Hey,
I have had my Evo for a week or so now, and LOVE IT. For some reason it all the sudden has quit syncing my Gmail Emails. If I manually open my Gmail account, and click Refresh under Menu, it will download the new emails. Other than this, its not syncing them.
I have double checked under the Sync Settings in the Settings area, and they are all set to sync.
What have I done, or not done to make this happen?
Thanks,
Bryan

Mine started doing the same thing today. Have you rooted/flashed a new Rom? I am rooted and running Fresh .3.
Stock rom, but I have run Unrevoked Root program. Thats all I have other than the stock rom, and a ton of programs.

I noticed this today as well. I thought it was just me! It seems to happen regardless of whether I'm on 3G or Wi-Fi. I'm running stock 2.1; no root. It worked perfectly from day one, and I only noticed it today. For some reason, I don't think the phone is syncing with the Google... or GMail isn't pushing it out to the Evo.
Yeah, same here. Tried playing with various settings - was syncing this morning, then quit around 10:30-ish. I'm assuming it's something on the backend and not a problem with the phones.
Yea, I am thinking the same thing, something with the Gmail Servers, if I am not the only one having the problem.
Figured it might have been something that I had installed, but I guess not.
Maybe a google techy will figure it out for us.

yep, same here. not worried about it, it'll be back
I'm glad we got this thread started. I was beginning to think I was going crazy, or my phone was at least. The last thing we need is another "problem" occurring with our phones.
Is it ok that knowing you all have the same problem makes me feel better? haha
I also noticed that my Google Account (Menu>Settings>Accounts & Sync>Google) hasn't updated in a few hours since giving it time to "work itself out." I know that if I update it manually, it'll push the Gmail through, but I don't understand why the Google sync would just stop updating on its own.
Just giving an update.
Didn't seem to get Gmail to sync today. I don't know whether this problem is isolated to a select few of us but I wanted to fix this and just resorted to resetting Gmail. I followed the instructions here, and it's been working as it should for the past few hours... I hope it lasts...
Directions: (Edit, I'm unable to post links so here are the instructions)...
Troubleshooting: Problems with sync
On Android devices, the Gmail application is automatically synced with the Gmail server, and vice versa. If you experience problems with syncing, try clearing your device's Gmail application data and doing a fresh sync with the server.
Just follow these steps:
1. Press your device's < Home > button, then press < Menu >.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select Applications, then Manage applications.
4. Select Gmail Storage.
Note: If you don't see 'Gmail Storage,' press < Menu > again, then select Filter > All.
5. Select Clear data. Answer OK when prompted.
6. Return to the list of applications by pressing the < Back > button on your device.
7. Select Gmail and then select Clear data. Answer OK when prompted.
To restart your device, press and hold the < Power > or < End call > button, then select Power off. Press the < Power > or < End call > button to power on.
Your device will re-sync with the server after restarting (this may take several minutes).
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, check to see if you have any account notifications on your device.
Press your device's < Home > button, then press < Menu >. Select Notifications. If you have any system notifications about a sign-in or password error, you should make sure your account information is correct in order for Gmail to sync.

I did the same thing and mine started working fine last night also.
Still working today.

Had the same problem. I had two Gmail accounts syncing. I tried the fix above but it did not work. I removed the 2nd Gmail and did it again and then it worked. Not sure why. Wanted to post this if anyone had the problem that was not being fixed to try deleting multiple Gmail accounts.
Google Not Pushing to HTC EVO
Hey guys,
I wanted to state the fact that I am having the same problems and thought that I would get it out there.
I originally had 11 email accounts syncing with my device, and all were flawlessly pushing the mail to me as it came thought Google's servers. I have noticed that over the past few days that I have had to do this syncing manually by going into the app and pressing refresh.
I am deleting all my email accounts except the main two and forwarding all the others to the main email account.
Here is the kicker... I also have Google Voice and it has stopped syncing the text messages to me as well. I just now received a text from my sister that she sent yesterday. (Just arrived as I am typing this and it is timestamped for yesterday.)
I am testing this out to see if deleting 9 email accounts, deleting the Gmail storage through the application settings menu, and rebooting my device will help.
I do also want to add: I am utilizing the Task Killer application. I have enabled in the settings the option of viewing all of the background tasks. I have ignored everything that says Google on it, Gmail, or has the words sync in it. (Before it was killing all the apps and background tasks things.) I am on the Stock 2.1 rom and I am not rooted with my HTC EVO.
I am going to see if this works - and if it doesn't you will hear back from me.
Good luck to the rest of you guys out there experiencing the same problems with your Sprint EVO. (I still love the device and hope this is a minor bug...)
Update: Right now everything is working correctly... We will see tomorrow. Good luck guys and gals.

i started having gmail sync issues this morning. around the same time i turned off calendar sync to see how much it improved battery life.
although the box is still checked to sync, i've had to manually sync gmail all day.
i guess the next step is to re-enable calendar sync and see if that fixes it.
I've had problems with gmail auto syncing as well. This is what I've found gets things back in order..
clearing data for the gmail apps, I also clear data for the other google apps just to be safe.
Then I go into gmail and set settings>labels>inbox to "sync all"
I also learned that shutting down gtalk also breaks gmail auto sync, not signing out, stopping the app. I had sartup auditor set to prevent gtalk from starting on boot, when I let it start up on boot my gmail sync's just fine.

You are not alone. I have a friend with a BlackBerry storm from ATT which stopped syncing about the same time. It could be a problem at their end.
Still syncing today!

Mine stopped syncing yesterday around 2p mountain time, reset the phone, pulled the battery several times nothing helped. Set up a new gmail acct through the phone, that worked fine, but my original just would not sync. So I pull the battery, and pulled the sd card. Then I put it all back together and it started working. I dont know if it was coincidence or not. But yall might want to try pulling the SD card before going through a reset.
Hi got my new phone, but how to tell android that it will only sync my mails during daytime?
In Symbian and WinMobile this was part of the mail/exchange client maybe i am simply too blind to see it.
I would like to know too but my problem is getting the bloody thing to sync. I set it to fetch every 30 mins but it is not fetching at all.....
Mine syncs with imap, gmail and exchange pretty easy. Just opened the email app that was preinstalled and added the accounts. But it does it 24 hours every 60 minutes...
Assuming it's an exchange account:
(From Home)
Menu > Settings > Accounts and sync > your exchange account > Account settings > Sync schedule
This is on my Galaxy w/ the latest software, not sure if the other Galaxy's throughout the world have different options.
There doesnt seem to be an option to do this with gmail though, which sucks.
I think the OP wants to disable updating during the night and is not asking how to set the update frequency.
I use an App on my Hero (not got an SGS yet) called Timeriffic which allows you to mute etc by setting schedule - it can be used to control another App called APNdroid I believe that will do what you want to do.
I only use Timeriffic to mute and I set it for different times on different nights, so my phone stays active later at the weekend (when I go out) and it also unmutes later at the weekend (when I get a lie in if my son doesn't make too much noise).
Vince
If the OP wants to go beyond Exchange and stop Gmail and others at night, there's an app called 'Setting Profiles' in the market for $3 which will let one create a night-time profile which disables the automatic data sync for all accounts, it's not account specific but sounds like it'd do the trick with timed profiles.
It also does ringtone/sounds, brightness, GPS, wallpaper, volume and other settings and can trigger off of time of day, calendar, location, call, battery level, headset, bt, wifi etc.
I use the power control widget, and just turn off sync'ing when I go to bed.

There i expected it to be, but isn't. I got software version F3 in the end on my Galaxy S.
But it should really be an global option to say data sync is on off.
I'm having multiple problems with this, the way it works is really an absolute catastrophy. Don't know if this is a SGS specific problem.
All I want is to sync contacts with FB so that I can use profile pictures on my phone. Nothing more, nothing less.
So first thing I did was set up a new account for FB. Before you EVER get the chance to say you don't want this, FB already syncs and clogs your calendar with numerous events including 100s of invitees you couldn't care less about.
So, I had a hard enough time even getting all the FB stuff out of my calendar again. Not only do you have to uncheck FB under settings -> accounts & sync -> fb, but you also have to uncheck it under calendar -> options -> settings -> calendars. I have absolutely no clue what this redundancy is for except to create a whole bunch of problems.
Fair enough, that worked. But since battery drain is a real problem on this device I tested some of the settings to try and optimize. Should have knew this was a bad idea from the start.
So I turned off 'background data' on settings -> accounts & sync. Market doesn't work without this, so useless, turn it back on. Great, all syncs in contacts have been erased.
Took me about 2 hours to connect my contacts to the appropriate FB friends again. Fair enough, but now all birthdays show up in the calendar again.
What can I do now? Is the only thing I can do to manually delete all these birthdays from my calendar again?
Speaking generally, the whole settings deal on Android is driving me crazy. Bad description, redundancy, and the device doing whatever it want's regardless of what I do, I'm really starting to question whether this device was a smart buy.
Since Froyo, my Galaxy S suffers from battery drain if an exchange emailaccount is setup (irrespective of the update interval set). The only ROM & kernel which didn't do this was XWJPA with the Speedmod kernels.
Battery drain was easy to spot: SystemPanel would show that the CPU load while the phone was asleep was a steady 10-20%. Once the exchange account was removed, behaviour was back to normal immediately (idle CPU floating between 1% and 3%).
Since i like JVH very much, i have come up with a workaround in Gingerbread JVH: in Settings, Accounts and Synchronization, i untick 'Auto-sync' . This stops the idle CPU load.
Next, i have set up a task with Tasker, the task enables auto-sync every 4 hours, waits 5 minutes, and disables auto-sync again. This way, stuff is still synced every now and then without the battery drain.
Hope this helps someone.
Pls post your task settings for us to import. Thks
This does not solve the "suspend" bug.
Just tried it but after playing some game for testing this solution the suspend bug came back.

well you could try removing software update app.
Already deleted the software update app. Doesn't seem to help.
Any other (new) sugestions?

I have also seen this with my phone - but more importantly I have seen it on the server side as we have a number of Android phones, and we end up with a lot of processes running on the server.
I discovered by looking in the server logs that the email application is polling the Calendar on a constant basis. It is not just pinging the folder as it should do - it is also doing a sync every 5 minutes or so as far as I can tell.
My workaround is to uncheck the option for Calendar sync.
Other items Email, Contacts and Tasks all sync just fine as they are supposed to do.
Then every once in a while I check the Calendar sync option - perform a Sync Now to bring the calendar up to date - then uncheck the option again.
I do hope thy sort out this issue soon - as otherwise they have done a great job with enhancing the email application as far as ActiveSync integration goes.

Exactly the same issue I am having.. Calandar is syncing like mad.... Im using Enhanced Email for my exchange email and thats bulling 46% of my battery.
Have removed the calandar sync and will update on results once i have a few hrs usage
Update: stopping exchange calendar sync has fixed my battery drain issues on jvh.
Sammy may have made changes to the sync app and stopped it from behaving properly. Guess its manual calendar sync until they fix
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
update II:
Enhanced Email battery drain has gone from 40% to 4% since disabling calandar sync i now have more than 5hrs battery life
i m ready to disable all the calendar to get just few hours of battery

Please note that this needs the program Tasker, available in the Market.
1. create a new Profile with the context Time, name the profile as you wish
2. set the From: field to 00:00, tick Repeat an set that to every x hours (i use 4 houres)
3. tap Done
4. Add a New Task, name the task as you wish
5. add an action, from the category Net, choose action Auto-sync, Set to On, tick Done
6. add an action, from the category Tasker, choose action Wait, Set to 5 minutes, tick Done
7. add an action, from the category Net, choose action Auto-sync, Set to Off, tick Done
8. Tick Done
9. Tick Apply
This way, its still possible to sync (even Agenda) without battery drain

Thanks! This is consistent with something i have seen multiple times: if i opened up Settings, Accounts and Synchronization on the phone, and tapped the Exchange account, the grey spinning circle would always show next to the calendar entry, indicating it was in a sync loop or something.
I guess, this could very well be related to Android being sensitive to recurring appointments (and exceptions in recurring patterns) and appointments with large notes attached to them.
Could you point me to the logs on the Exchange server which lead you to this discovery. I'd like to dive in deeper.
Hi, I recently bought a new moto g5+ and after 1 week I think there is a problem with the Gmail notifications.
If my phone go to idle, after few minutes, it won't receive any gmail notifications.
Only if I wake it up, the mails arrive.
I run some tests and understood it's only after few minutes (4-5 maybe), before this, even in idle it works fine.
the notifications are not deleted if your read the mail en the PC (or outlook for my exchange account) - i thik it's supposed to automatically clean the notification in this case no ?
For whatsapp there is no problem.
I don't use greenify
same behavior if i install an app from the play store on my PC. It won't start to install if i don't wake up the phone
What I did today but it doesn't help:
- reboot
- uncheck and check everything in my GMAIL accounts sync
- reset everything in battery optimization
- the battery saver is off
Do you have any idea (beside a custom rom) ?
Thanks
my details are:
xt1687
android 7.0
build number npn25.137-83
I know you said you "reset" everything in Battery Optimization, but did you turn off Battery Optimization for Gmail?
Go to Settings - Battery - 3-dot menu - Battery Optimization and change the drop down to All Apps, then find Gmail and tap it and set it to Don't Optimize.
I actually see this a lot with various apps, especially if my phone is in my pocket for a while... When I pull it out and unlock, the notifications flood in from lots of apps.
