restore original answer - Desire Themes and Apps

Hi, I've a Sense based ROM.
I'd like to know if there is a way to restore original way to answer the incoming call, like we can do with the lockscreen.apk for restoring vanilla lockscreen.
Thanks in advance.

I guess you simply switch out .apks?
- It's located in /system/app/whatever.apk - So just delete it and replace it with the one you want - Reboot and see if it worked.
Nandroid is your friend.

I know what to do...I'd like to know what is the name of the .apk I have to delete...

Whats the name of the alternative call answer screen you installed but don't like ?

I've a default stock ROM v. 2.29.405.2, and I modded it with the kitchen (added some things, deodexed, rooted). So, it isn't an alternative call answer...but the default included in stock ROM with sense.

Try setting the date forward 2 months. This is only for GENERIC devices

Thank you 42turkeys, that's very helpful.
I have 2.73.405.93 build (OTA Part1 installed). Can I directly root? Or I need downgrade?
Where can I check out, how to downgrade? If i try official OTA 2.1.
Hi, downloaded my 2.1 O.T.A as i'm not technical enough to bother with rooting, i'm some what disappointed as one of the new features I was looking forward to most was speech to text, however it seems it's not part of the package for the Hero as I don't appear to have it, is this correct? Any recommendations for other means of obtaining it, I understand it works with handcent however I get the msg 'recognizer not present'..... sorry for my ignorance but any tips would be much appreciated as I loved the idea of this feature?!!

Download and install on your phone voice search (http://www.ibotchat.co.uk/voicesearch.apk) then you will get the required files.
Then to get speech to text download 'htc ime mod' (search google) and configure the settings to get the microphone button.

Hi i just have a stupid question :
i'm quite lost with all the stuffs about the 2.1 update :
i have a 1.5 stock rooted rom on my hero.
i would like to update to 2.1 but keep the root thing.
and i want not to wipe my phone
So what i understand is :
- if i update : i'm not root anymore and won't be able to do it with the 2.1
- if i want to be 2.1+root i have to use a full rom (rooted) to have both but i have to wipe my phone.
Is that right ?
Is there or will it be a way to have an update (not wiping phone), in 2.1, and with root maintained from my 1.5 ??
Thanx for help.. i don't what to do with this ota update...
Ciao
Fred
Can anyone help, I've been trying to update mine but to no avail. I have an un-rooted generic Hero from Malaysia. I tried changing the date and restarting the phone but I still didn't receive any notification asking me to update.
Is there any way to update the phone aside from the OTA?
Hello,Ive got problem with android market,it wont show me my apps I bought. It showing me some of them but not all. Thank You.
Overall I'm really happy, coming from stock 1.5 it to the official Sense 2.1 update it seems a lot quicker. The Android devs talked about introducing lower priority for garbage collection in 2.1, and it seems to help, less judders when scrolling lists etc.
I'm loving the new weather animations when you unlock your homescreen. The wispy floating clouds are awesome!
And of course, there is the major improvement to the colour support, no more dithering or banding, the colours are sharp and clear.
One major pain, though, I swear the the volume rocker used to change the System volume when on the homescreen. Now it only changes the Ringer volume, so I have to lower the ringer, the notifications, etc, individually rather than all in one go. There doesnt seem to be a way to override what the volume rocker controls.
A new bug, when you open an sms message conversion and click in the new message area, the messages above dont shift up enough. Hence the keyboard is obscuring the last message, you cant see what you are replying to. If you cancel that, then click again to write a new message it correctly shifts the messages so the last one can be seen. This is a new bug, it used to shift them correctly in all cases.
Battery was seriously killed yesterday after the update (which understandably required a LOT of processing) and trying out all the new features, but today the drain seems just the same as 1.5.
I would also like to know if there is an APK for friendstream, live wallpapers, 3d gallery etc..
I always have my Hero set to show only phone contacts in the people app.
Why does 2.1 show phone contacts AND sim contacts in the phone app? Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks

Re: the SIM and Phone Contacts, in what part of the Phone app are you seeing them both? In the people list, or the dialer when you start typing a name, or where?
Re: animations, I thought it was in Settings->Sound and Display->Animations.
But playing around with it, it seems to be on permanently.
Just switch the screen off making sure your home screen with the weather clock is visible, switch it back on , slide down to unlock, and after about a second you get a full screen weather animation over your entire homescreen. Very cool..
Hello, another noob here...
So, if I got this correctly,I can in a Hero that does not have root, flash the oficial NOT rooted 2.1 that is available in zip format, through recovery.
Am I correct? I just rename the Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R-signed.zip to update.zip, send it to memory card, run the recovery and install it?
thanks

You need to select/add your location, do a 'search locations' for your main city near you and then apply that don't keep it on 'current location'.

How do I use the stock epic dialer on Viper ROM? I don't really like the black theme and was just wondering if I could revert just the dialer?

Greetings all I'm brand new to the community..
I would love to see more themed dialers, in addition to the above requests. I did a good 30 minutes of searching through various posts as well.. Only to find two specific threads regarding dialers
By: idkwhothatis123 and jbadboy2007
One spoke of FC with some contacts button or something..
The other threads mentioning themed dialers led me to believe there would be more..
I'm either missing something. or I'm missing something??
Might any body point me in the right direction of were I could check out some themed dialers? Purtty please?
I'm running (this took me 2 days of getting my hands dirty!!!)
Epic: running Viper Trinity 3.03 and..... MY GPS works!!!!!!!!(20 hours and every version of firmware to get it that way.. )
But no I'm all warmed up and ready to go.. LOL..
Regarding a themed dialer.. I'm not just making a noob request.. I'm made the decision to start learning how to develop. Yay for me.. ( I have a programming bg and am excited to get started.. )
I'd love to replace the trinity dialer though in the mean time.. Jeeze Goat.. talk much?
Thanks all
I'm not sure which build that version of viper is on, but ideally, u could download any compatible theme. Then download the acs deodexed dk28 ROM. the dialer, alone is system/app/phone.apk.
What i would do is, open both theme and acs rom with 7zip (on computer), then drag the phone.apk into the theme folder.. then save, copy to sdcard, and flash normally.
Dialer
Thanks man for the quick reply..
I'm running SPH-D700-DK28-Extended-D
I believe that should suffice. Don't know what deoxed means yet. but I think my version is "deoxed"..?
So what I'm gathering is I can just grab any compatible theme copy it's phone.apk in to the the DK28 build that I'm using.. and re-flash?
That would mean I would then need to reflash the ROM right..
My understanding is that reflashing with a DK28 build will kill the custom ROM(viper)..
I'm having a sneaky suspicion that this should be in the devlopment section.. and now I'm thinking I need to do more homework.. Hmmmm
on another note.. I just d/l Viper Store from market.. they have some custom dialers for dl.. I'll try one of those..
However.. only one of them is available for d/l from my phone as the other 3 require one to use the multiupload link provided.. which strangely enough doesn't work on my(oranyone's?) Epic..
Ahhh so many little issues..
Thanks for you help

MIUI framework-res.apk in stock ROM, Possible?

Hello everebody,
Introducing my self again im a noob in android but with google im learning a little xP.
So I have updated my fone to Gingerbread 2.3.6 Stock, and now i cant get MIUI rom flashed in my fone as it is based in froyo kernel. So i have the ideia to download the miui rom, copy the framework-res.apk and replace my fone original framework. In my mind the uggly stock rom will look like miui, but i dont know if this will really happen. So i ask u guys, can i do that? Will my phone look like miui or it will become completely bug? Its safe to do that? Can u explain how?
Thanks everybody and sorry for my english.
Just google miui.apk and just install the launcher. www.4shared.com has something. When i tried it for a friend we could only find an older version that didn't let you have more than 4 icon on the dock.
But yes, visually you can make it like miui.
I know that i can install the launcher but this wont change notification bar and lockscreen, and those are the things that i really want to change, so can i load miui framework-res.apk in a stock rom? Will my phone look like miui or it will become completely bug? Its safe to do that? Can u explain how?
Well you could make a nandroid backup, then just do it.
If it doesn't work maybe look into miui themes for go launcher or such, I think they chagne stuff like task bars don't they? Not really sure though.
I don't think the MIUI framework-res would work with stock ROM and launcher themes don't change notifications etc AFAIK.

changing the system ui and framework won't do any harm like bricking my phone? does it?
Not permanently. Worst case scenario - you'll get a boot loop and have to flash back to stock, and start again.
For me this would be a non-issue, but perhaps it's too much hassle for some so each to their own.
But bottom line it would take no more than 1/2 an hour to just test it yourself and fully restore if things didn't work out and that's probably going to be the fastest way to get an answer about this.
I'd give it a crack myself for you, but my phone has been in for repair for 46 days in a row so far... so you'll be waiting a while for that
i've tried it and it got a bootloop is every framework.jar and framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk is unique to every phone??
Yes it is..Completely unique for all devices
I've seen MIUI running on top of a stock ROM, specially in xperias.
Maybe this helps:

[Q] All NAND users need these answers

hi guys,
i have flashed only 30+ roms untill today but i still don't really know some answers? if somebody smarter than me can answer my questions below i will really appreciate. I tried to find the exact answers searching the forums but i was confused.
1. is it important which wm6.5 rom we had lastly flashed before we flash a nand rom?
2. is the radio important? (i read that radio 2.12... is better for battery life)
3. is "creating an ext4 partition with mini partition tool wizard" better than "partitioning sd card in rocovery menu during installation" ?
4. if i don't use a2sd or someting like that and only use my internel memory for apps, will my rom run faster and have better battery life?
5. the roms we install includes a kernel right? so should we install some other kernels for better performance, battery life etc..? what is the difference between the kernels ?
6. if i don't care how beautiful or good looking my rom interface is, which type of roms (sense, miui..) is better for battery life and performance.

it must be a tmous radio = meaning it must support the 576mb hack on regular hd2, = meaning a radio that has 50 as teh third set of digits
2.15.50, , 2.12.50, 2.10.50 will work, 2.12.51 wont.

cm7 > miui > sense or maybe miui > cm7 > sense, , , ,probably.
Just saying, your title is wrong. Most NAND users don't need these answers as they already know these answers by reading
Oh and for 5 (seeing as samsamuel either forgot or didn't know) you can install other kernels depending on the type of ROM you're on, but often it isn't really necessary. For example, on Typhoon CM7 I tried Dorimanx's kernel and really didn't notice any difference from the stock Tytung R14. I haven't tried many other kernels, and some will obviously have advantages over others, so I guess the only way to find out which is the best for your usage is by flashing all of the compatible ones you can find and using your phone as normal with those kernels for a day or so, and just figure out which is best through how fast they feel and using CurrentWidget to measure battery drain.

I'm not certain but I think not. I use the app 'exDialer' and when you go to edit contacts or when you're in the in-call screen it uses the stock phone app, so if you remove the stock phone app I would think you wouldn't be able to use the phone/edit contacts. This is on CM7 btw, so I don't know about CM9 or AOKP.

you are right about ex dialer or similar dialer apps. they only change the interface and the phone.apk works at background for dialing someone, comunicating with the network operator and that kind of technical stuff. But if i try miui roms phone.apk or sense phone.apk instead, it may work fine. i just don't know if there is some other things to change in zip file which is about phone.apk

I highly doubt either Sense or MIUI's dialers would work on any ROM other than a Sense or MIUI ROM. If that were the case, don't you think everyone would be replacing system apps with whichever app from whichever Android version/manufacturer skin they wanted? If I were you, I wouldn't even bother trying it out. All you'll end up having to do is reflash the ROM which would basically just be effort.

[Q] A question regarding 4.2.2 upgrade and native dialer

I have enabled native dialer by modifying framework-res.apk in my Nexus 7 3G with JB 4.2.1.
Now my question is, will the native dialer stay if i upgrade to 4.2.2? Did anybody try? Pls share. Thanks a lot.
Are you on a custom ROM?
No, I simply downloaded a dialer-enabled framework-res in this forum and replaced the original one.
btw, is there any place to download dialer-enabled 4.2.2 framework? I had trouble doing this myself
thanks in advance!
Can you post up your framework-res? I will make the small edit for you. As I understand it, it is just a bool edit "<bool name="config_voice_capable">false</bool>", where you change false to true.

Hi hlxanthus,
Attached is the framework-res.apk from 4.2.2. Really appreciate if you can help!
Thank you!
Here are some flashable packages, that will work for you within twrp or cwm recoveries. If you would rather you can just crack them open to pull the apk out. One has the one I modded and the other is the original you posted up. Please know that this will ONLY work with the rom you pulled the framework-res from. So if this is a stock apk, then that is all you can use this with.
Please note, that while this should give you access to the dialer, it will not magically enable phone calls on your device (that I know of atleast, let me know if I am wrong LOL). You will still have to use a VoIP service like GrooveIP for example to route said phone calls thru your wifi and 3G radios.
Download - 4.2.2.dialer_enabled.framework-res.tilapia.zip

I clicked the system update button and reboot....
But it didn't update successfully and stopped in the middle of the upgrade.
I was asked to reboot and I am still in 4.2.1.
Any idea why? The whole process took only a minute or so.
Is it because mine was rooted?

Might be. Other modifications have you made? You might need to flash a stock recovery back in place at the very least.
