Should I buy this phone ? - Wildfire General

Debating between the Wildfire & LG GT540.
Does the low res and no GPU affect this phone ?
Does it support apps ? ( angry birds ? )
Both my son & daughter want a new phone..I need to decide !!
Thanks

I got this phone for my gf and it's been nothing but trouble, dodgy power on with clockworkmod (might be fixed now I don't know) and the receiver speaker has just failed so only works on speakerphone. Oh and it's seriously laggy and the resolution is just poor for a modern phone IMHO.
For a cheap DECENT android phone check out the Orange San Francisco. Ordered one for my gf as a replacement and it's awesome! OLED screen, superior resolution, runs angry birds just fine on the MCR rom (not tried on stock, de-bloatwaring is a must) and can be unlocked for free via a post in the modaco zte blade forum.
And the best bit? It's £110 (Inc £10 compulsory credit).

Or the LG Optimus one P500 is also a alternative.
The ideea is the that the resolution is bad, but it`s not all that bad. If you like to play games, than avoid the phone. Get another one. If you use it for office, snap a photo or two, listen to music and play a simple game, then it`s a nice phone.
Why is the Wildfire more expensive than other phones? Because of the great touchscreen, the quality of the case (aluminum insertions), and the fact that HTC is now a world known brand. (if you told anyone a couple of years ago that you got a HTC phone, they would have said that you have bought a cheap-ass chinese crap-phone). Kinda like all big brands (Sony, Mercedes, whatever) you pay for the brand.

HTC Snap or what?

So, I've had Nokia 6233 (yes, I know its old) for a year and a half now and I've been thinking of buying a new cellphone. First I was thinking of some cheap touchscreen such as Samsung S5230, but when my friend bought it, I noticed that it's laggy as hell. Now, I've been looking for "cheap" QWERTY-phone, and few days ago I spotted this HTC Snap.
I think Snap is one of the coolest looking phones in the market atm. Almost every single phone that has Microsoft Mobile OS is touchscreen so I was wondering that how does a Microsoft Mobile 6.1/5 work in not-touchscreen phone?
Another alternative would be Nokia E63, but I have red that it's too much like a "business phone" for a normal user, like me. I've been watching reviews again and again, but still can't decide that should I buy new phone now or later.
Also another thing that I've been thinking is the amount of colors in the screen of Snap (only 65.000 or so..). Do you think its a minus for it and do you recognize it in the use? My old nokia has more that 4x more colors, so I think thats a big failure from HTC (if it is noticeably problem).
Please, answer to these questions, and HTC Snap users tell me: do you like that phone? As I said, atleast it looks awesome and the Microsoft Mobile OS is a big plus to me after Nokia!!
I have a T-Mobile Dash 3G with HTC Inner Circle installed, so it's basically a Snap. I can honestly say that it's the best smartphone I've ever used. I actually had the choice to keep either the Snap or a Touch Pro2, and I chose the Snap over the Touch Pro2. I love it that much.
The software has some issues if you're using the stock ROM (at least with T-Mobile), but getting past the issues isn't hard at all. It's an amazing phone.
Forget about the colors, on a screen that size, you just will not notice the difference.
If you think that going from Nokia to WinMo is a good thing, you have to be a power user.
I bought this phone for a professional use (e-mailing, GPS navigation, contact sync, agenda). If I had chose a phone for leisure (good camera, tons of funny apps, games, etc), I would have bought a touchscreen android phone, which is way more convenient for surfing and watching vids.

[Q] "Limitations" in HTC ARIA ?

Hello Everyone
I am planing to to buy HTC Aria this weekend
but someone told me that i will face limitations in it
like some apps and games will not work
and runs some apps and games slowly
have you faced this problem ? is that true ?
and
do it have anther problems ?
do you advice me to take it ?
please answer my questions quickly
and thank you
The only limitations you will be facing with it are as follows:
You will never have Flash. Not Adobe's flash 10.1 anyway.
You might not be able to put Android 3.0 on it. That is purely speculative at this point, but it is rumored to require a 1ghz processor.
I've never had an issue with responsiveness or apps not working.
Why would you buy the HTC aria for 230 dollars when the Samsung captivate is available for 200?
Even at 130 after rebate the captivate still blows the doors off the aria in every way

I can second this. I have the captivate, my brother has the Aria. Sense is a better UI in my opinion, and the Aria feels like a more solid phone (maybe because its smaller?).
That said, I wouldnt trade my captivate for the aria. I like the much larger screen and the faster cpu/gpu. I also don't like the HTC keyboard (yes i know it can be changed).
By the same token, my brother likes certain things about my phone, but he wouldn't trade his phone for mine.
I also like the fact that the Aria has an optical trackball.

*You will not be able to run any 3d game from Gameloft
*Most 3d intensive games will run slow/choppy or not run at all
*Google earth is not available for the Aria
If you like to play games on your phone (real games) you will be limited by Aria's Slow GPU and old ARMv6 CPU
You have fastboot with the Aria, and optical trackpad. I wish my captivate had fastboot. If you don't have to have the fastest thing out there than get a Aria. Also the Samsung UI software is total pile of crap.

The Galaxy phones are OK but they also have their issues. The blue tinted screen is unacceptable and looks like ****, according to anandtech the GPS works like **** on these phones also. Touchwiz is absolute garbage by the way.

BS. How's your GPS working OOB?
The captivate is better if you want a better multimedia device, otherwise, for day to day use the Aria is a better, more practical phone.
It's about requirements, preferences, and choice, and the comparisons making such generalized "better" statements are absolutely ridiculous.

My Aria cost me $50 from Amazon. Incredible (pun) bang for the buck! That was the clincher for me and I am so glad I did not buy a brick of a phone. Pretty soon they will put a phone in the iPad and make so many people happy. It will be like the 60's all over again. You can walk around with it propped on your shoulder like a boom box.
the samsung feels like a pos compared to the aria. I feel in my hands and if I was to drop it, the aria would hold up 1000000000000000 x better than the samsung. that's my only complaint about the samsung.
I have put my captivate through some brutal beatings, and even threw it out of my car while driving 45 mph ( it did land in grass too ) it seems to be a very rugged phone.

Was going to add this myself, I wouldn't pay 230$ for either of the two phones when amazon is offering both of them for significantly less! (also paid 50$ for mine) I'd have to agree with Attn1 here, the Captivate is a better multimedia device but day to day use I wouldn't even think about trading in my Aria. Neither of them are completely dominant, it all depends on what you want/need.
I also have to disagree with the statement of not being able to play "real" games. If graphics were the only factor in quality of game, games wouldn't be anywhere near the complexity they are today, they would just look good. Further, I haven't found a game I couldn't play on it yet, although I don't doubt it would look much nicer and run smoother on a Captivate.
I also have to agree with the comments of the Captivate feeling "cheaper" by comparison. I've owned several Samsung phones over the years and in my honest opinion HTC simply puts together a better phone.

that is because when you own an Aria you are limited by the games on the market that are only compatible with the Aria...
You can not run :
Real Soccer 2010
Asphalt 5
Need For Speed Shift
Assassin's Creed™ - Altaïr's Chronicles
Let's Golf!
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X
and no Full Flash Support.
I have the Aria and the Vibrant and I like them both, the Aria is the bes 'Mid-Range' phone available... and the Vibrant is the best Multimedia Phone available... it all depends on how much you want from your phone... I only paid $50.00 on amazon for the Vibrant and I'm getting a lot from it.
I can Play Mkv Movies... without conversion... something that I can not do on the Aria due to its GPU. I can throw any app or game I want on the Vibrant without asking my self.."will it run smooth"?
If you can get either phone for the same price... Vibrant is a better choice spec wise. If you only see movies on your phone occasionally and your definition of an action game is 'Papi jump' the Aria will do the job. and the Aria's speaker is crap.
And about the comment : "the aria would hold up 1000000000000000 x better than the samsung"
I have to say.. I broke my Arias's glass just a week after I got it, dropped from less than 2 feet... and the glass was shattered. So far the Vibrant have held pretty good and more than a couple of drops...
Some days I use the Aria, some days I use the Vibrant... but If I had to choose.... I'll stay with the phone with NO limitations...
I own both the Aria and the Samsung Captivate.
Yes my captivate blows through games, like FF7. Yes the captivate tends to run cool, it is not a big issue. I think most of prefer warm in our color schemes because of incandescent light bulbs. The tint is not as bad as you hear, and there are community projects that will balance it out to run hotter, more white.
As far as games on android go, there aren't any decent games. Unless you like playing old snes and playstation games.
I really miss the quality of HTC, the form factor, and the aesthetic design. Samsung knows how to make some mean silicone chips, but they make garbage cases. I hate the faux fiber panel and the overall cheap and highly breakable feel to the device.
I you want an Android smart phone to organize your life, and access the internet on the go, get the Aria, if you are into movies, games, etc, wait until the market matures in your area.
I think people aren't looking at a few things.
A. if your paying full price.. you can prob get a like new/new aria (not from retailers mind you) for probably right in the 200$ mark.. the phone itself retails for like 350$ totall..
Captivate off contract is probably gunna be at least 400$.
I would love an android phone that can "do anything" like captivate.. but, if I can afford 200$ and get an aria.. I'm gunna do it instead of waiting till feb..
B. While I do want to see more games put on these phones.. its not all about 3d gaming here.. I can't believe I'm saying this (huge gamer.. been playing 20 years now).. These phone's are luxury devices.. but, I never thought of them as a psp or nintendo ds :/.. Yes.. nice games are great.. but, call me old fashioned.. I still appreciate just being able to do what *I* want with the phone.. Set what background/ringtone I want.. In terms of android.. arrange icons/widgets how I want..
I do want gaming market to advance on phone's.. but, I think we also need to realize it is a phone..
C. these are two different phones altogether.. they both deserve respect. They both from what I hear have great battery life.. However, the aria is really more for "power usage" in a 'this is a mobile computing device' sense.. where the captivate is designed by nature to be an all out power house..
If I had an upgrade and I was looking at spending a small amount more for a captivate.. I would jump on it, in a heart beat. Without a contract? I will probably pay 200$ for a mint condition aria.. then save the upgrade in feb until dual core comes out

Wildfire vs. P500 vs X8

The title says it all
Which should I choose?
I prefer the wildfire but some people say the p500 is better :/
I actually hate my wildfire, waste of money imo.
*Sent from XDA on my Wildfire*
So which one do you think I should go for?
Wildfire is nice looking small phone.
But:
-screen with 320X240 pixels is really ugly (you can see pixels)
-there is no GPU, so you can't play games
-CPU is to slow for movies, you can't play movies
jee. why do you even ask this
wildfire < x8 < optimus one
when u buy a htc, you pay for the name, not quality. optimus one is beter than wildfire in... well pretty much everything.

When you say quality, what do you mean? Built quality? Wildfire`s build quality is excellent. Customer support? Hell some Sony android phones are still on 1.6.
Personally, I would go for the P500 but, it has only a 3mpx camera with no flash (important for me), cheap plastic case (solid, but cheap) and also I heard bad things about LG phones.
Yeah, it has a HVGA screen, 600MHZ processor and Divx certification, but personally, I did not feel the need to watch movies or videos on my phone (Wildfire or any other phone I`ve ever had).
Like I said, now I think the Wildfire is a great phone, but if the P500 had been available at the time I bought the HTC, I probably would have gone for the LG (although I`m not that sure).
1. yes you can play games, but not all as some will run slowly.
2. wtf play movies slowly? i can play movies fine, i was watching episodes of futurama without any lag or anything for example.
Thanks for the suggestions guys
The only thing stopping me from getting the p500 is that some users report high cpu consumption on touching the screen?
Is this true? Is there a fix for it?
p500 cant be even compared with low end phones like wildfire and x8

plz answer me

hello . first i greeting the stuff of xda they realy make great efforts
i need help i will buy this phone and need information about it
is it good
i know it realy small & i love it design but is it gaming well?
what about speed?
overclocking ?
and the final this phone or wildfire s?
thank u
think twice
If you want a gaming phone. This is not a phone for you! Starting with hardware then with software the Moto FlipOut is a low end Android device in my opinion. My Girlfriend bought it on Christmas and she ended up using my iPhone4(that got replaced with a MT4G) If you are looking for a good android phone for gaming look for one that has at least 1Ghz processor and a GPU chip Like Samsung Galaxy S line or HTC latest devices. Also if you can afford a dual core phone go for it!
edit: If you really need to choose one of these two phones (Flipout or Wildfire S) I'd say go with the HTC .
i wouldn't say that Flipout is such a low end.. it has 512MB RAM and processor with frequency scalable up to 1,2GHz (1GHz stable) .. so actually it's not that bad. however.. games are practically unplayable due to it's display size and resolution. the display is simply too small for that. if you wanna play games, buy something with 4,3" display, dual-core, tegra-based at best
I haven't had any other android phone, so I can't compare, but first thing I want to say is that this phone sucks. Stuck at 2.1, several bugs in the ROM, crashes from time to time, and the battery for me lasts ~24 hours on moderate use. On heavy use it stops working just when you need it (for example, you used a tracker to map where you're going in a foreign city, and now you want to go back to your car)
But, you get use to these. So sometimes, when you try to call 911, your phone crashes in the middle (happened to me...), or when you hang up a call. And the accelerometer is somehow twisted so very few of the balancing games work.
But, I don't agree with not being able to play. Things like angry birds or moon chaser work very nicely. As does the NES emulator. So, slow not too hectic games work very nicely.
And the form factor is amazing. It is really nice to have the phone in your pocket, and to have to look for it, because you can't tell in which pocket it is.
That's why I still have it - I really love it. I don't see any other phone that will be as convenient.
I bet you're wish you hadn't asked
thank u all friends but at all i bought it i didnt have money for glaxsy -s
but my friends i see post in this section say that they able to play angry bird & Guerrilla Bob & novo this games is high

why this huge price-cut?

this is starting to get absurd.
At first i thought that it was just Expansys who went crazy and lowered the price THAT much, i figured they made a mistake ordering hundreds of the device and couldn't sell them so had to resort to drop to ridiculous prices or whatever the heck can happen when an (non)internet shop make mistakes.
But now it's like 3-4 other internet shops are going for more or less that price, never heard before of a 500 euro smartphone sold by so many shops at less than half price like this.
Nothing just happen without a reason, there's always at last 1 reason why this phone got his price slashed like this, and thinking about it, ok it didn't sold THAT much but it had some kind of a cult following... and being honest, this handset has practically the same hardware as the Arc, beside the exmor-whatever camera, but not only that, just check at whatever other android phone of more or less 200 euros, the Play clearly is way, way better than them...
Again, i wonder what's the meaning behind this insane price cut.
I'm currently an X10 user and i love it, but being a huge retro-gaming geek, i'm selling it for 180 euros (and friends of mine says it's cheap) and bought a 240 euro Xperia play waiting for it to arrive (damned expansys delayed shipping to next week).
Hope i did the right thing and this SEXplay will not crumble and turn into dust in the first 5 days of usage or sad things like that.
i don't know but i bought my phone May this year for 5000HKD (around 650USD) and now that it is released in my country they sell it for around 450USD at Sony Ericsson concept shops. i don't know the reason for the very low price but heck isn't that great?
i still go for the reason that it didn't sell well that's why they're selling it for a very low price.. besides, they need consumers to buy it fast because of the imminent release of the PlayStation Suite which will further increase their sales..
Well, most of the good games are just boring Gameloft ports.
The SexPlay is a great phone, with basically zero exclusive software support for it.
If you buy this phone for anything else other than emulation, you are basically wasting your time imho.

I didnt buy it for anything else other than emulation whilst being bored at work. (I use it as my main phone too ofc).
The free EA games are boring imo. As are most Gameloft games. The only other game i REALLY enjoy is the online texas poker.
The DPad is really nice to use whilst browsing the internet. The analog joysticks are not for me, i personally dont enjoy using them.
The reason why im mostly disapointed with the SexPlay is because there is no MAME emulator that has working save states. Without save states, mame is useless to me at work.
So yea, i have had a good time with the SexPlay, but im now of the opinion that i wont be buying another game phone. Especially not now that i have just bought a brand new laptop and can play proper mame at work on a nice big 17.5 inch screen with my xbox control pad.
I do wish the SexPlay continued success though, its just that it has outlived my pocket and i am eagerly awaiting my next phone upgrade. Glad that i only got an 18 month contract because it runs out in less than a year now.
Ive also had lots of prpoblems with my SexPlay -
1) Poor signal
2) No data signal
3) Volume button fell out
4) Back button doesnt work properly
5) Right shoulder button gone loose
6) Touchscreen goes dowhaddle whack crazy at times
7) Accelerometer doesnt work properly, steers to the left all the time
8) Compass doesnt work properly
And above all........I found out here in Britain we have a network called GiffGaff that runs off the O2 network, and for £10 / month on a PAYG deal you get TRULY unlimited data at "H" speeds.
I bought this simcard to see how it performs, and lets just say i have used close to 50gig this month leaving torrents downloading on my phone...............(wished id never even bought a contract, GiffGaff prices are probably the best in the World).
For me, poor signal and dead signal were cured in 2.3.4 update.
I agree with you xplay is limited, but it was my first smartphone and my expectations were dead low.

Apparently there is going to be a Playstation store available for all ps certified devices. And they decided to drop the price so they could make a killing on apps i'm guessing

You mean until the Playstation Suite launches. I'm quite excited about how that's going to change things. Main reason I decided to go for the XPlay. That and the promise of more PS1 and possibly PSP titles on the way. But the future is looking good for the Xplay if the PS Suite does what Sony says it will.
There's also plenty of good non-gameloft games on the market that have been optimised for the XPlay already.
Am I the only one who likes Xperia PLAY for Xperia PLAY games?
I love my classics, and like to be a nostalgia drunken at times... but for the most part, playing something that actually takes advantage of the hardware (especially that big, beautiful 854x480 screen) is much more appealing than some game I've already played that will either be dis-proportioned, or letterboxed.
i dont know but i dont enjoy emulation at all..

I am thinking of getting this as an early upgrade for one of my lines.
If it comes with 2.3.4 installed allready, will I be able to root it?
I just got a DInc II and rooted it the Friday before the 2.3.4 update was forcefeeding around.
LUCKY.
This looks like a great emulator unit.
I hope this price sticks....
These price cuts make me a bit sad like.
I mean, I knew it would come...but it is kinda soon.
I paid £280 for my XPlay, now I can get it for between £180-£200 from very reputable dealers.
Sad.
That being said...yeah, the phone isn't perfect but I do love it.
I like the occasional 'new' game but most are really shallow (looking at you GameLoft), so I stick with what I got the phone for...the thousands of game available emulated.
Emulation has always been and always be my favourite thing, that's why this phone is perfect for me despite the obvious flaws.
agree with the bulk of you.
The only reason i'm getting this phone is because of emulation.
Hell i never ever even took a look at the gameloft or any other android game out there... i think i just played angry birds twice in my life.
I currently have an X10 and i absolutely love it, don't give a crap about dual core or stuff like that, my x10 goes fast and does everything i need it for; except for one thing, that is emulation.
I'd be the happiest person alive to have everything i had with my X10 plus a solid pad and the chance to pop it up any time and delight myself with some good-ol' super mario world
Right now there's another thing that concernes me about the play, dsswoosh was talking about buttons blowing in pieces or malfunctioning... that would suck. One thing i loved about my X10 are the marvelous hardware buttons (hate the softouch ones), that after almost a year of abuse they still work like new..

That this phone's strength lies in how well it can emulate anything below Dreamcast is undeniable. I bought it for 400 euro five months ago, now I could buy it for 220 or so... But the loads and loads of games that I've been able to revive and enjoy, and the fun of tinkering around with a new piece of kit (I've been lucky to have been helpful for some devs here), are just priceless.

1) The volume button fell out, but i fixed it with a dab of solvent cement. Other people have reported it falling out aswell.
2) The back button has a fault where when you press it, sometimes it activates, 2 or 3 or even 4 times. This can be highly annoying. If you have 4 tabs opened in a browser and it activates 4 times, they all shut down and the browser exits
The O button can be used as back, so its not a gamebreaker, jut annoying.
3) My right shoulder button has lost springiness and sags a bit. Again, not a gamebreaker, just annoying.
The actual game buttons all work great and are solid after months of use.

Yup! I hardly play any retro games on my Play, too busy with modern xperia play optimized games!
For me, its all about emulation. Look at the options before the play : wiz gp2x / canoo : the linex devices that had piecemeal developer support and were a touch complicated to configure/set up. OpenPandora, great if you can wait 1.5 years for delivery, but a bit bulky. <-- I actually received mine about 1 week before the play arrived, now it sits collection dust as I have everything running better on the Xplay.
i traded in my xperia neo for a play,2months ago, been happy so far with the device although i must also admit that the signal handover is total crap..if it goes from 3g to edge it does have 2 seconds of "no service",when you are in a call, the call is dropped..other devices have a much smoother handover, but that was the same with xperia neo..my old iPhone 3g never dropped the signal when it changed the frequencies..
and the price cut i think its just because the play is a niche product, there are far too many people that would love to have a xperia play but consider themself "too old" or too "serious" to carry around a phone with handheld controls( or even the girlfriend says:lol what do you want with this toyphone.-) i hope that this playstation suite has something to offer because all this gameloft clone games and the rest, meh, nothing for me personally with two exceptions:hyperlight is great and reckless getaway
as far as it comes to gaming,i`m a retro gamer,i play only the oldschool games, mainly NEO GEO,i do love the CAVE vertical shooters but theres the problem there are too small on the play because when you switch it to TATE mode, you cant control with the gamepad, when you leave it landscape its too small,so thats a pity..but thats the reason i still keep an old CRT monitor.-)
when i was 12 years old, everyone got a SNES.a friend called me,he was some real anime and manga addict and got a NEO GEO out of an import store,he called me:hey come over,i got a new gaming system etc..i was blasted by the detailed sprites, the huge characters but i thought:"hey thats cool but i`ll stick to my SNES" but after that afternoon seeing the neo geo in action by a friend,i came home playing my loved SNES and thought:**** that, that`s just horrible graphics,i need that NEO GEO thing,it was literally no fun anymore to play SNES.so i traded in my snes with 40games for a neo geo with two games -robo army and sengoku2 .-) later i traded in the neo geo with 6 games for a japanese ps1,14days after it was released in japan..
..and everything that comes after ps1 isn`t exciting to me,in my opinion we are now in the worst decade of gaming ever:arcade is dead-touch gaming took it over, tiny dumb games with "accelerated controls" "movements" or even whole consoles like the Wii,xbox kinect,ps move, all this garbage..and it`s all about the "story" nowadays(who cares, these games are like a book, once you played it theres no point in playing them again, that`s why these ridiculous trophies and gamescore was invented..)or graphics(never liked 3d so much as 2d only exception was the ps1 because it was fresh but i felt after getting a ps2 years later that 3d is just not the way i love games).
and for playing these old games which need a console,a tv and a huge ass controller(neo geo arcade stick anyone?) on a phone in my pocket, everywhere, everytime is just priceless for me,the phone aspect is "soso" but when it comes to gaming, the play just rocks for retro lovers
i think with the price cut many people will buy it as a handheld only..basically its a steal and a no brainer for everyone who is into retro gaming, sure i can hookup a controller to my laptop but theres no way i would do that in spare 30minutes of time or in a train .-) with the xperia play its just slide open, press play, much faster and it`s so great to see all this games on a smaller display they look right, they feel right and they play right even 15-20years later..
