[Q] What's the micro usb port for?

Does anyone use the micro usb port? I have yet to find a use for it. I can't transfer files with it, charge with it nor are there any peripherals (that I know of) that can use it. I searched around but couldn't find much useful stuff on the port. All I found was this useless video:
**Ok I can't post the video because of more stupid forum rules but just go to youtube.com and append this after the url: /watch?v=1xBVu-IatDQ **
Anyway, if someone has ideas on how this port can be used I'm all ears... Thanks.
dq
It is a file transfer port. you plug a cable into it and into your PCs usb port. works like the ones on your phone.
Does it work for you? Because it doesn't for me. Nothing happens when I plug it into a computer. No automounting on the computer side or indication on the tablet that I can put it into "usb storage mode" like the 2.X Android versions do.

What OS are you using on your computer, and have you installed the drivers for it?

Computer OS? i just plugged it into my Win7 system and it was there instantly. 3.0 shows up as a media device, which allows both the tablet and the computer to talk to the sdcard at the same time. So you won't see a mount prompt on the tablet. BTW my Incredible2 is running 2.3 and also lets me access the SD card on it and the computer at the same time.
I'm still using an old tiny xp and it worked fine for me just plugged it in and there it was
I tried Gentoo Linux and XP and neither worked. What drivers do I need to install?
I also have access to a Win7 system so I'll try that.
dq
Drivers from acer website.
I have adb installed should this not be enough?
You need none installed. ADB if its running in some form might be interfering. its just a basic driver in windows it uses.
I only run adb-server when I need it and not all the time. I thought that any needed drivers would have been installed when I installed adb.
For my Gentoo machine what should I do? It's not detected at all if I plug it in. My x10 mini and Nexus One are detected no problem and I can mount them and everything so what's up? Is there a kernel module that I need to build?
Thanks.
dq
I had to download these drivers for my xp netbook ,,

I agree with Nova 5. The Windows drivers for USB come with the SDK and while you might not think you will have use for the SDK you will. It makes the process of installing custom ROM,s and Recovery Kernels a breeze. You download your zip flashes or recovery images to Win 7 and then you adb push your downloads to the tablet. The alternatives, unless soneone was nice enough to compile you an apk, which most advanced system developers don,t bother with, unless their app is destined for the massees throug Andriod market, is to install a terminal emulator and enter native Unix/Linux shell commands manually. If you aren't a shell cmd expert I suggest you immediatly download the latest Android SDK for Windows and start learning what it can do for you with just 2 or 3 adb push commands which can help you advoid 10's of lines of manually entered Linux shell commands that can do some real damage to your system if you are copying someone elses terminal emulator sh install instructions, don't understand what they do and make 1 simple typing mistake. With adb push you don't even have to get involved in Linux's complicated bit based permission changes to install something at the system level.

Yes, well I only really use adb in the same capacity as what you describe-- to root a device. After that busybox can be installed and I can either ssh into the device (which I prefer) or use the terminal on the device itself.
But my problem is the detection of the device once it is plugged into my Linux box. I'm not sure if I need a special driver for that and I'd rather not aimlessly search through the kernel config in order to build one (I've done that before and it's painful!). It's good to know that one can mount it on an external device and still use it simultaneously though. That will save me time in trying to fiddle around with settings in the tablet itself...

If you are not able to transfer files Try enabling usb debugging before connecting to pc.
If the tab is not in the usb devices list and it doesn't show up as an unknown device, you might want to try another usb cable. Or another port if you have the Windows and Linux on the same machine and you are trying to connect on the same port.

Not nearly what I was saying. Not even close enough that a bomb would touch it.
Simple answer is my vista and win7 systems accessed the iconia as a media player device requiring no drivers as they are a common system driver. My only comment about ADB was that it might be interfering if it somehow was left running in the background.
I'm not sure what the problem is, but I had to play around with the settings and plug it in several times and finally it showed up. Now I plug it in and the dialog for auto play shows up instantly. When I choose to view files, I get a window with two drives. One is the internal storage and the other is the sd card.

Sometimes mine gets a bit wonky as well. Every now and then, I'll plug it in, get the windows dialogue box asking me what I want to do. I open it up and the box is blank, no drives, nothing. Unplug it, wait a few seconds, pop it back in, and everything is OK. No rhyme or reason, and it doesn't happen all the time.
Quick trick for win7 .
Plug in the device.go into device manager delete its entry and the USB controller it resides on.unplug device.install driver from acer web site.then try the device again.
This works on several USB type issues
Good luck if you don't understand don't try

[Q] Problems with my new TPT

I just bought my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet.
And i noticed some problems that if some one could help me i would appreciate.
1)Were can i find the youtube app. At least the most recent one. I cannot find it on the android Market or the lenovo Market.
2) How can I send files to the tablet using the micro usb cable. I use mac an linux machines and it is not recognize. I Noticed that the USB options are not switchable by the user. On windows asks for drivers (which i cannot find by the eway). Is there a way to access the internal memory using micro usb?
3) Is there a way to use a Portuguese keyboard an still have the tablet in English. It seems that it always chose the layout of the keyboard based on the system language.
Hope that some one can help me...
Thanks in advanvce...
answers:
1) download it Here
2) copy files by using this app. it will ever work on any platform without any drivers.
3) i'm using my tablet in english too. using german keyboard layout because i'm german . don't know if it's the same for potuguese but if you go to settings then language & input you can choose the keyboard layout. try it
First of all thanks for your reply...
1) thanks that was just what i was looking for... Does it update via market now that i have it installed?
2) I know these type of applications but for over the air i use ssh. I Intend to copy some large files and that would be easier and faster using the micro usb cable. Do you know a way to do that? My htc desire when i connect it to a pc via usb cable I can teel it what to do (mass storage device, charge only, etc, ...) what to do, but that option is blocked in my tablet.
3) I have to try that tomorrow when i arrive at the office ill give it a try.
By the way how can i change the host name of the tablet?
2) use sd card, it's the simpliest and fastest way

That is not a very good solution I have 16GB of memory that I would like to use.
And to use the sd card I need to have with me all the time a sd card reader which is not the case.
Every android phone i used and have let me connect the device as a mass storage device. They even let me access the SDcard and internal memory using the micor USB port.
So I suppose that this is possible with lenovo thinkpad but I am missing were or how i can do it...
Is in the settings at the USB-Settings "Transfer files" enabled,
or can you choose it when connected ?
And at accounts&sync is "allow sync with pc" checked ?
mounting the TPT in unix is a bit more tricky. I had to do this last year, I only remember it took some extra work. But here's an experience getting it done in Ubuntu:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/USB-connection-to-Linux-system/td-p/554361
Good luck!
For Youtube, try out the one linked in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19412952&postcount=3
That's the tablet-optimized version 3 of the Youtube app. Installed it yesterday and works great on my TPT.
Youtube newer version?
Hello,
First time poster, but old follower of this great community site!
Q: May somebody provide the apk for Youtube (the latest one). The one linked above I think is an older version (3.0.15)
I mistakenly uninstalled the one that came with my TPT without backing it up (I know, stupid!). I think its version was 3.1.1.
I'm currently using a 16 Gb US version. Build number: A310_02_0039_0086_US
Thanks a lot!
Well, you could try downloading the latest US ROM from Lenovo - just unzip it and check the apps folder for the recent version of the Youtube app.
Thanks Yassin,
But I haven't found a full stock Rom. All I can find are the OTAs and it seems that the YouTube apn it's not included, or at least I haven't found it.
And the update at the Lenovo app store still gives me the parsing error when downloading...

You dont need to connect your phone to your computer to install apps from the play store. If you are on play.google.com and you want to install an app to your phone. Just click on the "install" button and it will do it wirelessly. Just make sure your phone has wifi or a stable data connection.
Oh and if you have the original .apk file and want to install via adb then do this:
Code:
abd install <apk file>
And the easiest way is to just type adb install and then drag the apk to the terminal window.

[Q] Mojo won't connect to PC and lacks sound! Help!

So i just got my MOJO and was in the process of rooting it but, i can't seem to get windows 7 to recognize the device when i connect it by USB. It always shows up as "unknown device". How do i get Windows 7 to recognize it?
Also i have another problem regarding sound....there isn't any. When i load up a video on the MOJO, or just try to do anything that would have sound, theres nothing. I have the sound at MAX using the CTRL gamepad controls. Still, nothing.
I knew the MOJO was going to be one of those devices you have to fight with in order to get it to do what you want but, this is worse than i expected.
Help?
It really is a terrible experience out of the box. We know who to blame Mad Catz!
For Windows to recognize it, you have to install ADB Drivers, try the ones from teamandroid: www teamandroid .com/download-android-usb-drivers/
You will have to locate the device in the windows device manager and install the drivers manually.
But you can root the mojo without conencting it to the pc. you can root it with towelroot (Version 1). you have to search with google for the apk. the newest version (3) and v2 won't work.
After that you can use Flashify to flash a custom recovery.
For the sound: do you have another hdmi slot at your tv? this sounds like a connection problem.

Try the driver from Samsung.
If they don't work, use the universal adb drivers: github.com/koush/UniversalAdbDriver
Towelroot would be much easier, you just install the App and klick one button (but only v1 works with mojo)

Thanks for the reply but i've tried all towelroot 1.0 as well as 3.0 and it did NOT work. I got an error saying, "This phone isn't currently supported". No matter which version i try.
Edit: Ok got it working! Turns out i was attempting the V2.0 & V3.0 versions. There are plenty of sites out there that would claim to have v1.0. However, once i downloaded and installed it, i'd see a "v2" or "v3" at the top of the screen.
In the end, I had to do a google search for a towelroot spefically for MOJO. Only then did i finally come across a site that had a legit v1.0.

Good job! I'm glad it worked in the end.
I also had to search a long time to find the correct tr version. But you will never need it again, once it's rooted. if you want to go back to stock, you can flash the original firmware with twrp, too!

Ok so after a few hard weeks messing with this device, i've figured out ways to fix all its quirks, except for one: Not being able to connect to Pc. Thats annoying. I don't like having to remove my Micro SD card everytime i want to add more files.
Especially since this device was deigned in such a way that, its virtually impossible to remove without first removing the HDMI cable first. As they are sooooo CLOSE together.
Any suggestions for drivers? I just need it to function like a plain USB mass storage device, so i can access my Micro SD card on the Pc.
Yeah, the microSD is a pain to remove.. but I never need to touch it.
I don't understand why you want to access the SD via PC as a USB device?
To access the sdcard over wifi I use a SambaDroid server on the mojo pointed to the sdcard.. it works.

I want to be able to freely connect my MOJO by USB and drag & drop files at will to the Micro SD, without having to physically remove the Micro SD card each time (which also means unplugging the HDMI every time!!).
So far i'm enjoying the MOJO console as i've found fixes for every other problem i've run into. This is the only one that continues to elude me. I had not thought about the possibility of my Pc being able to connect remotely though wi-fi, to access the MOJO storage. This might be yet another out-of-the-box fix for me. Can you explain more about how this is done??

Not sure why you want to have a USB on the MOJO that way... the idea of MOJO(or any other topset box) is to keep it online next to your TV, I used to plug USB thumb drives into it.. but you never want to change microSD cards.. same like on a phone or tablet really.
Just install this on mojo:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=berserker.android.apps.sambadroid&hl=en
You can configure it so it shares a folder (google how to share folders on windows or youtube sambadroid).
You can use just the microSD (i think it's /mnt/card1) or the internal storage(i think /storage) or both using just /
I wouldn't do just / though.
It's pretty easy, just replicates windows file sharing and works well.

Android Install on Laptop

Hello Guys,
I wanted to install Bliss OS 12 on my old laptop but after installation I get the message (Boot MGR is missing).
I formatted a Verbatim USB stick in Fat32 and installed the Bliss OS iso on the stick with balenaEtcher. I restart the laptop and go into the BIOS to change the boot order so that it can start via the stick. I install bliss os as usual with a youtube instruction but after a restart the error message boot me is missing, I also tried other iso files like Prime os or android x86 9.0 but there I get the same messages. Does anyone know anything there and can help me?
thank you

Did you do even try doing a Google search for:
"bootmgr is missing"
That will find many different links and videos to solve this issue.

what if you don't change the boot sequence? it'd be more easier to install on same disk but different partition rather than installing on a USB stick. like you've no idea whether USB is required to boot the OS or the OS has been installed on USB
