Getting the live wallpaper from Cyanogen mod? - Epic 4G General

I really supported Cyanogen mod and I would use their ROM right now, if it was usable, but sadly I can't ):
I did, however, flash it and play around with it, and I loved the sexy live wallpaper. I'm running SyndicateROM 1.0.2 right now (great rom btw), and I really wanted the live wallpaper. (The default one. Looks like nexus but with cyan and the background is kind of grungy)
I downloaded the CyanogenMod Alpha build for epic in the dev subfourm and pulled LiveWallpapers.apk from \system\app and pushed it to my Epic. When I tried to just install the APK, it said that there was a problem parsing the package. So I just pushed it into my \system\app, and I went to my wallpapers and into live wallpapers but it wasn't in there. ):
I'm not really too good with developing or anything, so I have no idea what I did wrong. I know that CM is based on 2.2, but I don't think live wallpapers are version specific?
Would there be a way to get that CM live wallpaper on my Epic? I know there are some Nexus wallpapers in the Market, but none of those are as sexy as the default CM one.
Any suggestions?

If you decide to hop to Froyo, get NexusKang from the market. It's the Nexus live wallpaper with color options (and CyanogenMod is a preset).

Ehh. I tried out Froyo for a bit, and I was happier with 2.1 until Froyo is more developed, or maybe when it is officially released.
I just wanted to figure out why the live wallpaper pulled from CM isn't working

Try searching for "Nexus Revamped" in the market. Works on 2.1 as well as 2.2.

Thanks HeroMeng! I too was feeling the CM Live Wallpaper and after DL and opening the NexusKang wallpaper, the same grungy, CM wallpaper was on my screen! I did not have to select the preset or anything, it is the default screen I guess but thanks again!....Now how about the boot ani, anyway of getting that!? lol

Bah. I wish nexuskang worked for 2.1 then =\

iPhone Developer

I have been an iPhone developer since 2007. You can only write so many programs for it before it gets boring. I just got an Aria today.
What is the best rom build? I like the SenseUI, but is it better to have all the customization that the other main rom besides liberated 2.2?
I also adore the picture I saw of an Android background with sort of a multicolored gridline animated background. What rom runs this? (for future reference)
That's the animated Nexus Wallpaper. Aria stock does not support live wallpapers.
The CyanogenMod Rom has a pretty sexy version of it. I've been using CM for about 3 months now. I just recently went back Sense, cause I had to get a replacement phone due to damage. Took all of 5 hrs to get rid of it!
I love CM and the ability to customize.

CyanogenMod 6.1 is a AOSP (Android Open Source Project) of Froyo 2.2 that has the Live Wallpaper you described.
So I guess the guess the customizable one is more beneficial than the liberated?
Also, which one is newest/most stable/supports all of Aria's hardware?

I would think that anything you developed on the CM 6.1 should run on both of ROMs where as if you developed something on Liberated that was dependent on HTC Sense, then that could possibly limit it to Liberated ROM users.
Regards,
Tom
Whoa there. It's a little soon to be thinking about development. I still don't completely know my way around the settings.
I saw there was a leak of 2.2 with SenseUI. Is this something to look into?

MIUI for novices

Greetings, I am sure I could discover all about MIUI if I looked hard enough, but I thought it might be useful if we had our own Nexus S place where someone like me who has never used or seen MIUI in action could hear from those with previous experience.
I understand its very different from normal android but in which important ways? Are widgets the same? Is the market the same? Will we still have Voodoo sound and colour? Does the app drawer still apply? You see where I am driving at!
please share knowledge and questions...
I have very limited experience with miui I'll admit but I can answer a few of your questions. Most things are the same however it has its own customer launcher and home replacement for which there is no app drawer. All apps are placed on homescreens for the minuit launcher however you can use adw or lpp and have an app drawer back.

Thanks man, I have heard many good things about MIUI but I would miss something like Voodoo so much! I mean how awesome is Voodoo sound?!
It does seem MIUI would take some getting used to.

Well its just like any other ROM, kernels will have to be customized for it. I'm sure someone will release a voodoo sound/color equipped kernel for it soon.
Its definitely a switch but one worth giving a shot. I tried it on my Evo but couldn't get Swype working and at the time I was more in love with Swype then I was with any ROM so I gave up after only giving it a few hours. I plan to give it a much more fair chance this time but its a little difficult getting things set up when half of everything is in chinese lol

Lol I assume your chinese comment is sarcasm and I can assure you its usable in chinese. I do not know a single chinese character but for the most part you can work your way through everything. The one thing I'm still looking for is Haptic Feedback because I hate it and its on by default <.<
I personally love MIUI. The lockscreen, when they get it, looks fantastic and nice. The menu screen is extremely different. If you look at the pics you'll see what it looks like. That takes some time getting used. All the apps are on the homescreen now, similar to iOS. You can create folders to organize them. You can also add all the widgets you normally get from the market, on there. The messenger has been modified, it a very good way. It looks really good. Everything else is the same.

From what I understand they don't have any intention of bringing the old lockscreen back. I'm not sure if they will be doing a new one but, again this is my understanding, we're stuck with the AOSP lockscreen.

one thing that strikes me regarding the original MIUI ROM being chinese natively... is that AOS is supposed to be roughly international No?
even if it installs as Chinese, you should be able to go into settings and change it to English?
like when i change English to Spanish and Vice versa in the stock ROM or some other Custom ROMs

MIUI is fully customized. And no this isn't the case, its set to English by default and the MIUI ROM is a hybrid of English and Chinese.
The English language pack is now available (~30MB) in the MIUI thread.
Simply, it is an iOSish Android ROM.

it wasn't that bad. the icons in settings were pretty relevant.
its fine now. just the notification power widgets is still in chinese.
only complaint i really at this point is white background with white text.
will probably go back to CM7 when the next nightly comes. i prefer having all black to maximize super amoled screen

my engadget, photobucket and some other apps FC'd on me so i reverted back to CM7. probably going back to it on the next release and see how it is.
for some reason, my ADW EX settings doesn't get restored when im on MIUI but works for CM7 and other 2.3 based roms. weird

Download issue can be solved by switch the download mode to start download under any network.
Open Downloads app -> Press Menu button -> Select the right one to switch to start download under any network
Refer to the MIUI forum, since the new UI is still under development, so the custom lockscreen not integrated yet on the first release
Cant really find the "Downloads app" setting. Have a tip or an image of where u mean?
@ zephiK worked for me with restoring the settings with titanium.

froyo MIUI vs gb MIUI

Which one seems better for you who have tested both? GB MIUI seems a little heavy to me
GB! It has it's bugs, but it's a little less iOSy and just a lot better over all. 10x better than sense.
I liked 2.2 because everything worked the way it should

except bluetooth unless you ran on a battery slaughtering .32 kernel ...
I like some of the polish of froyo better (menus, and notification pull-downs), but the new GB MIUI is now as good as/better in all other areas so I don't mind the trade off anymore.
In all honesty it feels _more_ stable to me than froyo now that it can run current kernels. Just be careful when using some of those tweak apps like auto task killer or the vm heap tool that can tweak some of the system settings.... MIUI is enough of a different beast that those tweaks can do as much harm as good and give you a false impression.
Miui Rom
You all know how Miui rom was translated to english. I think it would be better if devs remade the miui rom native english. They should also fix the bugs.
Dont you agree?

Yes, that would be wonderful....but it's about as likely as China talking CM7 into making the native language Chinese b/c they were big fans

I don't know... you may be right, but Android was designed from the ground up to be internationalized. The correct way to write an app (including system things like settings or a launcher) is to put all the text as variables, so someone just needs to edit an XML to put things in another language. This means the translating shouldn't introduce bugs.
I've been using Miui for over 3 months now as my daily driver and have not had to deal with any of the bugs that some have had. Love this rom!!!!
As for how dose 2.2 & 2.3 compare? There's not a whole lot difference between the two. The last build of 2.2 is really stable and fast. If your looking for a Miui rom that's solid and not going to be updated again grab 2.2.
I just installed the latest 2.3 build 1.4.22 lastnight and so far loving it. Really really snappy and so far very stable. As of the .15 build the notification pull down changed a bit. It went from 3tabs, notifications, resent apps and toggles to just having notifications and toggles. The most resent apps was moved back to long pressing the home button.
They also changed around the stock dialer and sms apps. Not really sure how, I haven't used either of them.
Outside of those changes and what I remember from the last Froyo build I used theirs not to to much different.

I loved the Manup themed version of MIUI Froyo, release 1.28 was my favorite. Having said that, I made the leap to Gingerbread the first day it came out, and I have not gone back. EVERYTHING I use works. I only have an FC issue with editing photos from the MIUI photo viewer. I really like the gingerbread, better than the 2.2. The drop down in rather sleek. Manup also has a themed version of the 4.8 release.
with the new update 1.4.22, i have less FCs.
occassionaly, i do have FC here and there but it's not consecutive. i like MIUI GB.

Negative, not for the majority of them. You just apply them with the theme chooser. Most of those (i haven't tried all of them) should be an .apk. Just download and install the .apk. Then go to the 'theme chooser' app and select it, just as you do with the 4 themes that already came with Deck's rom. These are all compatible with the Theme Chooser.

They're not working for you? They should link you to the market. I just tried quite a few of them, and it takes me to the online android market web page. From there it just installs to your phone. You just need to make sure you sign into the market online. Then it'll wirelessly push the app to your phone. If the links aren't working for you, I'm unsure. They all work fine for me...
There are a bunch of themes that are compatible with the Theme Chooser that are available in the market. You can search the market on your phone if you want, for cm7 themes, or theme chooser themes or something. there's a ton of them.

Help finding live wallpaper

I would really like to have the Holo Spiral live wallpaper apk from the Motorola Xoom on my A500. Any help would be appreciated.
Are you sure that's the name of the wall you're looking for? Could you post a screenshot?
That's what it's called and it is only on the Xoom, but it has been ported and I cannot find the apk. It is blue with white spinning dots. A pic of it is on the A500's live wallpaper icon.
I just got it from one of the XOOM ROMs. Here:
EDIT:
Doesn't work (problem parsing the package) here but at least you can try extracting from another ROM from the XOOM section or from m-deejay's Virtuous Xoom...or from a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 ROM (It might originate from there)
I am trying to find another wallpaper as well

No, but that one is easier to find on Google. As for what I am looking for,Holo Spiral is the official name for the wallpaper. It is an official Google live wallpaper, so I find it surprising that it is not on many other tablets other than the Motorola Xoom. By the way the name Holo Spiral is from the official name for the Honeycomb User Interface known as HoloUI.
I also appreciate the apk link from the Xoom rom. It would be even better if I could get it to work on the A500 without the need of a specific rom. If anyone could mod it to work, that would be great.
