Here everyone... I have been trying lag fixes all over the place and I always seem to have issues partitioning the external sd for the apps... so after so many attempts, this was BY FAR the best lag fix out there.... It doesn't rely on the externalsd for functionality.
Easy and nothing special needed.
The steps below are pretty good, but I did things a little different.
Copied the update.zip to my external sdcard.
Then used Root Explorer to copy the update.zip to my internal sd card.

Then I used ROM Manager (Reboot into Recovery) to boot into the Linux Loader
Then I said update using update.zip (not install update.zip)
Then Reboot
For some reason it didn't install busybox 1.17.1 so install it manually
(located: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7574130&postcount=229)
Make sure after you install busybox.apk that you go into busybox and check to MAKE SURE you are running 1.17.1 ONLY. You might have an older version or newer version but it must be 1.17.1; if different just click install.
After that follow the MCR Scripts below. (Took about 6 minutes to do everything)
*** If MCR Scripts DOES NOT show up, its probably because you don't have the non market install hack on your phone. In the update.zip you can find the apk and install via ADB, but I didn't do it this way. ******

I ran the Tayutama update.zip using the up+power+menu button method, it installed in seconds and I restarted the phone. I ran the benchmark but still got 8xx scores. I'm an Noob, so needed more thorough instructions. These are now given below. NOTE: THIS METHOD IS MUCH MORE NOOB FRIENDLY AND DOES NOT REQUIRE A PC OR USB DEBUGGING MODE.
EDIT I had realised I needed to launch the newly installed MCR app after restart and choose a lagfix file to run. I ran the file and 'all complete'. This worked a treat. Ran Quadrant and now have a top score of 2114 running on JM2. System is much snappier. This mod of RyanZA fix by Tayutama is the most noob friendly also. Full instructions as follows:
EDIT Requirements: Make sure your phone has 'superuser' app installed by checking your app list. If it isn't installed, you can use a newer beta version of Tayutama's update.zip

Full instructions:
1. The update.zip installs all the files needed. It is attached here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1281390347
2. Place it on your internal sdcard
3. Turn off your phone.
4. Hold down Up+powerbutton+Menubutton for a couple of seconds until u see the galaxy logo .
5. Use the up and down buttons to get to update.zip.
6. Press menu button on update.zip to select it
7. It installs root, correct busybox (1.17.1) as well as all the scripts needed for the fix and the 'MCR Scripts' app to run the scripts. (NOTE: This version does not install superuser.app which is needed, although the beta update.zip does, so read 'requirements' above if needed)
8. After install, the phone restarts.
9. Go to the newly installed 'MCR Scripts' application from the app list, open it and choose from 3 scripts. For example, Lagfix10024 is the 1gb ex2 version.
10. The script should run and take a few minutes.
11. You should see an 'all complete' prompt, and this means you can close the application.
12. Run quadrant to test if the fix was applied.

What this update.zip file does is that it copies a few files to your internal sdcard and installs ASE which can be used to run .sh files without the need to use a terminal.

RemoveFix.sh - Removes the lagfix

********Alternate Method that might even work better!! ****************
All the files are located in the update.zip file that you need to download.
1. Connect phone to PC, make sure adb can see it:
adb devices
2. adb kill-server
3. adb push createlagfix.txt /sdcard/createlagfix.sh
4. adb push playlogos1 /sdcard/playlogos1
5. adb push userinit.sh /sdcard/userinit.sh
6. adb shell su -c "/system/bin/sh /sdcard/createlagfix.sh"
7. adb kill-server
8. adb reboot
************ Reverting back if there are boot up and black screen issues ****************
If you have black screen and doesn't boot into the desktop, this is the fix to return back to normal state:
To fix that problem:
1. Boot into Recovery Mode (Vol Up + Vol Down + Power) Let go of Power after you see AT&T.
2. Delete User Cache
3. Delete All User Data
4. Then see if your phone boots up
5. If your phone does boot up then navigate to Settings -> Security -> Factory Reset
6. After factory reset your phone should be useable again.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
**********Possible method of Backing up Your EXT2 Partition **********
BTW I would also perform a NANDROID Backup as well which can be done by using ROM Manager to boot into the Android Loader....
Nandroid does NOT back up the apps off your SD card.
AppsToSD (I'm speaking re MoDaCo's rom here) uses the ext2 partition on your SD card for the /data/app and /data/app-private folders, where your actual downloaded application files are kept. Nandroid does NOT back this up, and simply mounting your SD card and copying the files off also does not back this up.
The only way to back up these critical folders is to directly copy them to somewhere else. You can use command line or Droid Explorer.
If you want to use command line, do this from an ADB shell or terminal:
mkdir /sdcard/backup/
mkdir /sdcard/backup/app
mkdir /sdcard/backup/app-private
cp -r /data/app/* /sdcard/backup/app/
cp -r /data/app-private/* /sdcard/backup/app-private/
This will create two folders on your SD card: app and app-private, both in a folder called Backup. It will then copy the entire contents of your /data/app and /data/app-private folders to your SD card.
After you do this, back up the entire contents of your SD card as normal.

Quadrant score was 917 and was on stock roms.....
Now Quad score is 2193 and still on stock roms.....

Oh, and for anyone wondering....
This appears to be the ext2 fix.

This IS the same fix from the otger thread, just packaged in update.zip format. Id be a bit more cautious using this one as it hasnt had as much testing among the I9000 crowd much less Captivate users.

Thanks for confirming this. I am seeing strong real world improvements, too. Dolphin Browser HD is very snappy and everything seems a lot faster (I am on stock captivate, btw, couldn't get this to work on I9000 for some reason).
Only thing is you should back up frequently because it can be corrupted a lot more easily since it is on ext2.

hm... i applied the update in clockwork mod recovery, i have super user and the correct busybox version installed and rebooted the system. i went to the app list and could not find the "MCR SCRIPT" you mentioned i should be seeing... am i doing something wrong?

THat is weird I saw mine in the apps list.... its just called MCR with a green dog bowl and light bulb....
Woops sorry for the truncation in the quote.... I have attached the update.zip file that you need to download.... The update.zip file you used is probably a ROM Manager Update.zip, so just rename it and copy the new update.zip file to the internal sd....

This isn't one step because I don't have the USB cable with me. I just had a USB adapter for the microsd and I can't boot into the linux loader correctly without the cable, so I used ROM Manager. It would have been easier if I did.

Yup it is but on the internal card. Are you sure its the same? Look at the OG thread, a LOT of people have tried it with great success....

How do you back it up?

i updated the zip and rebooted used busy box and i dont have that MCR app

Same instructions before, did you download the update.zip? I just added that instruction. Can you try again after that?

when you say put the update.zip into the phone... do i put it in the internal sd card root? or do i put it in the ROM MANAGER folder? when i choose apply update, it only gives me one option to update from: /sdcard/update.zip. i choose that it installs properly and i reboot. i still don't the app, lol.
i also have removed the the recovery-update.zip or renamed it and tried to reboot into recovery mode via ROM MANAGER but it doesn't let me do it because it can't find the zip. then i tried to put the update into the the ROM MANAGER folder and it says it can't the find update.

its still the same cant find the app i reboot to recovery apply sd card update.zip go to yes and it says installed reboot and its not there

Sorry for the bad reply.
Rename the update.zip that is already on the internal sd cards root because that is ROM Managers using ROOT Explorer
Then copy the update.zip that you downloaded to the external SD card.
Then copy update.zip from the external sd card to the internal sd cards root.
Then use ROM Manager to reboot into the linux loader.

hm... the only update.zip i have is in the Recovery Mod folder named: recovery-update.zip. the only update.zip i have in the sdcard root is the update.zip i downloaded from the your url and have been applying that as the update. i seem to be having the same problem as Bionicboto.
should i have the rom manager's update.zip in there also or it doesn't matter? and i also have no external sd card. is that something i need in order to get this update working properly?

Did you ever perform a backup with the ROM Manager? That usually creates a update.zip.....
Basically when I log into root explorer and click on SDCARD.... you should see the update.zip in that folder along with Android folder, busybox folder, clockworkmod folder, DCIM folder, downloads folder, etc etc....

i preformed a backup right before i did all this. i did notice the update.zip in there. i took it out and put in the update.zip you uploaded. do i need both in there?

Nope... Try this... with ROM Manager,
Choose Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery and that will recreate the boot files for ROM Manager.... and also backup your current ROM again.
Then try the steps again.

[09 JAN][KERNEL][DEV] Clockwork Recovery kernel installer script

IT IS RECOMMENDED TO DO A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING!​
What this is: This is simply an easy script to update your kernel via Clockwork Recovery, no ADB commands or mounting within Android involved.
To flash:
Download one of the kernels below.
Copy to the root of your SD card.
Boot into Clockwork Recovery.
Select install update from SD card.
Navigate to the ZIP file you copied.
Flash and reboot!
To create a ZIP like this:
Extract the template zip file. (attached)
Navigate to the boot folder and put your zImage in there. (optionally you can also place an initrd.gz)
Navigate to the system/lib/modules and place all your .ko files in there.
Archive the file again to a zip file and redistribute.
Example kernels:
[09 JAN][KERNEL] -=MDJ=- s10 [OC1536-SMARTASS-CIFS-CFS-UTF8]
[02 JAN][KERNEL][RMNET][SMARTASS][G-Sensor Fix] prj's kernel v0.3
Notes:
Probably won't work on builds that have squashfs'ed /system as it won't be able to install modules.
The kernels above do not replace your initrd.gz. Only your zImage and .ko files in /system/lib/modules.

It if first time I'm trying to use Clockwork Recovery to update.
After choosing .zip it asks for pre-installation backup and wipe.
I'm choosing only backup.
It says"push ok in order to reboot and continue installation".
I'm doing that, it reboots to recovery and what?
No changes.

- Launch Clockwork
- Select the other install menu ("Install zip from sdcard" instead of "apply update")

Honestly, this is easy as 123, and such request always come from people who never search.
Sorry about the rant, but i didn't invent the plane myself, and however i'm still astonished about all the prowess i can do just by looking for myself.

[Q] How to install a rom via clockwork recovery?

As I've said before,I'm working on a custom rom.But since the system.img is extracted in a folder called system,I want to install it via clockwork.But everytime I try to install zip from sd card I get an error.Am I doing something wrong?

Do you have the updater-script (or update-script) in the META-INF>com>google>android folder? Also check it for errors (make sure that all of the commands are written correctly)

Jack, is there a tutorial anywhere that shows us how to install a rom via CW recovery?
It seems I too have the same issue as fdespotovski being: How to install a rom via clockwork recovery?
GreenDroid and SYNERGY both dont use sytem.img but rather a system folder.
Can install other roms like Joe Stones or CM7 fine or by command line with .img files or others with KDZ updater, yet these ones with CW Recovery seem to be lacking tutorials on where and how to do this installation in simple language.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

How to you mean, you want to install the .zip ROM. You will need to copy the update .zip file to your SDCard. Then, in Clockwork, select "Install .zip from sdcard" and choose "choose zip from sdcard" and then select the .zip you copied to your sdcard. It should begin installing the ROM. Then 'wipe data/factory reset' Reboot the phone. There, ROM is installed.

I think the problem is, I dont have clockworkmod installed on my phone as when I use an app called Rom Manager it gives an option called Flash CWM Recovery yet nothing happens when I select that so obviously I need to install that.
Any good tut's on now to install that, whilst using Joe Stones version 2.3.2?

Yeah, ROM Manager doesn't work with our phone, yet. But here is how to flash it on your device (without fastboot)
Download Clockwork Mod 2.5.1.8 from here.
Next, install YaffsExpert from the Market. (It's free ) Open it and in the first dropdown box, choose "Restore" and in the next, select "Recovery" press "Browser" next to the Operation File field. Select the recovery.img file. Make sure the "Target Device Model" is set to "All other" then press "Operation" wait for it to finish.Next, install YaffsExpert from the Market. (It's free ) Open it and in the first dropdown box, choose "Restore" and in the next, select "Recovery" press "Browser" next to the Operation File field. Select the recovery.img file. Make sure the "Target Device Model" is set to "All other" then press "Operation" wait for it to finish.
There, Recovery is installed

Thanks yet again there Jack, very kind of you to continually reply.
I have that version of clock work, as I have many of the the 3.x.x series as well so dont need to download that, but does it matter which one we install? I see there is now a clockwork v4 and one with an auto installer as shown by Dudeman at a Swifdroid blog he has posted.
So will it matter which CWR I use? or is it very specific?
I have also just updated to Cyanogen RC0 which is I seem to be able to do fine as well as installing Joe Stones rom too. But not the ones that need to install from zip.
Speaking of downloads, well guess what, this brings me to another problem I have
(and one I have always had) which is for the life of me, I cannot understand why I cannot download from Market.
Meaning, I also have some webspace of my own I can down and install apps or .apk files just fine, yet although when I go to market, and click on install, agree and install, the app then says downloading and takes me to the page prior to the app page.
I then go back to the app page to see whats happening and it continually says "Starting download" but will stay like this forever never changing as it will not ever download. Nor will it for any file on or from Market.
Why the heck is this? Tell ya, this has me cursed it has, and has limited me from doing many things that others are doing on their GT540.
Any more info regarding this would be most appreciated.

I have done this and I cannot boot into recovery mode my phone just starts up in safe mode ?
I also have tried to flash using terminal.
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
but i just get a message saying no permitions
Ive copied the Flash_image file into system/bin
any ideas im trying to flash a recovery so i can flash 2.3.3 without fast boot or a pc

[ANDROID] ClockworkMod Permanent Installation Fix! - Step by Step Instructions

I have figured out a way to permanently install ClockworkMod Recovey on your hybrid WebOS/CyanogenMod Touchpad. Like many of you, my ClockworkMod installation failed when I tried to install using ACMEInstaller while I also installed CyanogenMod.
I realize there is now a workaround to "inject" ClockworkMod into your TP using novacom however this requires you to utilize a computer everytime you want to boot ClockworkMod. Follow the instructions below to install ClockworkMod onto your TP permanently and free yourself from your PC!
1. Boot into WebOS
2. Mount TP to your computer and create a "cminstall" folder if it no longer exists after your CyanogenMod installation
3. Copy the "update-cwm_tenderloin-1012.zip" file into the "cminstall" directory, then unmount TP from computer
4. Download the "Internalz Pro" program using the "Preware" application in WebOS if you haven't already (Google is your friend if you get stuck here)
5. Open "Internalz Pro" and navigate to the "boot" menu (will most likely require you to tap the top-most icon of a folder with two dots next to it to get to the root of the TP - should be second folder down)
6. Tap on the file "uImage.ClockworkMod" and select "move"
7. Navigate to the "media/internal/" directory and click "select" to move file
8. Now tap on the file "update-uimage" and move the file to the same "internal" directory you did in step #7
9. Exit from "Internalz Pro" and reboot device while holding down the up volume key, which will take you in to WebOS Recovery (or select WebOS Recovery when you get to the moboot screen you may have previously installed) - you should now see a large USB icon and should be connected to your computer using a usb cable
10. Go to your command prompt in Windows and navigate to the menu where you have novacom installed - you should also have the ACMEInstaller binary file copied into this directory by now (If you don't know what I'm talking about, remember Google is your friend)
11. Type in "novacom boot mem:// < ACMEInstaller" in the command line and press enter
12. You should now see ClockworkMod recovery installing on your TP - Once it reboots into moboot select "boot ClockworkMod" and watch it boot into ClockworkMod!
13. After celebrating, boot back into WebOS, go into "Internalz Pro" and move the file "update-uimage" back into the "boot" directory - the "uImage.ClockworkMod" file that you put in the "Internal" directory is no longer needed since you reinstalled ClockworkMod properly
Essentially the boot directory was overloaded which caused for insufficient space when installing ClockworkMod. Now you should be able to boot into WebOS, CyanogenMod, WebOS, AND ClockworkMod Recovery without a computer. As always, I do not take responsibility for you bricking your TP or variability you may have... use this information if it is helpful but don't blame me if something goes wrong. I'm just trying to help out the community that has helped me for so long.

but i've run into a problem, see, now i don't have the option to boot into cyanogenmod anymore !
can i flash it in clockworkmod, or do i have to do it all over again?

you most likely copied the wrong file from the boot folder, as there was one for clockworkmod and one for cyanogen mod... look and see if you incorrectly copied the cyanogenmod "uImage.CyanogenMod" to your internal sd card to free up space. You will have to move this back to the boot folder and grab the other one.

Yes, I just mean that you don't have to "inject" clockworkmod into your TP using your computer which was the workaround for the people who couldn't get it installed originally during the CyanogenMod installation. This just installs it properly but can be wiped with WebOS Doctor like anything else...

Yeap... it will not delete a single bit of CM7, just gonna restore the original bootloaders, delete moboot and skip CWM /Android on boot...
Running again ACME with only moboot and CWM in the cminstall folder will restore them.
....After WebOS doctor... it will show CM7 as the last time you shut it down.

I followed directions exactly but I am not seeing the uImage.clockwork in the boot folder. Any suggestions? I see that file in the cminstall folder, do I just leave in there or should I copy directly to media\internal?

The "uImage.ClockworkMod" may not be in the boot directory I suppose if the previous install attempts didn't put it there so not sure why it isn't in yours. Essentially you are just trying to move some of the larger files out of that directory so you can install ClockworkMod properly as the space constraint of the partition size seems to be the issue. The other file I mentioned, "update-uimage", is actually the largest one I found and you may be able to do the ClockworkMod install properly by only removing that one temporarily. Let us know if you are able to resolve.

I've installed clockworkmod recovery with no errors on the first try, is it advisable that I need to use this method?

I was installing cwm for the first time. I didn't include it originally with the install of cyanogen mod, I guess that's why it wasn't in the boot folder. I placed both files in the media\internal directory and also inside the cminstall folder and ran the command and it worked fine. When I checked internalz pro to remove the files, the cminstall folder and uimage files were gone already. So it looks like I am good to go. cwm is working, I flashed gapps from it. Thanks for reply.
Now I just need to figure out how to make phone calls.

If you installed ClockworkMod completely the first time and it works, then you definitely don't need to do this as this thread was intended for those that tried to install it at the same time as when they installed CyanogenMod and ClockworkMod Recovery didn't install properly. These instructions are to outline how to get it installed correctly as just trying again using ACMEInstaller wasn't working for anyone due to the small size left in the boot directory.

Not sure why you can't access the market...no issues here. I would suggest reinstalling the gapps zip file and possible the market fix file that are out there now that you have clockworkmod working properly.

Not sure why "move" isn't available for you... its been a while since I installed Preware and Internalz Pro so I must have gotten root access somehow and that's why it shows up for me and others. I'd suggest searching for how to obtain root access to WebOS to find your answer... possibly development mode if you haven't already done that but I thought that was required to get Preware installed in the first place.

I have the same problem. Move/delete commands are available on the media/internals but on boot folder move is not available.

After Opening "Internalz Pro", Open "Preferences", scroll down to the bottom. You will see an option called "Master mode". Turn it on. You will get read/write access to the boot folder.

[Q] first time root and flash

ok so there are so meny threads and videos around about rooting and flashing a new rom, my proplem is that i am not an expert, they all give different info,programs to use ect... im a little nervous that i might use the wrong program or miss something and wind up with a brick...
i am using an acer a501 running android v 3.2
so if i understand correctly i need to.....
1.revert back to andriod 3.0.1 (not sure how yet)
2. download iconiaroot1.3, unzip, copy it to sd card (settings set to allow unknown and debug on)
3.install iconiaroot on tablet
4. open and run iconiaroot
5. now rooted
im i correct? did i miss something?

6. Before installing custom ROM you will need to install Acer Recovery Installer and flash custom recovery.

Root A501
Download a file manager if you don't already have once such as astro file manager or es file explorer. Also download Acer Recovery. Download both of these from the market.
Step 1. To downgrade to 3.0.1 to be able to root first thing you want to do is download this file here

Step 2. Once downloaded it copy the update.zip file into the root file of your sd card. the root folder on the sd card is in the tablets internal memory not an external sd card.
Step3. Turn off the tablet and once turned off press and hold the power button and volume down button. Don't release until you see the green andriod with the gears moving.
Step 4. Once tablet has booted back up check to see which version the tablet is running. To Check go to settings....about tablet...and underneath android version make sure the tablet is running 3.0.1
Step 5. If the tablet is running 3.0.1 then download this file.

Step 6. Download iconiaroot-1.3.apk
Step 7. Before opening iconiaroot make sure in settings....applications that unknown sournces is checked then click development and make sure usb debugging is checked.
Step 8. Now open iconia root and hit root.
Step 9. Run acer recovery
Step 10. Select clockworkmod recovery and instal recovery image.
Step 11. Click this link

Step 12. Once downloaded you will have 1 zip file. Rename it update.zip and transfer it do the tablets sd card.
Step 13. Turn the tablet off. Then press power and volume down to run cwm.
Step 14. Once at cwm screen use the volume buttons to go up and down. go down and instal from sd card and hit power to select it. Then select apply sdcard/update.zip then select yes and it will instal
Step 15. Once update is done go back and click reboot system now
Step 16 Go to settings about tablet and double check your updated.
Step 17. Have Fun!!!!

Hey I am trying to root my acer, and ive followed all of these directions up until step 11.. The honey.zip file tht is provided isnt installing. Ive tried installing from the internal sd and the external sd with no luck, I think the file itself may be corrupt. Do I NEED to do this update before I can flash a custom rom?

It looks that Honey.zip IS a custom ROM (don't know for sure).
You're rebooting into recovery and trying to install from sdcard?
Are you receiving any errors? What exactly is happening?

Don't bother renaming to update.zip.... Just select "Install zip from sd card" in CWM...
And no, you can use ANY custom rom at that point...

Remember to wipe all data before flashing
cache - dalvik- battery stats -flexrom etc. etc.
Obviously, you should backup your data previously and then you can restore them
