Thought this might be of help to others, after trying the froyo viper rom for a week, I decided to go back to 2.1, kept getting force closes, so booted in to clockword wiped 3 times and used it to restore to my last backup which was right before I updated to viper. Rebooting the phone it would not get past the Samsung screen, tried booting it over and over still just stayed at the samsung screen was about to odin it when it occured to me that maybe clockwork doesnt replace the kernal or doesnt replace it correctly from the backup, so re downloaded y previouse kernal (mixup) and the restored my last backup again and rebooted, this time it booted up just fine.....but now after a little while i started getting lines running up the screen, kinda like static or a unsupported video mode...hmmmm back tinto clockword and reflashed the mixup kernal again, reboot ........seems alright now no freaky static lines booting just fine back to how I had it before the froyo rom
lol
Clockwork doesn't backup kernel's I don't think. So always keep your 2.1 kernel handy...

Thxs for the heads up...
After trying the "froyo" roms..I've experienced TWLAUNCHER FC loops and not getting all my market apps especially the SlingPlayer that i purchased..which is most important to me..
I was wondering why I would not get back to my EE back-up ..
it was a pain to start from scratch and flash original, then modem, then another froyo rom to see which one worked..
So now you say to do a full backup restore and then flash the kernal after that?
is there a solution to get "ALL" my apps to show up in Froyo market?
thxs

Hey guys i know "Help!" threads get annoying (at least in the Fascinate forum they do.) but i could really use some help.
Rooted my friends phone today (root, clockwork, rom manager), and was going to install regular JAC kernal /voodoo w/o color fix.. I made sure the phone had the smaller NAND chip. Installation went fine (phone booted, voice told me it was switching to ext. 4.) and the voice said voodoo was complete. The phone was stuck at the S logo for about an hour and it was then i decided voodoo was botched. From there i rebooted to clockwork and went to restore the nandroid i made when i rooted. The nandroid got stock at one of the Data files for about 30 minutes. (i have a feeling this is around where i messed things up myself) Decided screw it and was going to flash JI6(T959UVJI6) and the stock kernal with ODIN. Now the phone boots past the S logo but the screen stays black and only the backlight menu buttons light up. It wont go past there. Any quick help is appreciated.
You didn't disable the lagfix I'm assuming.
Odin Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick, then Odin JFD, install ROM of you're choosing.
Did you even try to search for a fix before posting???

If you can still boot into clockwork recov. you can save it by pushing the undo voodoo zip file that was mentioned about. Assuming that u have adb access. If not odin froyo that doesnt brick tepartition checked. Turn off. Boot back in download. Odin stock jdf. Ji6 isnt a standalone rom. Its more like a no wipe update. Lucky his vibrant wasnt hardware locked lol. He will have a 90% chance of losing EVERYTHING
Had to odin flash froyo that doesnt brick then jfd and yep he lost all his data but he didnt have much to begin with. Now happily running Fusion. Thanks for the help guys!
So I decided to give Tranquility a test and see how it compares to my currently running ApeX. I followed the usual procedures, data wipe/factory reset.....twice.
then installed TranQ and the TranQ App update.
The phone then boots up and freezes on the animation screen. So i reset it, then it won't boot at all past the Logo screen. Randomly it decides to boot up fine, but then 30 seconds of android and it reboots and freezes up.
So for some reason it won't let me boot into clockwork recovery, so i decide to just do the system only SBF it and be done.
So I've SBF'd it twice now, the first time it did a random restart and froze, and also kept the tranq boot animation. I did the 2nd sbf and it's got rid of the animation screen and back to droid, however the tranq boot logo is there.
I haven't proceeded to reactivate the phone yet, and just leaving it alone it hasn't restarted itself. I'm planning on rerooting and reinstalling clockwork recovery and see if i can get one of my old backups going.
But, any theories to what would have jacked it up so bad? and why the stock moto logo wasn't put back when SBF'ing?
update:
rerooted just fine using Z4, installed clockwork recovery just fine too.
Right now I'm doing a data wipe and reinstalling ApeX 1.3.1 from scratch from clockwork recovery. Then I'm gonna restore one of my backups.
Hopefully all goes well
update:
recovered to my backup just fine. Still didn't get rid of the tranq boot logo, thankfully i had a zip stored away of the stock logo so I installed that.
All is now well in the world.
Lesson from this......if it's working fine, leave yo sht alone!
Logo is stored in different place then a system sbf will update. That's not tranQ 's fault. I still use gummyJar though. Too much blur in TranQ for me
I had the exact same problem when I went from fission to tran q. I literally had to do the. 320 sbf then the. 340 sbf to get tran q to install right. Didn't like it and put fission back on
yea i had to do the same thing comming from fission, and because of it i am just staying on tranquility until Obsidian is more stable, then GOODBYE BLUR :-D
The trick to installing TranQ is to install it over stock. If you try to install it over another custom ROM you will have nothing but problems.

I feel your pain, but you shouldn't be discouraged (as long as you Nandroid, Nandroid, Nandroid!).
I also spent a week fiddling with TranQ before giving up due to random reboots. But I went ahead and installed GummyJar. It was worth it!
When you're ready to climb back onto the horse, you should try GummyJar. If you prefer a no-bur ROM, it's probably the best in terms of speed and stability.
well i had tried Gummy before, but it was a little buggy for me. Phone would restart after calls, hardware buttons wouldn't always work and a few other little things.
I actually just switched to Fission and it's pretty brilliant thus far. No problems at all, and the fission manager helps a lot

IT IS TranQ's fault. It is the only ROM that does this. Before you get rid of Tranq, you have to go in to the tools and set your boot logo back to stock. I have flashed many different ROMs and it is the ONLY ONE that makes sure to "leave its mark," LITERALLY.
had same problem when I went from fission. I had to sbf .32 then sbf .34 then did the tran q and it worked just fine after that. I didn't like it to much so I went back to fission. To get rid of the tran q I just did the same sbf method I did and went back to fission.

You're right on w/this..Its too bad I found out the hard way..
Rooted using unrevoked. Flashed to evio 3 and trying to flash different roms such as CM 7, or Decks 1.0 and it wont get passed the boot animation screen.
The animation keeps looping and I end up restoring it back to evio 3 with manual recovery mode boot.
I tried cleaning the caches before flashing and it wont work.
Flashed with different methods as well.. Rom Manager and manual install zip from sd on recovery boot menu..
Im new to flashing roms so please let me know if you see anything wrong in my steps. I have titanium back up, but I dont think I have my stock rom backed up for some reason..
Did you wipe EVERYTHING before flashing?
all the caches it specifies on the pop up from Rom Manager, yes.
I havent wiped it to factory, re-root and flash if that is what you are asking.
Ok, wiped everything and got it to boot into new rom but marketplace is gone and its functioning bad. apps arent working and I cant restore apps or contacts..
You need to flash gapps to get your market and other google apps - this will then allow you to sync your contacts, calendar, etc. There should be a link to it in the rom's thread.

For the love of God do some damn research and learn something before you go and ruin your phone.

Just go ahead and reinstall the RUU. Search on youtube for unrooting htc evo. I believe the video is from zedomax. Great tutorial for getting your phone back to stock.
And another one having problems, and using ROM Manger......
So I was trying to go from comrom to OMFGB nightlies, and didn't know you have to go to OMBG first. When I tried to do that. I odined the ED05 modem, then flashed OMFGB, then the GAPPS. It wouldn't work, and then I read I had to flash a new kernel, so I flashed the Glitch high leakage. Then it started to work, but after it went to the boot screen, it went to a new CMW, blue, and tried to install GAPPS? I think that's what it was doing, but it went really quickly, and said something like it couldn't mount the sd card, which is weird. So I took out the sd card, and it said waiting for mount, or something similar. I put it back in, but it wouldn't work. So then, I flashed back to UKB with the pb&j kernel, to see if I could get things going from there. It booted fine, but when I tried to just flash OMFGB, it would go to the boot screen, and then go back to CWM. So I tried to go back to UKB, and then it did the same thing, didn't change the boot screen at all (so now it's stuck with Galaxy S Cyanogen mod boot screen). I tried to flash OMBG then, but it was still going back to CWM. I'm thinking about odining the eclair package, and then trying from there. What do you think. Oh and usually I go to android central, but they don't have OMFGB nightlies there, so here I am.
TL;DR: I flashed a bunch of GB stuff in what I assume to be in the wrong order, now I'm stuff. Help me?
EDIT:After flashing a bunch of stuff, I don't remeber what or what order, just that the Glitch was last, I managed to get it to boot, first with a glitch boot screen, then the android boot screen. I'm not sure what I'm on, I think it is OMGB, at least that is what the widget says when I booted it up. I'm really confused. Anyways, I think I got it.
EDIT2:Nope, stuck at the boot to CWM loop. I'm going to try to go back to UKB (froyo) through that sticky in dev
EDIT3:Well I'm waiting for it to download, so what I did that worked was flash OFGB in red CWM, weird, but it worked. I'm leaving it at that for now, cause nobody is replying.
While I'm glad you got things to work, you should probably start from scratch if things start to get weird again. I highly recommend this thread as the proper way to go from CM7/MIUI/OMFGB back to stock, and from there back to whatever you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391
Remember that when you flash stock DL09 or EB01 or ED05, you also have to have the atlas 2.2 pit file and "repartition" checked in ODIN.
Finally, while you still have things working, I recommend you do a nandroid backup. If you need to go all the way back to stock before coming back to gingerbread, you can do an Advanced Restore > Data Restore in order to get your apps and such back pretty painlessly.
Yeah thanks, that's the sticky I was talking about. I didn't know about the re-partition button having to be checked, thanks for that And the Data restore is through CWM? I assume so. And for that, I just need a regular nandroid backup?
Yes, in CWM you can choose backup and restore, and then do a system backup.
When you want to go back to a given setup (i.e. your apps, widgets, etc.) you can do an advanced restore where you choose to restore just data, and not the whole nandroid system backup.
That's pretty cool, I never new about that. So I tried the *228 1 and 2 thing, cause I couldn't download the beta swype, and I thought it I needed too, but it said my phone couldn't be activated, and to try again, then the I lost all signal. I rebooted, and it came back, but I couldn't activate it again. It's being weird still, and in the morning, I'm starting over like you suggested. I'm still receiving calls though, and I get good connection. For the morning, I was wondering if I could just check to see if I have everything I need. I have:
CI500_VZW_ED05_FROYO_REL.tar.md5 from the thread you posted for odin
OMGB 1.2.0
OMFGB nightly build 7/21
Glitch High leakage v11.1
The CWM for all roms (red)
lithid gapps (unless you think the other gapps is good)
and I think that is it. I don't have the atlas 2.2 pit file, can I just search here for that? Thanks for all the help
EDIT:Found the atlas 2.2, and I use that at the same time as the md5 file, right?
EDIT2:Okay, I tried to do a nandroid backup, but with the CWM recovery 4.0.1.0 (I think that's what it is), it didn't show anything, like it said backing up system, then it didn't show what part it was backing up, and the status bar stayed blank, then it moved on to data after a while, and that. It said it failed to back up sd-ext, which I'm guessing is why it wasn't working properly. I'm doing the odin restore to froyo, and if someone could tell me the correct order to install/flash/odin stuff to get to the OMFGB nightlies, that would be amazing!
EDIT3:I think I did it right. Odined to froyo, Odined the ED05 modem, Odined the CWM for CM7, flashed CM7, Rebooted, Flashed Glitch Kernel, then Flashed OMFGB nightly build 7/23. I still need to do gapps though.
EDIT4:I did gapps, and almost everything looks good. I can't activate my phone through *228 1, and when I try to set up my google account, it says it couldn't establish a reliable connection to the servers. And After I call to activate my phone, my service goes dead. I can still text and receive calls though
EDIT5:man, a lot of editing. I flashed OMGB 1.2.0 on top, and now I can set up my google account. Still not activating though :/
Unrelated question, how come sometimes my wifi and signal bars are grey, sometimes blue (I'm using cyanbread)? I think when they are grey, I'm not using signal? How do I make them blue?
running taboonay 2 and villian. Tried to update using the taboonay cookbook to get a new boot animation and home button. Boot animation works great' but when i push the home button it says system ui stopped unexpectedly. I really like the new buttons though. Tried installing again to no avail. Check the taboonay thread, vache stated he fixed the problem. Kitchen has been fixed, just re-cook what you want and flash

Yes it's fixed indeed.
Just cook again ;-)
I'm about to give up hope on root. I think I messed something up with my lack of experience. Here's the story.
Rooted and everything went well. Installed clockwork and taboonay 2 with villian and everything was going great. Then I tried the cookbook thing on taboonay. And got a system UI failure constantly. So I decided I had made a mess of my sdcards trying to figure things out. So I was going to reset everything back to factory, to include clockwork, and start over. I used clockwork to restore things back to before I put on taboonay and villian. Then, without thinking I unrooted the tab before changing clockwork back. I moved my backups from clockwork to my computer and formatted my sd cards. Now the tab won't reroot. I tried to move my backup files back to path sdcard/clockwork/backups but clockwork says it can't find them. How do I get clockwork to find my backup files? And if I restore to a point the tab was rooted, will it again be rooted? How do I reset everything back to factory and start over?
think I figured it out. Rooted again anyway. Is there an easy way to reset everything at one time? Including recovery?
As far as I know the answer is "NO".
You may restore kernel and OS with a nand backup/retore and you can flash the recovery in tree ways : adb, zip, Acer Recovery app but not all at the same time.
First thing to do :
install the recovery
then flash kernel and rom from sdcard or you restore a nand backup.
Your clockwork backups should work if you put them back in the /clockworkmod directory of the external SD card. Did you pay attention to the directories structure ?
For Thor recovery, the path you mentioned is wrong to me.
On the external sd it should be :
/clockworkmod /backup/[date of backup]/*
The [date of backup] is like : 2011-08-26.20.00.12
(date and time)
id pay for an app that did it if anyone has any ideas.... OK. I got clockwork off. I'm going to unroot again and reset the whole thing again and start over.
I 've edited my previous post, will this help you ?
yes, very helpful. Got everything put back together, and even got the mods from taboonay cookbook working. You all are awesome. Learned more from xda in two days than two years of college. Ofcourse, that probably says something about my effort in college. Ive got another question though. Think im going tonstart a new thread for it. Ive got adfree on my tab. Every time it blocks an ad it puts the little green android picture in where the ad should be. Wouldnt it be cool if you could personalize that pocture that pops up? Is that possible?
