wrong. There is the SMSbackup app you can sideload (look in the WP7 dev/hacking area) If you run this one of the options is to export to your skydrive. Then just download the file to your PC. That is what I did....
I really think you need Root access on your phone to do this....but, if you find the thread with SMSbackup, you should be able to find what you need to run it.
If you are not even unlocked, you might be out of luck, you need to be able to at least sideload it, never mind the other permissions you need for it.
Now, the next question is how to I get a full unlock, easy, Root your phone this way..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1503298
and install a rom but, the catch is, if you flash a rom, you use your SMS messages, so what is the point ? Can't help you with that one...but, you can have Windows Phone 7.8 now if you want...worth it ?
You dont need to buy anything to flash a rom, you just need to unlock, install a old rom (to download your firmware) then update to the custom rom of your choice but, it does not help as you will lose your SMS.
The ONLY way to get a Unlock on your phone WITH OUT losing you SMS is the legal way, A Microsoft Dev account, $99, and even then you might not be able to get to interop to do what you want...You need to reseach that a little...
Good luck and dont forget to hit thanks if this helped a little...
Thank you! That helps me completely, as that was one of my nagging suspicions (that I'd lose the SMSs in the process). Looks like I'll be transcribing by hand. In any case, your advice is much appreciated.

No problem and thanks ! If your staying with your phone, I might say to go with the rooted route, so if you need to export them later, you can do it. There is a lot of nice perks to having a rooted phone and you can get 7.8 now, not wait till next year. There is a lot of fun and cool little tools out there to have fun with your phone, even a cool tool marketplace (free tools from XDA on a marketplace), even Wi-Fi tethering with out having to pay VZW extra for it.
If you end up rooting your phone with a new rom, the import of SMS does not work too well,at least for me. It does import but for me, it added extra threads so for each user. I had 2 SMS threads as using the imported one didn't work for me, I could read them but, if I replied to a imported one, it would create a new thread for it. Also, it does not backup picture messages, so you want to save your pictures one by one to keep them.
Good luck.
BTW...if your a sudent (edu email address), there might be a way to unlock your phone for free (free Dev account, dreamspark) with a little work. That does not solve the interop unlock but, it could get you almost there. Otherwise, it's a $99/yr account.
