You may have noticed that every time you reboot your Adam, Wifi is off on bootup, even if you had turned it on before shutting down.
This is stupid easy to fix.
By default, the Adam is in Airplane mode. This mode causes the Adam to turn off all wireless communication on startup(as well as when you turn airplane mode on). And will allow you to turn the Wifi antenna on, but automatically disables it at boot.
Simply press and hold power for 1 second.
Then press airplane mode.
If you had Wifi on before(but it is off now), it will turn on when you do this, and the next time you reboot, it will stay on.
NOTE: This is true for the 3G models. It may work differently on the Wifi only models.
P.S. If this is the wrong forum for this, let me know. I just thought it might help some people here because several of us told the devs this was a bug, but I think it is actually just a dumb feature(Airplane mode should not be on by default, perhaps there is some international policies that required this?).
i have read an old thread with a similar, not solved, problem, but i didn't wanted to write in a so old thread...
so...
when the wifi radio is on, my iconia a500 suddendly turns on the screen and it stays on also for various minutes, sometimes i guess also until the battery is completely finished (i have found more than once the tablet off because of battery drained in the morning, so i guess it was with screen on all night long)
this happens also if i set wifi to go off when display is off.
i have tried many different roms (taboonay, lightspeed ... and now i have thor rom 14.2, installed yesterday) but the problem is always here.
if i manually turn off wifi, this seems to never happen... or at least it never happened while i was watching the tablet during the last months
does anybody knows a solution, a hint... or anything that could be helpful to make this issue less annoying?
thanks!

You might have a program installed that is constantly calling for wifi access?
That's the only thing I can think of?
On my Rom, I haven't ever experienced that problem.
My settings are as follows:
Airplane mode on
Wifi On
Wifi disconnect policy: when screen turns off.
also when i just turn it on it happens, even with no services or program needing wifi...
but you gave a me a good idea to try...
i will put airplane mode on and check what happens now
and anyway, i'll check again my programs

If airplane mode is turned on doesn't that over ride the wifi on setting?
So if airplane mode is on wifi will always be off so the disconnect setting has no bearing.
Can someone please confirm above or explain..
thanks
no, you can put airplane mode and then turn on wifi
and seems like it is working well... but i don't want to talk too early...
Airplane mode is for tablet/phones with data connections. Airplane mode just turns that off

Yes, but for some strange reason it helps with the wake up problem some have
That's what I was getting at - when airplane mode is turned on it overrides all other settings and wifi can not be engaged in any way until it (airplane mode)is turned off.
Yup I was just answering Spud
Airplane mode only refers to the 3g/4g cell radio (so it turns off wireless network data/phone calls/texts etc.). You can still turn on wifi and use it when airplane mode is on because this is a different radio (well in the a500 there is no 3g radio). After all many airplanes now have wifi on board, however you're still supposed to have it airplane mode.
Thanks.
I haven't been able to turn in wifi with airplane mode on - it takes a longer push (hold) on the wifi button to engage.
I now have wifi on with airplane mode on - didn't realize airplane didn't also disable wifi.

Incorrect! You turn Airplane Mode on, which turns off wifi, then turn on wifi with Airplane Mode still turned on (and airplane mode stays on with wifi turned on as well).
after some days trying i have noticed that putting in airplane mode solves the problem...
but not always the tablet turns off wifi and stay in airplane mode when i turn off the display, it is surely some annoying app (or widget) that makes this happen.
i'm trying to understand which one

The only way to do that is process of elimination. Knocking out the variables one by one until you find the culprit, which has the potential to be a long, painstaking process. Start by uninstalling, one by one your apps that require internet access, and wait a couple days In between each one to see how your tab reacts. Then again, it may be an app that you wouldn't think needs wifi access to work, but in the background is calling for access.
Good luck with it!

Well there you have it.
All stock based ROMs allow it to be done.
Kind of hard to explain what I want, but when I'm outside using my phone, and then come inside the house I want to keep the wifi on, but turn off the cell antenna to save battery (I find with just wifi on, the battery lasts a long time). I know I can do this by checking airplane mode, but then that turns off wifi, and I have to re-enable wifi, sort of a 3-4 key stroke that I'm wondering if I can do in one?
I've tried power toggles, but couldn't see the option for what I want to do with it.
You could use an app like Tasker, or Automateit (<---has free and paid version). You could have it execute a task when you enable AP mode that turns wifi back on. You can get pretty creative with the tasks as well. I haven't set it back up on my N4, but on my previous phone my need to enable/disable anything was nearly eliminated.
Thanks CMNein, I'll have a look at Tasker.
NFC tags.... I use Samsung Tectiles
You can Program a tag to go into airplane mode and turn wifi on

See if Plane Mode Tweaker works for the Nexus 4. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wordpress.chislonchow.airplanemodetweak
It allows you to configure airplane mode so it won't disable wifi automatically. Also allows you to use bluetooth in airplane mode if it's locked.
I've read that apps to control airplane mode don't work, at least with the stock firmware.

I'm still using an HTC Sensation, but I've got a battery of apps to automate turning airplane mode and wifi on when at home, and back off when away.

Whenever I turn on or reboot my phone my wifi turns off and I get a message on the screen saying factory mode is on. Wifi and other functions will be disabled. Please turn off this mode and reboot.*
For the life of me I can't figure out why it is happening. Has this happened to anyone else?

Put the phone into recovery mode, then boot out of it as normal or hold power down for 30 seconds to hard reboot (either is fine btw).. You have somehow toggled the safemode/factory mode on - probably accidental button combo
Thanks very much. Such an easy fix. Had a problem with certain toms rebooting when the message came on the screen.
Thanks again
Hi
I have the same problem. I put the phone in recovery mode and booted out. The problem remains. The battery also gets hot and drains. Please help.

Usually it's because of a bad flash or your /efs partition (directory) got corrupted, some fixes work for some, some don't//// UGH...

Hi, I'm running a rooted stock Oreo (version 8.0.0) and I've just discovered that when I turn flight mode on, if I then turn wifi on, I get the pop-up message "In flight mode" and the wifi icon in Quick Settings stays a light blue shade but Wifi doesn't actually turn on.
I may be mistaken but I thought this was working last year and I haven't done any updates to the phone.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
Kind regards,
Mack.
Hi, I'm pretty sure you can use this:
SystemUI Tuner - Apps on Google Play
PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE INSTALLING
play.google.com
One of the settings allows you to tune Airplane Mode.
Just to update - I think there must have been some kind of data corruption... I did a factory reset and it all worked correctly again.
