I dropped my phone and I'm getting a new one from ATT. They are shipping a new one and don't want the old one. Sweet.
Is it just a matter of rooting and flashing a backup to the new phone? Are android backups specific to serial numbers?

I am pretty sure that restoring a backup from another phone will Fu*kup the phone. From what I have read in these posts the backups are phone specific and don't play nice with others. But hey its your phone. Try it and then repost and let us know what happens.

I got a replacement and backed up my ROM, rooted the new one, swapped SD cards, flashed the backup, and I have had no problems whatsoever! Runs like a MoFo

Got the replacement Aria today. Brand new. One thing they did not include is any reference, info, or instruction regarding what to do with the old phone. Seems they don't want it. I'm ok with that.
All I have to do now is clone my old phone into the new one. Can I simply take a nandroid backup and flash it to the new phone? I've heard one yes and one no. The no came with a claim of bad things happening.
Survey says...?

And read the one above that one. score is tied 1-1.
My last Intruder was a Grumman A-6E.
Again... No issues after 3.5 weeks!
Just saying!
My replacement came with a return shipping label and tape to tape the box back up!

Ok Ive been a long time iphone owner since they came out and ive never owned an android product. Im tired of the crappy service I get with att anywhere outside of large cities and the iphone in general so me and my wife are switching over to verizon. We both ordered the droid x two days ago and somehow we are getting them tomarrow despite the aug 4th ship date that they said. The more I review about android OS and the droid x the more I think I will love it compared to the iphone. My question is which meathod of rooting should I take. Ive never rooted before of course so should I use the one click method or the list of instructions method. Im real tech savvy so if the list instructions way to root it is the best im comfortable with that. My next questions is on updates. Do i need to have the phone unrooted everytime that I preform an update or is that unnessisary? Also if I delete or rename some basic bloat ware do I need to make sure it is all back the same before I update? Thanks for any help and I look forward to be on the droid side
Ok i have my phone. Any answers to my post? Is this the wrong site to be asking this?

I rooted mine using better terminal emulator right on my phone. Took all of 15 mins maybe. I've never done the one click thing but have heard great things about it. I guess its really what you're comfortable with. Just make sure you take your time and don't miss any steps!
Good luck & welcome to DROID!

Thanks for your reply. If i root now will it conflict with future updates?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
It shouldn't. At least it hasn't yet. Just be careful with what bloat you delete. Make sure you keep anything that is blur related and verizons backup assistant. Its been said you will brick if you delete any of those.

I've rooted several phones and the one click was so easy. Once I extracted the files & installed the drivers it took less than a minute.

+1 for the one-click method!! it worked flawlessly!

Flash back to stock, take it to tmo and ask for sims 3 say the games were not there. since they don't know how to get the games back at the tmo store, they'll probably give you another new phone. LOL

I'm actually wondering about this, too. I tried restoring the game from Titanium, but it never reappears.
If we could find a ROM that it's included in we could probably yoink it from there. Idk which or where to find that off hand.

No reason to do that. The data gets wiped when you use odin to repartition. I have a .apk to get it back but you will have to pm me. Not sure if it's against forum rules to post here

I feel your pain with this problem my friend... as I had the exact same problem myself and couldn't find anybody to help me! Luckily I was able to figure it with a little help from one of the forum members. Here are the steps, it's EASY!
If you have a backup of the application from titanium backup, restore it. Yes, I know it doesn't restore the launcher for the program. We'll fix that.
Next shoot the file I've attached to somewhere on your internal SDCARD.
Download App Monster and install the .apk file for the launcher. You can also try running adb install, however depending what ROM your running that might not work. App Monster makes it relatively painless, and it's free from the market.
Viola! The Sims 3 game is reinstalled!
Hopefully you have a backup of the game. I've got the full .apk file for it, however I'm hesitant to upload it on any threads for obvious reasons.
And like previously mentioned, you can also just restore to stock ROM and all will be right as rain.
Hope this helps!
just google "The Sims 3.apk"
Will these methods work for getting sims 3 and the office suite on a custom rom if I backup with titanium first? since they are part of my phone package I would hate to lose them.

Should work, you just need to find the correct .apk packages that launch the apps. I know quite a few people who have restored the think free office stuff that comes stock on the phone with no problems.

If I need to swap out my retail 10.1 can I load a Nandroid backup from the original one on it (after installing CWM)?
I think you can. Haven't tried it myself but I don't see why not.
I thought maybe there was some kind a special "key" for each one and since the nandroid is an image it might be a problem.
DONT DO IT! I had a nandroid of my Incredible on a SD CARD, phone broke so I loaded it onto a new one and BRICKED the new one!
If the hardware is the same then yes. I've shared nandroids between a bunch of nexus ones and nexus s with no problem.

Just want to say thanks to all the support here I rooted my evo it wasnt as hard as I thought it was going to be but it did take a lot of reading and a friend of mine at work telling me how easy it was. I was nervous but now I wish I would of done it sooner.!!!

Had a mishap Saturday when I partitoned my SD card bout had a heart attack! Got recovered from that now I'm not nervous to try anything on my EVO!
That's normal, to be scared, partition takes some time to do its thing.. The one thing I have learned, is to never look at the clock when flashing.. Here are some tips, use armon-ra, partition, and flash Team Nocturnal shooter E3D port. It's amazing. Go to teamnocturnal.com and follow all the steps. GruesomeWolf has done an amazing job.

How are you saying your not sure about apps, you know all the solutions to back-up apps.
I think you may be lazy.
I usually used Titanium backup, but have started using ROM Toolbox to backup my apps, I ended up purchasing the pro version also, I think its worth it.
EDIT:
POST 420!! I need to spark this now that I noticed.

Ah okay, sorry I was just being a ****, can't help comments. But I just read it wrong. Figured you wouldn't be one to start up some crazy drama in reply to my comment. lol
I like ROM Toolbox Pro for back-ups, pretty smooth and fast, worth it just for that but there is so many other things you can use it for with all the extra tweaks.
Tibu's pro with batch mode for restoring apps into new rom from previous nandroid backups.

I sent back a "new" phone that was clearly rooted and unlocked (tamper and s-off) - so did another fella at work, though his was only rooted. I'm wondering if they are just doing quick checks and resenting these out. Second phone is perfection though love the One

It's stores that do this, not HTC and it' s perfectly reasonable off course they do this because it's the turn side of the medal that allows you to return items within a certain time

This is true, and we know (at least fairly certainly) that 2.17 is not the official release of 4.2.2 for the One. According to the Football, not even 2.21 is the official.
