Hi, my HTC Legend seems to have developed a digitizer problem, there is a dead area, which appears to be a column from top to bottom in an area of the screen.#
Is there an easy way to fix this? I have tried a full factory reset just incase, and I have also reset the touchscreen calibration.
Any suggestions gratefully recieved. I wonder how much HTC charge to replace it.
Seems more like HW issue, can you take a picture? I'd have it repaired in warranty....no?

If you have the original HTC warranty declaration, they should take it back in an authorised service center with no questions, at least it is how it works here in CZ

I have unrooted it by putting my goldcard in and putting an old 2.1 Vodaphone RRU on. My only question is now, when the phone comes back, if they decide to put Vodafone Froyo on it, can it still be rooted using clockworkmod? I assume I can always downgrade it with a goldcard?
I'm worried they might update it (or the bootloader) to a version that can't be downgraded and then rooted. Is everything rootable on Legend, including Froyo?

Yes, there are ways to downgrade from Froyo OTA, so it should work on the returned device as well. However if you are sending the device to HTC, the will most llikely replace the ROM with the latest unbranded one...(which right now is 2.1 Android)

Biggest problem is you could brick your device. The other is yes technically it does void your warranty but I have never heard of anyone being denied warranty exchanges on a root device.
It's always been my experience that bricks aren't likely. I've flashed quite a few things. Is it any more likely in this case?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
If you can read then you won't have problem rooting. Everything is writing in steps. Unless you are a retard then don't try .
Hahaha I think I'll be alright. Other than almost dd'ing a hard drive the wrong way once I'm pretty astute. I'll probably root next week.

Anyone have favorites on roms, while we're at it.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Hey mate, if I can root anyone can, if u need help pm me. As roms go, u can't really go wrong. Iced and the DHD (desire hd) roms are much like what your running stock just with slightly improved graphics and other customizations. Miui is from another planet where android and ios had a baby, slick smooth and very dif from any other rom ive ever tried. I like it but its kinda like a plymouth prowler, kinda cool lookin but just not quick enough. Cm-6 is prolly the best and def the cleanest android experience. Ive had a couple issues with it but its still what im running.
Awesome reply srivers33 good info. I was leaning towards iced (seems pretty popular) I am looking for something more vanilla but def not a requirement. I might just flash a few and try them each for a little.

Backups
Always make sure u do a true perm root and use rom manager and its clockwork mod recovery to back up the stock. That way if stock 2.3 releases before a good 2.3 rom releases you can just flash and update to 2.3!!!
Thanks dont think I read that in any posts, its a good idea. Definitely sounds easier to go back
HTC says via Facebook that the Roll Out of the Gingerbread Update starts tomorrow in Germany!

Would I be correct in asying that even though my phone is currently rooted and running CM7 I could flash to this and unroot so I could send my phone back for a warrenty if I needed it?
Or do they release them only as upgrades and thus there is now no going back as I wouldn't be able to upgrade without the orginal.
Also I need an orange one for warrenty as my phone is meant to be orange locked.

You just need a sense rom and stock boot splash/animation. The people in the phone store are retarded.

They are not retarded just that it is not their job to find out whether the phone have customed rom, etc. To them, they gain nothing from investigating the phone for mods.
2.3 update romania
it started today in romania dhd bought from orange romania
I think too that people in stores don't know nothing about hacked/rooted or customised roms......i was in my carrier store 2 days before and asked about 2.3 update and that carrier phones get update later than unbrended phones, and they looked at me like I fell from mars, they didn't know what hit them......anyways back to the topic if anyone gets 2.3 please post the news.

Well I am with BASE (E-Plus) in Germany and cannot update yet... grr.
I see a lot of posts about sending it to t-mobile, but what if you send it directly to htc?
I am about to send my phone in for replacement but I cant unroot my phone, s=on and flash the recovery to stock.
just want to know if its even worth it

If they check your phone and see you have root - they will refuse to replace it. Use the guide to unroot it, its easy

Try to do a backup of everything (except the SD card) with MyBackup app. Don't forget about the contacts, although I don't think they will be deleted.(you can export them to SD from the stock people app). Also, you will have to set up your accounts again. Phone settings and home screen can be restored with MyBackup.
I had to do a master reset after the update ,too.
Just downloading now on my unbranded DHD in Australia love updates makes my phone feel new again

My DHD has probably forgotten what the stock ROM felt like, doesn't miss it much anyways.

UK unbranded T-Mobile and still waiting. Took a week or two get the Gingerbread update so not expecting it this week.
I installed it almost a week ago and I'm very happy with it. Speed has improved and also the animations are cool and the new widgets. Only thing that bothers me that the battery drains faster now. But besides of that I'm very happy with the update and I'm looking forward to see the ICS rom if not on air than from a custom rom.
Anybody got this update in Vodafone Australia?
Thanks

For me it's still true. Dropped mine in the lift twice and my kid smash it directly to the TV rack (solid wood). Some dent visible a the edge of the screen (the plastic parts) and now some dirt is inside the LCD! Still working well :good:
Would returning to stock be the only way to get access to ICS OTA update? Or would flashing a rooted, but otherwise untouched, RUU version give me the option to check for (and install) the OTA When it finally arrives?
I'm guessing not as this would be a far too easy way to do things.

Yes you can flash the ruu and accept the ICS OTA even with S-OFF as long you got stock recovery (which you get from the ruu) and is not supercid.

Supercid? That's a new one to me. Heard of it.... Not a clue what it is. I'll give it a search later.
If I where to use the OTA, would that have any effect on root? As in would I lose it?
I'll most likely stay on Leedroid until a suitable custom ROM appears. I imagine that there's a ton of devs poised to whip out the finished article as soon as they get access to the kernel and source material needed.
