[Q] status bar - Epic 4G General

where would i look to mess with the status bar? ie...the icons "bluetooth, 3G, wifi signal strenght" etc....
I'm just looking for a point in the right direction.
thank you all

not an expert on this, but im going too guess at the framework don't quote me though.

framwork-res? :X my best guess

/system/framework/framework-res.apk

framework-res. sounds like a great place to start. thanks

exactly what i was looking for. ROCK ON

If you use 7zip to open, not extract, you dont have to resign the .apk...Im gonna make a killer ROM + theme when 2.2 comes out...Keep a close eye out,it will be one of the best, and Ill try to update as much as everyone else does.

USE THE SEARCH BUTTON. THERE ARE PLENTY OF TUTORIALS ON XDA. Just out of curiosity, did that even occur to you to search because I just don't understand people like you. And this question doesn't even belong here! If you are theming something then this belongs in the theme section.

I dont understand people like you. If you don't want to help someone then don't reply with stupid posts like this one.
OP, I'm glad you found what you were looking for.

You will need to look in twframework-res.apk as well as framework-res.apk
The tw one has the bluetooth, wifi icons, and notification backdrop images and the other has the status bar images.

MIUI 1.7.8 MMS confirmed working!

Andmer finally has MMS working on his rom with the apk listed here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15707813/miui/Mms.apk. Replace the apk in system/app with root explorer and exit permissions. This is confirmed by myself and many others who have sent numerous incoming and outgoing mms messages. I dont believe there is anymore functionality i would need out of this rom other than speed and sensor optimizations. Also, autobrightness doesnt seem to work at the moment.

Thanks for letting us know.
But next time, could you please post it in the MIUI development thread? Thanks.
Wow...I thought that the general section was for these types of threads.. first everyone complains that things are posted in the wrong section, now the wrong thread?? This community it's slowly going to **** with the people posting only negative comments.

I was saying he should have posted it in the MIUI thread we have in the Development forum since that's where it'd get more exposure. How that is bad to say is beyond me.

So, you want everyone to create a new thread everytime something changes in a ROM thread? That is what you want? I don't think so.

I'm in the same boat (not enough posts).
Very excited to see the MMS fix! I ran the MIUI ROM a few builds ago and decided it wasn't quite ready for my daily driver, but now it looks very promising. Can't wait to flash the new build on Friday.
JT and Andmer are some awesome devs and have done a great job on these ROMs!

audio works fine on my part after this fix. once again, replace apk in system/app... it WILL force close. reboot, edit permissions through root explorer, reboot again if necessary.
Anyway to get the apk installed without root explorer. Currently I am broke can't afford to purchase it

Super Manager works good and is Free. Still, if you can afford it down the road Root Explorer definitely works the best for me.

Someone answer [email protected]!

What can you do with a ROOTED sph-100? SPRINT Galaxy Tab

Theme guide?

I'm thinking of making a new guide to help people to learn how to theme. I would like to include screenshots with exact details of what path to the images and xml codes to edit. Also directions on how to decompile, compile apks and the dreaded .9 png's.
This will take me some time to put together so any themers out there who would like to help me please pm me and maybe we can split up the apk's and each take a few to work on.
Not only will this be great for people to learn but also a great referance for us themers by combining our knowledge into 1 place. Who knows maybe we will even learn something new to add to our themes.
Any help will be appreciated!

No not yet. It was just I thought I had. As I was learning to theme I was wishing there was something like this. There are some good guides but they're not as detailed as I would like. They just get your foot in the door. There are lots of things I've learned on my own. I would like to do this to cut out some of the trial and error.
I'm gonna start on it tonight but it will be a while before I'm done with it.

Dreams guide is good but I would like to add screen shots and more specifics as to what xmls change what and what images change what. In the sreenshots I'll draw an arrow or something like that and type the path to where the xml/png or whatever is.

Sounds like a really cool idea.
I for one have read the other guide, but anything visual always helps me to pick up on things. This would be awesome for those of us hoping for a start putting themes together.
I have had some ideas for themes that I think would really only suit me and perhaps 4.78 other people so it's not really something I want to ask themers to dedicate time to (can anyone say Schoolhouse Rocks theme?), when there are so many others with more adoption and demand.
I look forward to the completion.
As someone who has tried to take up trying to make themes and has failed miserably, I approve of this concept...
A detailed theme guide in addition to Dream's would have been great for when I was learning.

Na probably not like that lol. Most of the images in the framework pretty much explain themselves. For new themers it may look a little overwhelming. The status bar alone has a few hundred images if you consider all the battery images. things like that I wouldn't need to eplain every single battery % image lol. The right screnshot could show enough to explain almost 1/4 of the images. I can still remember the first time I decompliled an apk and was gonna try xml edits. Wow was I lost and didn't have a clue where to start or what did what. A simple referance like this could have saved me a lot of time and will probably make things much easier for new themers. Who knows maybe myself or some of our current themers will learn something too. Anyways I will get started on this soon
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I think Dreams guide did a good job of explaining xml but maybe could have used a few more examples. What the guide doesn't cover is adding images into a theme through the xml files. His explanation of .9.png's and how to edit them is about as good as I've read anywhere. Also, for those that don't know, theimpaler also has a guide in the general android themes area in the stickies.

I think it's fine the way it is
I wish it was by Developer
EVO Development split into 3 parts, sections for ROMs and kernels and guides/tweaks.
Then have it broken down by developer or by how recently it has been updated.

I think maybe a sticky listing AOSP vs. Sense would be cool.
Or maybe a new subforum called "Outdated development" that everything older than like 6 months could be moved to. Not complaining, just offering some thoughts.
That's one thing SDX does, is ad child categories per version, like listed above, ie. 2.1, 2.3, etc....

a ROMS subforum and a Kernel subforum would be nice. we dont need ports and betas subforums cuz that'll just be confusing, and we dont need a WIP subforum since everything is a WIP.
I've already tried talking to the mods of the Evo 4G forum and they didn't think it was a good idea. This was about a year ago though.
just read about what your looking for in the forums, it might be a pain in the ass but atleast you'll learn something. plus thats what the search button is for.

No, he's not a hater, he's telling you to follow the rules. Three threads is just obnoxious.
And considering that you didn't give information about what rom you're running, we don't know what themes are compatible. People don't answer if you don't give enough information. If you're running Sense, try the Evo Themes and Apps section. If you're on AOSP, there's a ton in the Android Themes section. You have to pick something that is compatible with your rom.

1) If you were really trying to "get good themes", you should've looked for them yourself. That's why there are sections filled with them.
2) Being "new to this" is not an excuse. There are plenty of people "new to this" that are perfectly capable of finding their own information and following the rules.
3) I have no issues with "noobs", and I don't mind answering questions for people who are just getting started with a rooted Evo.
My issues lie with those that feel they're entitled and everything should be handed to them, or that the rules don't apply to them.
4) They aren't my rules, they're the forum rules. You should've read them when you became a member. Here's a few that you need to keep in mind:
Rule #1: Search before posting.
Rule #3: Post only using a clear subject and message.
Rule #5: Post a message only once.
5) I'll try really hard to remember to not read your posts, as I know that they'll most likely be a request for someone else to search for you. Unfortunately I try to help people out while I'm browsing the forums, so I'm sure I'll come across your posts again. When you have a legitimate question because you couldn't be bothered to read about what you were doing, I'll be happy to keep the answer to myself.
6) Being more specific is a great idea. People can't help you if you don't give them information. And thanks for the compliment, I like to think that I'm smart and it's nice to hear it from someone else. My self-esteem thanks you.
