Disabling back key on keyboard? - Droid 2 General

Is it possible to somehow disable the back key on the keyboard near the directional arrows? I can't stress how many times i've hit it on accident while typing an SMS , it's very frustrating.

You must've been reading my mind because I was gonna ask the same thing earlier but didn't. I've typed up long posts on my D2 only to accidentally hit the back button instead of the '?'. I don't need to totally disable it but double clicking instead would be nice.

YES!!! Always while hitting a "?" , forces me to type the whole thing over again . I would totally disable it ,I never use it , same with the "ok" button" but that's not in the way of anything at least.

Annoying Black Text-Completion: Solved!

How To Get Rid of The Black Autocomplete Box When Using Hardware Keyboard
To Hide the Autocomplete Box:
1. Type as Normal Until Words Start Appearing
2. Press Menu Button Twice
3. Autocomplete should hide itself
To Bring the Autcomplete Box Back:
1. Press the text field once
2. Should Pop Back up once you start typing
Super thanks to the1wingedangel for figuring it out!
Original Post:
But does anyone know how to get rid of the black word suggestions that pop up underneath the text entry box when your using the full keyboard on the G1? I for the life of my can not figure out what auto correct option to uncheck. The worst part is that its really unpredictable and might show up 1 out of 10 times i start typing with the keyboard.
Thanks guys : )
EDIT: ooops sorry. Over looked the word 'full'
Good question...that started showing up randomly for me a couple of days ago.
Double tapping the text box while your keyboard is open should get rid of it from showing up again.
Hmm good idea uber, will give it a shot next time the thing pops up and let you know how it works out.
That annoyed the hell out of me so much i switched roms. It would auto-replace words that I didn't want replaced.
Alright so I tried the double tap thing and no luck on that front. Didn't work out for me. Anyone else try that fix out?
And I know what you mean CBowley. It might just take a .lib deletion or something to fix tho. Heres to hoping that something comes up : )

Make sure you're doing it before you type anything in the box or it's locked to the ON position. I've done it a few times on my phone right here and it's working like clockwork. :-/
Ah I see so are you saying to double tap before I enter anything in the textbox ever? The problem is that it will show up completely random times like 1 in 10 or something. But I'll try double tapping before entering anything in the field and see if that keeps it at bay.
To turn off auto complete and auto correct:
Menu->settiings->Locale & Text->Touch Input (or whatever KB u r using)->Text Input
From here you can turn on/off all KB/typing features.

Thanks maubig, but those settings don't help change the autocompletion for the full keyboard. VK isn't giving me the problem.
Ok, I seem to have figured out how to kill that annoying text suggestion pop up when using the hardware keyboard. When it pops up, double click menu button. To re-activate it, touch the text box once, then start typing. Seems to work.

Excellent Angel! That worked perfect for me. Did the trick exactly like you said it would. Lets see if it works for other people too. Time to change thread title. Thanks : )
Thanks for this... I despised that stupid black suggestion box.

Volume/Search button on X10

Anyone actually know how to use it as a search button? I thought it would be long press or press the whole button down, or something like that, but can't figure it out.
Long press menu button (left button) is search on the X10.
Edit: I think the magnifying glass image means zoom

o'wow thanks!! I didn't know that it's been bugging me for months, and I always knew the keyboard was there, I just thought it was stupid having a popup keyboard, when the keyboard would always pop up when you could type lol

Oh wow! I thought that was a glitch! Thanks for the info

Sym on hardkeyboard

It drives me nuts there are no '<' '>' symbols on the hard keyboard. When you press alt+space it brings up a popup of extra symbols. Anybody have an idea of how we can make this popup editable? I'm pretty sure its not tied to your IME because it doesn't change when I install a new one or use swype, etc.
I'm not sure where to look on this anyone have an idea?

im pretty sure you are posting on the wrong section... but
hold alt+K for ], } and >
hold alt+J for [, { and <
hold alt+L for \
What about a "\"?
EDIT: Ah I see. The same works for "\" however only with the stock keyboard enabled. If you're using swift key, the key you're pressing just repeats.

I thought this was section for brainstorming mods... Where should I repost for better results? Also, alt+L just gives me ')' how do you cycle through them?
Edit: ok I see it is tied to the IME cause switching to a differnt one wouldn't let me cycle through like you explained, switching back to stock keyboard now I can. Guess that sums it up.

yeah I thought about making a little app to do that but hate to waste a quick key for that, although I do have an extra one right now. But I just put in a feature request with smart keyboard pro for them to make the symbols popup editable when pressing alt+space. Hopefully they will do it, shouldn't be to tough.
Just heard back from SmartKeyboard dev and he says the popup from pressing alt+space actually isn't tied to the IME and he can't override it. Still waiting back to hear if he know how to mod it. In the meantime back to the drawing board. Anyone know where this popup lives in ASOP?
I would like the quick keys to be the option. I never use them.
I would like a program or hack to remap the quick keys to something.
one would be switching WiFi on and off.
Perhaps I can find an app in the market that does just that with one click, and i can then set that quick key to that prog?
I'll have to look.
ps. Corylulu, your back down to number 4 again
i think i looked through every alt+key hold combo, but i could not find a ^ ?

Yeah, I know. Really I still consider it number 3 since the 2nd and 3rd is the same guy.

Random Things you may not know about your EPIC 4G...?

So it doesnt seem as though there is a thread like this for the Epic.
I figured this would be a good place to list a bunch of random things you've found while "tinkering" with you Epic 4G.
Example:
While in Camera mode, if you hit the power button it locks the camera. No buttons can be pushed until you "Unlock" the camera by pressing the power button once more. I figured this allows you to keep the camera app open without snapping random shots, so that when you are ready the camera app is readily available.
This same method works in the video player function...I found this out cus I have a 2 year old that loves to watch his cartoons on my phone. Well he always tends to touch the screen and it usually interrupts the vid (streaming)...so now I just lock the video player (push the power button while video is playing) and now he can touch it all he wants and it wont interrupt the vid!
What else do you guys/gals know about this AWESOME phone!!???

I just found out if you workout with your epic resting against your skin, you're risking it might get water damaged.
Here's something:
If you press down on the notifications tab at the top of your phone, and slide it to either the left or right, you can toggle the brightness (if it is set to MANUAL, and you can do this under the phone's settings).

SALTwater damage.
Learn to sweat distilled water. It's much safer for electronics
When on your contact list, swipe left to text or right to call that contact.

Seriously? Holy ****e dude, that was one of the key things the Epic had over the other guys.
Well, I knew this but some may not. On the physical keyboard, if you double press the "Shift" or "FN" keys, it does "Caps lock" and "Function Lock"

Confirmed. Wow I Just tried this and it's pretty amazing! +11111111
Here's another one that's semi-useful.
This will only work with the stock SWYPE keyboard. Now there are some complications usually when trying to copy/paste text with androids. If you have a keyboard, you can easily hold "shift" and swype across the text you are trying to copy.
Well with the SWYPE keyboard, if you do not want to open up the physical keyboard, you have the option of pressing the "i" button at the bottom (next to SYM) and if you hold that and swype on over to SYM and back to the "i" button, a menu with several different commands will show up. I'm not too familiar with how to use it, but I know it gives you the option to copy/paste, move up and down and select text fairly easy.

Funny sh|t... a shrink actually told me that she has teen clients who get in trouble, and lose their text priveledges, and are really going crazy, shrink suggests just making a voice call... the kid looks terrified, to call their 'best friend'...I really hope FFCs can help this... thats just sad. Its not even basement dwellers either, these are 'popular kids'.... I think Skynet has already won. Anyways, what phone are you getting next????

No need to swype back to the "i" button. Swyping from the "i" button over to the SYM button brings up the same options. Gives you arrow keys which are pretty awesome to use. Also, if you swype from the "i" button over to the "F" key, it brings up a nice keypad for you to input numbers/symbols.
Also, while on the topic of swyping, here are some other cool things:
If you want to capitalize a letter, you swype from that letter off of the swype keyboard entirely and then continue swyping. So if you wanted for some reason to type CaT, you would swype from the "c" key off of the keyboard entirely and then over to the "a" key and then over to the "t" key and then off the keyboard entirely again.
If you want to hit a double letter, like the two o's in Google, you swype from the "g" over to the "o" and swirl around on it for a second and then continue swyping the rest of the word. The swirling around doubles whatever key you are swirling over.

just swiping from the swype(or i/info depending on your version/rom/theme) key to sym alone will open that layout.
heres another swipe shortcut
start at the swype/info key then swipe diagonaly to the upper right and let go when your past the keyboard layout.... This will open the numerical keypad.
last one it got (that i can think of at the moment)
you can usually simulate a battery pull/force reset if your softlocked by holding cam+vol_up+power... saved me some hassle when i had a hard case on my epic many times when experimenting with roms/kernel/tweaks.
UPDATE:
muyoso has apparently tapped into my brain and beat me to it LOL... and sombish... yeah u can just swipe from the info to the f and get numerical keypad also

Touchscreen and Typing Bug

This just started happening today....when I start typing in any app (falcon pro, whatsapp, txt or email), after the 1st couple of letters it goes right back to the home screen and I have to go back to the app and continue typing.
Is this happening to anyone?
Its getting annoying real quickly.
I have rebooted and changed to the google keyboard and it still happens.
Help!!
Happens to me sometimes when i type fast......but i found out that its my fingers hitting the home button when i press space. Your phone is fine. You just need to get adjusted to the keyboard. You might want to download and use Googles keyboard instead of LGs, if you havent alrrady done so. Im more familiar with Googles layout....perhaps you are as well
Edit: sorry, didnt notice that you are using googles keyboard already
Try this....while you type, follow your fingers instead of looking at the screen....im 90% sure you are hitting the home button like i do
