[Q] Question about root - Epic 4G General

Hello!
Trying to root my device. Installed the drivers. After connecting USB and checking "Debug" trying to run run.bat. Getting the error message "computer not connected to the device". If "debug" not checked I can see every file on the Android.
Please, can somebody help me what I need to do?
OS -- Windows Vista ultimate 64. Doing everything step by step how it says here.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Make sure you have the 64-bit Samsung drivers installed first.
After you install them reboot the pc and try again.
Also try z4 root it roots your phone automatically.
If z4root hangs dont worry just pull the battery it hangs more than 7 minutes
and run it again.

when you install z4root from the market place or better yet from this web link. reboot the phone first before you run z4root the first time.

Sure I installed the 64-bit drivers
Thank you! I'll try!
How about the apps for recovery, flashing etc.?

Unrevoked problems

Sorry to be a hassle, but I just can't figure this out!!
I've rooted my phone with the "new clarified method" thread, gotten to the clockwork mod and everything, but once I've done that I just cannot get the Unrevoked 2 to work. I've tried it on Windows 7, xp, and osx, and nothing seems to work! The main issue I'm getting is that it'll do the whole process, and then I think it says "reboot to recovery" and then I just get that old phone with a red triangle error. What could I possibly be doing wrong??? It can't be driver issues, because doesn't OSX do that automatically?
I had a similar issue on windows 7 and a simple pc reboot seemed to work for me.
Nope, still no luck. Am I supposed to put these Reflash files on the phone somewhere? I just feel like I'm missing some big step or something. Why is there no good tutorial on this process yet?
Oh my god I think I'm going to go insane! Please someone, point me in the right direction! I have done this hundreds of times now, I'm gonna die. All I can get is "Done!" and then my phone is showing me a big dumb red exclamation point triangle thingy. What am I doing wrong??????
Was I supposed to do something once I first reached the clockwork on my initial root? Cuz all I did was reboot to OS. I don't know if anybody can tell, but I'm kinda desperate. hah
Did you make sure that the phone is recongized in the device manager once plugged in? Need to help us out tell me what you have done so far? Did you install the SDK USB Drivers?
when at the command prompt, did you type adb devices? Does your device show up as connected?

I was having the same problem also until I ran reflash.exe and the command prompt both as admin. I also reran Android SDK installing all of the updates. After plugging in the phone, the SDK picked up two more updates, one of which was USB drivers. Once I did that, things seemed to have worked.
Use attn1's method. The clarified method didnt work for me properly.
I assume you never flashed a rooted rom after reaching clockwork mod. If not the phone is not yet rooted. You have to get back to clockwork recovery and flash a rooted rom (either attn1's liberated one or his stock rooted rom). Both found in his liberated thread. Then set up all the drivers for unrevoked and run it. It should work then.
When my phone is just sitting in bootloader, it is not recognized by adb devices.
You have to go through the whole loop process again booting your phone into recovery and connecting the usb cable.

Thats not good, try reformatting your sd card on your pc with an external reader not with your phone and try again. I'm almost certain it needs to be recognized by adb devices when in bootloader.
Just managed to install the Liberated beta ROM, but now unrevoked can't even get past superuser privelages. it's not popping up anymore
Nevermind, it gets past superuser now, but now it just says "waiting for reboot" and completely reboots the phone to the point at which i can use it regularly
Have you installed the hboot drivers?
Re-ran unrevoked?
Edit: Does it reach "done!"?
Yes, yes, and yes. And my phone just keeps getting to the red triangle. doesn't make any sense to me! And at this point, I'm positive I have no drivers getting in the way like Sync etc., and I'm sure HBoot is installed correctly.
Go to the android market and download titanium backup. It requires root so if it installs we know that you are at least rooted.
Try this, because I had the same problem. Go into device manager with Revoked2 says waiting for reboot. Look under devices above my computer or below cant remember and right click uninstall and remove the android device. reboot your computer then see if it installs are does it automatically, if not don't do anything just plug the phone in and get to hboot/ red triangle screen, then try revoked2 again. This finally got loop to read my device then when I got to clockwork I loaded "liberated rom"
Screw revoked2, just get to clockwork recovery and have liberated rom on your SD card ready to go. Then after install I ran revoked2 for clockwork mod.
Good Luck

Root intercept on froyo????

My friend has the samsung intercept and I was going to help him root it. I have tried Z4root and gingerbreak but they didn't work.
Does anyone have a site on how to root? Or instructions?
I am a very experienced android user and I am very comfortable with ADB if it is needed.
Anybody know?
Let's try again. Does anyone here know?
S.D.X. Everything you need to know for the intercept
Yes I found that method as well. We tried that about twenty times along with another 1 click at xda, z4, and gingerbreak. Is there an Adb method? Also, would rageagainstthecage work?

S.D.X. is a website S.D.X. developers They have several guides to rooting.I rooted mine with a programed called sw updater with my pc but now ther are easier ways.
Ok thank you I will check it out
You're going to need to run one (or several) of the root exploits (until they 'take') and then edit some files manually via adb to make it permanent. See the SDX Developers website as previously noted.
It won't let me post a link but Google this...
how-to-install-custom-kernelrom-on-your-intercept-using-cm01-recovery
I did it with SWUpgrade Tool, but...
1) Even though I could connect and swap files between my phone and my computer over USB, SWUpgrade for some reason would not recognize my USB connection on Windows XP SP 3. This page along with the Samsung driver link on the same page saved my ass...
Google this - Troubleshoot driver error June Fabrics android
2) With the SWUpgrade you have to be really quick and unplug the USB and take out the battery when he says to, or you will not get the custom recovery installed. It took me about 4 tries before I was able to get the custom recovery in my phone.
I previously did the rageagainstthecage method, and while it worked, at one point I stupidly took out the battery when it froze before I had put in a custom recovery and done a backup and I very nearly bricked my phone. It would not bootup after that no matter what. Fortunately I was able to boot into the Virgin Mobile recovery and start from scratch wiping and resetting my phone, but I had to re-download all my apps from the Market all over again which fortunately the Market kept a record of.
I used the first link for the kernel and I am very happy. Just take it slow, be careful, and follow the instructions exactly.

Great guide for noobs (like myself) to root Kindle

How's it going everyone. I just want to thank everyone for all their help and for putting up with me the past few days. I've been bugging everyone with question after question on how to root my kindle. When I first got my Kindle I knew I wanted to root it and have access to the android market and eventually flash some new roms so I hoped right over to the XDA site. When I got on the site, I was a little overwhelmed with all the information out there on what to do and how to get started. I was reading things like the Burrito root, utility, twrp, ect...
Well, I thought I'd try and help anyone who is in the same boat I was in. I was finally able to root my kindle last night with the help Jayceooi.
The steps that I took and the steps that might be easiest for people new to rooting:
I used the Kindle Fire Utility v.9.1 to root my device, install twrp (which is used if you want to back up your system, flash a rom, restore back to stock, ect.. its recommended to install), and install the android market and go launcher. My thanks goes out to the Jcase and Vashypooh.
1.) Before you try and use the KFU v.9.1 make sure you have the ADB driver installed (properly) and is running when the kindle is connected to the PC
I used Jayceooi's and adb driver file link (not the one that comes in the KFU zip) to install my driver. On his guide he states - "Why not use install driver feature in Kindle Fire Utility? There is an issue on Kindle Fire Utility v0.9.1. It will replace Kindle Fire USB Mass Storage driver. So you can’t use USB Mass Storage mode anymore if you install driver with Kindle Fire Utility." (Might be why alot of people are having problems trying to root)
2.) Once the driver is installed, then run the KFU v.9.1 and selection option 3. Hit enter and the utility does the rest.
3.) Intall TWRP - plug kindle back in and run KFU v.9.1 and selection option 5. Hit enter again and the utility will do most of the work. Make sure you read everything during the installation and wait until you hit reboot and see the yellow triangle before you press a key to continue. (watch the video in the link below and you will see what I mean.)
4.) Next I installed the android market, google apps, go launcher from the Utility too. Like i said, that utility is tits! run the utility again and select option 6 (extras) then 2 and it will do the rest.
This may be a redundant thread and get pushed out and I know a lot of the experienced guys might laugh at how lame, but If I had something like this to follow it would have really helped me out and saved alot of time. The guide that Jayceooi does is really nice and easy to follow.
I think the the installation of the correct driver is the biggest thing and what causes the most problems for people. so if you get that right, you should be in good shape. just follow the guides and it shouldn't be to hard
Step 1.) Install Kindle Fire ADB usb driver - http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/29/how-to-install-kindle-fire-adb-usb-driver-video/
Step 2.) Root kindle - http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/29/how-to-root-kindle-fire-with-burritoroot-video/
Step 3.) Install TWRP - http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/29/how-to-install-twrp-2-0-recovery-on-kindle-fire-video/

Good luck
Thanks a lot!
This is surely helpful for a newbie like myself
I hope it helps... from jumping from thread to thread in this forum, the biggest issue i was seeing the most was getting the correct driver to install. just make sure you get that step down and it should be pretty easy... knock on wood

This video is from the official burrito root guide in the kindle fire development section. It's a pretty easy to follow guide.

I'm not really a noob per-say, been around a good while actually. But your point in this post about the correct driver and you bringing everything together for a very easy to follow guide really did help. Thanks!
I actually had a weird issue where I wasn't seeing a yellow triangle for the ADB driver and just couldn't get root to take. Updating it did the trick (It needs to say 'Android Composite ADB Interface')
Yay! My backup just finished and I'm not stuck with a yellow sign. Success.
just got my KF today and I'll try this out tomorrow when i can get to my friends windows computer (virtualbox on my Mac doesnt like me.....)

You should be able to use the KFU to install the android market. once your plug the kindle into the pc and the driver is installed properly, run KFU v.9.1 Select option 6 (extras) then select option 2 (Google apps / go launcher) KFU should do the rest. If you want to manually downloand use this link http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...t=Click Here&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13252517466081
for some reason my Mac wont recognize my KF and my VirtualBox Windows won't either so i have to wait for a bit....
EDIT: nevermind
next issue, whenever i go into the Devices and Printers menu and then to the Kindle and into Properties, it only lists USB Composite Device. Could this be because i am trying to do this on an Windows 7 VirtualBox setup and not through a true W7 computer?

Glad it helped. Jayceooi did an awesome job. Like i said before, if you get the driver installed correctly the rest is a piece of cake

the driver was annoying cuz i tried to do it through a VirtualBox virtual machine but when i would plug it into my MacbookPro, i would have to unmount it from there and then it wouldnt recognize it properly in the Windows VM so i had to wait to get to a friends computer but it"s all good now

stuck at triangle
Got the triangle screen and following instructions in guides are not fixing it. Heres my scenario. I got my kindle with 6.2 on it. Got it rooted, installed market and go launcher and was great. Then the update of course came thru and broke root. Still been able to download market apps and use go launcher. So I followed this guide to regain root and install twrp. It says root is successful, but superuser force closes everytime trying to open or use it. I can open my tibu and root explorer and everything still gave me root access. Went and changed the MarketIntentProxy.apk to MarketIntentProxy.apk.bak so market links go to market by default. That worked. Noticed that all amazon apps downloaded have a default amazon icon. Thought nothing of it. Went to install twrp anyway. Stuck at triangle now. Followed all instructions to fix and the KFU keeps flashing error device not found constantly and device status unknown. What happened?

[Q] Problem in rooting.

i have official gingerbread 2.3.5.
i want to root my phone but no method works.
when i follow steps indicated to use superoneclick, the program goes on till step 7 and then stops responding.
i have tried one click root but makes issue of driver. i have installed drivers from many places, even from where the one click program states. still no success.
when i try to use the boot.img method, i cant do it because when after the pressing the keys to enter the pink screen, when i connect it to the pc, no drive shows up into the computer so i cant copy the boot.img file.
i dont know what is the problem. No rooting method is working.
by the way i have installed wondershare mobilego software for android on pc.(Do you think this could make a problem). And on my phone i am using go launcher(Do you think this is making problem). By the way my phone randomly restarts and shutsdown (the reason why i am switching to cyanogen mod). Do you think i should first again do a clean install of gingerbread then do all this rooting and flashing of cyanogen. Please respond quickly.
(If there is a problem of drivers, kinldy post the link that HAS the drivers in it that will allow me to root)
A big thanks in advance!
Did you try with Z4root? I think it works well on Gingerbread. You can try to "downgrade" to your stock rom and then update to GB.

I had this problem with SuperOneClick. Happens because all steps are not done properly. Make sure you do all steps and before using SuperOneclick make sure you reboot your phone.
If that doesn't work then PM me and I will send you proper steps.
Good Luck.:good:
