Well....maybe you want to specify in a little bit more details, what your requirements are.
Do you need a keyboard, do you want performance, does size matter, etc...?

hmm, looks like you already chose

I dont like desire Z due to its mechanical design for the flip..its look like easy to break after u use to flip it many time..i use to have N95 nokia which flip type..after 1 year use it, the reben wiring below display had tear off..even after change new reben, its only can last for 6 month for its to tear off again..twice change reben same problem..that reason i dont like mechanical design..i now use dhd n really satistify with it

I haven't decided as yet. My requirements basically are good looking phone with good internet browsing and which could play movies.

I'm using desire and saw Z, wanna know should I stick with HD or get Z?

well
desire z
pros
better screen not so washed out
can overclock to1.9ghz but i think dhd can do that in no time
better battery life ( i think)
Cons
hinge problem although not everyone is having this problem
desire HD
Pros
bigge screen
more popular than desire z in my opinion so will have more custom roms
Cons
washed out screen
battery life

Are you sure about the desire Z being overclocked to 1.9ghz as it has only got a 800mhz processor to start with instead of the 1ghz in the dhd?

Its true,
The difference is noone has tried to push the DHD into "dangerous" voltages yet.
Probably due to the price.

Amazing!! I wouldnt have thought that was possible on the face of it!
Tell ya what, it looks like as ones get a bit more adventurous with the dhd we will have a lot to look forward to development and overclocking wise!

I have an HD but played with the Z keyboard for a short time and was really impressed with it. The best physical keyboard I have ever used on a smartphone. It made me realise the limitations of soft keyboards - even the excellent soft keyboard on the HD. It looked a nice piece of kit too. Can't comment on its battery but I can confirm that the HD's battery is utter ****e.

What phone next? (Not a hate topic!)

Hi forum...
If I want to buy a new phone now, replacing my X10, not because I hate my X10, but because I would love to play with custom roms, then what phone should I go out and buy?
I have 2 or 3 things I would want in the phone, though.
1. good working gps reciver.
2. Fm radio.
3. Nice big screen and battery.
I have NOTHING against the X10, I only want a phone more for fun, and to play with custom roms...
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
i would suggest Desire HD
If you are a ROM freak HTC is the way to go.

How did you know it is great ? Have you used it ? Sure the ROM in that is great but what about other aspects of the phone ? Do you know it has a good working GPS ? Do you know it has a FM Radio as OP has asked for ? And do you know if its not going to be locked down ?
This looks promising. Teathered too...

So htc is the way to go?
I was really looking at samsung, so i am really happy that i asked...

I think not!
But seriously, im saving for the Desire HD already just to keep my spirits up. Ill keep my X10 though i think. Make an "ok" backup phone ;-)

The desire hd looks insane good. Makes the iphone4 look 5 years old.
well for sure, not a SE anymore
my nect could be an evo or the nectversion of it xD
I'm going with Captivate.
Worse camera and GPS issues but better CPU/GPU, good screen, more ram, hacked bootloader, custom roms (just not a froyo one still, but it will and at least it already has 2.1). Desire HD is nice but plain expensive still (it's new anyway).
HTC is the way to go because as i see it the HTC phones have the most customs roms available and are better supported by devs and HTC.
I had a HTC Hermes, after that a Diamond, after that a Touch HD, and all of them were supported by devs and flashed Roms every day.
I must say that were great times. I hope we can do it on our X10 sooner or later.
I would buy a Desire HD
I would go for desire HD or a gsm version of droid x.
I'd wait to see what WP7 has to offer. The UI looks unique and sleek. X10 styled WP7 will be attractive if it comes early.
HTC Desire HD will be my next phone, and i have already pre orderd it.
Honestly, if Apple allowed Widgets, I might go that route - but they don't so I'd lean to something like a Driod X.
I'm hoping I can get my hands on a desire hd for sure....if not I will definitely be going back to HTC....I do love my X10 a lot....but I hate SE now lol.
I'm currently looking at the HTC HD2 right now...I really like winmo to...I might give it a shot.

Help please

Im running a rooted desire at moment got my dhd today on upgrade i was going to sell it and keep my desire. Is this a bad idea? Just havent looked into the rooting scene with the dhd is it as easy and is thr as many roms ect?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I went from a Hero to a DHD so the jump was massive, but I'm not sure you will notice that much of an improvement over a Desire.
Rooting is very easy if you know what you're doing though, and there are some great ROMs available. Probably not as many as Desire, but the quality is there.
Why not take a look where all the magic happens:

[Q] new phone

hi all...
i m looking forward to buy a new android phone. i have 3 options.
1. HTC Desire
2. HTC HD2
3. Samsung Galaxy S I9000
can u help me choose please? which one u think is better and why?
desire/hd2, i prefer the desire though, hd2 has a lot of stuff going on around in dev, flash like crazy haha (im not a flashaholic), but then again it is fun to try out quad-boot os on your phone, id just stick with android though
Galaxy s = iphone knock off plus crap build quality and lag.

Oooooh you were sticking to the OP's choices. lol
hd2 provides you with a bigger screen but with less color compare to desire... hd2 has also a newer processor, but his running wm... I would take hd2 and flash it to run android...
Galaxy s may be the best on paper but its laggy. If you want to mod it go for the hd2. If you want an official gingerbread update go 4 the desire

lol.... yeah i limited the choice to these 3 phones, because cellphones are are really expensive here in Pakistan.
i sold my wildfire for 20K, and HD2 will cost me 27k, Desire and galaxy round about 30k. (my budget wont allow me to go higher)
Desire. Friend got one, and, its pretty amazing. Seems to literally get hot though.
(Although, after comparing his stock ROM, and mine with CM7 and ADW Launcher EX, he feels my phone is far smoother and faster than his. hint hint. )

Yeah I know someone who has a Desire and feels rooted/overclocked/CM7 wildfire is smoother
Samsung is officially going gingerbread on sgs ,I have an sgs but it's bricked apart from that I'd say go for the galaxy put a good jacket on it you'll never think of how it feels again + trust me you will thank yourself once it's "pimped",max it out you'll see.......

I might be wrong here, but I thought the Desire Z and Desire HD stock ROMs were identical (from a features viewpoint). I've got the Desire Z and my friend has a Desire HD and whilst I'm now on CM7, her HD looks/feels exactly like my Z did (well a little bit quicker probably because of the bigger CPU)
They launched about the same time and were both originally the only ones which could use htcsense.com as well so realistically if you're just looking for a Sense ROM for your G2 I would just suggest Virtuous (which to me felt like the stock ROM, but a million times better) or one of the other DZ ROMs. Hope this is of some help!

What diff in HD rom?
Well it might be the same sense but you would still need to port it. Remember Disire Z has a keyboard and HD does not.

Desire S is Gingerbread.
there is a desire hd gingerbread sense rom, but its exactly the same as the desire s rom. no point in porting it.

What kind of problems? I have both DHD and HOX(being my main phone).
DHD is one of the best phones I've carried.
But HOX is even better imo. I'm loving this phone as well as the amazing community for this phone here on XDA.

Why did you buy a HTC One V? It's nearly the same only worse camera, less RAM, but a bigger battery. Doesn't make sense to me. You should've saved that money for something better, like One S :-/

The backlight flicker has been resolved in recent updates.
Battery life is very decent imo. With the right ROM and Kernel you can get a very good battery life.
S-OFF hasn't been a disadvantage for the HOX community. We're able to flash custom ROMs and kernels very easily.
However, the only reasons I would agree with you on the HOX not being the best phone in the market today are:
- Not having a microSD slot
- and the battery being irreplaceable.
Bye
Have fun with the next one!!
Ok. The reason I got a One V is because all the other phones were 300$+ for it. The One V is 150$. And after using it, I've noticed that it is overall better than the Desire HD. Despite, having smaller screen, smaller camera, and less RAM, it just feels so much better than the Desire HD. Its alot smoother too.
Move on, but stay tuned.. This phone still rocks

You went for a downgrade!?
DHD has much better specs all around. DHD was a flagship phone by HTC. If you want to "upgrade" you should consider the current flagship, which is One X or wait for the upcoming one.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear you got your DHD back. You did the right thing.
Simple rule. Thought DHD has crossed warranty period so if I get half of the price I can get another HTC without adding anything. But we are foolish to think that way.
