Hi, Asorry got the dumb questions in advance). yeah well I'm new to the whole android os and I heard this is the website to be on for everything android related.
I'm just wondering,
how hard is it to hack my wildfire and what can I do with it once its hacked?
Also, my friend has a custom ROM called 'MIUI' or something along the lines of that... And I'm wondering, will I be able to get this ROM on my phone?
Last question - what are the downsides (if any) to hacking my phone? Thanks.

Hi!
Thanks for this forum folks.
Ive rooted yesterday, when i got my phone. Now im thinking about trying a new rom.
Is it hard to install? Does pictures and apps disappear from my sd card?
Please give me some hints for this. Where i need to read, and how i do this.
I also read about ROM manager.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639153
Does that mean you dont have to fix in the recovery mode etc....
Thanks
I'm also interested in this subject. I haven't rooted my phone yet and I'm wondering which rom (custom and official) is the best ??
I'm in the same boat, just got my legend a few days ago and will be rooting it soon. I have very little space on my device so I want something with sense but not all the extra garbage that comes bundled with it.
I'm loving the phone but since its my first android I need a little guidance
P. S. I got swift key beta and its effing amazing!

Same here. Rooter 2 days ago. I read a lot about custom roms and procedure to load but am a bit confused. Small summary would be hight apreciated.
Can u flash a new radio with Android on nand or must we go back to win mobile first?
Can we install android roms from a 16gb micro sd and not just 8gb and below in mag?
Is it safe to change system files without us having a recovery mode, or do we? Or is there a way to restore without having to reflash if you mess up?

Ill answer your question with a question....
Why do you choose to ask a question in the dev release forum when we have a QUESTIONS forum???
I wish I had mod privileges
Answer the question if u can, if not stfu. I'm not a newbie and I knew exactly wat I was doing, the purpose was to get a quicker response but I knew the thread would be moved eventually. Find something else meaningful to do with ur life

Yes, you can flash radio from botloader. I just did that today.
Hi, so a guy from work asked if i would put android on his phone (hd2). He asked because I own a Samsung Vibrant and I was able to root and flash and have been doing so for a while. i have tried to get android working on his phone, but when i click on the haret file it says that the certificate was dumb or something similar to that and asked me to reinstall. Not sure what i am doing wrong. if someone would be so kind to help me threw putting an android os on his phone that would be outstanding. (sd android is what i was going for). lol. i dont even know if im wording this right.
For running Android from SD on an Offical WM ROM, that is normal. Just okay the warning messge and the Android will boot.
In order to get rid of the warning, you either have to flash with a custom WM ROM or better yet flash an Android ROM.
Alrighty. Thank you for the response.

If you want Android on your HD2 you should just go for flashing to NAND rather then keeping windows (unless he still needs windows).
Is flashing to nand pretty easy to do? Yeah he doesn't care for windows so im sure he wont care. I mean I can do the research to figure it out too but advice is more than welcome.

You need to have hspl 2.08 and a radio that is 2.12 or higher.
Hey all:
I just got a G Tablet a couple of weeks back and I put Vegan 5.1 on it. I don't have a smart phone but am getting one. I think the LG GT540 Optimus is the one I am going with. I have taken a quick look at the how to's for this phone and I noticed a how to for something called Eclaire 2.1 and a different thread for "custom 2.1/2.2/2.3". Which one should I go with. Do you know if either would allow me to tether with my G tab? thanks in advance
If you're really interested in tethering, better you buy Optimus One (P500) as it has tethering support in its stock ROM itself. Considering GT540, Mur4ik has already done with Wifi tethering. If you won't mind waiting for perfectly working tethering, then you can have GT540.
But I won't recommend it if you are just interested in tethering. Rather buy any phone that has Official 2.2/2.3 support.
Some recommendations like LG Optimus One, HTC Wildfire, Samsung Galaxy 3 (they both are upgradeable to 2.2).
thank you..
Can't really find your 3 recommendations at a similar price point as the GT540. Are you saying if i put the 2.1 eclaire and root the phone, tethering isn't currently working?
if you want a cheap android phone get the gt540 and upgrade it to the latest CM7 build that has WiFi tether support enabled and if you do get it make a swap partition on the sd card because i am making a softmod rom and it will have a few tweaks included for performance speed and battery
Ok. Just bought it. Partitioned many internal and external drives using windows but never done an sd through android. I'm sure its not so bad. Are the instructions for that cm7 on the forums some where? Thnx for the reply
yeah look at the how to thread in the dev section. it will help you mod your phone.

I read somewhere that you should upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2, then to 2.3. Is this true or can i go from 2.1 to 2.3 directly?
Also. I see a video on how to install cm7. What would be the prereqs, install fastboot and root the phone or?
If you want I can remote control your PC tomorrow to upgrade your phone for you?
appreciate it!!! but I actually get more enjoyment learning and performing this stuff than I do actually using the phone. Let me give it a try, if i can't I'll let you know. Haven't got the phone yet either. It will be shipped over the next few days or so
no problem just take the time to study the guides while the phone is being shipped.

Been reading some and there is a lot of info. I have a question. Can I just follow the instructions provided here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12898827&postcount=3 , going to 2.1, 2.2 and so on(can i go to CM7 directly)?
or is there anything else needed to be done too, like rooting etc?
all you need to do is flash a fastboot 2.1 rom then boot into fastboot and direct flash to cm7 if you want.

Thnx all. I will as soon as i get the phone
Thanks for the infos. I'll try them
Any rom that supports tethering should do.
I'd recommend 2.1 with Quarx kernel

Hey All: Got the phone yesterday. I think I installed everything last night. Had some issues, though I bricked the phone a few times.
There is one weird thing. When I shutdown the phone. I press power to restart, it does this quick vibrate, then does nothing for like 30 secs, this is where i thought he phone was messed, but then it starts up. not sure what's up?
One more quick thing, how do you get into recovery mode, cause I think i need to do one of those factory resets after install right? thanx
Hi...
I was lucky enough to get my glacier exchanged for a new one due to problems I am having with wifi.
My question is... So that I minimize any problems with this exchange, to what extent should I return the phone in its original condition (not hardware, but rather software firmware). I was planning in reimaging it with the original htc sense which was on it when I bought it (using CM7 now), but would there be anything else?
Do you think it would be that important to "un-root" it?
Also, given that this is a new replacement mt4g, am I going to have any problems getting root again? I seem to remember that they modified the bootloader so as to make rooting this phone a much bigger pain in the ass.
My current mt4g is rooted fully with radio at 000000 (our whatever...I cannot remember offhand what it is called but it was fully rooted).
Thanks!

Put it back to stock everything.

I've gotten away with just flashing back to the stock rooted 2.2 mySense ROM. Done it like 5 times with no problems. Good luck.
If it was me I would unroot it just to avoid unwanted attention, but I guess you could use mySense so it looks normal.
In all likelihood, they won't check the phone or penalize you for modifying it, but it's probably safer to just unroot it completely. On the off chance that they refuse the exchange because you've "voided the warranty" or whatnot, it's just better to fully return it to factory settings.
Thanks to all who replied. I think I am going to reimage the phone with the latest update from t-mobile (found in this forum) as I read here that it will unroot your phone.
I just got the phone and am now dreading the transfer. First thing I need to do is root it. However, it has been 9 months since I did this on my original phone and I know their have been changes to both the phone and improvements to rooting it.
I tried searching, but I don't know which method is best. Is there anyway I can tell from looking at the replacement phone if there is a change in the bootloader or firmware version-- or any info at all which might help me determine the easiest way to root this new mt4g
Or, in the alternative, just a suggestion to use a specific method and not worry about it? I have adb installed so if necessary, I can use that.
