MOD : Color Settings Icons - Captivate Android Development

hey guys if you want your setting icons to be in color like the real froyo is, just push the attatched apk to the system/app folder. FROYO ONLY. This is assuming your froyo rom does not have the color icons. You can use root explorer or adb.

thank you, you're the man!

[FONTS] Changing System Fonts on All Builds

I started this thread as a reference to everyone on how to change the system fonts for Android builds (both Sense and Cynogenmod based).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are methods that I know of :
1. Via Recovery Console which is not yet possible on present Android builds as we are running this off SD Cards and not NAND.
2. Via copying to specific directory on the SD Card and then booting Android. I found this the simplest and using this method.
3. While running Android, unmounting system, replacing font files and remounting /system. This method almost always gives me a error during remount of /system...dont know why
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have attached 2 fonts and how to convert your own is simple as illustrated below.
Android Font Folder :
(Your Android Folder on SD Card)\root\system\fonts
e.g. SDCARD\Android\root\system\fonts
Android System Font Names :
DroidSans.ttf
DroidSans-Bold.ttf
DroidSansFallback.ttf
DroidSansMono.ttf
DroidSerif-Bold.ttf
DroidSerif-BoldItalic.ttf
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So all that is required is copy your favorite fonts to a temporary location on your PC and rename/make copies according to the above names (self- explanatory).
Copy these files to the font folder as illustrated above. Create the folder if it doesn't exist (like Sense builds).
Boot away Android !!
PS : I have tested both Calibri and Nokia font on the Desire HD build and it looks sweet
Nice. Thanks for the easy tutorial. You do not happen to have any screenshots of the fonts in action do you?
Thanks for a very simple easy to use tutorial
P.S.: Just tried it and it works great

thanks man that was quick! appreciate it bro
Not sure if it will work on these builds given that they are booting from WinMo but it would be worth a try. Download Typefresh, and Andexplorer from market. Open type fresh, grant superuser permission, make backup of current fonts, then click on font that you want to change from list. Andexplorer will open, navigate to folder that you have placed new fonts in and check appropriate font. Click apply fonts, reboot when prompted (this is where there could be a problem i think) and once rebooted your new fonts are installed. Works like a charm on Android phones ive had in past, including this current phone.

Hi, I copied the folder fonts to root/system via usb in windows mode.
After that I ran the Android as usual. But I didn't find any difference in font.

DroidSans-Bold.ttf
DroidSansFallback.ttf
DroidSansMono.ttf
DroidSerif-Bold.ttf
DroidSerif-BoldItalic.ttf

Very useful information. This worked like a charm. Anyway, does anyone know where to find collections of fonts for this?
Sansation
This is what Sansation looks like on the Nexus One build. It's excellent!

Can we get a script font.

It does work as I tried it after reading another thread about fonts in Android here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717548 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797533. My question is, in one of those threads and mentions only needing to change the DroidSans-Bold.ttf and DroidSans.ttf. But, VBN says to change all listed in the first post. I guess my question is which one ensures all fonts are changed??
From what I have gathered till now....DroidSans.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.ttf are the most used but if others are not changed you may get artifacts in some part of dialogs, etc...
I am not 100% sure but those fonts are definitely there in stock ROMs
Ok, that's kind of what I was figuring. I mean, they wouldn't just be there for nothing. Not to mention, if you use Type Fresh to change fonts, it gives you the option to change the other font names you mentioned. But, you're not forced to. Actually, I loaded a font and it I guess Android didn't like it. So, it wouldn't finish booting. So, I had to copy one of your fonts into system...to get it to boot again. Just a tip for those that one to try Type Fresh and other fonts found around the forum.
Thanks VBN & Kwill for the font tips....

Following Themes now have a transparent notification shade. Even if xUltimate patch did not work on Milestone (I manually edited the smali), credit for original hack belongs to XEUDOXUS for patching the services.jar as the first themer under froyo.
SummerBlues - Transparency Update - Done
BlackSun - Transparency Update - Done
BlackBar - Transparency Update - Done
Elegant Steel - Transparency Update - Done
Installation with GOT 2.0 OpenRecovery:
* Copy complete Theme Folder on SD in openrecovery/addons/themes
* Turn off the phone and boot in recovery as follows: Press the camera button first and then also together the power button, if you see the M logo, you can leave the buttons alone. After a few seconds you see a warning triangle - then first push the volume up button and then also together the camera button. You will see a menu and choose with the trackpad "apply sdcard:update.zip".
* In GOT Menu choose "Stock GOT Features Menu - Theme Menu - Install Theme Menu".
* Select your desired Theme parts (Bootanimation - Framework - Apps - Fonts)
* Finally choose under "Select Theme" your favorite Theme
Please don`t forget - ALWAYS NANDROID FIRST
For non GOT Recovery users Install Scripts are in all Theme folders. Copy these in Scripts folder of your OpenRecovery and install like any other script in your recovery.

Battery Hack for 10% steps Metamorph (incl. in my themes anyway)
http://www.android-hilfe.de/themes-fuer-motorola-milestone/50339-metamorph-batterie-hacks.html
1. With Metamorph
* Rename LauncherPro in Launcher.apk and push it to system/app with permissions 644, then reboot
* Copy the complete .zip in sdcard/AndroidThemes
* Open Metamorph and choose "unzip/Extract new Theme"
* Choose "pick existing theme", then go to the unzipped folder in metamorph (like "LauncherProSummerBlues") and start the xml
* Reboot and you`re all set
2. With GOT OR 2.01
* Copy unziped folder in OpenRecovery/addons/metamorph
* boot in recovery
* Navigate to OR Stock GOT Features - Theme Menu - OR Metamorph Menu - Install Theme Menu and choose the morph
I would recommend using GOT OR 2.01
1. Safer, since in recovery mode
2. app will be zipaligned - less RAM usage and improved battery performance
3. Widgets remain intact
4. Backup function of original Launcher
thanks a lot
Thanks alot, im waiting for the black sun theme. keep up the good work
thanks a lot for these! looking forward to more
wow, amazing open recovery mods! nice work, guys!
not working
Hi, I just registered because i am so glad of the Froyo Firmware for the Milestone.
A big thanks to G.O.T. by the way.
But now I have a Problem, if i try to install one of the themes up on this site my stone will not boot anymore. I installed how it was explained. I put the theme folder in the Addons Folder in Openrecovery. In the openrecovery menu they appear and if i chose one of them the scripts are running and saying "all done" but then my stone does not boot. there will be only the motorola sign.
I installed G.O.T. theme and thats working - thats very good because otherwise i could not use my phone.
But where is the problem with the other themes? I tried it with ElegentSteel and SummerBlues both the same thing. I like to have the SummerBlues theme because the screenshorts are looking so nice.
Maybe anybody can help me?
best regards Joe
You have to put it on theme folder, sub folder under addon

Summer Blues is GOT and GOT is Summer Blues - read the GOT BLOG, I allowed them to use that theme as the new official GOT
Thx again @ GOT for using my theme and letting me test your ROM upfront, you guys rock. Also big thx @ jabberwalkie for his inspiration for summerblues and all the other devs and themers out there, theming is so much easier these days due to a lot of improvements of great XDA members.
i found a little problems.
- Notification background not transparent
- downloading/uploading dropbox notification fonts are black ( on black background )
(Black Bar & Black Sun - RTEU)
btw, thank a lot for nice themes

Thanks for posting the battery metamorphs!
I had a question:
Do you think the many battery icons that are in this thread: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-themes/75093-metamorphs-battery-icons-ripped-roms.html
would work on the GOT 2.2.1 for milestone??

they work without the 10% hack, but for the hack you need more icons and different names. I will launch more battery MM`s in that thread anyway.

Ok sweet, i'm looking forward to more!

[Q] How to change UI font

I see people have different fonts for UI elements. I download an app called flipfont but I can't find it in my drawer, is it now mytouch4g compatible? Or how do I do this?

you've seen different fonts on the mt4g?
What you need to do, is move the file to the system/fonts directory. You need to replace the DroidSans.ttf file with your font that you want (You have to name that font to DrodSans.ttf). Btw, you need to have root access .. also make sure the permissions on the file is the same as all the files in the fonts directory. Once I changed the font my phone started acting weird due to the font permissions not being set correctly. FYI I used root explorer. (Make a backup of DroidSans.ttf as well).
Please post questions in Q&A section.

And another thing ... anyone have the file with the bootanimation of the magic green android robot ?
Thanks

Most of your changes are in the framework-res.apk. You have to decompile and make changes in the res/drawable-hdpi folder which holds the png files for most of the stuff. The default android bootanimation png's are also there in assets/images folder.
how i can reactivate this again ? Removing bootanimation.zip ? i'm trying shadowmodbr, and for this the bootanimation its only the name Android. I like the magic green robot.

You put the bootanimation.zip file in either /system/media or /data/local. The default android bootanimation is not a zip file.
If you want the default back, just delete the bootanimation.zip files.

If you want only to replace png files, you dont need to decompile. Just open the apk with 7zip and replace the png's.

ok, i will try. I can for example choose the icons i want for default in my rom desktop ? for example, gmail, camera, etc.

If u want to change the app icons, you have to do that in the app, not in the framework. The folder is the same, /res/drawable-hdpi.

no, you don't understand what i trying to say. I'm trying to add the icons of some programs in the default desktop, and not change the icon of the programs. To minimize the 'empty' sensation of the rom installed without backups.

Theme color question.

Hey just wondering if anyone might know as to where I would be able to change the hue color that is around the recent apps when opened on left side of screen. Would like to change it from being black in ICS, I'm sure that honey comb had pretty much the same setting for this. ANy help is appreciated.
This is in the system UI.APK.. there are lots of icons .png files in there in different folders.. There is a Thread i read here on xda.. I do not think it was in this forum .it was a thread about honeycomb.
I do know you need to be rooted or BE Fairly skilled with adb. I did a search with luck on finding the thread i read. There are also in the themes and apps thread on here some stuff about doing this.
Sorry I am not much help.. Google search is your Best bet.
As Erica said, these options are in the SystemUI.apk
You can unzip the apk, to a folder on your hard drive, and modify the images as you desire (provided you keep the original file-name and PNG format)
Normally, you can change the colors in photoshop or Gimp.
If you wish to modify the xml files, then you will need to de-compile the apk. The good thing, is that PNG's are not really compiled, which makes them relatively easy to alter. After changing the images, just re-zip the entire directory structure, keeping the original file-name, and rename to SystemUI.apk (not systemUI.apk.zip)
Yeah I have gone through and change what I thought was the hue color image in both systemui/res/drawable-mdpi and systemui/res/drawable-sw600dp-mdpi. But the changing the color of that icon had no effect on the hue. Also I would think that it must be a .9.png image but those are not really panning out atm. I have got a dev of themes to get me his apktool he has been using for ICS framework and am going through the .xml files. But I don't have my tab with me a work today so will have to test more when I get home.
