[Q] Unlocking the wildfire without unlock code - Wildfire General

Hello *,
I recently bought a HTC Wildfire from a friend who had his monthly subscription renewed (Vodafone), and having Vodafone unlock my phone would cost 50 euro.
I managed to root the device using Unrevoked, but I'm not sure if I understand how the unlocking process works. If I have root, that means I have full access to all the files in the device, including the system files, right?
Isn't then unlocking just editing one file with a hex editor? Can you guys help me understand what should I do in order to get this baby unlocked without having to pay for a code?

I believe there is a way to unlock it by editing certain file info on your phone, but it is complicated.
If you do a search on google, you'll find dozens of unlocking services for much cheaper than 50euro. I used one a couple months ago that cost be 18pounds (approx. 25euro) and it worked perfectly and was unlocked in about 10 minutes. I found other services for about half that cost as well, but ultimately went with the more expensive one because it looked more trustworthy.

The thing is that unlocking services do not work for me, since Vodafone changed the original unlock codes on purpose, just to be the only source of unlock codes.
So, the only option for me is to do it myself, or have them do it.
I am comfortable with editing files on the phone, but I don't know which files need to be edited. I looked into the source code, but I got lost.
So, again, if anybody can point me to the right files to edit, please do so.
Thanks.

I sent an email to Vodafone and the sent me the NUC code via email all they asked is for me to top my phone up to 20 gbp and they would deduct it from my account, which its now been 20 days and they still haven't taken it. It took 5 days for the code though.

Thank you for your answers, but dealing with Vodafone is not what I am looking for. This is a hacking forum, right?
All I want is someone to tell me what files need to be edited. I helped a friend last weekend unlock a Samsung Galaxy S with instructions found on xda. However, I see that nobody posted instructions for the Wildfire.
I am sure that a lot of people are in my situation, and do not want to spend their money on unlock codes.
Thanks to all and please reply.

Come on, people. I can't believe nobody has an answer for this.

I'm kinda in the same position with you, i assume you are talking about vodafone romania (right?) i bought mine without a contract, but still it's locked on their network. Only way to get the unlock code is by asking them, but i don't want to get involved in that since i have a bad experience with their "unlocking" service or better said the time it takes for the simplest of tasks.

Yes that is correct. Somebody suggested a RUU but that only helps debranding the phone, which is not our case. Any other opinions? Anybody? I can't believe people are ignoring a fairly simple question.

I would guess that you run a higher risk of bricking your wildfire trying to hack the network unlock and therefore those in the know would be unwilling to share any info for risk of agrevation.
I Have not tried, have not seen any reports this will work for the wildfire and you try at your own risk, but I have seen reports for the desire that a debrand then OTA update without a Sim in the Phone will remove the Network Unlock. It should also be said however that you would run the risk of loosing root if the Update applied is then unrootable.

I'm not sure what is the reason for which nobody is sharing any info about unlocking the wildfire, but I assume a lot of people in the know own unlock sites. And that says it all. I am pretty disappointed...hopefully somebody will guide me through. Bricking the phone is a risk I am willing to take, I guess otherwise I would't be looking for solutions on this forum.

Htc Hero Unlock

I have just debranded my tmobile G2 and i am now running thr 2.1 generic htc rom. I just need to unlock the phone.
Does anyone know where if there is a free or cheap way to do it?
Thanks in advance.
Can't unlock for free. Someone else can recommend you a place as I haven't bothered.
no free way, unless you call tmobile and get them to unlock it.
the way ive unlocked 2 heros is by using express-codes on ebay.

there are other sellers, but i can actually recommend this guy from using his codes.

No, unlock is permanent.
Im currently locked to orange but have also purchased a code from the link above but aside from the being able obviously use different sims are there any other advantages to unlocking ?
Reason I ask is because im pretty sure that when I first rooted and loaded a custom rom I used an orange specific radio.....but more recent threads suggest radios are region rather than network specific....
I dont currently have any issues being locked so want to be sure there will be no adverse effects from the unlock.....
Cheers

No other unlocking advantages AFAIK, although orange uk is known to have issues on some of the radios if locked (to be fair, I think it happened only once or twice).
But I think that is all over. Radios are region/hardware defined, not network defined. Unlocking doesn't cause issues. In fact, unlocking was the way to use the "non orange" radio most recently on an orange phone.

This being a community of highly skilled devs, surely someone can figure out how we can unlock our phones without having to pay for the 'privilege'?
Even the guys we are buying the codes from must have figured something out or are buying the codes from elsewhere?
How exactly does this work? Where do you enter the unlock code?
I thought once you install custom firmware you phone will be unlocked...

They are buying their codes direct from HTC. And a method of unlocking for free is known, but it needs done before every boot, so it's not usable, as it needs a PC and home-made serial terminal cable to send AT commands to the radio chip IIRC.
The radio requires the code to allow access, and the codes are randomly assigned/generated, so there's no algorithm to reverse engineer.
You insert a SIM that your phone won't accept, and then you get asked for the unlock code at boot, just like entering your SIM PIN.
And at £6.75 for an unlock code, I'm not gonna spend hours on looking for a method I'm afraid, since I can't justify the time to myself.

dont see how this place having devs means that you get to unlock your phone for free. this place is for rom development mainly, if you want methods on how to unlock, there are forums like gsmhosting that deal with that.
the guys that sell the codes online havent "figured something out". they are providing a service which they also pay for, they are basically middle men. i suggest you research how unlocking via code works.
to unlock via code, you put in a sim that isnt allowed, eg a tmobile sim into an orange locked phone, then itll tell you "sim restricted" or thereabouts, and ask for the code. thats where you enter it.
custom firmware has nothing to do with unlocking, although in certain cases (eg orange firmware) custom roms or downgrading is required to unlock the phone.
still doesnt mean that custom roms actually unlock the phone.
Just been on eBay to leave feedback for express codes whom I bought an unlock off only 2 days ago...looks like they're no longer registered? Either way code worked so not too fussed.....

if you had a look at his negative feedback, most of them had follow up comments by him which were removed by ebay. i managed to see one or two of them before they got removed, and they were basically things like "your wifes using the phone as a replacement for you lol", things like that. nearly all of his neg feedback had follow up comments removed.
was quite funny, but i think that it may be because of those comments that hes no longer registered. only a hunch mind you.
Greetings folks,
Got one of these codes and happy with it,

Goodbye G2

Unfortunately I have to say goodbye to my G2. I haven't had it very long and I couldn't even use it for its full potential but after about 4 hours each day a lot of reading and a lot of trial and error I think my device has an issue.
My G2 was unlocked with an unlock code and I've tried doing everything to get it to work on another network however I've failed. Now its time I move my G2 onto someone else who either lives in the states or well you know the rest.
It was a solid device - except for the annoying hinge.

Yeah it does work with Wind, however it doesn't have the "4G" like speeds because Wind doesn't support that.
Yes I'm positive the phone is unlocked I ran the gfree verify both ways twice.

I don't understand what you are saying at all. First you say you can't get connected to the network. Then you say it works, but not with 4G speed since your carrier doesn't support it. Sounds like a carrier issue, not a device issue.
Just making a call or sending a text (using any non T-Mob SIM) will verify the phone is SIM unlocked (you can just text yourself to test). To get the data to work (if it isn't), you may need to manually enter APN settings into the phone. That's what I had to do to get the data working on the US AT&T network using a Bell Canada branded Desire Z.
There have been a lot of problems with unlocking the Vision, particularly the G2, using unlock codes.
Much better is the "gfree" method which is free and doesn't need any codes entered. It also gives you some other useful stuff, like full radio S-OFF, as well as SIM unlock. Several people had big problems with their phones after using unlock codes, and that was sorted via gfree. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855764

Could you give some examples of the problems people were having with their phones after unlocking with a code?
I've unlocked my Desire Z to work on Rogers with an unlock code, and I have some concerns about my phone now. I'm not sure if they're issues related to unlocking, or just functionality limits of the phone itself.
Thanks.

Thanks for the link. Nothing in that thread seems to be related to the issues I have with my phone.
I don't want to hijack this thread so I'll do some more searching and see if I can find anything pertaining to what I'm looking for. If not, I'll start a thread of my own and hopefully somebody can help me understand what's happening with my Desire Z.

Sorry if I confused you. Let me explain the issue I'm having, when I put my carrier SIM card into the device it asks me to put a SIM card in the phone and it will say "Emergency Mode", the part where I said "It works but it doesn't have the "4G" like speeds was a previous response to the thread where someone asked me if it worked on my carrier and thats why I said "It works but it doesn't have 4G like speeds".
I don't think its carrier because I've asked a few people on HowardForums and they did the GFREE method and loaded a custom ROM onto the device and it still didn't work.
I'm going to go and get some service on my account and I will see if it works - maybe it isn't working because I don't have service?

Kingo Sony Bootloader Unlocker

Not sure if this will work with the Z1, mines already unlocked so can't find out. From the pictures, it looks like it just uses the same method of unlocking the bootloader that we use, but just automated instead?????

just thought I'd share, if it hasn't already been shared.
The link do not work. BTW, who cares if there is an Official way to do it?
I will not recommended to use it even if it work as this kingo and company are not very safe.
I was just sharing incase there were people who are lazy enough to want a one click bootloader unlocker...or in this case it looks like 2-3 clicks? If it really is easier than the official way then why not?
I do not know anything about kingo, just happened to stumble upon it. Maybe it's spam/malware?

Kingo Root was already found to be sending your phone's IMEI number to a server in China. So why in the world would you even consider using this? Especially when Sony themselves provide you with a very easy way of doing it and complete instructions. I guess if you're lazy enough to not care about the potential security risk just to save a few clicks, then you deserve your IMEI to be stolen....
Sent from my Xperia Z1 using Tapatalk
I would be wary of any one click solution like this.
In the past kingo has been identified with malware, but it cleaned its act up a bit.
The official way is so easy, and the use of flashtool is as well (And that is 100% trusted)
Unofficial unlock
I'm very interested in unofficial bootloader unlock since there is no way to unlock most branded phones like my EU Vodafone version. I don't understand why Sony is doing this and why they refuse to unlock it even if I want to pay for the unlock.
I see that Kingo is also using official method so it is useless to me

How I unlocked the bootloader for Moto X on Android 4.4.4

ORIGINAL POST:
I have a Moto X (2013) with Android 4.4.4 and read here that the I cant root because of the locked bootloader and it seemed I cant unlock it too.
On the Motorola webpage (here) where I can request the unlock code for the bootloader I got this message:
"Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking"
I tried submitting the form with the string many times. It failed every time. I restarted the browser, cleared the cache etc until I tried again (probably for the 40th time) and finally a button to request the unlock code showed up. I clicked on it and got some network error being shown that the page cannot be displayed. I then copied the link the browser was trying to open, which looked like this:
(I have no idea if its a good or bad practice to post information which can identify my particular phone, So I have changed the numbers a little for the purpose of this thread)
HTML:
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/cc/productRegistration/unlockPhone/2E45000111111111/6A5B46010E0001000000000000000000/4AA31B911E16D2EC12A111121C16CB1111FED4E4/?rad=Yes
This is how my original string looked like:
2E45000111111111#1111117363011304D111100581131303131000000#4AA31B911E16D2EC12A111121C16CB1111FED4E4#6A5B46010E0001000000000000000000
I copied this link and in the next hour tried to open it a couple of times. It did not work until the 5th or 6th time when I got to the page which said I should now have received an email with the unlock code (Please note that on the Motorola website I was logged in with a Motorola ID account). Unlock code worked perfectly and I now have the bootloader unlocked (And the phone restored to its defaults, so make sure you BACKUP before unlocking the bootloader!).
I don't know why it worked. My impression is that the webpage where you request the unlock code is just working differently at different times. Why else did I get the code when I was first told that my device could not have it?
Hope this helps somebody in the future.

XT1053 -Unlocked Sim International version.
What was written on my receipt when I ordered the phone was Any Carrier/T-Mobile/AT&T
When I contacted Motorola Support they asked for the IMEI and said it did not qualify for bootloader unlock.
I tried many times in the morning and throughout the day. It worked late in the evening. Maybe try more and it could work for you too?

I was told by Motorola website that the phone is not eligible for unlocking the bootloader. I have also searched through any information I could find on this forum and elsewhere on how to unlock it. Nothing I found was helpful. If you step outside of this forum for a minute you would probably realize most people would give up right there. In the end the same webpage worked and gave the code, whats wrong with letting others know?
I am not often around this forum, but maybe for you it is very obvious that a webpage can say no 10 times and then say yes for whatever reason.
got it to work!
Thanks for the info man. I just bought a XT1060 last week and stumbled upon this. First time I tried last night the page wouldnt load. I retired today after work and it sent me the email!

I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying that it's not this secret link that allowed you to unlock, it's the fact that your model is unlockable that allowed you to unlock. If you kept trying the normal way without going through this "special" link, you would have also been able to unlock.
It is common for the website to say an unlockable model is not eligible at first, this has happened in the past to me and to other people. All I'm saying is that trying this hidden link with a model that is not unlockable (i.e: AT&T variant) will not spit the unlock code out.
I am now even more depressed... no CM for me :c we need a hero.

We do, man!

Looking to convert my Verizon HTC 10 to Global Version! Is it possible?

Hello guys, I'm new to this anyway, but I've used many HTC devices for years. This time I ended up with the Verizon HTC 10 which I've just bought few days ago due to the price in Cambodia is cheap rather than spend over 500$ to buy the International Version. So I'm here to ask all of you in case you are facing the same problem like me by wanted to convert the Verizon HTC 10 to be the same as the original unlocked phone out there. The reasons why I wanted to convert my phone are:
-Weak Signal and barely reaches to 4G LTE here (I only can use 3G here most of the time)
-I can't use Wifi Hospot (It requires Verizon Sim)
-Some feathers are not allowed to use (I really hate it)
So far, I've done so many research with rooting, unlocked bootloader and s-off, but I couldn't finger it out how I can solve the problems the right way. I saw people said paying 25$ for S-OFF with sunshine app or sth and I was like what? why do I have to pay for that? I knew it's for the donation for those developers out there, but I rather save money to buy accessories instead or is there any solution to get s-off? Well, I'm so sicked right now! I really have no idea what to convert my verizon to work as the international version. I'm just blanked that's why I came up here trying to ask you guys if u can possibly help me to solve my problem using some technical workaround with computer
My phone is running Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, Software number = 1.85.605.8, Build number = 1.85.605.8 8.0_g CL774095
Thank you for spending your time reading my questions here!
Thanks in advance :good:
I love you guys here in XDA
There is a thread on converting your phone, but it involves Sunshine. That's the only way, I'm afraid. So if you don't want to spend $25. You are stuck

S-OFF is solved by true and trusted members. No one is going to spend their time and then release it for free...
Sunshine bro!!

True. The phones have gotten so much harder to exploit them earlier versions for sure. I saw the firewater team won some $ for the pixel unlock. Awesome.
