Please help! Titanium restore made my phone crappy - Galaxy S I9000 General

Edit:
If I would flash a JPO rom over mine, without resetting, would it restore system app without me loading data?
Until this weekend I was on JPM. I loved the phone, very fast, responsive, in one word: RELIABLE.
Then I wanted to go back the "straight" way, and I decided to update to the official JPO with Kies (though not yet availablo for switzerland - SWC). So I flashed JM1, changed product to XEU and unpgraded, hoping to restore everything with Titanium. It was a major pain, but it worked. I did the titanium restore after a wipe data/sd format of course, just in case.
But now my phone is crap!
Many apps FC, I was just able to salvage the mail app. Now the other MAJOR problem is the wireless. It keeps disconnecting, sometimes I have to disable/enable to manage to reconnect to my home AP, other times I have to restart phone.
TL,DR;
Therefor I ask for the following advices:
- Is there a way I could "reset" the wireless module? Or reinstall it?
- I would be willing to start from scratches or reconfigure most of my phone... But is there a RELIABLE tool (meaning, it works at high level, with no risk of messing up things) to backup at least some of my settings?
- Any suggestion on how to wipe and start "almost" over is greatly welcome.
Otherwise one day I`ll give up and start from real scratches.
I`d like to stay on JPO because I do find many improvement in responsiveness.
I also applied z4root and OCLF of course...
THANKS to those who will share a few words of advice.

Next time don't restore system apps and settings just user apps.

Thanks, that is helpful. I did not think about it. So I could create a new backup with titanium, do a wipe, and restore only user? Or the system applications now are spoiled for good?

Save the backup you have already on your external SDCard. Do a factory reset of the phone and then do a restore of only the user apps and data.

Much much better! Thanks a lot, I understood also better how to user titanium.

[Q] I need a little expert help in Newbie Language. . .please

I have had this Samsung Vibrant for a couple months. I have a good number of apps and did the one click lag fix sometime ago. Recently, I had experienced a bunch of force closes and overall bugginess. My Pure Calendar widget stopped loading. I emailed the developer. He had me send him the change log and responded to me that my phone had a bunch of problems.
He said that I should have wiped the phone before the lag fix. And that he can't help me until i wipe it.
Here's where I need help. . .How do wipe the phone but back it up in a way where I can get all of my apps and settings back?
Can you give me a step-by-step in "newbie language"?
After I wipe it, i will use the lag-fix and then restore the settings and apps, if that's the way I should do it (once again, what do you think?).
Sorry if I broke any forum rules or ettiquite. If I did, it was unintentional. I just need the help. Thanks in advance!
Generally the first step is to uninstall the lag fix. That may actually fix your problem since the earlier lag fixes were prone to degradation over time. I don't know which lag fix you installed and uninstalling it will take some research on your part.
After uninstalling the lag fix I would try flashing one of the newer roms that fix a lot of bugs and do not need a lagfix. Again, that will take some research on your part. Check out the bible in the development section.
Thanks for the reply, snowdogging.
I did uninstall it (v1). There is an option on the app that I used.
All I want to do is back-up, wipe, get back to original condition, and then restore my apps and settings.
It is not that hard to do with android but you can expect to lose some information. What I usually do is do a Titanium Backup of all my user applications. I then use SMS Backup+ to dump all of my text messages to Gmail. I am rooted so I use SU Explorer to make sure that all of my pictures and other important data is moved to my external SD card.
And then cross my fingers and use Odin to flash the latest rom that I think is worthwhile.
After a successful flash I do all of the first paragraph in reverse to restore my stuff. It is time consuming. As an example, the first time while learning took about 5 hours, while now I can probably do it in one.
Just make sure you can get into download mode while at the powered off green battery indicator BEFORE using ODIN and you should be OK to experiment. I have crashed ODIN and a bunch of other stupid stuff and am still on my original vibrant.

HELP!!! I9000 dropped all my data oO

Hi,
I have an issue with my Galaxy S. While I played with the app "VPNC" suddenly my Phone freezes and the Screen is black. (Donßt think the app is responsible for that)
So I removed the battery and after a reboot the setup wizzard appeared and all my personal data disappeared. Some Contacts, call history, app data, shortcuts, everthing!
Apps are still installed but some crash when I start them. My wallpaper is still there but nothing else on the "desktop".
WTF happend to my phone?
Is there any way to get my data back?
Looks like you wiped the settings playing with app.
Data contacts should be where you backed them up to .
You could look at internal sd card via USB mass storage .
You need a factory reset .
As the dev of the app says .
Warning: You do this on your own risk: when hacking your phone you loose the phones guaranty! If you crash the bootloader by doing this, you are lost: the phone will definitely be broken!!
I warned you...
So first inform yourself carefully about what others did and their experiance by googling around...
jje
Actually I do not think that this app is so dangerous at all because it seemed to be the only Fritz!Box compatible VPN Client and is used by many users afaik.
Maybe I pressed some buttons while the screen was black and did something stupid without seeing what I did?! I don´t know...
However, the data seems to be gone and I have to deal with that.
The good thing is, that I created a titanium backup just a few days ago (Batch --> all apps and settings or so)
The bad thing is, I have never really used this app. Just installed it and made that backup. No restore so far and just the one backup for testing purpose.
Now I don´t want to do anything wrong, so what is the best way to proceed now?
Reset Phone to factory defaults, reinstall titanium and try to recover this ways?
Re-Flash the ROM, reinstall titanium and try to recover that way?
Is there any chance to make a "dump" of my current flash in case i am destroying more than is already destroyed, so that I could get back to the state the phone is in right now?
Is there anything that will not be recovered by titanium, so that I should try to save this before doing the reset?
//EDIT:
I am wondering, how is it possible to wipe all the personal data and configs with just one buggy app? what exactly happened there? Does this make any sense at all and is this behavior a known issue?
Factory reset and use Titanium to back up apps and data but not system settings .
jje
okay thanks, will try that.
Can anyone tell me if there is any chance to backup my phone (flash dump?) as it is right now before I do the reset? If my titanium backup does not work I ḿight have wiped more doing the reset than already is wiped and it would be a good thing if I could get back to state the phone is in right now.
Did the reset + recovery with titanium now. Everything is fine so far except my home screen layout. Is there a way to recover the home screen using titanium?
If not, how can I back up the home screen?
btw: titanium is a really great tool. Will definitly buy the pro version to support this project.

[Q] Got another new Epic, let's talk backup & restore strategies

After going through refurbs from Sprint, I was finally able to get my hands on a brand new in box Epic! I've rooted and flashed 4 Epics in the last week, only to have to return them to stock because of issues.
What is the best way to restore my apps and app data from my previous device? I don't care much about system settings, preferences, etc. I've done a full restore through CWM on a reurb, but that resulted in a bunch of problems (whether it be due to a lack of journaling, general SD corruption, or bad backups). This was done on an Epic that received the EC05 OTA, then flashed to SRF1.1 with the TZ kernel.
I have concurrent backups in:
- CWM
- Titanium Backup Pro paid version
- MyBackup Root
My only real concern is the market apps, Amazon apps, and their saved data. It seems that Titanium Backup is best, but I'd rather not have to sit there and keep pressing "Install" for all my apk files. How do you guys do it?
I suppose it's temporary given the pending GB release, but I don't think I can stay on the stock rom for 2 weeks...
I use cwm too back up. But if u have problems when u back up. Your going to have them when you restore. And why wait you want the stock sprnt gb rom? Go ahead and root and forget the ota there will be aflasable zip on here in a timly maner once the ota begins.
It backed up fine in CWM but the restore seems to cause issues (eg LauncherPro Plus running low on memory). I'll try a different SD card.
My option for now is to either flash+restore my data or run stock EC05. I think I'll pass on the latter because it feels so limited in comparison to SRF.
Doing the initial charge so I'll wait to get some input
I hear you I'm on srf 1.1.1 and I could nver go back to stock rom. I tried the gingerbread leak. Wow rfs and tock rom. Felt sooo slow
How do you like 1.1.1 compared to 1.1? I think I read that 1.2 is due out soon as well?
Just restore an entire cwm backup on the new epic, wipe cache ad dalvik, the erase /data/lost+found/ and /data/tombstones

Titatanium is the way to go to avoid old corrupted or incompatible data from your old clockwork backup.
Only problem with titanium is that if u dont use launcher pro it doesnt save homescreen settings like widgets or apps placed on the homescreen.
I like titanium a lot cause i have it backup nightly so i always have a recent backup
I've just learned to give it up and not have any sort of attachment to my apps. I dont even bother restoring backups anymore. I reflash all the time and after I've messed with settings and wallpapers and such, it only takes about 15 minutes in the market and setup to get my must-have apps up and running. 90% of the apps I download I hardly ever use and can just take the 30 seconds to get them from the market again. The only exception I can think of would be game progress if you're into that, and TB should be sufficient with very few problems if its just the games. Otherwise, most app data is just logins and preferences. Since I started doing it this way, I've had WAY less problems flashing roms and such, because there are less possible conflicts.

best way to backup before factory reset

Hey there, i have my phone rooted, i have installed the OTA update, and i have slowly removed some bloat through titanium backup.
i am still experiencing quite a bit of lag, and want to factory reset my phone, then see if that helps. i want all my data to stay though, can i just back it all up through keis? or is there an easier way?

I personally use Titanium Backup Pro (if you haven't bought Pro yet, it's totally worth it - it has saved my @$$ countless times!). I Haven't actually uninstalled any bloatware, but frozen plenty of it. This made it really, really easy to get the OTA installed - all I had to do was unfreeze the 3 magic APKs that let me install the OTA, and even kept the rest frozen. Re-froze when done with OTA.
I have two sets of Titanium Backup backups right now:
- A backup of all system apps plus data. I would never want to restore my system apps, unless I get bored and start modding stuff later. I figured I'd just snag a backup NOW in case it ever comes down to that - I'd be able to theoretically restore a single broken APK, or manually extract the apks out of the backup files later.
- A backup of all my user apps plus data. Be careful not to ever restore system app backups, even the "green" or "yellow" ones in TiBu. Rarely, you can get away with restoring these (like SMS, or WiFi access points, or sometimes even the System Settings), but it's usually asking for trouble. If you're going from the same ROM to the same ROM without any version change, it's usually "okay" to try. Otherwise, use extreme discretion and be prepared for weird behavior.
So to answer your question, I would recommend using Titanium Backup Pro to keep data backed up. If you're thorough and have the patience, you can effectively backup all of your data, individually, for all of your apps and your system settings. I'm actually planning on doing a data wipe for good measure (haven't done so yet since I got the OTA), and this is how I plan to restore all my data and settings.

Any problems moving to 4.3 after restoring apps and settings w/Titanium Backup Pro?

I'm thinking about finally moving to 4.3 using a custom ROM (haven't decided which one yet). I have Titanium Backup Pro and plan to restore all my apps and settings after the upgrade. Is this process likely to end in a stable system? I don't have the time and patience to go through installing and configuring everything again, so if it's not a dependable process I might as well wait for the OTA update (and deal with Knox later...)
Thanks!
Don't worry, this is what I did all is fine.
Before anything, make a backup of your internal SD (just in case), EFS backup and all apps with Titanium. Then in Phils recovery select option to erase everything for new ROM flashing. I also did manual wipe of cache & dalvik just in case. Don't worry, your internal card won't be touched, but always better safe than sorry. Then flash MJ5 kernel, and finaly flash your chosen ROM. Then you can restore apps from titanium. I had like 2 apps that didn't work at all after restore, probably incompatible with 4.3. The system is stable 100%. Never had a reboot.
Thank you Dalanik. This is very encouraging to know.

Did you try it? How did it go?
I had faced a lot of issues when I did this recently. My contacts and message apps started to crash. Could have been OS problem no idea, but I was losing all my messages and my contacts. Ended up using super backup and import/export feature. Then on TB i restored only the apps and not the settings or system data. Now its perfectly stable, no crashes whatsoever
If you erase phone completely for flashing, contacts will be restored automaticaly from google contacts, but I'm afraid SMSes won't. That's another thing worth backing up. I used SMS BAckup and Restore, works perfectly, although you can also use Titanium as well.
