[Q] Mytouch wont restartq - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently got this the device and I rooted it yesterday. I took out some bloatware and tried partitioning my sd card. The removing of the bloatware was a success but the apps to the sd card wasn't. I didnt mind that though so I tried doing the update to get the wi fi back on my phone. It wouldnt go because it said I had removed the bloatware. So I just let my phone be for the night when I woke up it read that I have a update coming in. So I tried it and from there my phone wouldnt come back on. An if it did itd be on the homescreen for about a min before rebooting. So I tried clearing the data cache and system then I uploaded a zip file fast booted it so it can update the phone it went through. But still it won't get past the mytouch 4G screen. Any suggestions thanks.

Also I had S-off but when it updated it put S-on so whats my next option

Have you flashed clockwork recovery? Have you done a nandroid backup? If so I would just get into recovery mode and restore the backup or try doing a factory reset from there.. power off> hold vol. down + trackpad + power button> release power button> use vol. down, vol. up to scroll.
Edit: Nvm, I think since you have s-on that may not be possible :/

Yeah I tried doing a downgrade a regrade of the same update factory reset adb shell loop fastboot nada oh well since its new Ill just blame it on the update an hope for the best.

Out of the Ordinary! Stuck at G1 Screen. Cannot even factory reset!

Okay, so to start off, my G1 was rooted RC33 with JF 1.42. Being a complete idiot, I left my G1 in my pocket and did the laundry.
Since that incident, my g1 was stuck at the G1/tmobile logo. I tried getting a new G1 but I didn't know they had a water sensor .
I did the multitouch hack so when I hold home + power, it shows lines of code and eventually to JF's recovery screen.
Any help?
Edit: Oh I also tried flashing my phone with different things several times but it says "Finding update package, opening update package, Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (bad), installation aborted. EVERY TIME!!
Factory reset isnt working either. OH! Okay, So factory reset does work but I can't tell since it's forever stuck at the G1 screen.
Idc if i lose my apps, i just want my G1 back. I'm willing to lose everything on my G1.
I tried making the update folder an actual zip and tried just renaming it. neither worked.
I think you might be a little off on the way you are doing the flashing. You are supposed to leave it zipped and just rename it to update. Do not unzip it by any means, just rename it update and transfer it to your sd card. Boot up into recovery by holding home + power, once in recovery press and hold alt and press W then press and hold alt and press S. Good luck.

help

today i messsed my phone up, and now it well turn on and you see the m and then it goes off and it will also enter recovery sceen. i reflashed the spf and it still does not work. it will go to the motorola symbol and then flashes and then restarts it will not going to the little att animation or anything. please help
If you are getting to the recovery screen have you tried a reset from there? Is it stock recovery?
Seems like you messed up running my scripts. Power off your phone, remove your SD card, power back on, you should be okay.
yes it is the stock recovery and i removed my sd card and it is still doing it, i performed at least 10 data wipes and its still doing it
Recovery isn't what you want, it won't do anything useful for this. Get to the bootloader (hold the up arrow while turning on the phone) then use RSD Lite or sbf_flash to flash with the stock SBF.
Relax, everything will be okay.
i did that, i just ended up calling and there sending me a replacement

Bricked Evo... stuck at bootscreen, wont boot into recovery

I just partitioned my SD card and flashed a new rom (RunnyBliss HybriD) tonight. Everything was working fine, I just reinstalled all of my apps and everything was perfect. I went to unplug my phone from the computer (which was on charge only) and just unplugged it. After that, all of the apps I downloaded were gone and the home screen pages that I just setup were gone. I decided to reboot and see what happens and to my surprise it wouldnt boot back up. It is stuck at the white "htc evo 4g" screen. I tried to boot into recovery and it vibrates 3 times and then does nothing. I assume that the phone was actually in USB mode and I corrupted the usb by removing it without ejecting it. Long story short, I have an Evo that doesn't work and I dont know what to do. My computer wont recognize it so I cant access the SD card. Please help.
Correction: If I press volume down I can get into hboot. What do I do from here?
try to install a recovery via the bootloader
How would I do this?

I'm kind of new to this but, in HBOOT there should be a recovery option, select that and recover the latest backup.
EDIT: If Recovery doesn't load then I'm at a lose, sorry.
I figured it out. I got a new micro usb and placed AmonRA on it and then booted into recovery, then went to usb mode and dropped a new rom on it and flashed. Big bam all fixed

VS980 Bricked after factory reset through TWRP...Please help

So basically my phone was stock but rooted and modded slightly with volume boost, camera mod, and the multi window mod as well. Other than that its all stock and never flashed a Rom on it. The phone ran smooth about 90% of the time but there were little quirks here and there that kind of bugged me. For example, every once in a while the screen wouldnt wake up after being locked via button or double tap. Wifi wouldnt respond randomly unless I reset my phone. Things of that nature, but anyhow I decided maybe hard reseting my phone might clear up some of these issues. I got into TWRP from AutoRec, and checked off everything except internal storage. I believe they were Davlik, Cache, System and obviously it didnt work out for me. I feel like me checking off the system is what did it because it wasnt considered a basic swipe at that point. Anyhow I cant get to recovery, download mode or anything of that sort. Everytime I hold down the power button it just resets and brings me back to the LG logo and just sits there while the led lights keeps rotating colors. Is my phone done for?
edit: Oh yea one last thing, I remember when I went to reboot it I somehow ended up being asked if I wanted to install SuperSU and I said yes. And than at that point it went to restart my phone and got stuck.

You wiped system. That's your rom. Don't wipe system unless you plan on flashing a rom. You should still be able to get back to recovery. From phone powered off state ( hold power and volume up when lg logo is on). Hold power and volume down, when lg comes on, release both, then hold both again. You should now be at the factory reset screen. Press power three times (it's not going to factory reset). You should be in recovery. From here, restore your backup. If you don't have a backup, you just found out the reason why you should always have a backup. If you don't have a backup, you're going to need to install a rom via adb or otg (assuming your recovery is up to date). You can also tot or kdz back to stock (wipes sdcard though).

Can't get past TWRP

Phone was working fine yesterday. Went to sleep and woke up to the phone booted into recovery. Now I can't get it to reboot past recovery. Anyone know why this happened or how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Check and see if system is mounted. Also are you sure that it didn't attempt an update last night?
The EXACT same thing happened to me this morning! Unfortunately I had to get to class before I could figure out how to fix it. When I get back home tonight I will try to get my phone to boot like normal and will tell you how I did it.

I have no way of knowing if it attempted an update last night. I was asleep. I tried restoring a nandroid backup from 8 days ago and it still won't boot past TWRP.
Help please! I'm at the Cleveland Clinic with my wife and just found out that my grandmother died today and have to drive back to Michigan tonight. I need a phone and Waze!

I'm sorry to hear, but glad I'm not alone in this. Hopefully we can figure something out.
Sorry about your lose. But click mount and see if system is checked. That's what happened to me before. Making sure system was checked let me boot back up.
If that doesn't work plug your phone into your comp if possible and check to make sure you still have everything on your phone. Another time I had accidently wiped everything and only way to get back up was using the kdz

I checked system under mount, rebooted and still won't go past TWRP.
Have you tried power on and volume down to go through the factory reset screens.
A bunch of us had this problem and it was because an update downloaded on it's own and the bootloader snoops it out and forces recovery to boot.
Just do the volume down + power button - as soon as you see the lg logo release power only then immediately re-press power and continue holding power and volume down until the factory reset screen pops up. Select yes and yes, (don't worry - if you have twrp recovery it can't reset). It will boot you into TWRP and I'm pretty sure it will delete the update files in fota folder.
In TWRP select reboot - system and it should boot normally like nothing happened.

Dude, I love you. I'm back! Just in time for my 3 hour drive home!
if this dosnt work
use twrp file manager to go find the fota and mis folders,
or boot into fastboot and send these comands
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase fota
data/mis
data/fota
something like this is its path.
data/etc/misc
data/etc/fota
this 2 spots have the update commands that cause twrp loop.
i have a help post in my rom with full walkthrough.
Bootloop into TWRP recovery
Thank you so much, I too was having a panic attack after I flashed a custom rom and it some how altered this and put me in a boot loop into TWRP. I had a couple of questions in regards to ROMS that have native tethering enabled. 1. Is there one that allows Native tethering enabled for sprint? and 2. Is there one that you can update the PRL and profile settings and also one that does use an APN that has DNS issues and a proxy that blocks certain sites? currently I downloaded the ROM that is on the Dirty Santa site its called LS997-deODEXd-signed and it has a hidden proxy that blocks DNS from certain sites also you cannot update.

Download one of my 11 roms ive currently put out.
they all work 100% as far as dns stuff
for tether you need to add the "dun" to your apns. There isnt currently a built in mod.
as well as using shortcut master to add the "dun" to your apns also gets you to where you can change them
prl and profile updates work also as well as fm radio, wifi calling, fingerprint, comfort view etc.

I had to do this again today. This is not good. How can we stop this? I rely on my phone as an alarm clock and this could really screw me if it happens again at night.
Have you frozen or disabled the apps that look for updates?
Supposedly this is what causes it. The bootloader looks for update files in the folders where updates are downloaded and if it finds a file there it reboots recovery.
You have to remove those files, ( I think it automatically deletes them if you go through the factory reset process with the volume down, power button sequence).
And you have to freeze or disable the update apps.
These are the apps I froze. The 3 near the bottom that are blue.
i did this https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/help/lg-v20-access-to-fastboot-t3557328
Most bootloops are caused by an update file residing on the internal memory. It is not necessary to do all of the stuff in that post. You just need to do the volume down / power button trick to go through the 2 factory reset screens.
