Assign long press action? - EVO 4G General

Is there a setting or an app that allows you to assign an app to a long press? What I would like to be able to do is long press the search button and launch a camera app.
Thanks!

Please report back on the pros and cons.

Seems to do exactly what I wanted. You can assign an app to either the search button or a camera button (not that the evo has one). Super basic, but is working fine so far.

Try Itching thumb. Uses your search button to display your last few apps openned, the pages openned and the pages running in the background, like Sense, app drawer, internet, angry birds, ect.. and u can swipe accross them in a Flow-Like motion to go back to the background apps.

Firstly, I'd look in the manual.
However if you go to your app drawer, long press on an icon, it will take you to your homescreen, from there you can drag to your dock and drop where you want.
That's assuming you don't have a custom launcher and have changed settings to single dock.
As I am quite new maybe I do not use the right tech word. Sorry. I tried to drag and drop. From the app screen, I come ti my home screen. Ok. But when I want to put on my dock (the fix bar it just above the home button)... It becomes the litter bin and nothing. Mmhhh...

Sorry, I haven't used TouchWiz launcher since i was on eclair - however, by far the best advice I can give you, would be to install launcher pro or zeam free from the market.
There are many others, but these are probably the easiest. Zeam is very basic and light, lp has more features. Get them both, find which one suits you best. You won't be disappointed.
Tks for advice. I bought adw launcher. This does not answer my question but better now. Still have to fiddle with it... Best!

You have to press the menu button while being in app drawer. then press config just as when you deinstall apps from your drawer. Now you can drag and drop whatever you want

Multitasking Apps(O1)

Hey guys
Can anyone recommend any good multitasking apps to me?
Like one where u can long press the home button and see running apps, and then being able to close or terminate it. The apps do not necessary have to have these features, its just an impression of my ideal multitasking app

Try smart taskswitcher.long press search key to recant, running, favorite etc.
Search MultiTasking lite/pro (i use the pro version) on the market. In my opinion is the best. BTW in cm settings (if you use cyanogenmod) you can set an app as long home key shortcut.
This is my personal favorite.

[Q] How do you remap "Search" to App Switch (like the Galaxy Nexus)?

Like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21501238
I think it would be much more convenient to use the search button rather than a long press on the Home button. How can we achieve this on Andromadus ICS or Virtuous Quattro? That would be awesome.
I tried using the CM9 android.policy.jar in Andromadus, but it just shows the old pre-4.0 recent apps menu.
Go to apps and themes and see if the guide there is what you need

Hmm, didn't even see that. He even posted the same link as me, lol.
Delete this thread I guess

How can I remap "recent apps" button to menu and remove those ugly three dots?

How can I remap "recent apps" button to menu and remove those ugly three dots?
Googled and searched the forums for a bit and couldn't find anything specific to the n10. I honestly can't think of a time when I've ever used the recent apps button. I remember my hox phone had the same thing before, and I was able to use a mod somebody wrote to change the behavior. Any ideas? Sorry if this has been asked before.

Well, on stock & AOSP ROMs, the soft-keys on the navigation bar are configurable if you decompile and modify SystemUI.apk or if you build it with the changes from source... AOKP has the option of allowing you to choose and customise the soft-keys and their click and long-press actions...
Oops forgot, I'm on cm10.1 nightly builds ATM.

I hate to bump my own topic, but has nobody really done this? Can somebody explain how to modify button behavior and I can just do it myself, I guess?

What the rip?
You want to delete the "menu" button? I've never heard of doing such a dumb thing.
And you have NEVER used recent apps? That's plain crazy.
Swiped from my Nexus 10 using xda-developers app
I don't want to remove the menu button, I want to move it to where the recent apps button is now. Currently it's in a different place in every app. The recent apps button also can do precisely nothing that can't be done with the home button. I find the three dot menu button ugly and distracting, especially in apps which weren't designed with a lack of hardware menu button in mind. I don't think that's "dumb" at all. Does anybody have a helpful suggestion or am I doomed to trying to figure it out on my own?

Is this possible? Nav buttons in notifications tray?

I've seen the apps and edits to remove or replace the navigate buttons (home, back, recent apps) or even move them to the side... But what about moving them entirely to the notifications tray? Is this a bad idea?
For the videos and apps that remove the tray, there could be a hot corner or gesture to bring it back up. Should I have patented this idea before posting?

That's called tablet ui.

Patent it or not, Apple would still steal it.

Tablet UI would bring it to the statusbar. Not the notification area.
To the OP: this would be bad for accessibility. Imagine using an app that requires you to double press back to exit. You would neet to pull down the notification area twice... just to close an app.

Fullscreen app gives you two hot corners, replacing the back/home, but I found I kept accidently hitting the corners within other apps or surfing, no matter whether I put them top or bottom. I ended up using Pie Control app, customised with Nav buttons to solve the problem. LOVE the huge screen via fullscreen.

Wow sorry for my late reply everybody. Thank you for you feedback. I haven't looked at tablet ui but I will. I have installed GMDs auto hide nag buttons. I like it. Sometimes. One thing I do not like is that the menu button for apps like Chrome are automatically moved to the navbar. I know I can turn it off but the menu button is just gone. Not a huge deal but I also don't like how it is sometimes less responsive than the stock navbar. Either way, I'm still shopping.

You should try AOKP rom which you can toggle phablet and tablet UI, I've been using this feature since 4.1.
As for in app menu button, there is in option called "Show menu UI overflow" in the rom to enable it.
