Hello,
I have samsung s galaxy i9000, I have recorded few short clips on my phone and am trying to upload the .mp4 file to youtube directly from my phone. It works but the resolution is max 480p.
I have waited few days to see if it just takes a little more time to process the video before it becomes HD, but it still on 480p.

Double check the resolution on the Camera Apps, might not be on 720p from there.
you're right.
it was on 720x480
i put it on 1024x720 and now it works HD.

Ok so I converted Batman Begins straight from DVD to 800x480 resolution using Aimersoft Video Converter Ultimate. I Converted it to an mp4 as xvid as the encoder. I've also tried H.264 as the encoder as well. I have tried everything to get the video to expand to the edges like the transformers movies did. I had kumar's lite rom but then switched to NRG's rom and its still doing it. I messed with the settings in the TCPMP player to see if I could force it to expand but it keeps staying cropped. I've included a sample pic to show you guys. Any help would be awesome!
*edit* after looking at the viewable size of the movie in the pic vs my screen size I would have to say its about the same size. But when you look at my screen as its playing the movie, it doesn't look that wide at all.
855-480 res with 16:9 aspect ratio?
ok sweet I think I figured it out. Another question. Looking at the size of the transformers movies (around 1.2gb each) and looking at the quality of the video, how could I make my rips the same quality but retain the same size of video?
.mp4 high quality codec try that setting
how did you figure out to get around the cropping?
I use core player and play movies. wmplayer does not do it for me. I use to convert movies for my omnia but you can adjust the aspect ratio on the fly. I usually do 16:9 but on the hd2 I have been choosing "fit to screen" and there is no cropping.
I recorded a video at 720 res but when I play it in windows media player it does not look like high def? I uploaded the same video to youtube which gives me the option to play it at 720p. Does anyone know how to adjust this in windows media player?
ive also recorded some videos in 720 and they don't really look like 720 quality but they are still in 720 res... in your WMP what res does it say the video is playing in?
also i believe the dInc records videos in 3gp so I'm not sure WMP is even supposed to open them... have you tried opening the file with quicktime player? (free from apple.com)
I have noticed this also, with the first OTA I recorded a video at 720p with the encoding type set to H.264 and the video looked great. Now with the current leaked OTA (8-1-10) this is no longer a option as soon as I select H.264 as the encoding type I default to a res of WVGA 800x480 and not given the option to select 720p?
I have noticed that the video does say 1200x720 just the quality doe not look it. I also just tried opening the file in quicktime still looks the same.
I searched here an on the net and I am having difficulty determining what the maximum FPS is for video playback on this device.
I see everywhere that it records at a max of 23 FPS.
The reason for my inquiry is I am using Super to convert some files to WMV format to play on the phone. I set it at 30 FPS and the movie played back almost flawlwssly but it looked as if it was struggling when fast movements were shown on screen (blocky areas, hazing).
Does anyone know the max video playback FPS of this device?
Zune converts videos for you. Not sure FPS but they always look good to me.

Click to collapse
If this is the same SAMOLED that is in the Captivate then the native refresh rate of the panel is 56 if I can remember correctly. Hit up the Captivate forums to double check. Just look in one of the benchmark threads.
Also in Zune Desktop software you can disable the 'automatically re-encode videos" settings if you want to do it your self.
I played back a 1.4 GB MKV (HD 720p) without any issues so the phone has the power to decode H.264 in hardware.
Sorry to start another one of these threads but after hours of searches on xda and google I want to know what my best route is for playback of .MOV files.
I have a Contour HD helmet cam that captures video 720P 60fps. It's only format choice is .MOV. On the a500 I have tried all the major video players and codec packs but what I get is super slow playback or no video playback. What I have been doing is transcoding the files using the Handbreak 720 baseline preset and that works pretty well 80% of the time. Sometimes the files are unplayable (not sure why).
My goal is to be able to take the card out of the cam and put it into the a500 and review my files without transcoding. If this isn't possible I will just continue to use my netbook for reviewing the files while I am away from home. Ideas? Thanks
According to this,
http://helmetcameracentral.com/2009/04/27/vholdr-contourhd-the-worlds-first-hd-wearable-camcorder/
the ContourHD does either 720p @29.97, or 480p @59.94. Video uses Main profile. The sample 720p clip uses a 5.6Mb/s bitrate, the 480p uses 3.3Mb/s. Both use 64Kbs mono AAC. All are within the stock player's capability.
No need to transcode, just a remux to MP4 container. Try the below,
"Use MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/) - Open MOV file and Save as - change file type to MP4."
Thanks for the response. I will try the link you provided and a simple renaming of the file to .MP4 also. It's funny because the first time I tried to play a file on the a500 from the Contour I swear it played flawlessly but now they all play in super slow motion.
Update:
Ok, that worked and was pretty fast on my work desktop (older dual core). I am still hoping for a non converting/re-coding solution that I can use in the field. I was hoping to review videos while camping using the a500.
Hi Guys,
Hoping someone can help me out here.
I made a Video recording from my gs2 (Stock firmware)Superfine, Max Resolution, Default camera app. 3.99gb File Size (I think this could be a factor, my other smaller recordings play fine - Maybe someone could try record to max and see if it playsback on PC (the recording automatically stops when it reaches 4gb i believe) )
Its recorded as a Mp4 file. (when i inspect it via my gs2 it says 3gpp format).
It plays fine from my gs2, however it just wont play on PC.
Tried VLC and also download various codecs, but still no luck. Also tried about 6 converters but none of them could even load the file.
Would really appreciate any help!
cheers.
You can play it back with a video player that supports mp4 H264 playback.
I use the x264 codec plus Media Player Home Cinema or Apple's Quicktime to play back.
