[Q] Anyone flash a Bell/Rogers Tab yet? - Galaxy Tab General

I'm curious because I'd like to flash mine, but don't think we can go back to our build (P1000MUGJJ7, wtf i know).
Bell Galaxy Tab.

I recall reading of a couple successes in the Galaxy Tab General forum.
This thread I believe: (page 13 rgbc reports success)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847273
No going back to stock, as far as I have read, but things move quick here

As far as I know at this point there are no Bell roms floating around but if you feel comfortable flashing, read the first few pages of the ATT flash thread, get comfortable with Odin, it was a bit of a different flashing experience for me coming from HTC phones, give it a day or two to make sure everything is fine with the hardware (I took my first tab back to Futureshop for exchange 24 hours later as it had/developed a burnt pixel right in the middle of the screen) and then flash away.
The Bell rom doesn't really offer anything that the Euro rom doesn't, whereas the Euro rom enables the phone features on your Tab, the speakerphone is excellent btw.
Quick question re your unmodified Tab, when you launch Swype does it have a Voice button on the keyboard, I cannot remember if it did or if I'm confusing it with the Swype kb on my Nexus, which does.

Thanks. I wanted to flash so I can get the arabic words to show properly, hoping we'd get an official firmware first. I bought mine from Bell.
In regards to Swype, there is a Voice/Mic button, but for some reason it's greyed out now, can't use it. Even though voice search works perfectly everywhere else.

What bell apps would you like to keep?
I see no reason to keep bell apps on the tab anyway - I have no PVR
So why would you want to flash it back?

Self Serve app is pretty cool app, but I think it downloaded the APK heh, but the reason is i'm just worried in case I need a working ROM to fallback to.

Care to point me to that Bell Self Serve APK? I flashed mine to Euro before I even tried that application.
Some version of the Bell firmware will show up on samfirmwares.com before long, once it gets out to the service centers which are usually their source for firmware binaries.
For instance, it was about ten days after the Bell Vibrant launched before any factory firmware showed up (and it was older, pre-release firmware), but the original "JG9" found on Bell units at launch day has never showed up (current JH2 is there though).
You can always fall back to the AT&T firmware, which is available just to get you up and running pretty close to stock again, but of course that might cause problems if you want to reflash it before sending it in for warranty.
Something else to keep in mind (but try not to abuse please) is the 30 day DOA period from Bell kind of covers your ass if you totally screw something up and brick it for real. Provided they have a replacement in stock.

Thanks for the info Croak. That was pretty helpful.
About the Self Serve app, I realized there was a link initially that took me to the market to download the app, http://www.appbrain.com/app/bell-self-serve/com.bellmo.selfserve, I'm not sure if this shows up for you. I'm still dabbling in adb, so I'm not sure how to get the apk off the device just yet :/
Note: The self serve app only works on 3G, not wifi. That would explain how it knows to my account info automatically.

I forgot ask something, in regards to the Market, will regional apps still show after flashing non-north american firmware? For example, the TD Canada Trust bank app. I remember I had issues with the MIUI on my N1 because it was a Chinese ROM. Eventually it was fixed though.

Hi xoltrix2000.
I also have the Bell SGT, but have no phone option what so ever :-(. Have the hardware appearently, but no way of using it. Are you able to use the phone option on your SGT? If so, how did you manage to get it?
Thanks for any info.

Since then I flashed the P1000JPJJ2 arabic firmware with no issues so far. It has the phone capabilities obviously just like any of the euro firmwares, tested it by using another phone line enabled sim card.

Thanks for your reply xoltrix2000. Good to know that it actually works. I'll have to read up a bit on the 'how to', get all the needed software and then try it myself.

I currently have a SGT with a custom JM6 and a modem which gives my full data and voice call capability. I posted instructions on this in the general area.

UK succesful update through kies hack.

I have just done the registry hack and got JPM through kies without a glitch.
It took me literally 2 minutes to do the registry and then just let kies download and install the update through the normal method.
I have not lost any apps / data.
My connection over 3g and sms and wifi is working fine.
All google accounts are intact.
I updated from JM1 to JPM.
If any UK users are having any worries about doing this i can tell you that it ran perfectly for me.
I would recommend the method but dont blame me if something did go wrong lol. Do so at your own discretion.
Did it change your product code?
Did the same as you 2 hours ago and it running like a dream!
I'm really tempted to give this a shot but after reading about a possible brick form another UK user, I think I'll wait until Samsung UK officially rolls out the update.

how I've searched the forums but can only find the registry hack for the i9000m
us UK galaxy is named as just i9000 right?
and what difference are there between JPM to JPA to JP6? They all run froyo don't they?
Can someone please upload some MP4 HD video so we can see how it looks now and is it close to the iPhone 4 quality ?
Tnx

Sorry im new around here, what you mean by normal method ?
Just tried it, a bit nerve wracking during that looooooong (well, it seemed long) reboot but its brilliant now. GPS a lot better, flash playing, the pinch to see all 7 home screens etc. Very happy!
FYI I am on an unbranded SGS with a vodafone contract (bought through phones for you).
PS the RAM monitor in the samsung task manager only shows 304 meg of RAM. I remember reading somewhere that FROYO uses all 512 meg, is the difference because of chunks reserved by the OS for stuff?
After an incredibly long boot, I have successfully updated my JM1 unbranded phone using this method
Nothing at all was wiped and the market etc. worked perfectly without me doing anything - the entire process went very smoothly.

By normal method i mean after you have changed the kies registry you just go back into kies and click on pgrade firmware and install 2.2 as you would with any firmware through kies.
Glad its worked for the rest of you guys too.
It is a little bit nerve racking lol but its worth it and as long as you do everything correctly you should have no problem at all.
The people that HAVE had trouble are mostly people that have forgotten to take the lagfix off their phones before starting the update... Even if it was the UK version and they went for the upgrade without taking off the lagfix it would still cause problems to the phone.
Vow, I thought hd video quality cant be better than this, for a phone..

Does anyone have a change log for the update anywhere??
I DESPERATELY need this update to fix my alarm clock but if it doesn't the phone is going back as I'm sick of being late for things due to having no morning alarm! (The clock on my SGS stops updating when the gphone goes to sleep hence I get no morning alarm!)
all worked too easily for me

Complete directions can be found here
I'm on Orange and am waiting until it's officially released Via Kies. Only reason being, that I phoned them when I discovered the GPS problems and told them if it wasn't fixed in the firmware update, I'd be asking for a different phone.
Point being, just be sure you aren't going to void your warranty using the Reg hack.

Im on orange UK and updated via the reg hack without any issues apart from no longer being able to send MMS even after setting up correct APN...

Was your handset debranded and/or unlocked at the point of updating?
FYI
Spoke to the Orange Customer Service team today. He confirmed that Froyo should see a full release over Kies by the second week of December.
Even though it won;t fix my GPS issues, at least I'll be able to copy and pasts from Emails!

Thanks for that info logicalstep- Shall believe it when we get it though....
haha yeah I know what you mean.
My phones also being replaced tomorrow to see if I can get one with a working GPS. I have told them that I'm prepared to go through their whole stock until I find one that works
Either that or give me a white one, that way I know it's a more recent manufacture and will hopefully have the GPS fixed.
Wish me luck.
Logicalstep
Good Luck!
Hate to boast but my GPS works really well ...
Really?
What's the longest journey you have been on? and have you deviated from the set course?
This is when I see it at it's worst.
Just for you information as well, it seems a bit strange to me. The replacement phone they have sent it a cross between Eclair and Froyo. It says 2.1 update in the software screen, but it has a GPS button and new task manager? Bit stange
It also comes with more Orange Crapware. And here's a slightly interesting thing. On my first SGS, I noticed it had a kind of springy sound inside, if you gave it a light flick it would have the very slight reverberation, as if there was a spring inside that was attached only at one end. The new one doesn't have any such sound / feeling to it.
I wonder if there is a connection to the GPS being crap on the first device?
I'll do a proper test of the next few days and report back.

My SGS firmware/software exactly as yours is-only got it 6 weeks ago.
Havent been any vast distance on gps but mucked up with it seeing how fast it picks up satellites, trying it out on localish roads and turning off bypasses for example the exit before it tells me too (cos I know the roads) it generally has worked out the route by the time Im on the roundabout at the top of the slip road. Bearing in mind Im in a Transit usually so not moving that fast to start with... Does all I need, and well. Apps like Layar work well too.
Hopefully for you this version sorts out the hassle with GPS.
I did a track back from Footie tonight, only 5 miles, but it seemed good!
No jumping about, although I did have the updates set slow-ish. Will try with Google navigation on Friday, have an hours drive to do.

Samsung I9000M 2.2NL Help..

I hate to post a thread like this, but after searching and basically pulling my hair out, I've decided it was time.
Anyway, as title suggests I have an I9000m with the 2.2 UGJL2 *Typo in title, sorry!!*
Heres the problem with the phone...
Its a bell phone, unrooted or modified. Its running 2.2 JL2. When used with an bell SIM it will dial out and receive, receive texts, send them. However it won't receive picture messages, well it receives but just says downloading (and the plan does have it)
It also won't connect to the mobile network. If I manually set APN it does, but then its ability to call out is brutal for some reason. Also I threw my virgin mobile sim in it, set apn and it would go onto the internet no problem, but calling and text suffered big time.
It also seems to lag huge all the time, it'll freeze, you hit the center button and it just takes screen shots.
Its a refurb phone if that helps. Its actually my gfs phone, I picked her up a HTC incredible S... she says if we can fix the old one she kinda wants the samsung back.
Any help would be appreciated.
Mike
Have you tried a factory reset to see if that fixes the problems? That would be the best starting point.

Been done twice. Also have had two new sim cards installed aswell. I figured before I tried rooting it would be best to consult you guys. Is it possible that there's a hardware issue?
Thanks
Mike
Based on your description it doesn't sound like a hardware issue, but no way to know for sure.
I think your next best bet would be to try reflashing JL2 (or KC1 even) using Odin; as long as you can get to download mode via the 3 button combo. If you're still having problems after that then probably it is hardware.

Got er fixed. After I put the phone down and enjoyed a beer for a bit, I went back and basically wiped the phone clean, I think I did it 3 times in a row, using both the 3 button download mode one, and two different ones than can be accessed via the dialer. After doing that I retryed the APN settings again and ALAS it finally worked correctly. Its now connecting to the HSDPA and is also downloading MMS messages like it should. Its also yet to lag again. I'm assuming it was an app that was causing that aswell.
Regardless, the misses is happy, I might keep the Incredible S (currently have the HTC legend, lovely phone, but it does feel under powered compared to the I9000 and the Incredible S)
Sometimes I think a guy has gotta step back and relax for a minute lol!!
Thanks again

Cannot update PRL or Profile Error codes

So for a while now I have not been able to update my PRL or Profile. It hasn't bothered me because for the most part the phone has worked fine until recently. A friend texted me and said he was going to call me. He text back a few minutes later and ask why I didnt answer. Phone was next to me the whole time and it didnt ring or so any kind of notification that he had tried to call. Took him 3 calls before my phone rang and he got through.
I have applied for a few jobs within the past few weeks and have heard nothing from anyone which I am surprised because I was referred to one company by and friend who put in a good word for me and said that his supervisors were really impressed with my resume. So now I feel like this issue could possibly be costing me job opportunities and I want to get it figured out.
The errors are 6602 and 407. I've tried to do it over 4G and put my phone just in CDMA mode for 3G only and get the 407 code for 3G and the 6602 over 4G.
I am running Stock rooted/odexed MK2 and I just did a clean flash of the rom again clearing data/cache and dalvik seeing if that would help which it didn't. I have reflashed the modem seperately also with no help.
I have seen many threads of others having this issue but no answers on a fix. Has anyone experienced this and actually done something that has resolved the issue?
If you feel it may be costing you a job, why not flash a nand of a stock rom, assuming you have one

I did, I flashed back to MF9 using this http://www.rwilco12.com/Files/Devic...H-L720)/Stock ROMs/MF9/Full Restore/Unrooted/
Which should be a stock factory restore, still would not update profile or prl. From there I updated to NG2 with Samsung Kies and I am still not able to update either.

What kernel do you use?
(I fixed this issue I my phone, but SERIOUSLY, what seemed to fix it MADE NO SENSE, so I'm not going to to relate it again, you can look up my posts if you want, but I wouldn't waste your time. I'm more interested in what kernel you are using... if it isn't KT-SGS4, then it doesn't matter.)
Other than that, have you tried the ##72786# dialer code, which is supposed to reset that stuff (didn't fix it for me personally)? You may have to reactivate your phone though (I did), which isn't that much of an issue...

For kernel version it shows 3.4.0-2162929 which I'm guessing is the stock NG2. I haven't flashed anything else since updating through Kies to NG2.
I've done the 72786 dial code a handful of times and it still didn't help. The only thing that solved was a issue I had after I first updatd to NG2 I had no working 4G. Phone would only connect to 3G and that was when it was in CDMA only mode. Aside from that it hasn't helped with the PRL/Profile update issue I'm having.

Yeah, that does sound like a stock kernel to me. Have you tried updating it through the Sprint Zone app? In Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Network Mode, if it is not set to Automatic, you can try setting it to that and see if it lets you update after reboot, I have heard that can help but did not fix it for me (I have it set to LTE/CDMA). Have you seen this thread: Galaxy S4/Note 3/Mega - Update Profile/PRL/HFA Fix for Sprint/Boost/Virgin Mobile/etc? It is complex (don't IGNORE steps 5, 6, 7 and 8, which most people in the thread seem to...). I have not personally used this method, I was planning to before my issue resolved itself, but I didn't have a donor GS4 either (damn it, I JUST remembered that I DO, I f*ed up the USB port on my first one and completely forgot about that! BLOW MY MIND! But anyways...).

Yeah, I honestly don't really understand what that thread means when it talks about flashing to legacy accounts. I believe I have a SERO account (I don't know, my wife pays the bill... :silly: ) and the updates worked fine until I think messing with the APNs to try to fix my inability to send MMS messages messed things up. I never flashed any legacy accounts or anything.
So... at this point, even though IT MAKES NO SENSE, I will tell you what SEEMED to fix the issue for me. I STRESS, this MAKES NO SENSE TO ME, but after months of being unable to update my PRL/PROFILE, after doing the following, I was suddenly able to update them. It is likely an EXTREME coincidence, but for the hell of it I will now tell you.
Using the Pro version of Solid Explorer, I copied the Carrier folder from the root of my phone to my external SD card. THAT IS IT. YES... THAT IS IT. NOTHING MORE. I did NOT copy it back, I did not change anything. HOW this could possibly have cured the problem would seem to make very little sense, I can only conjecture that Solid Explorer, in the act of copying the folder to my external SD card, somehow 'refreshed' something in the carrier folder in the root of my phone... and I am grasping at straws here. I think you can probably understand WHY I did not want to reveal that this is what SEEMED to cure my issue, because it is so unlikely, and more likely an extreme coincidence and something else happened that I am not aware of, but that is the only thing I know of that I did related between when it was not working to when it was. So now you know at least (and as I have told a few others, there is no point in not trying, other than the crushing disappointment of it almost certainly not working)...
I should add as well however, now that it occurs to me, that I use the KT-SGS4 KitKat 4.4 TouchWiz kernel, and had for a long time suffered from a loss of mobile connection and GPS. requiring a reboot to get them back (within a similar time period to my PRL/PROFILE issues). I seem to have fixed the mobile connection/GPS loss by choosing the 'correct' governor to use with that kernel for my ROM, and it is not IMPOSSIBLE that THIS occurred at the time I was able to update my PRL/PROFILE, but I do not remember exactly, and I'm PRETTY CERTAIN I still had the issue with the mobile connection/GPS loss after updating my PRL/PROFILE, so I think that likely rules out KT-SGS4 as a culprit in this issue. (But then, I was forgetting that we already established that you were on a stock kernel...)

Yeah that copying the carrier folder don't seem like it would do anything but maybe I'll give it a try. Whats the best way to root right now? I just want to make sure it will let me unroot the phone if it dont work and no trip knox incase I have to bring this in.
Do you know what bootloader you are on? You said you were on Sys MK2, then went back to MF9 and now are on NG2. When you went to NG2, unless you took very specific steps to keep the MF9 bootloader, you would be on the NG2 bootloader now, which includes Knox, and you can no longer go back beyond NAE I think. If you don't know what bootloader you have, get DeviceInfo https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jphilli85.deviceinfo from the Play Store and under the Software heading, see what it shows for the last 3 digits for Bootloader. This makes a difference on the best root method.

Bootloader and software version both show up as NG2 on Device Info.

I'm not an EXPERT on this subject, but if you are on NG2 stock unrooted right now, I believe you can use: CF-Auto-Root to root it. Or, here is a stock rooted version of the NG2 ROM:
[ROM][NG2] Stock Rooted NG2 (which mentions that it has Knox removed).
As far as tripping stuff, I'm somewhat unsure about that to be honest. I have always used Triangle Away on my phone, but it has a warning now not to use it with a custom kernel (which I use). My counter is at 3, but I am out of warranty anyway.
I spent a few hours on chat with Sprint. They couldn't figure it out so I'm bringing it in tomorrow. Guessing I'll get a new phone. The people at the Sprint store seem rather limited in their knowledge, at least they were last time I was there.

I guess if there are no signs that it has been rooted, that's probably a good way to go. You apparently had a phone pre-Knox and now I think you will get one with a Knox system, but it doesn't matter in your case since went beyond the point of no return already with the bootloader... I don't know if you have the new Spark model (tri-band), I don't know if the still make the old plain one like I have anymore...

I got the phone I have now about a month after the GS4 came out so its non sparks. I stayed on MK2 for so long because I couldn't find a newer rom that looked to be stable and not have to jump through a bunch of hoops to install it. The Odin screen shows everything being zero and offical software so I should be good. I am going to sign out of all of my accounts before I bring it in being I have a lot of apps bought through the store that only work on rooted phones. I hope I can get a tri band to replace it. My friend has a triband GS4 and it gets much better data speeds than mine.
Yeah, I mentioned elsewhere here before that I actually didn't know of the existence of the "Sparks" version of the G4. I screwed up the USB port on my G4 before upgrade time, so I had to buy another G4 on Amazon. Upgrade time has come up, so I was just looking and saw my phone listed as "Non-Sprint Sparks", which I thought meant that they called it the "Sparks" model because I hadn't bought it from Sprint... took me a while to figure out what that actually meant...
Sprint online nor the store could fix it so I got a new one.
No rooting but error 407
As titled, I've not rooted the phone. I'm getting error code 407 on attempts to update PRL and Update profile. Download updates manually does nothing. Note I'm on a Samsung Note 4, Sprint. Had updated to Marshmallow 6.0.1 late March but then above actions persist since then. I'm using Wi-Fi only, Sprint service disconnected as I couldn't pay bill when I lost job during a disabling illness.
I haven't been able to update prl profile or firmware for over 8 months. I am not rooted never have been I have called customer service over and over replaced SIM card did the ## stuff nothing has helped. The phone works although service isn't as good as it could be and says there is a prl update available but I always get connection error 6 on all 3. I also have serious battery draining issues as far as my data I do get a strong 4g lte connection just service is low and sometimes drops when I am close to a sprint tower every other phone gets full bars really on any network especially sprint. I hope someone can help I like my sph-720 other that that and honestly I can't afford to keep up with the Joneses. Hopefully this is enough info please help

Have you done a factory reset via recovery? Or you might want to flash latest full stock

Dual Audio feature in Media Panel is not working after Android 11 update

I used to connect 2 Bluetooth devices and listen on both devices at the same time on Android 10. Ever since the tablet got updated to Android 11, this dual audio feature doesn't work.
Steps I used on Android 10 to get dual audio is listed below. The same setup doesn't work on Android 11. Even though its able to connect to both devices, it is allowing to play on only one device at a time
1) Pair 2 Bluetooth devices
2) go to Media panel in the notifications section which allows you to enable sound on both devices at same time
Hi there,
You're not alone with this problem. It seems Samsung decided the S5e is not worth supporting this feature anymore and simply removed it with the update.
There's a thread in the Samsung community forum about it, but as you might guess, no official statement:
https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/tablets/dual-audio-fehlt-nach-update-auf-android-11-one-ui-3-1-tab-s5e/m-p/3606484#
Feel free to address your dissatisfaction there, the more voices, the higher the small chance of getting it back the way it was before...
Unfortunately the thread is in German, but making the problem more international can only help!

For anyone else searching forums on this issue, I did revert back to Android 10 on my S5e and I now have the feature back. As of now you can still successfully roll back to 10 via ODIN

I was actually thinking about that too, but this will void your warranty of the device, right?
Nevertheless, I'm still considering this, especially also since Samsung most likely won't provide another update to Android 12, even though the sister device Tab S6 is confirmed to get it.
Is there any particular how-to description that you followed, which you could link here?
Thanks for the hint!

I pretty much followed instructions in this youtube video:
As far as firmware to choose in video, I choose Cellular South since that is the USA version. And for my tablet there is no CP file since it doesnt have a radio. When you hold down volume keys and plug in tablet it also automatically goes in debug mode versus having to select it like he did, at least for me it did. I believe those were the only differences in video. It took my windows PC forever to download and install drivers, that was only hiccup. Took along time flash also, be patient, dont touch anything, let it do its thing.
As far as warranty, IDK, this is just flashing same Software back to device, not a custom ROM, no rooting required, seems like it wouldnt be void. You'd have to ask that question to more experienced members here. But I can tell you, warranties usually suck anyway, and if your device is good out of the box for a month it is typically good for years. Hit me up if you decide to do it and have a question, Ill try to help best I can. It was a must feature for me to have and so glad to have it back. I also used to watch movies with my wireless and hand someone else a wired pair, that feature also was removed in 11 but works in 10
