Is there any way to see if the wifi is connected via b,g,or n?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It will connect via G if the router is G or N it will connect via B if the router is B. The Evo is capable of N but I believe you have to install the N hack in order for it to work. I don't now if any rom builders include the wireless N hack in their roms or not.
if you load a ROM that is 2.2 Froyo, its has the feature built-in, no hack neccessary.
It doesn't specifically state the type, but when you go to wifi settings and click the network you're connected to it will list the speed of the connection, which can help you determine what kind of network it is.
802.11B - 11 Mbit/s
802.11G - 54 Mbit/s
802.11N - ~160 Mbit/s

Actually, depending on the 802.11n network, it may say only 65Mbps.
True, perhaps a better indication of "N" would be to say >54 Mbit/sec.
I rarely get more than 65 Mbit/sec on my Netgear access point at home, but the fact it's more than 54 indicates it is operating on "N".

The phone doesn't allow a connection over 65mbits. I have multiple wireless N routers and have never seen a connection greater than that. It gets kinda annoying. My internet has peaks faster than that lol. I get peaks up to 100mbit on my comcast connection and a constant 50mbits that sometimes i dont even get on my phone. Granted it only matters while downloading roms and other larger files lol. Or transferring movies to and fro for my kids to watch on roadtrips and such.
I have netgear with both the g and n radios and my evolution only finds the g. I am runnind ultimate Droid. Where can one find this n hack?
Stop running a KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGED ROM, and get CM6.1 or a stock Froyo ROM.

hi all,
according to o2 mini s has Integrated Wireless LAN (802.11b/g)
http://www.my-xda.com/xdaminis_spec.html
but i couldnt find a way to switch between b/g or is it possible manual switch?
anyone?
I think in some roms its disabled for example the T Mobile rom. Im not sure there is a way to switch it on or off on the Wizard. Either way just set your router to mixed if possible. You really wont see any difference between b or g on your wizard anyway. The only reason I would see for being able to connect to G is connecting to routers that are set to G only.
There is no setting on the device I can see. I don't believe its a 'g' device capable of 54 Mbits, I think this is just marketing. Its a 'b' device which can connect to b or g. Just like blueangel, alpine, universal.
Can anyone prove otherwise?
thanks guys I’ve asked that because i have connection blockage problem with my wireless router, it suddenly happens and while connection to router is alive and working I can't send or receive any data from internet or from other wireless connected pcs, only way to get it going is turn wifi off and on, i reckon its something to do with router then

My Qtek Wizard establishes connections up to 54 MBit/s, when disabling the power saving mode. Usually connection bandwidth is 18 MBit/s with standard settings.
So Wizard is definitely 802.11g capable!
So disabling the power save mode kicks G in then ?
I don't think it is a big deal G or B, wifi is nice, but the processor is so slow that can not deal with more data speed than b.
only personal opinion.
Happy New Year to every one on this forum
I think 802.11g is only available after a firmware upgrade. Seem to recall reading somewhere that the Qtek and I-Mate branded one have had this done and the T-Mobile and O2 ones haven't.
Next O2 rom update maybe.

Interesting. So you are setting power save mode to 'best performance' in order to disable?
Where are you seeing the connection speed, this is on your router?
I'm not doubting you but I'd like to see for myself. Thanks.
I just rechecked the g-issue more detailed.
Allthough changing power saving settings to "best performance" I couldn't achieve more than 18 MBit/s again. Maybe the display of 54 Mbit/ before were caused by some bug in my router.
The bandwidth is shown in the "WLAN monitor" menu of my WLAN router (AVM "Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7050").
After switching to 802.11g-only mode my Wizard wouldn't reconnect or find the WLAN at all.
But 18 MBit/s is a speed step, that is used in 802.11a and g only. 802.11b+ doesn't have a speed step between 11 and 22 MBit/s. (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.11#802.11a)
So my Wizard 18 MBit/s must establish a (obviously not 100% standard-conforming) 802.11g connection.
i was just on the club imate site lookin at the k-jam specs and heres what is says:
-IEEE 802.11b/g/e*/i* compliant
-Internal WLAN antenna
-11, 5.5, 2, and 1 Mbps per channel, auto fallback for extended range
*Will be supported soon via free ROM update from clubimate.
How come I get so slow speeds when copying a file over WIFI from my desktop computer? I get about 420kb/s and when I check the WIFI connection the signal quality is 70% or higher and connected at Tx 54Mbps / Rx 48Mbps.. Shouldn't I get something like a few Mb/s with that connection??
Using Resco Explorer to access shared folder on desktop computer and copy files btw...
Is it set for best battery? If it is, that's the problem.
No.. Best performance...
Any idea why its only giving me 450ish Kb/s? What SHOULD I be getting with 54Mbps?
The WIFI router is a Zyxel P-320W btw.. It supports 802.11b/g..

if you read specification of your phone you should know this, taken from htc homepage
Up to 7.2 Mbps download speed
Up to 2 Mbps upload speed
so i dont think it matters if you got 54/48Mbps
this is my guess to your issue
someone right me if im wrong here..

7.2 Mbps = HSDPA, 2 Mbps = HSUPA
NOT WiFi
So what is the supported WIFI speeds on the HD2? 802.11b/g is supposed to be alot faster than the ~5 mbits I seem to be getting Or is the network(WIFI/HSDPA etc) controller limited to 7.2mbps be it WIFI or through 3G?
Well, those 7.2mbps and 2.0mbps are probably not wireless specifications as they stand for HSDPA connection. Wireless speeds are specified by 802.11 standards, e.g. 802.11a supports up to 2mbps bandwidth, 802.11b up top 11mbps and 802.11g 54mbps. so, these should be the speedlimits for HD2. I have seen that it is possible to enable 802.11n for HD2 but i havent tryed it out yet as I have difficulties using wireless with my HD2 even with the slow speeds.
no matter where I try to use wifi, it works for ~30secs and after that the phone can't find any wireless networks, sometimes even hangs. After waiting for about 1 minute, it finds wifi again and same scenario happens again and again. It hasn't worked right from the moment I took it out of the box. should return it probably but before that, maybe someone has had same problem and knows what the reason is for that?
Not sure if im the only one but every so often my tab does not connect to my home wifi, it does connect to my vibrant via tether no problem. Now i have had this issue a few other times and the only solution i can come up with is to do a factory reset, once i do that i have to set up the connection then im up and running. Does anyone have the same issue? Any suggestions? Dont want to keep reseting the tab just to get a working connection.

i dont think its anything to do with the router as i am able to connect my Vibrant and my laptop via wifi and no issues, but with my tab sometimes it just sits there trying try to connect
It is probably your router!
My primary router (WRT300N) connects just fine to my laptop, Wii, HD2 (with winmo) Touch pro II with older android port. But refuses to properly connect the Tab, company laptop (IBM), wife's laptop (Packard Bell), Touch pro II with newer Android ports.
It either does not get a IP or with an IP there is no data transfer.
Connected a WAP54g and all connect just fine!
DD-wrt is not supported for this router (V2), so cannot try that.
Is your ssid hidden? i believe froyo was suppose to able to connect to hidden ssids but try disabling that feature. Change it to wep just to check. I am using wpa2; I haven't had any issues.
Bought myself a new router, and now all can connect just fine.
I have the same problem. It just constantly connects and disconnects. Not sure what to do.
Which is the best router ?
Hello,
i own a TP-Link (TL-WR1043ND) Router. My Speed is "only" 65 Mb/s.
Channel 13
11 bgn mixed
Max Tx Rate 300 Mbps
WLAN is lost after xx minutes when the Galaxy Tab goes in standby.
(WLAN Policy: Never)
Which is the best and fastest router for the galaxy tab?
Thx
P.S.: Sorry about my bad english

Hi,
I have the same problem here, connection gone after a few mins, Wifi shows still connected although I can't access the net.
Contacted Samsung in the UK and they have asked me to return my Tab to them for repair!
Just a shot in the dark, but maybe useful. Some programs like Locale scan WiFi periodically for location info. It drove me nuts isolating the problem when the WiFi tether on my Droid would stop working after 5-10 minutes (random time but constant, because of when in Locale's scan cycle I started the tether). For those that are having problems of being able connect, but then the connection showing on, but seeming dead, that may be the issue. Toggling WiFi off and on reestablishes it, or you could just disable the program doing the scan until you head out to move around again.

The Tab doesn't support 5Ghz 802.11n or MIMO (the tab only has a single antenna) so 72Mbps is the best you can hope for over the 2.4Ghz channel, which you _might_ get if you stand right beside the router.
In most cases, 65Mbps is the best you can expect from any router with the Galaxy tab. Virtually no mobile devices seem to support the 5Ghz spectrum that the "fast" 300Mbps 802.11n requires.
Also, you'll get faster speeds if you change your setting from "bgn mixed" to "n only" and see if the tab still connects.
I often have difficulty connection to my WLAN at home, often I need to turn wifi off & on again a couple of times and leave it for a minute before it eventually connects. I don't think the WiFi in Android is particularly robust.
[Q] Do you have speed problems with Wifi? (N-band)
I have wifi N router and set to N only. I have two laptop both wifi N capable. When I transfer file usung file sharing betwen two laptop I m getting speed abt 3Mb/s but when i transfer file between laptop and SGS I only get speed of 300 Kb/s. SGS support wifi N standerd then why it so. Well I use ES file explorer to access file in my laptop over Wi- Fi.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It's a mobile device, they have lower throughput and probably only 1 antenna (most 802.11n devices have 3). There are a lot of factors, but basically, all that's important is that it supports the 802.11n protocol. Optimisation may lead to faster speed boosts over time though.
Network traffic might also be set to a low priority to help ensure the phone runs reliably for other tasks, but I have no idea why exactly it's slower exactly.
I get 1.5mbs from my nas and wireless n network
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i get 19.5mb downlaoding speed
and 4.3mb uplaoding speed
on my wi-fi
my connection 500/500mb
I m talking abt internet speed. I m asking abt file transfer speed betn my SGS and laptop
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
87 Mbps according to mine
i'll grab a screen shot when i get back home
87 seems too much I only get 25 while copy file on hard drive it self
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
that's actually low for me, but is better than nothing
my PC down in the cine room gets around 218+ Mbps
I get about 80Mbps laptop <-> network (802.11n 5Ghz), and about 5Mbps SGS <-> network (802.11n 2.4Ghz). Not horrible, but certainly not wonderful. I wish it had a 5Ghz radio too, so I could turn off my 2.4Ghz stuff :-/
[Q] Do you have problems with Wifi? (N-band)
Since my phone is on it's way to the repaircenter I would like to ask you all this Question.
I have problems with my wifi connection. The strange thing is, is that my router is brandnew! b+g+N!!!
The weird part is that it has only problems with the N-band
SO I hooked up another wireless router only with the b+g band and BAM it works.
But that's just messed up to have 2 wireless routers one for laptops and one just for my mobile phone...
So can u try the same thing and give me your comments about this issue?
there was already a topic about this
however one topic we did not touch base on, on the other topic was about the B+G bands
if you read the documentations you'll noticed that for N to work at full speed, it must only listen to N no B no G
when you use Mix mode, N doesn't work well
to use N, you need 2 bands, B + G only needs 1 band
if you enable all 3 B+G+N you only get 1 band for all, so making the N useless
the trick is to update all your old hardware that still runs G or B to N
then you can use pure N, and gain full speed
the SGS phone can run up to 87 Mbps on N
meanwhile computers can go up to 280+ Mbps

[Q] manual wifi fix app?
Hey, like many Android users I'm often having problems with Wifi not connecting to APs. While that can be fixed by restarting Android that takes a lot of time and is more than annoying. There are some apps to solve this issue, they "fix" wifi whenever the screen is turned on (e.g. http://www.appbrain.com/app/wifi-fixer/org.wahtod.wififixer http://www.appbrain.com/app/blade-wifi-fix/com.bladewififix).
That however I don't like either as due to the fixing taking place always wifi connection becoming established takes quite a lot of time. So my question: Is there an app that fixes the wifi connection but does so only manually, e.g. by clicking a widget button?
[Q] Can't connect to Wifi?
I select my Wifi network, I enter in the password, it says connecting, authenticating, connected, remembered, then it says disconnecting, searching, authenticating, and it repeats. The H at the top never disappears, no Wifi icon ever appears, what is the issue exactly?
And yes, I am connecting to a Wireless-G signal.
Don't worry I can't connect to your home network either so it's not a problem with your phone
I suggest you delete the password from the router and try and connect .
If you connect setup again with the password .

I had the same problem and i manage to fixit with "WIFI STATIC". It's free on Market. Access your router config and add your Galaxy Mac adress, then fill the parameters in WiFi Static. It Works! Never had problems again! Oh, i think you have to put your's computer(s) mac adress too in the router.
is there really no such app? :-(
Hi,
I would like to ask if it's normal to have <1MBps wifi transfer rate on my Galaxy S4. I'm trying to transfer a movie file from my phone to my PC (gigabit-lan) via my TP-LINK N750 router.
I checked my phone and it's currently connected using 2.4Ghz spec with 72Mbps linkspeed. Theoretically.. the wifi transfer speed should be around 8MBps not <1MBps.
Any clues why my transfer speed is slow? My forte is more on network stuffs so I'm not really sure if my phone is causing the bottleneck here or not. See attached for reference.
Thanks guys!

I have the same issue across several different ROMs and modems. Laptop with external HD is connected to router with gigabit LAN, phone connected to router via wireless-N and I get roughly 1mbyte/s. However download speeds with my phone via WiFi is roughly 8 megabyte/s (fiber optic) so I know higher speeds are possible.
My other desktop PC achieves around 11-12megabytes through WiFi but my phone just gets nowhere near it.
Odd thing is when I stream videos to my phone though my WiFi from a hard drive the phone buffers at well over 5megabytes/s but file transfers are somehow limited... I could never figure this one out

I also noticed this.. somehow I thought it was because of my router. So I decided to buy 450Mbps Dual Band router to test it. Unfortunately, it is still capped @ ~1MBps transfer rate even I used the 5Ghz spectrum
Complain to google
I have done some testing with a fast windows 7 system as the target and a Nexus 5 and an xperia neo v. I have also tested with XP and Linux smb clients. Basically the maximum I get get with stock 4.4.2 or 4.0.4 is about 4.5 Mbps (550KBps) pull down and 9Mbps push up. Wifi is 11g and XP gets 15 down and 19 up. openSUSE linux gets more or less the same as XP. The problem exists with ES Explorer and File Manager. I tried SFTP into linux with ES Explorer and that was a little slower. The standard USB transfer from windows explorer is really fast to the N5. This looks like a design or configuration problem in android 4. Complain to GOOGLE.
I am glad I found this just before I spent a lot of money on an ac router to speed up large wifi file transfers
So a device running pre version 4 should not have the limitation?
I have a Galaxy S4 with the newest firmware from samsung I9505XXUGNF1 (Kitkat 4.4.2). My router is a Asus RT-AC66U to which My S4 connects to with max speed of 433 Mbps. My internet connection is 120 Mbps.
When I do a speedtest on the S4 I get results of over 110 Mbps, but when I'm downloading a file over LAN from the disk connected directly to the router I get download speed only of ~20Mbps (2.4 MB/s) which is very sucky!
My Laptop have only a N network card, and connects to the router with max 300 Mbps and when I download the same file I get over 7.5 MB/s!! (~65 Mbps).
Speedtest also shows results of over 110 Mbps...
I remember when the phone was new, and it had Android 4.3, I had LAN download speed of over 9-10 MB/s...
I tried with different file managers like X-Plore and others, but it looks like it is not the app problem. Maby is a KitKat problem??
In short blame Broadcom or Samsung for using Broadcom BCM4335's BCM4335 wifi chipset. You need to understand how 802.11n works. To achieve 300mbps speed, you will need 2-3 spatial antennas which can be found on modern laptops with Intel Wifi chipset (such as 6300). Our galaxy note has only one antenna (should be 1 for each radio band (a/n, b/g/n), but it is "N" compatible. Unfortunately this is a case of the manufacturer misleading it's customers ( I would say out right lying to us). Its is compatible with N, however it can not support N speeds, as far as I have seen all phones that claim 802.11n are actually limited to 65mbps. So really are not 802.11n at all, rather just a little faster than 802.11g.
part of the problem is the maximum number of data spatial streams the radio can use. Also assuming equal operating parameters to an 802.11g network achieving 54 megabits per second (on a single 20 MHz channel with one antenna), an 802.11n network can achieve 72 megabits per second (on a single 20 MHz channel with one antenna and 400 ns guard interval); 802.11n's speed may go up to 150 megabits per second if there aren't other Bluetooth, microwave or WiFi emissions in the neighborhood by using two 20 MHz channels in 40 MHz mode. If more antennas are used, then 802.11n can go up to 288 megabits per second in 20 MHz mode with four antennas, or 600 megabits per second in 40 MHz mode with four antennas and 400 ns guard interval. Because the 2.4 GHz band is seriously congested in most urban areas, 802.11n networks usually have more success in increasing data rate by utilizing more antennas in 20 MHz mode rather than by operating in the 40 MHz mode, as the 40 MHz mode requires a relatively free radio spectrum which is only available in rural areas away from cities. Thus, network engineers installing an 802.11n network should strive to select routers and wireless clients with the most antennas possible (one, two, three or four as specified by the 802.11n standard) and try to make sure that the network's bandwidth will be satisfactory even on the 20 MHz mode.
Data rates up to 600 Mbit/s are achieved only with the maximum of four spatial streams using one 40 MHz-wide channel. Various modulation schemes and coding rates are defined by the standard and are represented by a Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) index value. The table below shows the relationships between the variables that allow for the maximum data rate. GI (Guard Interval) : Timing between symbols.[6]

still faster than crappy USB connection..

WiFi Powersave mode
You may check if the WiFi power save mode is on. If it is on, you may turn it off and check if the speed improves.
To enter Service Menu, open dialer and press *#0011#
In the service menu, select menu > wifi
check if the WiFi power save mode is on or off. Turn it off.
If it was off, then you've wasted your time trying this
