Android screens - Android Software Development

Hi,
How do you open a new screen in Android after a certain time? So say for example you open the app, and after like 10 seconds, another screen opens automatically. I can do this using Buttons, but I don't want to use a Button. I want the screen to open by itself after a certain given time. Please help!
Thanks!!

qmenu

I searched, but only found one thread as to where to get Qmenu. Does anyone use it? I really like it, only I can't seem to get it to open every time when I hit my start button. I know there is a setting for it to replace the system start menu, but even checked, it only sometimes opens the Qmenu by default, and usually opens my regular start menu. This app would be great if it opened every time when start is hit. Anybody have a solution?
In the options there is a setting that opens the regular start menu on long press. I set my long press to reboot. If I dont take the start icon quickly it will give me a reboot dialog box. See if its just a tap speed issue you are having. QMenu is awesome and the newest version is really sweet.
I love qmenu, without it WM seemed too simplistic & tedious.
Had the same 'problem' about the start menu too at first, but I was new to this diamond & too heavy handed. The baby needs caressing gently.
haha thanks for the replies guys, I was just being stupid and did not realize that hitting "start" and hitting the little windows icon are too different things. hitting the button in the middle opens up the regular menu, and the small icon opens up the Qmenu. I guess I just wish hitting start (easier) would open up Qmenu

Turn off screen on Windows Mobile

Hello everyone,
I have been searching for some time about a possibilitie / software that will work for my actual HTC (Diamond pro) but nothing comes to be even good. And then I remember the old times with an old HTC (sorry I do not remember the model) where a dedicate key could turn off the screen
what I am looking for, if anybody has an idea, please share it,
- hot key, shortcut that turn off the screen, and disable the touch screen
- the screen come become a-live with same key-press
that's all !!
and what I think would be the perfect solution.
- and application that as soon as it get started turn off the screen and disable the touch screen, letting still the functinality for the device to be controlled by the PC (personally I use MyMobileR )
- in that way it could be assign to a hot key, or to a short cut in the screen/menus (I will love to be possible to assign to a long touch on the central pad/button)
- it could have advance configuration options :
dim light levels instead of complete turn off
splash a logo / screen instead of black screen
- configurable key to let the app go, again lovely if a long central pad touch would make it
mainly the idea is to save battery / turn off the screen (touch also) in a easy way without lose any other functionality when the device think is not time to do it (connected to PC, GPS application, Music playing, etc...)
any idea ?
I would love to program it, but I lack the skills necessary for it. within my ignorance I presume is not a difficult app to be develop
thanks in advance
have you tried xdaShutdown?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544016
you can make a .lnk file of "lights out" and assign it to a button.
53#"\Program Files\xdashutdown\xdashutdown.exe" /lightsout

Hello dude i can share what i think
Im using Turn the Screen OFF
Its very litle and simple app so after install it on the Main Memory she will apear in the start menu, you need just to go in settings, personal, buttons and there to map some of the hardware keys to use Turn of the light.
I didt it with my Answering Button and when i press and hold that Button my phone go to sleep mode fast.. when i wana wake up the phone i can do it by the Stylus.. if i pull out the stylus the phone wake up or the second variant is to press the Power button.
Im using this app because i don`t want to use my power button anymore and this program really work for me and is free
Im using Touch HD but the program will work on any WM Device

Task switcher compatible with SGS button layout?

I'm looking for a task switcher that shows all running apps (and not like the default android one which only shows the 6 most recent). The ones I've come across seem to require a long press of the search button to activate, but the SGS lacks a dedicated search button.
Does anyone know of one that uses another shortcut, long press home / double tap home for example?
This is exactly what I'm looking for, but I've been searching through in market place for something that let's me assign program to hardware key action. No luck so far. Any experienced folks know if it's possible to customize the phone this way?
I have used taskswitcher and prehome..both function pretty much the same way...tap home button once shows all running apps and hitting it once more from the app switch screen takes you to the home screen. I kinda prefer prehome as it seems to use less memory but then again theres really not much of a difference imo..hope this helped..

Great recommendation. Will try it out. Thank you very much for sharing is.
Lovely. Pressing home will show the truly still running task instead of recently used ones. It's lets you kill or switch to any active program.
So, long press home to show last 6 most recently used programs
single press home will invoke the task manager, allowing killing and switching.
Double press home to really go to home.
Sounds like what I want. Seems a little buggy, but I'm happy with it at least for now.

My Tab can take screenshots...but I don't know how

Ok, something really weird.
Yesterday, I was showing off my Tab to a friend, and we kind of got stuck on comparing how fast the portrait/landscape switch works on ADW launcher vs. stock touchwiz. So we were tipping the device back and forth for a while when it froze for a few seconds.
Trying to get it to react, I hit back, home, power, probably in that order, but I'm not sure.
The reaction, a message pops up about the image capture being saved. Then again. And indeed, in my Gallery I now have a folder call Screen Captures and inside it there are two screenshots. One of my standard homescreen and one of a force close error message (for the calculator app I use - Kreac).
I've been trying to reproduce this since, but without any success. Is there a hidden screenshot app in there somewhere?
Hi , just keep pressing the back button and double press the power button to take screenshots.

Indeed.
Is this common knowledge that I had missed? I ask because I've seen several threads on various forums claiming that there is no app and no way to take a screenshot?
Interesting. Is there a service running that handles this feature or is it a core process?
Don't know. But I just noticed there's an entry 'com.sec.android.app.screencapture' in the application manager list.

i remember it... but ive removed it now and theres no apk, so theres no way to restore without flashing
i was trying screens with one of the root apps on the market and they all came out in funky colors so i got rid of it (must have taken sammys built in app out as well by mistake)
IMHO, best way to take screenshot on any device, galaxy tab included, is via ddms.bat ( Dalvik Debug Monitor) under dir tools of SDK. You can find "screen capture" under Device menu.
Can't for the life of me see how using DDMS can be "better" than this on-device method in general use!
This is a good find - we need a sticky for these tidbits!

It's a good tip, but I much prefer using DropCap 2 from the Market, at least for when I'm not using a full-screen application. Talking of which, are in-game screenshots possible with the hardware button method ?
I was able to capture a screen shot by pressing back and then pressing the power button twice. But that does not capture the screen that I wanted. Instead, it captured the screen of "back" when I press the back button.
This button combination does not make much sense in my opinion. Any say?
It works fine for me in most apps (including Angry Birds), but not in the stock Video player or in the Gameloft games like N.O.V.A.

Dave
Is there any other way to do it ? Ad soon as I hit back it goes back to the previous screen and take screenshot of that screen. Isnt that kinda pointless?

For this cases I suggest ddms in the previous post. ddms don't need any user interface and grab everything, also video played in stock video player. And grabbed screenshot can be saved directly on HD, rotated, discarded...
I find that "holding" the back button down until vibrates (rather than merely just pressing it) and then pressing the power button just once works consistently well for me. Haven't needed DDMS yet.
For me it works fine; keep pressing back and tap power button.

Hit back and power at the same time... and then hit power again... and you hear a sound like a camera shutter... and says it's saved.
Dear all
Very simple
. Press and hold back key
. Short press power key
screen will automatic save in folder Screen picture

Ok, I got it now. The theory is to hold the back button and do not let go until you hit the power button twice. It works!! But it takes quite a while for the picture to show up in the Gallery. I thought the screen capture did not work.
SOLVED: How to screen capture if Back key exits from the current screen
I just solved how to capture the screen if holding down the Back key exits from the application so you end up capturing the previous screen, or the Home screen in most cases.
For example, in Maps, I couldn't capture the Map as it goes back to the Home screen once I hold down the back key. The technique is to go one screen deeper; example in Maps, press Menu key then select Layers. When you hold down the Back key, the Maps image screen is displayed. Keep holding the Back key then press the Power key. Screen capture now completed on the desired screen.
I think you can do the same technique for other apps.
Hope you enjoy using your Galaxy tab as much as I do, like me having sleepless nights on the porch using Google sky map, or playing Guitar solo (paid version is much better).

That's strange... it should not go back until you have taken your finger off the back button and if you hit the power button whilst holding the back button it should cancel out any back button command.

Multi window toggle and by holding back button?

Hi,
I just bought this phone, upgraded from my Note 4. Basically on the Note 4, there's a toggle and setting for multi windows, but I dont see it on the Edge+? Where can I find it?
Also, on the Note 4 I can hold the back button then a side panel will appear with the list of apps that can be used in multi windows. But holding back button on the edge+ doesnt do anything?
I've done some googling but didnt find anything useful, pls help.
Press and hold the recent apps button. Available apps will appear at the bottom of the screen. You can scroll left and right through the apps. Just select an app and it will fill the top half of your screen. Second app selected will fill the bottom half.
Hi,
What you mentioned is split view. In Note4, if i have a full screen app running (e.g. games), then when i hold the back button, it will allow me to open another apps as a popup window so I can let the full screen app running while looking at the pop up app. But the split view doesnt support this as both apps need to be split view-able
