Hello
I just got this phone
I thought that just by pluging it to my pc (windows 7) and selecting usb massive storage it would work, but it doesn't
Do I need a specific driver installed on window? If so.. Where do I find it?
I tried installing Kies, but that didn't help
Thank you in advance
Drivers are here
Brother you can download the drivers for windows from here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7238660&postcount=1
You have to mount SDCard in Notification area.
Mass Storage mode does not need special drivers.
Trying to install the drivers from the previous reply throws an error (I have windows 7 64 bits)
And.. activating usb from the notification area actually works for usb mass storage mode
Thank you!
Download and install the latest kies version from samsung site or just update the one in your PC online. If it still does not work, use the driver recovery option in kies.
Thanks a lot to everyone
I feel like a newbie here..
Even when the Kies installation throws an error, it detected my phone after several minutes.
How is this application useful? I can do most of the things (like transfer files) without it.
And even on the development forum they don't use it for upgrading!

Is anyone else having issues with the tmob vibrant usb debugging driver from the android SDK? They won't install because windows is saying they have no info concerning my hardware. Thanks in advance for any help.
Here is a link to the 64-bit drivers which worked for me:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
And here is a link to the 32-bit drivers, although I have not tested them:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
i can confirm that the 32 bit drivers are working...
Installed the 64 bit drivers on w7 ultimate. Still cant get to either of the phones storage.

Coming from a G1 (haven't received my Vibrant yet) there will be a notification to mount the SD Card so you can use them on your PC (when you connect the USB cable) and you wont need any drivers for it (acts like a flash drive to the PC). Is this not the case for the Vibrant?
The Debugging drivers should have nothing to do with the SD Storage on the phone and mounting it up to the computer.

I've run the 64-bit drivers at home and they worked famously.
Would it be possible for someone to post the 32-bit ones in a zip format somewhere? We block exe's here at work, and I'm getting 'The content is not supported on this phone.' when trying to download from the links above on my Vibrant...
The stock usb_drivers from the SDK just don't want to work for debug mode on it...blarg.
Thanks...

I'm having the same issue with the 32-bit ones. The .exe installs fine, but after plugging in my phone, I get that error. Clicking on the balloon shows an 'Unknown Device'. Double-clicking on 'Unknown Device' then clicking on 'Driver' then 'Driver Details' gives this: No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device
EDIT: Nvm. Bad USB port. Had a few of them stop working a few months back. Guess I forgot. Up and running now!
Spot on! 32-bit is working fine for me. Appreciate it.
cant get droidexplorer to work any ideas?
works on windows 7 ultimate x64
thanks
As the topic states, I can't get the drivers installed for my XOOM to be properly recognized by my PC so I can copy to/from. When I plug it in my PC I get a popup bubble on my system (Win 7 64 bit) that says unrecognized device. In device manager it's listed as Unknown Device. I've tried with debugging enabled and disabled just to see, same issue.
I've used USBDView to view the currently installed USB devices and removed as much as I could, installed the latest drivers and no matter what same thing happens.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
**EDIT**
It would seem that I have 2 bad USB ports. Once I tried another port, TADA, my XOOM was happy.
Mods, if you want you can even delete this.
Hello,
recently I bought an i5800 (android 2.1-update 1), because I wanted to have rooted phone, I read informations about this on couple sites.
I decided to use z4root.
Now when I connecting my phon to the PC kies shows only Phone+Contacts.
Doesent show any data on the SD, and also doesn't show any informations about version of firmware...
How can I fix this?
Best Regards
v
PS: I also installed Link2SD, AppsToSD and Titanium Backup
update to latest version of kies and also un-install the USB drivers from device manager -> disconnect phone and connect it to other USB port open kies and the driver should install again hope this can fix your problem
Nope, that doesn't work either
Kies updated to 2.0.0.11032_12...
On the phone USB Debug mode disabled, USB Options-> ~Ask after connection.
Kies still does not sees properly the phone, and phone does not shows the window with options Kies,~media player, ~mass storage.....
I had exactly the same (infuriating) problem.
I fixed mine by uninstalling Kies, uninstalling the USB drivers then installing java (I know this shouldn't make a difference, but it seemed to).
I was using Windows 7 64 bit.
I found the Samsung_USB_drivers_for_mobile_phones.exe file & saved this to my desktop (before uninstalling).
I think Kies saves it to program files x86/samsung/kies/usb drivers/
Then after uninstall of everything, then installing java,
right click on the driver and run as an administrator.
When it asks where to install it, place it in the /program files/samsung/kies/usb drivers/ folder (not the x86 version, install it to the normal one).
Then find the Kies install file and right click that & install as an administrator to, but let Kies install this to the x86 program files location (default).
Then when it's completely installed (skip finding media, you can do that later), turn off the phone, then connect it to the USB cable.
Then turn the phone ON and let the drivers install as normal.
Just let it do it's thing and after a while, after all installations are complete, Kies will show your phone & will let you see all the folders, not just the contacts list & will show you the firmware version and everything.
Hope this helps.
I made sure I 'ran as administrator' on both install files.
Not sure which bit helped, but it worked for me (and I've tried everything, believe me)
*EDIT*
google "Why does Samsung Kies not detect my Samsung mobile phone" for the same info
**EDIT** x2
on looking in my /progam files x86/samsung/kis/usb drivers folder, it sems that Kies has reapplied the driver there & removed it from the 64 bit program files path. Ether way, one of the above steps fixed it, perhaps it's just that I ran everything ad an admin, who knows ?
Installation of java wouldn't make any difference, unless the installer was java based. The admin rights might have done the trick.

Actually, ignore my last post.
Kies now cannot see my Galaxy Apollo anymore, (even though every other program on my PC can !! including WMP12 !!)
I'm sick of this.
What's so hard about detecting a connected device ? !!
Sorry for the rant, but I'm getting really annoyed by this piece of software (Grrr !)
Yeah, I do whay you write, it's the same on my pc... now everything is .. not working
I think it's not only a Kies problem+USB drivers but also system on the phon has been changed thats why my phone is not properly working with kies.
Of course, still when I trying to connect my phone to pc I don't see on my phone screen options window that was before z4root/app2sd/link2sd - I mean Kies, media, storage
I see that there is a problem with a part of the Kies - DeviceManager is crashing after phone connecting..
Well now, the only way I can connect, is by (control panel) > uninstall programs > uninstall SAMSUNG USB drivers.
(while the phone is NOT connected).
Then launch Kies.
Then select the menu (tools > install driver)
Then wait while it installs the drivers (again !!)
After waiting for about a minute, I reconnect my GT-I5800 to my PC via the (not so universal) USB cable.
I then wait till all the (your device has been installed) messages stop.
Then I have normal Kies control of my Apollo.
But, if I disconnect it, then try to reconnect it, I get no joy.
It will sit at "connecting" forever.
The only way I can reconnect, is to rinse & repeat.
(I.E. uninstall the drivers & 'GOTO 10', which is really starting to boil my p!ss as I have no idea why this is happening).
Every single piece of poo software on my PC can see my phone, except Kies.
Does anyone have any ideas as it'd driving me mad !! :`(
try this
uninstall kies and all samsung drivers from ur pc
goto download mode (does not need root & it's safe)-(do not open odin)
a list of 3-5 drivers will get installed
then unplug the device, remove and re-insert the battery
install kies then connect ur phone by the usual way
I have the same problem with my phone. An other i5800 can connect successfully with my laptop, KIES and the same cable, but my phone doesn't.
It works...
what I've done....
Back to factory settings in the phone... so just great, the best corrective actions that I ever had :/
I want my HTC Uni back...
*edit*
Kies works 100% ok eaven now sees the update to froyo
so problem was changes that was made by one of the additional software on the phone
Thread can b closed
I also had this problem from long time. I found the reason was the Kies (both 1.5xx and 2.XX) versions are unable to use the default USB driver thats come along with Windows OS.
So the best solution is uninstall the USB driver from Windows device manager and after that install the USB driver from Kies. Then definitely your phone will be recoginized with Kies.
Note: After Uninstalling USB driver and before installing the USB driver from Kies sometimes windows itself tries to install the default USB driver so disable it when its promted.
Hope this helps....

Install latest kies (clean install). Before connecting the phone to usb remove the SD card and start in kies. The phone would be detected and drivers would be installed. Disconnect, reinsert SD card and connect again. Problem will be solved. Worked for me.
Hi all,
Yesterday I stayed till 3 AM trying to flash the new firmware to my 9100, but KIES was so unstable that I decided to re-install.
We all know if we simply install Kies under XP, there is an issue with an Android MTP driver failing to install. No matter what you do, it won't install. This is the driver that Kies requires to work in order to sync contents and flash new firmwares.
After trying different options and settings, the solution is quite simple. Follow the steps (XP tested):
1.- Remove Kies entirely.
2.- Remove Samsung USB Drivers
3.- Reboot.
4.- Install latests .NET framework.
5.- Download and install latest Windows Media Player (ver 11 for XP). This is the key, since it installs a User mode driver framework used by Kies.
6.- Reboot
7.- Download and install latest Kies. Reboot.
6.- Plug in your phone. It will detect everything.
8.- Start Kies.
This should make it.
Hope it helps!
Cherni.
I had Rooted and Custom ROM-ed with AOSP GingerMOD.
Then when connected to PC via cable, W7 failed to install MTP driver.
Heres what worked.
Turn off USB Debugging on the phone. Reconnect via USB storage mode.
Voila!
Am not using Samsung Kies. so dont know whether it will work with the same trick.

He said version 11 for xp lol.
BTW, for those of you with windows 7 enterprise N - The "N" means no multimedia drivers, so media player would not be enough.
You need to download some 300+MB package which I don't remember the name. and then media player.
I meant W7!
Well I just tried this and it didn't work, am losing hope here...I already tried everything and nothing works

All this started when I updated from version 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 through KIES
Hi, were you able to solve? I'm stuck at the same point, tried almost everything and i'm still getting the MFT driver error with my Galaxy S 2.
OS is WinXP 32bit, I tried before with Kies version 2.0.3.11082_152_2, then yesterday with 2.0.3.11082_152_4, no luck.
I tried the suggested Windows Media Player 11 procedure, i did the whole process as written in the 1st post (installed .net 4, then WMP11, then reboot, then Kies, then reboot again) and it didn't worked.
Before that i tried with USB debugging mode, i tried following what Kies says (connect device, got the error, disconnect the device then go to "tool -> the crap that should be supposed to repair drivers but that truly does nothing", then reconnect the device just to get the error again), I tried a tool i found somewhere on the internet while reading HUNDREDS of pages of users having the same error (Samsung engineers, that means that you really SUCK!) "FileSearcherforKiesFix" to find files with long extension on my SD, deleted some files (was only some thumbnails), NOPE, still getting the same F****n' error
So, were you able to solve in some way this error? How?
Thank you for your help, and sorry for my english (i'm Italian).
and if that doesn't work...try a different USB port on your computer. I have found that only one of the 4 on my t410 thinkpad plays nicely with the samsung usb drivers...
having said that, i have sworn off kies entirely and will only use Odin,
I'm on the Galaxy SII and was having similar problems. Went to the samsung website, DLed the USB driver, then to get the MTP to work: Turn off Debugging, go into "wireless and network", then into USB Utilities, unplug usb, click connect to PC, then plugged it back in, and bingo, we have a winner.
I didn't read the entire thread to see if this method was already posted, to f'ing tired!
Hopes this helps.
edit: looks like Kragusk did a similar (exactly the same?) install. So yeah, what he said....
the fix
This fix for windows XP was discovered by a chap named Dennis.
The problem is caused by some drivers from WMP11 failing to install correctly.
(WMP11 contains the MTP drivers, nothing to do with Samsung or USB drivers)
You just need to re/install them
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfrd.sys xxx_wudfrd.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfpf.sys xxx_wudfpf.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfhost.exe xxx_wudfhost.exe
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfsvc.dll xxx_wudfsvc.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfx.dll xxx_wudfx.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfplatform.dll xxx_wudfplatform.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfcoinstaller.dll xxx_wudfcoinstaller.dll
Then run this file (umdf.exe) found inside the windows media player 11 install
(Hint: download then open in winrar to find the file)
Sorry as a new person I can't post a hotlink to a file.

This not only cures Kies, but almost all other Media Player connection problems as well!

Go to Samsung Kies software, on top left of the window, click the menu > Driver recovery.
Let it reinstall drivers
After driver installation finished, go to your phone, Settings> Application > Development, tick USB debugging mode.
Under USB debugging mode connect your phone to the PC with USB.
It installs correctly!
Disconnect from PC
Untick USB debugging mode
Connect again
and it works!

Anyone has a clue?
thank you v m~
It worked for me.
Thanks a lot.
Hello, I recently rooted and installed recovery on my Note 3. All was going well until I couldn't mount my phone using MTP.
I believe this issue started when I tried to mount my phone in recovery mode, and it installed those drivers.
I now get an error message saying
"Attention! Unable to find software on your PC that can recognise your device. Service pack 3, Windows Media Player, version 10 or higher, for windows XP or Android File Transfer for Mac OS must be installed.
You can download and install PC Kies from (Kies download website) in order to sync data with your device, back up data, and upgrade your device (Windows and Mac OS are supported)."
I've tried everything I could find on google -- uninstalling/reinstalling drivers on device manager, uninstalling/re-installing the Kies program(I've never used Kies before as I never needed it for file transfer ... just installed hoping it would fix), re-rooting and re-installing CWM as well as the custom ROMS..I've deleted the UpperFilters from my registry etc etc, nothing seems to work! It even gets the same error on my laptop now!
The drivers I installed in the recovery mode are:
SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface
USB Mass Storage Device
SAMSUNG File-Stor Gadget USB Device
Same thing happens even after I uninstalled those drivers ... When mounted in recovery, it appears as my CD drive ( F: ) ..
I shouldn't have tried mounting in recovery ):
