I don't think you need it.
I first used the PIT and the TAR and it said it was successful but then the phone didn't boot and I got the phone and pc pic at bootup.

Flashing just modem with Odin

Hello
I'm trying to flash the jpu modem on stock jpy since I had good results with it. I don't really know where to get it correctly. I've found a jpu modem in the doc rom thread, but it's some zip file, i took the modem.bin file out and just made a TAR out of it. seems other modem tar files include just that.
But i don't know if it's correct.
And I'd welcome info on how to flash it, should I put it in the phone field?
Since this is a great way to brick a phone, I'd like some advice on this matter.
Thank you.
You can use heimdal and just flash the modem.bin directly

Don't put it in a TAR file. Just flash the modem.bin directly. Put it in the "PHONE" box. Make sure Repartition is unchecked and no other fields are filled.
After it's done, go to About to verify it flashed correctly. (Look at Baseband)
Done, running JPU modem on stock JPY...seems to also boot faster now
Thank you.
Hi
I am new to Flashing .. Do I need to do Factory Reset even for flashing only the modem.bin file or not..pls reply.

The .zip file in Doc's thread is meant to be flashed through recovery (CWM or 2e). But I guess flashing through Odin worked for you, so all's well.

About using Odin and Flashing New EB13

I am wanting to flash EB13 back and make everything stock.
Question is I have the EB13.tar.md5 files, and I will use Odin with that in the PDA section.
What PIT file do I use with that or does it not matter. I have the one that came with Odin as well as s1_odin_20100512.pit
I just dont know what the pit file does and if it needs to be paired with other files correctly.
Thx,
Force
When flashing a full tar file pit is not needed. Just pit the tar in PDA and make sure reboot is the only thing checked on the left side and hit Start. Should take like 3-5 mins total

Alright, I made a mistake. What do...

I have an S4 with TWRP 2.6 + CyanogenMod 10.1.3, and CF Autoroot.
I wanted to start over again, so I went into TWRP and rest everything.
Now it won't boot.
I can get into download and recovery (TWRP is somehow still present)
The pieces are here. What I'd like to do is somehow nuke all aftermarket mods, and start over.
So, how do I get it to boot up?
Go back into twrp and flash the rom again.

The ROM isn't present. All data was nuked.
So apperently recovery is gone, and now I can get into stock recovery.. but it has a red tri-angle. WHat do?
This will get you back to stock.

Head over to that thread and find the stock ROM. Your going to have to ODIN back to stock.
So long as I can get into recovery or download, my device isn't screwed, right?

That seems to be the general concensus.
When you can't get to download and recovery, then you're screwed.
Odexed is the way the phone comes out of the box.
Deodexed allows you to add themes and other mods, I think.
Not super sure on that.

Alright. I have the Odexed one. it's a .tar.rar. I simply go into download mode, throw the file into PDA on ODIN, and flash?

Extract the .tar file from the .rar
Do not extract anything from the .tar
Flash the .tar in PDA mode.
Be patient after reboot.
Can take quite a while for the system to rebuild.

What program for extracting? In my Downloads, it's just a white page. No extract option.

it was one file. It was ".tar.rar"
I extracted to desktop, and it's still one file. Only now it's a .tar.MD5

So what is the filename you load into Odin? The whole firmware or just a modem?
Try to load only the "modem.bin" file

No no, I didnt mean to rename that big file to modem.bin.
The file you are using is a whole firmware. Try to rename it to *.TAR, then open with with WinRAR. You will see a modem.bin file inside. Extract this file (its size is only about 50MB) and flash only this file.
You guys sure you want to flash a 900W modem onto a N9005 phone?

Should I update my PIT file?

Hello, I've got this question when I downloaded a new firmware for my phone and found another pit file inside the package. I used that pit file to flash the new firmware instead of the original one extracted from my phone using Heimdall, but it gave me some issues such as file systems with wrong size and so on.
I found an option called "repartition" in Heimdall and Odin which does upload the new pit into the phone but I haven't tried that option yet.
The question is: Should I update the new partition file to my phone using the repartition option? Or should I keep using the old one?
Another question: Why do new releases have a pit file? Does that mean that I have to repartition my phone?
As you can see attached below the two files differ from 3 kilobytes of size
