Been watching the threads and the last I heard, the speculation was that the OTA release of 2.3 was going to drop on Dec. 6 (Monday). Does anyone have any updated info and is this still the target date?
who said this?????
That could possibly be when the nexus one gets it, but the evo wont get it for a while.

That was just a 2 part security update that the N1 got. It wasnt 2.3. We wont see it till 2011
Nexus One might see Gingerbread by Christmas.
Odds are, we'll see the Gingerbread SDK, Nexus S, and official Gingerbread announcement sometime between the 6th and 20th.
naw id say late winter the evo will get it.

Maybe from a DEV but not officially. Sprint and HTC are not that fast.
They were the fastest carrier out there for the 2.2 update though.

That is true.
I'm not to hyped because I haven't herd of any big changes. Once they say the new Sense UI will be added in the update, then ill be hyped for it.
And why dies the N1 always get everything first??

N1 is an Android Developer Phone. Will always get updates first. HTC Dream (G1) was ADP1, HTC Ion given out at I/O was ADP2 (magic/mytouch3g), N1 is ADP3.
And I'm damn excited. Not as much as when cupcake/donut dropped and made the G1 actually usable, but excited none the less. More excited about the Nexus S tho...
Thanks for clarifying that, I've always wondered but never bothered to look into it cus it was just a stupid question that wasn't important. And maybe a little jealousy

so my upgrade is due in a couple months and im not sure what i wanna get
so my choices are
evo
epic
hero 2
as of now those are the only ones i see worth lookin at
anyone know of any other phones comin out?
i love my hero but i know ima want a faster phone eventually
so confused =\
I'd wait. I'm holding out for the Desire. I don't want a giant phone but I don't want a slow phone.
i heard the desire is goin to At&t though
The epic looks pretty epic. It seems to fix a bunch of issues with the evo.

because the processor is twice as fast..
I notice lag with the hero that the evo doesn't wince at.
dont' get me wrong I really like the hero.. but when multiple programs arent' killed off, I notice the lag the most.
the evo is much better than the hero.. even if you add some things to it.
now if you took the evo's processor and put it in hero.. i might be inclinded to
argue, that ti's debatable which is better.
I'm due for an upgrade in October and it's a toss up between the Evo and the Epic...

the legend isn't coming, it was a rumor. i too hope we get some different android phones by x-mas. im due for my upgrade nov 1st.
I'm wondering when/if Sprint is gonna pit out any more 3g phones. 4th is nice, but is not in my area. Although I 'm close enough to a 4g area that if I get an evo i'll get charged the extra $10 a month.

if it took about 7 months for the hero to become a "outdated" phone i take it the evo will be considered old by x-mas?
I dun think so. Eco is more high end and hero was very low end compared to other phones when it came out. N1 is still popular and even g1 is pretty popular

maybe not from sprint, but better devices are just around the corner, i mean look at the desire HD, the Evo just came out, and the second gen snapdragon core with a 3x better GPU is already here...not to mention the Galaxy phones, with their hummingbird cores and super amoleds...
Id say the EVO goes EOL by q2/q3 2011 but there will still be plenty of development going on here for at least few years. I been seeing more EVOs around town lately Im wondering if there's a Walmart selling them cheap.
My upgrade is in March also I hope something phenomenal is out by then.
Honestly the Evo might be outdated sooner. Look at the N1 hardware vs. Evo hardware. I mean the processor + ram, not the 'camera'. It will only be a few months until dual core processors and parallel processed apps come through and make the Evo seem slow. For now, its a beast of a king though.
I have a rooted Evo running 2.3, and I know a lot of you won't want to take time to help a fellow OP out, but. When will Sprint release an OTA 2.3 update for the HTC Evo 4G? Any ideas? Facts?
Youre input would be much appreciated, thnx.

Probably never...it's been suggested that manufacturers will be skipping 2.3 and just move to 2.4.
And Sprint won't be releasing anything anyway, this is all on HTC.
Manufacturers make the updates, send to carriers, carriers approve and and bloatware apps and release.
Yeah 2.4 sorry, so probably not then? Wow that's lame.

My guess would be within the next 45 days.
We know the Evo is getting Gingerbread [2.3/2.4] so it will come.
It makes sense that it would come before Spring.
Ohh he meant sprint doesn't release updates and that its up to htc, no I know that I just meant sprint actually getting ahold of the final product and sending it out to us. I thought he was saying regardless of htc having a 2.3/2.4 update sprint will just be all natzi about it and not give it to us after they have ruined it via, bloatware and other disgusting apps. Lol sry my bad, so hopefully in 45 days cause this has taken way too long.

it's gonna be awhile for them to implement the new sense into ginger. then sprint would have to test before releasing it. if anything at best we might see it by late spring. ive never seen any documentation that even stated htc was working on it for the evo. just like the evo2 is nothing but a myth at this point.

That would make sense (no pun intended ). After all the two new flagship products by Sprint are the Nexus S and EVO 3D so they'll want to push Gingerbread as a feature on those phones before they upgrade the Shift. I doubt they'll update the original EVO though. But in the mean time there's always CM7 and the other 3rd party Gingerbread ROMs. :3

I'm pretty sure the EVO 3D will become the new flagship product when its released this summer and over shadow the popularity of the original EVO. Even if the whole 3D thing doesn't take off its still a superior design and you can bet Sprint will be pushing that fact.

I'm pretty sure the Shift will get the next update or 2 as it came out recently. The EVO has been around a while though and the EVO 3D looks as if its been purposely designed to be the original EVO's successor. From a business standpoint it doesn't make sense to continue long-term support for a device that has been replaced. Its with that in mind that I say I doubt the EVO will get Gingerbread.

That doesn't mean anything, as soon as the next best thing comes out the old ones are dropped fast. Phone companies are notorious for this.(Verizon is the big one) The Samsung Moment was EOL'ed, but still got updates. The Droid was EOL'ed as well but Motorola and Verizon still put out a Froyo update for it, and even replaced Droids that had the camera issue with Froyo with a Droid 2. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised of the Evo was EOL'ed sometime after the 3D's release.
