Hello Everyone.
Ive been updating and rooting my Vibrant since before its release. Im not sure what happened to my device but I updated to one of Bionixs 2.2 Roms and it ruined my GPS. I have tried all things. Master resets, Odin, older Nan Backups. Im not sure if I fried my GPS radio or what the deal is but I cant seem to flash the JI2 GPS settings. So I want to start fresh. Can some one explain to me the best way to odin back. When Im in odin, should I check the Re-Partition Box? What is the best stock non rooted odin file to get back to?
Thanks!

Do not repartition the drive. Leave the file system intact. Use the latest version of ODIN to get back to Stock

Sweet... Now.. Is there such a thing as a GPS fix? I keep on hearing things. But even if I flash the Bionix fusion Rom and check the GPS settings, It does not reflect the Google. settings the rom reports to have. Am I doing something wrong?

GPS FIX THAT WORKED WONDERS FOR ME!
I have never had an issue with GPS until I flashed ODIN JI6. I could be outside 45 minutes and never get a lock... stock JI6, Eugene's or sombionix's ROMs.. nada. I was PM'd by kdf2833 about a GPS fix for the JI6 (no clue if it works for JFD, I would assume so). He told me to go read THIS POST from digatltoddy. Below is the post if you do not want to leave the thread:
You'll need to get into LBSTestMode by entering *#3214789650# from the dialer. Press Delete GPS Data, this will get rid of the bad GPS information that is probably still stored in your phone. Go to Application Settings and set the Start Mode to 'Cold Start'. Reboot your phone and go outside, run an app like GPS Test and let it lock onto as many birds as it can, once you get a good number (at least 5), go back into your LBSTestMode --> Application Settings and set the Start Mode back to 'Hot Start', reboot and all should be merry.
I had major issues w/ my GPS and was able to put this together with the help of various posts and a deeper understanding of how GPS on these phones actually works. Hope this helps!
Also, it's probably best to run the GPS Test application while you are driving around, let it lock onto as many birds as it can (I'd say let it run for a few minutes, I was able to get 9 the first time) before setting it back to 'Hot Start'. This way it will keep these birds in the list and allow you for a faster lock afterwards.
** If this works for you too, and boy did it for me, please thank digitaltoddy and let me know in this thread - good or bad so I know **
Another option to fix your GPS.

I did this about 4 days ago and have since done sooo much reading and researching, I am having trouble with my specific issue though.
I was basically just rooted/unlocked on ji6 with some cosmetics and decided I wanted to play around with some features as I am fairly new to Android. So the kid in me decided to pull the ol' "what's this button do" so I got what I deserved.
1st, at reboot the tmo screen and the galaxy screen boot up but then it goes to the black screen and only the bottom buttons light up.
Researching I Odin a stock JFD as per the many threads on here but it gave me the same end result.
Continuing my research I found on here many have had success with Odin to Eugenes 2.2 then back to JFD. I HAD success with getting 2.2 to boot up but I would then go to JFD and be back at square one.
Something I am noticing is that once in 2.2 I cannot install apps, the application space reads as 0.00 so it's telling me to remove some apps which I also cannot. I was going to try to install clockwork mod and see if I could get to the recovery console but I cannot.
Please advise, I am not sure what other info is needed as I am still a little green in the Android field and learning. The plus to this is Tmo accidentally sent me another phone so I am basically just using the bricked phone for all my newbie mistakes.

Are flashing eugene's unofficial froyo or eugene's froyo that doesnt brick? Never done the repartition personally but I've read others posts who have. I think you use the froyo that doesn't brick, without checking repartition in odin, then flash the stock jfd with checking repartition in odin. Good luck hope you get it back up and running.
Sent from my Vibrant running Macnut R10
Load Odin with the 512.pit file along with JFD.tar and check the repartition box. This should get your phone back to working properly.
There is a thread here that I thought I saved but did not that have instructions and links to the proper froyo and jfd. Says something to the fact of dl 512 and jfd then dl links in eugenes thread, use froyo 1st THEN reflash to jfd. I will try to search it back, I am sorry for being vague on this part.
EDIT: found it:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745547
I have flashed with partition, without partition. With card in phone, without card in phone. With sim in without sim in. Combinations of all three.... this has become quite the taxing experience. Only saving grace is I have a working spare Vibrant with Axura on it running oh so smooth.
BTW, when in Eugenes froyo, I also cannot log into google to get to the market. I can get online through the web wirelessly but logging into google says try later. weird? related?
Another issue I have, as I was just going to send it back in and hope they thought it was a software issue, I cannot lock the phone back. I enter in the code and it pauses about 10 seconds and rejects it. I can successfully re-write the lock code but it still rejects it in the phone. I am curious if this has to do with the partition not working.
Ugh, this is driving me insane now. Is there a way to force this phone backed to locked? I am just going to send it in flashed to the JFD stock and play stupid if I can lock it back up.
Unless someone has some more solutions for the above issues lol. I would of course LOVE to be able to "fix" if just for the learning experience.
what is exactly are you trying to do? you want to lock the phone?
The phone is sim unlocked, I want to lock it back so I can just send it in if I cannot fix this partition issue. The problem I am having is that it will not accept the lock code I give it.
To unlock it I used the adb method of "repairing" the nv_data.bin file allowing me to make a custom lock/unlock code which worked to unlock it. It will now not allow me to lock it back, it rejects the code.
Well, I purchased my epic 4g on launch day. I have had a blast with it but it did get pretty mundane for me very quickly. This is were I began searching for cool things to do to the phone to fit me and my lifestyle. I rooted it and installed an overclock kernal. Anyway, my problem is i believe that I have "bricked my phone". I was searching for ways to enable wifi tethering. I came across some other kernals, and began the process of returning phone back to factory specs and install the kernal. It seemed to work fine until my phone began to freeze. It would freeze about 1-2 minutes of being turned on. I began to search and came across odin. Well apparantly I do not know how to work odin correctly, because now my phone only shows a cell phone...! (in orange yield sign)...PC. (cellphone ! PC). I would greatly appreciate anybody that is able to get me out of this bind. I do love and cherish my phone, now regretting me messing around with this. thanks
Can you get into download mode? Hold the 1 on the keyboard while powering on. If you can, you should still be able to flash back to a stock rom.
I am able to go into download mode. I am currently downloading the stock rom. how do you flash into clockwork? volume down, camera, and power button equals green text.
Hopefully this is what you need...
If you can get into download mode, you should be able to save your phone.
Just follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
It should fix your phone right up, I used it myself just this morning. I learned the hard way you have to be careful with custom ROMs
Also, why overclock it? It's already 1GHz, the fastest market processor in a phone. IMHO, overclocking a 1GHz is unnecessary and only wears out your hardware faster.
Phone is up and running. Now the problem that I have is that there is a circle with a line through it and i am unable to get online or make any calls.
sounds like you're missing a modem? You'll need to flash one.

If you flashed the DI18 tar it includes the modem (god knows I've flashed this more time's I'd like to admit)...
What did you flash in ODIN exactly? Can you tell us step by step what you did?
I'd like to hear the step-by-step too. I followed all the steps to the letter in that thread I linked to, and have had no problems with my phone since.
Clarification...
When you followed the steps in the thread I linked, did you use the stock kernel, or the other one that wipes everything?
After I pseudo-bricked my Epic, only the one that wipes everything worked.
...To try some of the other roms.
As for which rom to try? Any suggestions ?
My two requirments are 1) the ability to restore to current state if I don't like the new Rom and 2) full recovery of all MMS/SMS/Call Logs no matter which Rom. It's the last bit that I've not been able to find any clear and consice info on so anything you guys can offer will be very appreciated.
Otherwise, I think I'm looking for what most are; speed, working gps and extended battery life. A bonus would be the return of the ability to double tap Search button to bring up "global search". I hate having to exit an app just to do a reference type search.
I will admit that the Rom/Kernel/Modem thingy is still a bit fussy to me but I was able to get far enough to flash and root DK28. I have CWM and Titanium backups. Also, I've managed to work through most DK28 issues, except for lag in accessing the SD which makes the launcher slow. The user experience was actually noticibly faster on DI18 And of course the dead GPS( I tried Mammon's fix but it did nothing for me). Oh and on 12/26 I lost PRL updates stopped working

Anyone hae any suggestions or advice?
As far as roms go I would check out this thread since people are talking about their favorite set up. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894253
You should be able to back up your call logs and such through Titanium and such but I don't remember how but I am sure if you look through it you should be able to figure it out.
Just a word of advice when you do a nandroid it does not back up your kernel so I would possibly suggest flashing the rom you were on before hand before restoring a nandroid just to make sure everything works properly again. There might be an easier way but I am not sure.
fyi questions should be posted in the q&a section.
also like i tell everyone w/e roms works best for someone else can work like **** for you. you best bet is to flash each rom untill you find one you like.
been having some problems with my phone lately and just wondered if anyone else has encountered these. first off it seems to stop playing any media files whatsoever. i have a bunch of music on it and the player just cycles through and says its not supported. youtube always brings up the error message that the video can not be played. i turn the phone off and on and it works after that but around 24 hours later i'm back to the same thing. also tried using kies to download the 2.2 update but that sucks and doesn't work. would like to root but have no idea where to begin and am afraid i'll screw the phone up. does anyone have an explanation as to what my problem can be and the best way to get 2.2 on this phone?
1st things 1st, Go to the noob guide by S15274N in the Gen section. It has all the info you need. Read it..........
Here is basically what you will do:
Make sure you have the Samsung USB drivers loaded on your computer (found in the noob guide)
Download superonclick to Root the phone (on to the computer)
On the phone download rom manager (from the apps store)
Follow the directions from superoneclick (look at unlockcr.com good how to video)
After you root the phone then decide what to load as far as a custom ROM. I would Try the Trigger or Axura, they both very stable Download on to the computer
Then hook up the phone on to the computer Make sure you connect the usb
(the pulldown at the top) make usb debugging is clicked.
Load the rom on to the Internal sd card and then go to the Rom manager and click reboot into into recovery.. install it wait 15 mins to install and you are good to go
READ the NOOB guide it is complete this is just an outline.
good luck
well i'll give it a read and see if i have enough balls to do it. thanks

I'm having these same exact problams and it is very frustrating. Also the video recorder will stop working I found.
So you are using 2.1? I've gone up to 2.2 using kies. I can't remember when I went to 2.2, but my guess is this has been happening since then.
In the past week I've been on the phone way too long with Tmobile support. They say that they have never heard of this (apparently I'm not the only one though) and had me try a master reset. That didn't work and the only solution seems to be to reboot the phone. Am I the only one who thinks having to reboot within 24 hours is ridiculous?
So now that they have sent me 3 phones, they directed me to Samsung which wanted to try the same Master Reset. I know that will only temporarily fix the problem so the next step is to send the phone in. How is that suppose to work? Have no phone for a week.
I guess I could ask Tmobile to do it for me and give me a loaner, but I think it is time to go with a custom ROM.
So is anyone else having the problems we are having? We can't be the only two. Is the stock 2.2 just bad and I will be better served with a custom ROM?
I was hoping to avoid this, but the phone is pretty much crap to me now anyway, so I guess what can I lose?

IMO stock from samsung have never been very impressive especially when compared to all the custom roms out here. The simplest roms to flash will be the kb1 based roms such as Trigger, Axura or Bionix (in no particular order).
Your phone will feel completely different and you will likely gain a new found appreciation for it, so go flash a custom rom

Thanks for the advice. After reading through the steps and getting lost at only the 2nd step of rooting, I think I'll just stick to stock and deal with the problems.
Not ideal, but I'm just not in the mood to put that much into a phone anymore. Maybe I'm just lazy, but I'd like to have a program that will do all the steps of getting a new ROM on my device. I feel overwhelmed by having to maintain a ROM.
Its not as hard as you think. Just use superoneclick to get root access, download rom manager , download the rom you want on your sd then reboot into recovery from root manager and chose your rom from the sd.

Give this a look

So I recently got my Note 3 DE and have noticed a lot of garbled sounds when I try to use the thing as a phone. Kind of sucks that my new phone doesn't work so well as a phone.
I've got a spigen case on it if that makes a difference. Is there anything I can do to improve reception or signal strength? Different radio to flash or a better rom for a cell phone signal perhaps? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
You on MJ7 or MJE?

Looks like it's MJ3. If I need to update, I'd appreciate a link as to where to go to find it.

First, Have you installed custom recovery (TWRP) and rooted yet? You need to do this before updating. THIS WILL VOID THE 30 DAY WARRANTY AND TRIP KNOX. Follow this guide and make sure you make a backup onto your SD CARD before updating anything else. Here is a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525208
Then you can flash the newest modem in Odin as well. It's MJE. Make sure you power down completely (pull battery) and then hold power, volume down, home buttons to get into download mode. Seems to help the modem to stick. File can be found in first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524572
After reboot go to settings/about phone and confirm that your baseband version has been updated to MJE. Now you will notice that your Base version is still MJ3. You can stay there if you're happy or update to the newest build. The second post on the above thread has the dev ed. MJE stock tar. you can flash that in odin to stay stock. THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE and you will be starting clean, so backup anything you need.
Or you can try a custom ROM. I recomend Beans' because it also installs the newest kernel on the dev phone automatically and it rocks.
But, up to you. Find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2523159
Good luck!
Yes I'm rooted, just haven't flashed anything. Thanks for the links.
So, does MJE or Beans or whatever else is out there give you better phone reception? I haven't flashed any roms yet since I was trying to learn my way around the stock version first, but if it means better phone reception, I'm ready to get started.

From what I read, the garbled sound was common on the retail N3. Many people returned them. But some reported that it went away after the first ota. As for reception, I saw a slight improvement with mje over previous modems. Your results may vary. But you can flash back to another modem and try them all out.
Flashed Beans and gave it a test run today. So far phone reception seems to be better. Guess I'll find out more next week.
Only problem I've ran into so far is I can't seem to restore data from apps from the factory rooted rom to this one. I use Notepad for lists of things that I need to do. Restoring the data to that app seems to make the entire app dissapear after a reboot. Same goes for Maildroid.
Cool. Did it clear up the garbled sound on phone calls? What are you using to restore data?
So far phone calls are much better. I tried My backup pro to restore data.
If I should be able to restore data, I'll try titanium backup and see if the data sticks that way. I backed up using both just in case.
Edit: Titanium backup restored the data with no issues. Guess I should have tried that first.
:good: Good! I use Titanium as well with no issues.Good luck.
