Droid Pro rooted with Z4Root - Droid Pro General

Hi guys, just received my Pro today and I confirm the phone has been rooted with Z4Root; I have tested ClockSync and Wireless Tether without any hassle.
One thing though. Download the Z4 APK thru Dropbox or install it from the SD card, since Verizon seems to have blocked it from the market with the network provider code. You can change the code so you can have unrestricted access later on with Marketenabler or similar apps.

I grabbed z4 from the market right after I bought it with no hassle

I couldn't get it from the market but I got it off xda and now my girls pro is rooted. No issues. My next question is can I now use root explorer to remove all the bloat without issue?

You could, but I would say go with titanium backup. some of the apps names don't make sense when looking with root explorer, but they do with TB. Make sure you back everything up, then it's easy.

Stock email.apk
Hey guys, I agree, use titanium backup for removing bloatware. I used root explorer to remove some stuff and accidentally deleted email.apk file. I didn't have any backup :-(
Can someone please send me a copy of the email.apk file or share any link from where I can download it.

Backup Private App - Roadsync

Hi,
I searched the forum but cannot find the answer to this specific issue.
I downloaded Roadsync from market to my Hero a few months ago and have been using that for Exchange. After the trial period I purchased it from Market. The way this works is that you purchase an app that contains a license key.
Since then I have been struck with ORD (Obsessive-ROM Updating Disorder) and re-installed Roadsynch and the license key of market lots of times.
I have now purchased a HTC Legend. You cannot download Roadsync with 2.1 since the developer hasnt cleared it for 2.1 yet but I have managed to install the Roadsync trial, using Astro to export it from my Hero. It works just fine.
However, it is now due to expire within a couple of days and I cannot seem to find any way to get the License Key APK (which is a "private app") of my Hero.
Anyone got any idea how to do this?
The key apk should be in /data/app-private folder. Pull it from there and reinstall on Legend.
Beware that this process will not restore the market link to license key app.
Grab Titanium Backup from Market and backup the license key app. You can then grab those backup files (.properties, .tar.gz and .apk.gz) from /sdcard/TitaniumBackup. This WILL restore the Market link.

Sure, but the question is how useful is to restore market link anyways cause app cannot be downloaded from market on 2.1 ROM.

True enough. Just thought I'd mention an alternative procedure, since you made it a point the market link wouldn't be restored via your method.
That's cool It's always better to have couple of aces in the sleeve, right
Hi Guys,
Just wanted to let you know that it worked
I installed Titanium Backup on the Hero and successfully backed up the "Roadysync Full Version Key apk".
Using Astro I saw hat it was stored in "TitaniumBackup" on the SDCard.
Titanium Backup could not be installed on the Legend since it requires root access, however using Astro I found the apk and chose to send it via gmail to my own adress.
Back on the Legend i downloaded the apk using googles website (not app). I then used Astro to extract it in the download folder, and VOILA..the Apk was there and could be installed just fine
Its working just brilliant. Any Roadsync people out there? You should know that it is working like a charm on 2.1.

I'm not sure about app monster but the latest versions of Titanium back up can force applications to link in the market.
You could always try that, but you'll have to wait for root.

app monster just sits in the background backing up the APK as its installed basically you end up with a folder called APPMONSTER full of APK files that you have downloaded or installed from SD card in their original uninstalled state not quite sure what your getting at regarding market links but they are as they were originally nothing gets changed from the original apk its backed up as a whole file if you mean does it appear in the market download section as when you download from the market then no! no app (at least what I have reinstalled/installed) from the SD using appmonsters cache on the sd card will/have appeared in the market downloads section
I use MyBackup Pro. I started using it before I debranded my phone and obviously lost everything in the process. I restored my backup and all the apps were linked to the market.
(also restores loads of other stuff, if u want it to, Contacts, Call Log, Bookmarks, SMS, MMS, System Settings, Android Home, Alarms, Dictionary, Calendar, Music Playlist)
It's $4.99 but theres a 30 day free trial, so if it's just for one job, may be worth giving it a go.
So, prividing that after the 2.1 update we won't be able to root
(at least immediately), if I use MyBackup, will the applications be automatically re-installed via Restore option?
I know that app data recovery is not possible without root, but will at least avoid the manual re-installation?
Has someone used MyBackup is a non rooted phone to confirm how is the restore actually working?

How do I delete some of the bloatware on my rooted stock rom?

I love the blur but I ant stand some of these programs that are running in the background that I don't even use like Verizon navigator.... how do I uninstall them?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
i found out the hard way it's best to not delete them. try titanium backup and make a full backup of your phone and go ahead and get the pro version which allows you to "freeze" bloatware to keep it from running. i read that TB has a problem restoring some apps in froyo 2.2 so be careful no matter what you do. it takes forever to get any help around here (yes i know it's all voluntary, but still....) so use the time to read up on these subjects.
Try root explorer and rename the apps to .bak, they are in system/app. Or use titanium backup to delete them ( make a backup first )

I also advise you. Do not uninstall. rename to "vznav.apk.bak". the system will no longer recognize them with the new "backup" extension.
The reason being - when the next upgrade arrives for the X - you won't be able to receive it unless you have all of Verizons crap on your phone. So you look through your
system/app
folder and just re rename all your ".bak" (vznav.apk for example).
and before you do anything - make a back up of your phone using the DroidX Bootstrapper app.
Just my .02 cents.

[Q] z4 root? how to? where?

I am new to this and all I am looking for is wireless tether. Can anyone help please? Where do I find z4 root and then how do I use it and what else do I need to download? Thanks
Here you go!

Thanks but when I look on the market I cannot find z4 root. Anywhere else it could be?
z4root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
wireless tether http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Just as an.fyi as someone has provided links....
Z4root was removed from the market. You have to find it here on forums or floating around on the web
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Ok so I found it on google somewhere I installed. It ask if I want temp or permanent. After I pick one how long should it take. And do I need to install anything else
i forget if z4root wipes your phone, but i suggest doing a batch backup of all your apps and system data in titanium backup (on the market) and def get dxbootstrap to make nandroid backups if you plan on doing anything further with your phone in the future.
thanks i dont really know what that means
except for a backup file
nandroid is a complete backup. and when i say complete, i dont know another word that can describe how much i mean complete. it has every little detail down to your text messages.
titanium backup is an app that is just awesome. it can backup, freeze, and uninstall apps and system data/apps
Z4root doesn't wipe your phone... once it's done doing its thing and you're successfully rooted you won't even notice anything different (except for superuser in your app drawer) .... you'll know if you're rooted once an app that required root works...good luck!

[Q] titanium backup root access

Hi,
I've rooted my Aria using Unrevoked and loaded FR008 ROM, however Titanium Backup keeps telling me that the phone is not yet rooted.
I wonder if anyone has similar experience with Titanium Backup.
Thanks.

I personally have not but what i'm wondering is...have you tried any other apps such as "my backup root" and received the same message?
oh, also, you can try going into the superuser app and see if anything regarding titanium backup is messed up in there (i.e. being denied root access)
Make sure you accidentally didn't disallow titanium root access in the superuser app.
If you previously allowed it, remove the entry and let it re-ask permission.

Thanks. My backup root works just fine. Will give Titanium another try later.
