[Q] Have to double press power button to sleep screen - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Does anyone else have this issue?
If I press the power button once it only pops the flight mode>shutdown>silent menu. But if I double press it, it shuts off the screen.
The power button has worked normal before but its like it has a mind of its own.
It works fine in winmo though.
Another thing is when the power button is working properly in android, i can get into the bootloader via hardware keys.
When it isn't working normally in android, I can't start the bootloader nor hardreset.

What am I doing wrong? Is there any other way to force the phone in tri color boot mode?
Thanks,
make sure phone is off then only press volume - button and then press power button.
it sounds like your waiting to long to hold the vol down and power button. you need to do that before the splash screen pops up, if the splash screen shows up its already to late. pull the battery out & then place it back in..hold power for just a split second and then press vol down. im not sure why but this seems to boot a little quicker for me doing it this way then holding power and vol down at the same time from the start.
Still no luck.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold "Vol down" key
Press Power for 2 sec.
Wait for 10 + sec. nothing happens.
Press and hold "Vol down" key
Press Power for 4 sec.

Guy....just HOLD VolDown and press SHORT power button.
Are you sure your volume down button works?
It doesn't matter if you short press or long press the power button it works either way the main thing is the phone has to be completely off before first pressing and holding the volume down button and while it is still down press the power button and keep the volume down pressed until bootloader screen appears.
You can also try, with the phone off or on, press the volume down button and then press something into the reset button under the battery door quickly and keep holding the volume down button.
If none of these work let me know exactly what happens after you try these. Where does it go, does it start Android?

It looks like the problem is the volume button.
I let the phone boot normally.
I noticed if I press the volume up button then the animation for vluome come up on the screen but if I press the volume down button animation does not appear.
Therefore, when I hold the volume down and press reset button, phone boots normally. I guess I am out of luck?
I am not sure how to bypass this problem but there have been others with your same problem search the other general forums for volume down button broken or something like that and I am sure there is some way to remap your buttons

I don't think that you can remap it so it works on that early time on bootup.

Try to hold down both UP + DOWN vol and then press POWER. Keep on holding it until you see the TRI color screen. This is a hard reset method, hope this works.
Just curious what ROM you currently running on the phone?
when in magldr can you scroll down? if so then the volume down works. magldr wont let you charge the phone in an off state so if you can scroll down. shut off phone or pull battery and wait like 15 seconds, than hold down the volume button than plug the phone in and you should be in tri-color screen if not than you need a new phone. hope this helps a little.

Power button menu not working

Hi
I currently have a not rooted stock n4 and holding down the power button is not doing anything. The menu that pops up to shut down or change ringer is not showing. I held it down for a minute and nothing happens. So I can't turn off my phone. However the button works fine for sleep/wake.
I'm not sure what to do or if I should let the phone battery for?
Thank you

Home and Power buttons not working

I recently flashed a Phoenix ROM and it could be coincidence but my hardware Home button is now not responding to presses most of the time. It will always wake the screen from sleep when I press it, but it will not return me to the Home screen when I'm in an app. The power button also doesn't respond to long presses, so I have no easy way of rebooting.
Is this likely to be a Phoenix-specific problem, or can anyone think of any other reason for it?

Problem with A3 SM-A300FU

My A3 doesn't "wake up" from stand-by.
If I reset it keeping pressed power up button, it correctly reboots, I can see all boot process and it correctly reachs the starting home page.
If I keep touching screen, open apps, navigate from various menu all works fine. But when I leave it without pressing any button/screen for 10/15 sec (display power off delay) the screen correctly goes black, but there's no way to wake up it again although it seems working. The A3 "under" works because plugging to AC Adapter beeps the sound of charging in progress, PC (Kies or SmartSwitch) detect it correctly; only the screen remains black.
I already tried to wipe and even reflashed last firware with Odin but with no luck.
Is there anything else that I can try (except send it to repair center...)?
Thanks in adv
JYD
P.S. When I call It from another phone, it rings but the LCD remains black and doesn't respond clicking vol +, vol - and home buttons
P.S. 2 Thinks become "funny": Home button, vol + & vol - don't work at all. Power button powers off display, but long pressing it, doesn't pop up power off/reboot menu. Softkeys don't work.
Sounds like SoD. Try installing the app "Wake Lock" and choose the PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK option.

Power button failure caused by software?

A couple of days ago my power button stopped working. I couldn't power the phone on or off, but the fingerprint reader still worked. Today I realized that a press of the power button still turns the display on and off. (This happens without engaging the fingerprint reader.)
I've already done a factory reset that made no difference but I thought I'd toggle the Cerberus "Block Power Button" setting to see what happens.
The button now works and the power off menu comes up when I hold the button down.
The button still will not power the phone on, but this is sure looking like a software problem.
Any Android wizards out there have any suggestions?
