[Q] Looked for a how-to on a nandroid backup - Fascinate General

Couldn't find one. I have CWM installed. If someone could point me to a tutorial, or give me a brief one, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Josh

After you have flash cwm, open it, scroll down to back up current rom, click it, and then you will have a backed up rom in nandroid.

totally new to this

Hey Guys,
Iam trying to flash my samsung vibrant to a new ROM. But what if I wont like it and want to go back to an original firmware my phone came with? I tried searching answers but there are multiple ones and I cant understand it so figured I ask here. Can I somehow backup my current version or download it so I can go back to just stock firmware that the phone came out the box?
Thanks for your help
You can make a back up with rom manager or you can learn to odin back to stock. Check the stickies or search for more info.

Odin doesn't do backups, you can flash back your stock Froyo rom using it though.

In order to make a backup, you need to be rooted, in order to root you need to have an update.zip file on your phone in order for the file to work you need to be on 2.1 firmware, you can probably find the file stickied in the development section, or q/a section.

Odin is the ticket. It doesn't do a backup - it restores your phone to it's fresh out of the box state. There are 2 files you need, but they're easy to find.
But blaqr0d is going to be right - once you start flashing you will only want to go back to stock if you encounter a problem.
Here's a vid I think is very helpful.
OP, please read my stickies in my signature. You will learn a lot and not waste others time.

Continuum stock rom image

Does a stock rom image for the continuum exist that can be flashed with Odin and not CWM? I dont think my phone is bricked cause I can get into the download and recovery screens. I just cant do anything from the recovery screen its stuck.
Im either gonna fix this or smash this phone to pieces. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lol, chill... I'll go on my computer now and share the link with you xP

Ok so I might not smash it but boy is this frustrating.
Thanks for your help lol =)))
Ive done some extensive searching and I havent found a single stock continuum rom for odin anywhere. So if you could create one or point me in the direction of where I could download one I would appreciate that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967165
Check that out.... Flash with Odin.. Then find (in the Continuum Android Development section) the DL17 update zip, and put that on your sdcard (named update.zip)...
Then you should be good to go...
However, i highly suggest you getting CWM working... Recovering is a lot easier with it... If you are having difficulty go log onto the IRC (http://webchat.freenode.net/) with the #Samsung-Continuum and i will help you out
You are my effin hero... All I needed was the kernel and it fired right up. Ill be keeping these files close cause Im sure Ill need them again.
Thank you!!!!
Justin
Lmao, no problem man.. haha.. Thank imnuts too for all of his development
BTW: If you stop by the IRC i will help you get cwm up and working.. Then you can flash themes, make backups, and flash my awesome Softkey Modifications
Any idea why I cant access data? Im on the phone with verizon but still no luck..
Also cant access the sd card from my pc and wifi on the phone will not connect..
Verizon is stumped they told me to take it back to the store for a replacement..
What a long day lol =)
Also voice service works I can make calls and send/receive text messages just no data. No 3g indicator.
Nevermind I got it figured out.. Everything is running normally with the DL17 clean rom.
Thanks again

Lol, with Nandroid backup, it makes a compleeeete backup of everything.... Which means it backs up your email logins, facebook logins, GOOGLE logins, everything... Which means they could buy apps on the market using your account..... Not good, lol..

Make backup of stock ROM

Hey guys,
I'm looking to throw CM7 on this atrix I just picked up but would like to have an option to return to the stock build. From the instructions I read, is it as simple as making a backup of my current stock ROM from within CWM?
Any help or direction is appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm thanks for pointing that out. So should I want to revert back I would simply install the 2.3.4 zip with my appropriate radio through CWM?
You can create your own fruitcake, look here:

Or you could do the same with 2.3.5.zip (and 2.3.5webtop.zip if you care). This is a rooted stock 2.3.5. Not real diff from 2.3.4 but some better AFAIAC.
One hint. Whatever you choose go ahead and get it on the sdcard. Sbricks happen and it will save you some angst if all you have to do is CWM install zip.

Yes, just backup from CWM then restore if you want to revert back. It's that simple.

Can't find Nandroid backup files

Hi,
Love this site for the sheer amount of knowledge people have. I've searched for an answer to this but can't find a clue. I flashed my Fascinate with CWM and then TSM Resurrection with build EH03, Firmware 2.3.5. I did a backup of my stock Froyo before moving over to a custom ROM but I can't find the NANDROID backup file on the sdcard. I then did another backup after upgrading and now I can't see either of those backups.
Has this happened to anyone else with Fascinate? I've checked in clockwork/backup but the files are not there.
Thanks for your help.
There not in
SD card>clockwordmod>backups?

Save/backup standard rom on DesireHD

Hi everybody!
I have a Desire HD with standard rom and i would try to install JellyBean.
Before proceeding to install, is possible to "save" the official rom?
I'm not interesting to save my apps or preferences, but i would like to restore the original rom to have no problem with vendor in case of hardware issue.
Is possible to do a "backup" of entire rom and restore it in future?
If is possible, can you give me how-to/wiki or tell me what should I do?
Thanks!

Yes there is a option in cwm
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
Yes there is an option called nanodroid backup which backups your entire stock Rom including apps, appdata, sms... EVERYTHING!!!. there is a option for it in clockworkmod recovery or 4ext touch recovery wherever you prefer.

Thanks for your replies!
I've read something about cwm, but to use the backup option I need to install a custom kernel, can I also backup the kernel?
Or can I download it?
Thanks
You can download the stock recovery.img and flash it later if you would want or need the stock recovery (which I don't think you want) and I would recommend 4ext recovery as it have better performance.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
Where can I find stock recovery/kernel?
I need to flash stock recovery from odin, right? or can I flash it from cwm/ext4 like a custom kernel?
4ext is touch based and will save the HW Buttons.
I would highly reccomend backing up the Stock ROM should anything happens.
Sent from my Desire HD with BlackIce.
Thanks don't hurt ya know?!
4ext is best choice for me.
Original RUU
Is there a thread with the original rom's for this device? Before I completely understood what I was doing, I rooted and flashed a custom rom without making a nandroid backup. Horrible noob mistake, but I've been fortunate to run pretty stable roms that have minor glitches, but none that I can't live without or deal with.
Yes there is a thread with the stock ROM rooted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235
Or you can download and apply this RUU: (WARNING: you will lose root)

Eww, I couldn't imagine going back to something non-rooted. I'll look in that thread for the one for my phone just in case I need to restore it to give to my kids or something.
