[Q] How to root my HTC magic and which is the best ROM for it?

Hi, I would like to know how to root my HTC magic and which ROM is best for it, and how i can get back to original ROM if i dont like the rooted ROM? I am going to leave my phone specs. ANd thx a lot if some1 answer me a question.

Use the search option and search for "1.33.0009 root"....third one down.

THx a lot i found a lot of stuff, but there are few things that are bugging me. First Amon ra recoveri loader there in some guide is said first to just boot the image, and then to install it, so what should i do? Second there is nothing said about when you boot it/install it when you install cynogen_mod android? And third thing on my W7 it wont do the push command always says it is read only file or smthing, should i use linux insted is it batter?

i dont know if the specs was the same
tried to install latest cyanogen mod(latest) via ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1
i tryed theunlockr.com guides...
i can get to the recovery and fastboot
when i bought the phone it was already rooted it had [32b] froyo yoshi 1.8 pancake and everything works... but i was so dumb and tryed install another rom..
I tryed to put many many roms on sd card,install them zip from sdcard and still the same restarting vodafone screen (i waited for half an hour and the same vodafone screen....)
Please PLEASE help me
I'm trying to fix my phone already for 12 hours I just cant any more
can someone provide me with step by step what shall i do to get it worked?

so when u restart it jus goes into the splash screen and does nothin??if yes try downloading the sdk/adb and put the rom into the sd from there an instsll it try that it worked for me

You've got the new 32B radio which a lot of ROM's don't support. After flashing CM you need to also flash the 2708 kernel patch. Search for ezterry on here, download his kernel, put it on your SD card along with CM 6.1 and the Google Apps Add-on, boot into recovery, wipe system/cache/dalvik-cache, and finally flash the 3 files from above. Make sure you flash the 2708 kernel AFTER flashing CM 6.1.

thanks for your response, i did what you said install 6.1 then kernel patch than adoon... and still the same evil red vodafone screen allready 30 min
maybe need do do something with fastboots? or something?
if yes then how? and what?

Are you sure that you flashed the 2708 kernel? Could you tell me the filename for the kernel you flashed?

it doesnt matter anymore...BIGER PROBLEM..
i folowed one guide how to downgrade to 1.6 it sucess and i was so happy... BUT then i realised i install my toch 3g rom version or something... and know my phone is sim loked... i supose similar like it was in just boughted phone...

Google the APN settings for whatever carrier the SIM card is with. At the Google activation screen, hit menu, then wireless networks, then "Access Point Names". Either edit the existing entry to match the settings for your carrier or add a new for your carrier.

i get it worked and at least i can use it like a Phone
i try to root it with one click root but superuser permisions dont work,because of that i cant install clockwork recovery trought ROMmanager (it says An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands)
maybe i need to try another rooting metod or something..

Try using SuperOneClick. You may need to install superuser from the market after running it.

HTC magic cant get into recovery mood neither reset

wanted to root my htc magic 32B 2.2.1, i rooted that with one click root
after that ive installed Rom manager downloaded Rom from there.
after that my htc magic kernel changed into [email protected]#1
now i want i cant go into recovery mood nor i do factory reset. Now when i reboot my fone and try to go into Recovery mood by holding End/Power+home Key instead of Recovery Mood the fone reboots and shows vodafone image again n again and hangs :s
i am not understand where i made mistake :s i need help in that as i am new in Andriod fones dont know much about the Roms and kernel things guide me please i need help!

If you can still boot into the ROM you can just reinstall the custom recovery using ROM Manager.

yeah i can boot bt the thing is i cant go into recovery em stuff fone reboot when i press those keys screen flashes again n again with vodafone .. tag :S i am in big tension i am not gettin any thing
and yeah One thing more after updating that kernel now when i root or unroot i get this Error dev/block/mtdblock
i havent saw this error before :s i am gettin made ..

first of all, apologise me to be noob on Android and for my english. I'm more specialised on Iphone but my girlfriend has an belgian proximus HTC MAGIC 32A and here are the specs :

since yesterday, i'm reading the forum and try to understand how to upgrade this 1.5 rom to a 2.2 froyo rom
the only thing i could to actually is to install through linda file manager the 1.5.2H revovery.
I see for upgrading to cyanogen 6 or ( if you know a better rom), i need to upgrade the radio and SPL to 6.35.10.18 Radio and 1.76.2007 but i'm really lost with all the versions and i don't know anymore what to do
can please someone launch me on the right path to try to flash this magic ?

ok. i begin to get something but i can't use fastboot because i think it's due to the fact that my magic is not detected from the pc(unknown device).
i just could, through the recovery mode, install the zip 1.33.2010
and i got now :

ok, i'm on froyorider 2.1 after a lot of troubles and thought even that it was bricked because it restarted in loop on the home screen provider and not OS.
But , this rom hasn't android market and i tried to install the version 2.2.6 apk but without success.
it installs it correctly but when i strat the app, it closes imediately.
can someone bring me the light please ? thank you

Fix permissions of market app. They must be same like other system apps have.

hello thanks for your reply.
i suppose, you mean fixing the permissions one android market is installed ? and if it is the case, which app do i need to use to fix the permissions ? or can i maybe connect in ssh or an another way to explore/navigate the root folders ?

With Root Explorer you can do it easy.
Don't forget about button 'Mount R/W' before fixing. Folder /system/app must be in r/w mode.
BTW, FroyoRider has market! As it has CM-core, so google apps packed in other package...

And flash it from recovery.
No need to install market manually...

to be honest, i'm an iphone addict and Android seems to become mature and 2012 will be the android year. The market begin to contain most of my iphone apps and i like the way Android works
i'm just very sad now because with my micro sim and the adaptor, i broke the pins of my htc magic and it doesn't detect anymore my sim card i hope there is a way to chage that part to be able to use it again ((

The conventional way is to start with a Golden Card.
Then the Europe RUU with superuser permission.
Then the SPL/Recovery.
Then the ROM's you like.

- i cant find shipped rom from at & t any where ... i have even tried shipped-roms.com
-i tried installing custom miui and rcmix3d and revolutionery by renaming the folder to pd98img.zip it stops at parshing ?
- i tried a stock rom given in downgrade thread . pd98img.zip it installed sucsesful but the phone remains in same state .
any ideas how to go about ..

Check the inspire forums. You may find a rom packaged for flash through the bootloader there. Is it an at&t branded phone? Is it an inspire?
If so, go to you may be able to try downloading the ruu from htcs website and try that route.

well i dont know if its inspire 4g but now i understand it must be its exactly dhd looka like .. a but its at & t branded phone
i downloded the 2.47.502.7 ( thats the rom it shows it has already installed in it )rom from htc website cudnt install it through pc gave diffrent errors extracted the rom and
flashed it with hboot on mmc . but the damn device is still stuck .

search on youtub using " Inspire 4G how to fix a soft brick (htc white screen) "

Try to boot into stock recovery (hold volume down + power) and once you're there, try to factory reset and clear cache. That normally gets rid of boot loop. I'm trying to search for a RUU for inspire 4G. Let me know if that works.

Well first thing I did is to wipe data /factory reset but it didn't help.
