Need updated PC36IMG.zip file To Un-Root My Phone. - EVO 4G General

Hi Everyone,
My Specs:
Phone - Evo 4g
Android Version: 2.2
Build#: 3.29.651.5
I rooted my phone with Unrevoked 3
Now I would like to UN-root my phone.
I used this link below.
ww.youtube.com/watch?v=guHo_FbSy8Y&feature=related
I was able to run the unrevoked-forever-son.zip with no problem at all.
BUT when I tried to flash the PC36IMG.zip it says "Main Version Older" it would not load.
Does anyone has a updated PC36IMG zip file I could used?

in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141
there is a newer one that works great, just dont remember which post it was in there
look through and you will find it, i did mine last week and no problems

Its on page 20 of djr3z's unroot guide

NO NO NO.... Do not use that pc36img. Your phone was shipped with software version 3.29xxxx, that pc36img is for software version 3.30xxx which is ONLY shipped on new phones that have different camera hardware.

Thank You!
Luckily I backed up my stuff because it wiped everything.

look in the evo 4g wiki in the evo section and download the correct ruu.exe for your phone. then just run the ruu and voila unroot.

Official Eris RUU

Just in case you need it, here it is.

This is the Dec 11th update?
Yes but it is the full ruu not just the update if you use this you will loose all of you data and settings.
This may be a work around for those experiencing problems since the update.
this works great for the phone os issues caused by the update. but there are apps in the market that cause your phone to freak out. it's not the eris's fault or the apps fault. when upgrades happen like the way htc did this one it bound to cause some apps to freak out cause of the update. htc has no obligaton to support these apps either that's on the app creator to fix htc is only fixing it's own issues.
this is the reason why htc doe not like quick patches to thier phones. if you look at the history of the dream/G1 this is the first quick patch other than 1.30. because 1.29 allowed root level commands in the contacts area but that was to fix that problem not to fix customer complaints. i just hope htc goes back to the we'll get you a patch when we get you a patch mentality. cause it seems less problematic that way.
just my feelings

I've got the EXE if you have something/somewhere I can upload it to?
You could use megaupload? Or try uploading it to this site aka xda?
If I were to just install the 2.1 leak wouldn't that do basically the same thing? Or is this easier?
The RUU in this thread was for MR1, which is still Android 1.5. I think you're looking for the newer RUU: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Des...WWE_2.36.605.1_release_signed_with_driver.exe
Ok so if I download that what do I do with it to unroot?

Attach your phone to your computer with the USB cable, and run the RUU program in Windows. It will wipe all data from your phone and return it to the stock 2.1 software, complete with the 1.49 S-ON bootloader, the default recovery image, and no root.
If you want to re-root from there, you'll have to use one of the new root methods, since your phone will be identical to the phones that Verizon is currently shipping out (with Android 2.1), not the original Android 1.5 version of the software.
Awesome, thanks a ton.
i am trying to use this to unroot my phone so i can send in for a replacement and it goes through all the checks and verifications. it rebbots to the bootloader then while updating signiture i get error 140 bootloader version error saying the rom update utility cannot update your android phone please get the correct rom update utility and try again?? if this doesnt work is there another easy way to unroot?

If you get a version error, you need to first run jcase's "Flash any RUU" hack.**
Note that (strictly speaking) jcase should have entitled his post "Flash any PB00IMG.zip ROM" because of another small complication: some ROMs do not have a compatible version of the "reboot" command (the RUU utility first uses the reboot command to put the phone into oem-78/RUU mode). If you insist on using the RUU utility, you can overcome this minor problem by first flashing a compatible ROM, such as PlainJane.
But, it is just as easy to flash the Leak-V3 PB00IMG.zip ROM, which produces the identical result as the "Official" RUU.
Note also that if you have used the RUU utility, them you already have USB drivers installed on your PC, and so getting adb running on the PC does not require setting up the full-blown SDK (you don't need Eclipse set up) : just download the SDK, unzip it, and you are ready to rumble.
To reiterate: if you get a version error, you need to run jcase's "Flash any RUU" hack first; after that, you can either run the HBOOT+Leak-V3 PB00IMG.zip install, or the RUU. The PB00IMG.zip method has no dependencies, and is somewhat easier.

** Note there is a minor mistake in the instructions given in the OP of the "Flash any RUU" thread; be sure to read the first dozen posts or so - the correction is given.

This is the exe that I used to restore my Eris from Kaos Froyo to Stock 2.1. All I did was run the exe file and follow simple prompts. It took about 10-15 mins and the Eris was ready to return to VZW.

[poll] got hardware ver 0003? Got root?

I recently upgraded to the Evo from the Hero. Over the last few days, it seems like a trend has been developing. Folks with hw version 0003 and sw per 3.39 have had a very hard time gaining root. Vote in my pole and tell me how it went for you. If you HAVE had success, let us know what worked for you. Again, this pole is for folks w/ hardware version 0003 who purchased the phone with 3.30 installed, and hboot 2.02 s-on
Those of you that managed to get rooted and flashing, what method did you use??
I followed this guide. Make sure you have adb working and you have the files in the right folders.

Not yet. It goes great up to the point where I flash PC36IMG.zip, but when that is flashing, it throws an error during the radio v2 update (fail-pu) and instead of skipping bootloader, like it says in the guide, it tries to update and throws an error there, too (fail-ic). After this, it finishes the flash. I can get to recovery, I can even flash a custom recovery, but when I try to boot, it just hangs at the white HTC splash. To get it to boot, I hafta run the ruu. S-off sticks, so unrevoked is working, but I don't have root, and I can't flash custom roms. I have checked my md5sum, adb communicates correctly. Something about the pc36img file just doesn't work with my phone. I will say, the pc36img in Dan's thread doesn't throw the errors, but I still couldn't boot afterwards. Think I'm gonna step away from rooting for a day or two and just enjoy my new phone. I'll come back at this when I'm fresh, not so frustrated.
I can confirm tejasrichard's findings. Used the same method above. It threw me the radio error when flashing PC36IMG.zip. adb could not perform the rename in step 15 after this, but did accept the recovery command. Step 16 worked (no step 17), but in Step 18, the recovery failed and froze on the white HTC splash. Manually put the Amon RA and radio updates onto the SD card and flashed that sucesfully, but still froze on the HTC Splash. Had to flash back into 3.30 ruu.
I did go back and try unrevoked3 and the process said it completed, however hboot gave an error on the last step when going into the clockwork recovery and looking for the unrevoked-forever.zip files. I did reboot it and it completed a boot into something similar to 3.30 ruu with a different background. Superuser app is present.
Confirmed no root, but still have S-OFF.

I voted without reading this part. "purchased the phone with 3.30 installed"
I have 003, and am a flashaholic. But I purchased mine two days after launch.
Similar experience
Adding to the thread here. Pretty new to all this. I banged my head against the wall for hours rooting my new EVO bought just a couple days ago. (hw version 003)
Managed to get S-off using Method 3 (which I think has been edited to be the only method as it's been the most reliable) from the thread...
'[TOOL][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF'
Once I had S-OFF I thought I was golden. However, I could not flash any roms through recovery. Tried Fresh, Myn, Ava...kept getting errors. Always, it was back to RUU. The only thing that has worked for me thus far was using the 'Sprint Lovers' rom at this thread:
'[ROM] 11/07/10 | SPRINT LOVERS | 2.2 | 3.30.651.2 | Radio/Wimax/PRI All-In-One'
Not sure what's different about this Rom but it loads as a PC36IMG.zip file from Bootloader and not through recovery. I'm then able to boot the phone normally. Superuser, Wifi hotspot, swype, 4g, camera works fine...nice. It's basically stock Sense with rooted goodness. I actually love it and have tweaked the phone beautifully.
HOWEVER, I'm almost certain that i'm not fully rooted. (Maybe partially Nand unlocked) I have no idea. I've had to reload the ROM 3 times because I decided to go into recovery for one reason or another and gotten stuck in boot loop hell always going back to recovery. ARG!! Not sure the reason for that. I tried so many things early on that I cannot account for everything. I'm just going to roll with this ROM for now until the dust settles.
I'm following this thread closely:
'[GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF'
Supposed to downgrade your HBoot which I think may be the whole problem. We'll see. I don't have the energy to start from scratch again. I'm actually quite happy with Sprint Lovers.
Thanks for the info! I'll try that ROM soon as I can and see if it works for me.

What does this mean exactly?

PermROOT said:
Hello Phateless do you remember me? lol I am always on diff name so ya.
But yes PD15IMG.zip is not the golden solution to everything. It all depends on how you originally rooted your MT4G as VISIONary+ (TempROOT) and root.sh (PermROOT). In that case your S=OFF security off flag is dependent on the eng hboot which was pushed to /dev/block/mmcblk0p18 during PermROOT.
Now since its not true security off once you have newer radio. You try to run PD15IMG.zip (Sense 2.2.1 Rom/Radio 26.03.02.26_M) after the first update which is stock hboot you would be locked due to it changing S=ON thus on next step it will fail due to the image being older than originally on which is currently flashed which would be the radio. In this case your in a point where you shouldn't be as you can be locked out and no way to reroot. which I am working on finding. This also goes for gfree radio s=off.
If you do want to go back download PD15IMG.zip (stock radio 26.03.02.26_M) and then flash it once that is done then you can revert back to stock rom/radio using standard PD15IMG.zip (Sense 2.2.1 Rom/Radio 26.03.02.26_M). Keep in mind unless the new PD15IMG.zip is out you can't revert it back if your locked out due to source being outdated than current image.

Found this post here in THE Bible. Trying to understand exactly what it means.
What is he saying here?
Can someone put this into noob terms please?
THANK!!!
I am not sure how to explain it furthermore as when I posted that it was clear to everyone, but ill try to simplify.
The original stock rom that came with our device was 2.2.1S and later we had GB2.3.X port and we mostly switched. Then came the radio rom which I hope I don't need to explain what the image does. So the standard stock radio that came with our device was 26.03.02.26_M. So later on as Panache came out we had leak to other radios which user could flash, thus changing it from stock radio to leaked radio. I hope it make sense up to there.
Now keep in mind we have 2 type of root meth as one is via TempROOT/PermROOT as I explained before via VISIONary+ which just push the eng_hboot and gives the illusion of S=OFF but the true security is not off as that is only done if you do the other rooting meth which is PermaROOT which disables the radio security completely.
Now the problem few users faced was when they flashed the leaked radio and they wanted to revert back to stock rom/radio via PD15IMG.zip for our MT4G (IDD15000). The installation would fail only for folks who had root via PermROOT as they never had true S=OFF thus once the eng_hboot is replaced with stock bootloader the security is disabled thus user can't complete the second part of the process which would be flashing the radio. So only solution was that they first revert back to stock radio or wait for newer radio because the source of the image inside PD15IMG.zip was older than the radio.img that was already flashed inside user's MT4G.
I hope it explains if not well IDK how to explain any better man :O
So if I'm understanding this all correctly, how I find out if this will affect me?
Where and what information should I provide you in order to find out if this will happen to me as well.
I'm getting ready to send my phone in for an exchange and was looking to flash PD15IMG.zip before doing this when I came across this post.
I rooted my phone with Visionary R14 and Terminal Emulator.
What other info do you need? Please let me know. Thank you.
At this point it wont affect you as thats obsolete due to TMoUS releasing newer stock rom/radio for our MT4G few months ago as Panache radio leak is older than the current stock rom/radio. As its GB2.3.4S which comes with the newest radio which is newer than any radio you flash. So the source of the PD15IMG.zip if you have the newest one then it will always be newer or equal to the radio.img already in device and it means in simple term it will flash the 2nd part. I hope it make sense as it should not affect anyone now. Even if it does all they have to do is run the current new PD15IMG.zip and it will fix the issue which user faced few months back.

If this is all about going back for an exchange, i recently did just this. Please see my post on the topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241740
If all you did was the temproot/permaroot method via visionary+, and not the gfree method (gfree is actual s=off), then I believe some of the steps may be different. Specifically, you may be able to skip the whole bit about turning s=on again.
So which is it?
So rooted via Visionary R14 and being on Virtuous Unity (newest update)
I should be able to flash PD15IMG.zip from this link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863899
and have no problems yeah?
Sorry for all the questions. But yeah I'm only half to 75% following what you're saying.
I'm not advanced yet. =(
Thanks for the help again though.
Keep in mind PD15IMG.zip is the default system file for our device which is checked on the bootloader as our device ID is PD15000 thus getting the PD15IMG name. So PD15IMG.zip can be multi files as we have 2 of them 1 is 2.2.1 and newest one is 2.3.4 just look in the dev section you will find the newest PD15IMG.

unrooting gone wrong - need newest firmware

Alright, so today I tried unrooting my htc evo using the two step guide found here on the forums.
First I set my s-on using the method described, and then when I tried to update it said "update failed" and something about the firmware being too new.
I have no way of returning back to root right now because my unrevoked doesn't seem to recognize my phone right now. I'm on android 2.2 right now and anything less, my phone won't update to.
I think the only way of fixing this would be the newest signed, unrooted 2.3 update. Does anybody here have it? It should be about 180MB around and named PC36IMG.
I've looked pretty much everywhere for it. I really need to unroot for warrenty purposes.
thanks in advance, so much
Here you go...it was in dev section

Yeah, I used unrevoked. Hopefully this works, if not, I have no idea what I'm going to do.
if you flash the 4.53 pc36img.zip in hboot you should be good. lemme know
do I need to follow the entire ruu guide or can I just place an ruu update in the root of my sd card and load it from hboot?
everything went great. Thanks!

CANT update my stock rom, had custom rom before, HTC desire HD

Hello, i recoverd my HTC desire HD with clock work mod, i had my original rom backup since before so it was easy. Now my phone have this info in it:
Android 2.2
1.32.405.6
12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
When iam trying to update the ORIGINAL rom i get instantly a triangle with a "!" sign in it and nothing happens, whys that?
I have searched for some hours but no info on it, can it be becasue i might be rooted?
Updates will not work as you have modified the system partition.
If you find a suitable RUU to flash, this will revert the modifications and allow you to update.

Aha, okey then i need to read about RUU then i guess. Any good link for me? or ill just google, thanks!
Just search "RUU" in the DHD development forum. You should find a post by xmoo or football.
I took a original RUU and stil i cant update, anything more left that i missed? I mean i had original backup and everything before i took a custom room, is the impossible or what...
What did you do with the RUU? Did you run the ~.exe file?
I saw a thing now, i update RUU with a file size 10mb, file name was 1.32.406 something, is this only a OTA? I think i didnt get a RUU, iam abit confused ot the diffrent. Found a file now sayin RUU_ace_HTC... that is a big file, so i rename this to PD98IMG when i update?
The RUU should be atleast 200MB+ Its not an OTA. Its a complete package.
RUU = ROM Update Utility. You will need the one that matches you current firmware 1.32.405.x. Download it and run the ~.exe file. It will guide you through the process.
Thanks man for the help, i sorted it out and found a new RUU, the last one was an update or something weird =S. AFter som HTC sync problem finally it was solved, have been workin on this problem for a couple and month back and fourth to just get to original rom.

You could just flash this one made by Nitr00 and should get updates, should there even be any anymore, again.
