Please post questions in Q&A section
Are you using the charger that oficially came with the phone? I ordered a generic charger from ebay to keep at work. And when plug that charger into the phone my touch screen doesnt respond but all the physical buttons work (home, lockscreen button, etc). When I get home and use the official my touch charger that came with the phone the touchscreen works fine

I just bought a phone from Craigslist with the same issue, but I've only tested a PC USB cable and a wall USB charger, both of which have the same problem.
Have you found anything besides the original charger that works?
edit: the USB-to-PC charging is now working, no go on the wall charger.

Hi fellow dreamers (sorry just can't help myself), just got my dream for a few weeks, and it came only with travel charger (non-standard). I notice that when charging, my touchscreen goes haywire i.e. the touch detection goes offscreen and intermitten, it would click on icon far of the screen where i was clicking. The trackball works fine though. Would like to know if this is normal?
Oh also i've tried using my mp3 miniusb cable to connect to the computer, and it was the same, therefore it's not the charger that causing this.
Would like to hear your opinion, thanks for the help guys...
ps. dream was not officially release in my country, therefore bringing it to htc service center was out of the question (i've tried )
Are you holding the phone in your hand when you have problems? Capacitive touch screens dont work well when they aren't grounded to your hand (ie when you touch the screen while it is sitting on a table charging)

really? surely just touching the screen grounds the phone?
anyway, its always acted perfectly for me when it's charging and sat on my bedside table. get in touch with t-mobile and get them to replace it.
its a ****ty charger, the same thing happend to me when i bought a 2nd charger from a flea market, its just a ****ty charger thats all
this is happened to me too a while ago. the touchscreen went haywire after charging using usb cable to my computer. since htc dream is not officially available to my country, i ordered a new lcd screen digitizer from ebay and replaced it myself. it was complicated to replace an lcd screen digitizer, but it was worth the try. there is a tutorial video on youtube you could see on how to replace your screen. or you could ask somebody with repairing experience to do it for you.
now my touchscreen is back to normal
I found that if I use one of my non-HTC chargers (I have several from Motorola and other phones) that the touch screen would go crazy and the phone would get very hot when charging. When using the standard charger that came with the phone neither of these things occur.
From what research I did at the time, I found that the mini-usb connectors are slightly different (compare a couple if you have extras) and it's enough to cause these effects.
exactly,. but an OEM charger from htc and you should have no problems
Did you drop your phone recently? or you are assuming its due to the charger, get the screen replaced and it should solve the issue.
Just like everyone else says, it's the charger, I had this issue too, I used the charger that came with my phone and it has no issues then I had lost it (or thought I did) and got a charger from a kiosk and my screen went crazy, then I tried my friend charger that came with his phone and it worked just like my charger.
thank you very much for the reply guys, guess i'll try using htc official charger first (htc diamond's charger should work right?)
tried holding it and put in on the table, same result
dunno about dropping it, i got it second hand
About changing the digitizer, i guess since i only have problem during charging, i'll stick with it.........heard that changing digitizer is quite risky...
will post back after trying with the diamond's charger
its the charger

yeah, just confirmed the same thing
now just need to go buy original htc charger since i'm tired of unplugging everytime i need to use the phone
Ok, so I get to work and decide to plug in my phone from an old charger from another phone. I plug it in and all of a sudden, my touchscreen is WAY OFF. I hit the icons near the top and my middle icons light up.
I thought it was the phone, tried different settings, then ended up plugging in the native USB charger/cable....and all is fine.
Just in case any else runs into this issue, try the original charger.
Same thing happened to me on ny Captivate with a generic charger I purchased on Amazon.

That is a problem with the charger hitting a sensitive spot in the usb bus, this happened a lot with the hero as well when using an aftermarket charger. I messes up touch input and makes the phone unresponsive to touch altogether sometimes
Oh yeah, common issue - bad grounding I always suspected.
I've had the exact same issue. I've been using the generic charger that I used for my Pre, and the touchscreen goes crazy when it's plugged in.
It's kinda like an extra puzzle in the morning. Have to remember to unplug the phone before I can disable the alarm clock.
Here I thought I found something new....
Ah well...thanks guys/gals
My eee pad is not charging.
Its plugged in and everything was working - until this evening when I went to use it.
It had trouble turning back on so I pressed the on button a few times until it turned on. Then when I hooked up the charger I can not get any juice flowing.
Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to call asus until I totally have to.
Thanks!

I checked - the USB 3.0 wire still works. I can connect to my laptop. But my laptop does not have the juice to charge the pad.
Looking for ideas. Anyone know of a 3.0 charger?
So the wall charger doesn't work?

I really wouldn't know, there are a large number of causes. Do you have any wall chargers with USB ports on them for other devices (I have one from my phone) and does that work?

Yeah, it was mentioned in one of the reviews that charging via USB tether doesn't yet work and is planned for a future update. No help to you really, but it's a known problem...
The battery will only charge when using the provide wall plug and no extension cables. I believe it does charge without it if the screen or device is ofg

I tried all the extra chargers I have. Nothing.
But I did get the screen to turn on when I used my OG droid charger.
I have seen somewhere that is is possible to plug the usb connector into the wall wart backwards ( usually will only go in one way). Check to see that you have the plug in the correct way.
I got same problem tonight. any solution?
try separating the two piece of the wall chargers and put them back together. It happened to me once and that's how I fixed it.

Physically impossible without damaging the wall wart. The USB jack is standard, and was specifically designed to prevent being plugged in backwards.

Is it just me, or are they exceptionally hard to take apart and put back together? I was actually scared I was going to break it, joining them, it took so much force. I've not yet dared take them back apart...

the magic works. I did it last night and it didn't work. Tried it this morning and it is charging now.
I don't like the charger. It could be a potential problem in the future. Does anyone know if there is a replacement?
Don't know about not charging bug but wife left it on sleep for long period this morning and it didn't wake up, held power in for 10secs then left it for 10 secs then touch ed power button and it woke up

Eventually i got mine to work. I think it has to do with a bug in sleep mode.

What did you do? If it's off and then turned on, it wouldn't be in sleep anymore so it should work.
What if I did a factory reset? Would that fix it? What happens? Does it revert to original firmware it shipped with even though I did the manual update? F
Well, I couldn't get it to work so I just did a factory reset. It works fine now. Just so everyone knows... the pad kept my new firmware update so I at least didn't have to do that again.
I started having this problem last night. I have the dock also and when I plug it in the red light does not come on. It will not charge the dock or TF. The USB cable works as I connected it to my PC. I tried plugging it in to different wall sockets. I tried using my Droid X charger. I even took the wall charger connector apart and put it back together. Any ideas?
I got the device today, but it does not charge. What should I do?
Hello All,
I've had my razr m for a bit now, unlocked bootloader, and was running a CM 10.1 release on it for a while. I wiped it, and installed CM 10.2 nightly (10-2 build i think) - i knew i had to potential to blow up my phone. Was using the for almost 2 weeks, then I went back to my parents house and had my phone hooked up to i guess what was a cheap china wall wart with the microusb cable already built in. it got kind of hot then turned off, i unplugged my phone from the wall and put it on the floor in the garage. i tried to turn it on a couple hours later, no dice. now when i hook it up to anything (only using legit chargers and a PC that can be sacrificed) the led just stays on green, but the phone doesn't even turn on...
any advice?
tl;dr
i hooked my phone up to a cheap china wall wart after upgrading the rom and using the rom for 2 weeks.
now the phone doesn't turn on.
thanks
IMO it sounds like the battery or the charging circuit is fried... normally when the led stays on and green its telling you that the battery is completely dead and will remain that way until the charge level reaches 4-5% then it will boot to the charging screen... I would plug it into a Motorola wall charger for a half hour to an hour if after that time the phone still won't power on I'd pick get a factory cable/adaptor if that brought it to fast boot I'd flash stock and attempt to charge again...if it wouldn't charge i would find a battery somewhere...

i've made a factory cable, do i need to have the battery connect when using this cable?

I always have... I'm sure you don't need to have it connected as it bypasses it...

so i noticed that the LED only stays on green for like 5 to 10 minutes then turns off.
i have a second battery that when its connected the LED on the phone doesn't even turn on.
Hmmm.... can you get into fast boot mode with the factory cable you made?I'm guessing you found the walk through on how to make them did you make it correct solder points solid and getting +5v off pin 4...when plunged in (to charger) do you get a response from holding volume down and power....

nope, doesn't even seem to turn on.... i have a 100% new battery on the way, i am going to try to replace it, there is a chance the other battery i had hanging out was bad. I also am making a new factory cable using the microB plug from sparkFun. as a note i might have my friend make a new case for the phone for me that has a removable back.

so i got all the goodies in and hooked up the factory cable to my phone, no love from windows (ie doesn't detect the phone)
any ideas?
i know the cable is good, i have another phone that i have check it with.
i also have a board from my old xt907 (which i broke by throwing), and when i connect the factory cable to it, windows seems to think its there.
so the board for the phone that was hooked to the cheap china charger i think is 100% dead... when i hook it up to my machine with the factory cable nothing shows up.
the other board that i have has some qualcomm usb serial port show up....
any ideas on what i can try for the dead board to try to bring it to life? there is still some data i want of the damned thing....
My battery was dead so i wanted to charge it.
But i can't get it to charge anymore and show the charge logo or anything on the display.
I tried normal power button
power button + up or down control key
I had it plugged in now for 5 hours...
Any ideas what it could be?
Sure it ain't your charger? Did you try using different chargers?
Try turning the phone off, then plugging in different chargers while it's off to see if the charging display pops up.

The problem is, i don't have the original charger anymore.
Today i tried with the htc charger and a normal usb-cable with iphone adapter.
Both didn't work.
I additionally tried charging on computer (usb) or direct power source.
I will try another charger.

If you have access to a wireless charger, try that. If i remember correctly, it activates a different charging circuit that can help revive a phone when plugging it in won't.
I unfortunately don't have a wireless-Charger
Yesterday i tried with the Nexus 5 Charger. Didn't work either.
The smartphone doesn't even get warmer. So I think it does nothing...
Maybe try to clear the usb port better?
Habe a lookat the USB port, i Gad the case once, that one oft the 4 contacts oft the port peeled off and wasnt able to connect anything. I was able to put it back in its Position using some time and steady Hands and a microscope
Second, for some people it helps to completely disconnect and reconnect the battery.

try wireless charging if u can lay your hands on it
if no other option mentioned above works, then try to dissemble your phone using various guides available(@ur own risk)
n try to see manually if your battery is showing a voltage change while charging..
hit thanks if this helps u
Update
Wireless Charging isn't a solution for me.
But!
The Phone did some weird things yesterday.
I plugged it in for several hours.
After one hour, the notification led blinked red a couple of times, then the screen came up with the symbol that it is charging.
Then it went black again.
Unfotunately nothing more possible.
The back was getting warm, so i think the battery was definitely charging.
Any ideas?
