I received a phone number when I bought my tab from sprint. However I would l would like to send and receive text from the same number as my EVO. Is there a way to forward texts to my Tab and when I send a message from the tab it looks like it came from my EVO? Thanks

I would have to say no. You could manually forward from the evo to the tab. Then write a response on the tab and send it to the evo and forward again out to your destination but that would be the craziest thing ever.
Sign up for Google Voice and tell all your contacts to only use your GV number from now on...

It sounds like a router you wish behind your tab. However it's too hard to do so.

I guess they figured out the problem with discount accounts and got some other bugs fixed, too. Worked for me.
Kept my old voice number too, and just ported my sprint number to another Gmail account.

still not working here :/ no biggie thou
Been using it for over a week now. I made my GV number be main number rather than converting my sprint number to GV. Here's why:
By transitioning you GV number to your sprint account, you still maintain your original sprint number!
- GV number becomes you primary incoming and outgoing phone number calls and texts.
- All texts will utilize the native SMS interface with your carrier and your phone.
- Texts to/from the phone will all appear on the GV website so you can carry on a chat from either place.
- GV App no longer needed for anything unless you want to use it for it's other features.
- Old sprint number remains yours. Incoming calls and texts to your old sprint number will automatically go through GV and ring down all the phones you have on the account and texts appear on the website too.
- Kick ass.
Does anyone know or can recommend an app the lets you send/receive SMS & MMS with the Thrive over Wifi?

I have been using Heywire for sms. It does not do mms but it is excellent for sms. The person you send the message to doesn't need to have Heywire installed.

you can try texttab. What it does is connect thru Bluetooth to your phone, and receives any SMS your phone gets and sends them to your thrive. Which you can reply and send on your thrive once your paired up.
TexTab worked awesome on mine! I absolutely love that program. Thanks for the head's up on that app. Definitely worth paying for it...
I have google voice and I have loved being able to text from any browser, including the thrive's browser. Especially if you're on sprint for your mobile servce, I would strongly recommend setting up google voice.

Sprints decision to work in collaboration with google voice makes it this way. I have Sprint and love them for this. A friend of mine is having trouble figuring out how to send google voice sms from his Thrive since he is on TMobile tho.
I use DeskSMS, I started using it over month ago and the fact it actually syncs with my contacts on my phone rather they have Google Voice or any other service makes it IMO the best app there for texting over wifi without having to jump between phone numbers. Especially for those of us that didnt want to lose our MMS capability by completely syncing with Google Voice.
I tried DeskSMS for a little while and it works ok. I stopped using it because Google Voice Canadian numbers are still not available. Hopefully I will use DeskSMS again once Canadian Google voice numbers are available.
Rogers Wireless use to offer wifi calling and text for consumer however this option is no longer compatible with my current plan with them so I had to improvise.
I`ve also tried textplus which work very well and you can get a Canadian number by
paying a monthly fee.

I am using google voice on all my android devices and computers. Most over wi_fi and all sync almost at the same time. Love the thrive.

Am not sure if this is discussed somewhere.
Anyway, just to share.
Here's how:
Every mobile broadband card comes with a number, and that number will be used when you send / receive SMS.
- Download official Go SMS Pro here and install on your tablet
- Launch the app and send SMS to your other mobile number that you are using to make calls
- The sender number is what your friends will see when they read your SMS from Tab!
Enjoy
On European 3G devices, there is a stock app called Messages, so i don't think that third party app is needed.
For those with the wifi only version , check out TexTab.

Until Verizon releases Touchwiz for the LTE versions, this seems like a good alternative. I'm going to test it now.
EDIT: Does not work on mine, says "cannot send message, will send it when the service becomes available" and that message sits there forever until I uninstalled it.
That's because verizon blocks text messaging with their tablet plans.

Interesting... Strange that they advertise it as a capability, and plan on including it with their touchwiz update.

Yea I work for verizon and whenever I sell a tablet, a provision is loaded onto their account called "block text messaging". It's very odd indeed since the original galaxy tab allowed you to pick a texting bundle.

I simply use Google Voice on my wifi Tab. Works perfectly.

I been using Heywire and it works well, gave me a regular US number.
If anyone has a 3G tab with Touchwiz, but no Messages app. Try to send a sms to your data plan number, i think that the Messages app appeared after i received the first sms message from my operator.
I know there are a few apps out there, but I'm not sure if they are any good. I want to be able to received and send texts on my tablet to/from my current phone number, not a secondary one like most apps will give you. For instance, people would text my cell phone number and the text would go to the phone and also to the tablet...then I can type the response on the tablet and send from there.

I use DeskSMS/TabletSMS and I've never had any problems with it. You can get them on your computer through Chrome/Firefox extensions too. Plus, it's made by the guy who makes Clockworkmod, so you're supporting a great developer in the process.
To be able to use my phone number, and send texts from my tablet. But, using my phone number. Because I know there are texting apps, but I'm not sure if I can set it up to use my real number.

Yes, download the free app called mighty text, from the play store. Install it on your phone and tablet.
It lets you text from your tablet but using your phone. It sends the texts to and from phone to tablet using phones data allowance as the app on your phone actually sends the texts as if you were using your phone.
It lets you read texts off your phone.
