Under settings buttons... always worth switching off and restarting then if that does not hard reset.

same problem here........................probably you installed another key mapper too? (AEBPlus).
It seems a hard reset is the only solution, or somebody could post the registry entry where this key map is defined!?
TIA
Yep put AEBPlus in didnt like so i uninstalled it now no comm manager Ahhh!!!!
After uninstalling AEBPlus, you keep stuck with only "4 buttons", at least in the System Settings. Happily everything keeps working...............expect the CommMgr button.
Either somebody posts the correct reg-entries for this key, or you have to do a hard reset.
I think it might be solved if you place the original files back into: \Windows\AppButtons
Maybe somebody can post a RAR file of that folder?
Second thing, I found the keys in the register. They can be found here:
Mobile device\HEKY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
You will see that the 4 keys are there left by AEBPlus. The missing keys should be here when you have a working Wizard
Hope someone can post the keys and values aswell?
I had the same problem. The registry values in this post will restore function:

You have to add a string to the register. Then give that string the right name and value
AEBPlus was completely rewritten recently. New version will not harm any application buttons ever, compatible with almost any WM 2003/2003SE/2005 device and has a lot of new features

remap the start menu?

Is there a way (i know there must be ) to remap the start menu icon to open something else in wm5 / wm6 pro? if so, how?
shouldnt it just be a reg hack?
bump......but i think its rather function in coredll, or wherever that function is...
it would be NICe to have wm5newmenu on that damn button imo...
i am thinking about changing image of m$ for something else...and i have almost same problem as yours...it may be possible with ROM kitchen...but..mabye not.
there are apps i have seen, just apps, that seem to replace the start menus with there version of a start menu, but idk how they do it
Hmm, if it is not possible to change the start menu icon functionality, it may be possible to make a workaround (something on the lines of wisbar)..

I've been looking for ages! Only solution I've found is SK Menu. What it seems to do is overlay its own window on top of the Start button, & you can assign pretty much whatever you like to it (Tap & Tap n Hold)

Interesting register key - maybe possible to assign stuff to virtual buttons??

Hey there...hope this is at least a bit helpful..
I was digging in the registry and found this key:
HKEY_Local Machine\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C6
There are these values:
BtnWnd - 0x0(0) - wtf
Flags - 0x9(9) - wtf
Icon - \windows\SDDialer.exe, 0 - hmm?
Name - Button 1(Hold) - you know where my point is?
ResetCmd - blahblah\Voice speed blah blah
WndCls - wtf
Do you think that this may lead to some mapping of the buttons?
Like the directory for these keys is called 40C6, what if other buttons are other names??
I am a bit noob in this stuff so maybe this is discovery like ****...but if it makes sense somehow then hurrray
Let me know waht you think....
Thanks.
You should try AEBPlus (there are bound to be alternatives, but that's what I use). It allows you to map all the buttons except the Home-key, you can also map different things to long-holds, double presses, triple presses etc. Oh one tip, if you are going to use AEBPlus, the back key should be mapped under the 'OK-key' in the program, adding the button manually (by pressing it and letting the software detect it) doesn't work for the back key.
ow shooots
I thought that this topic is still open...but as I can see there is a solution to map other buttons as well...
whoop, sorry for nothing then
Hi,
AEButtons is not really working well on my Blackstone.
It would be great if someone would find how to make appear the 6 'hard' buttons (vol up, vol down, red key, home, back and green key) in the buttons configuration at settings.
In this way we could assign the funtion we want, without having to use a resident program which may create conflict with some applications (like Manila).
I learnt that the back button is #405C.
Thanks
Try This

How to remap Hardware Buttons?

Hi,
on the X2 there is no "Buttons" app in the personal Settings Menu as usual found on like any other Windows Mobile Phone i ever used.
I tried the Vito Button Mapper 4.0 which is rather old and doesn't seem to work.
I want to remap the "Panels" Hardware Button to open the Start Menu instead, since I ripped the Panels off (with the SEUS-Method as described in ROM Development).
I bet this can be done via Registry somewhere, or anybody knows an app able to config the Buttons?
Thanks
After some hours of searching and trying i found the tool "AE Button Plus".
It's not free and not my first choice, since it's a memory resident app running in the background and hooking keys. Supports hold and multiple click stuff too.
I would prefer tweaking it via registry, but can't figure out how.
The key would be:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys]
Under this, the folders represent the buttons, but only two to be found on the X2 and I wasn't able to change them successfully. If anyone could figure this out, I'd be happy!

Blackstone Hardware Key Assignment

Hi,
I'm using xdandroid 2.21 on my blackstone and noticed some redundancy. the end call hw button is assigned to turn off phone, and the turn off phone hw key is also assigned to that.
Back is assigned to Back
Home is assigned to the Menu key (the popup menu from below)
The Call key is assigned to the call action.
So two buttons are assigned to the same action and the (for me) most important key is not assigned, the home key.
So if I browsed a little time in the web and want back to the homescreen, I have to use the back key. so I have to go through all the sites I have browsed.
Is there a way to change the hw key assignments on the blackstone?
Open "Spare parts" app and change end button behavior to "Go to home". Unfortunately there's no other way for now.
Keymappings are declared in ".kl" files in the /system/usr/keylayout/ folder.
I'm at work now, can't remember which keyboard layout is used for blackstone (some rhodium .kl file, I vaguely remember, but it is build dependent, I've also seen the general qwerty.kl being used)
For modifying the file, see for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683902, and http://forum.samdroid.net/f56/modifying-keymap-2717/, lots of fun to be had!
For more info, see also
http://www.kandroid.org/android_pdk/keymaps_keyboard_input.html
Anyway, for a quick solution: A recent rootfs.img for blackstone with nice keymappings in the .kl file can be found in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936601
But be aware that that replaces more than just the .kl file!
Your current build might need the rootfs.img it came with, and another option is to modify the rootfs.img and modify the .kl files there.
That however involves mounting .ext2 partitions, which is no fun in Windows
Cheers,
Robbert
