Please can someone tell me how to remove Facebook birthdays from the calendar? It's added hundreds and now my calendar is dead, wont work at all.
Thanks
Matt
Done this today to try and find out why Calendar is eating so much power... Open the calendar, Menu, More, Calendars and then uncheck the Facebook one.
Still uses a very high% of battery...
I'm new to Android so I have a few noob questions, my HD is on pre order and I need to clear this up first before I get the phone. When you sync it for the first time with Facebook does it let you choose what you want to sync or does it automarically sync your Facebook friends into your contacts and calendar etc. ? Basically I just want the Facebook app on my phone but I don't want it to integrate into my contacts, calendar etc.
clear your calender cache and files in. options --> applications --> all installed applications --> calender.
Holy crap, now my calendar is using 60% of my battery!!! What a pile of junk! That's AFTER removing all the facebook stuff.
No way should I have to wipe all my calendar entries cos of this crap. I had to clear my news app cos that broke last week.
This phone is getting worse and worse, simple things that should work without trouble are constantly being a pain in the arse.
Calm down man. Check your sync settings with Gmail/HTCSense. If they are too frequent (or push) lower the frequency. If they are normal try reading a little bit on the subject. It's called a smartphone because sometimes it thinks on itself and that means doing things u don't want/like. U just need to be smarter than it
Some people complained of the hungry Calendar as well and for many the issue was that they had more than one widget using calendar on the homescreens. If u got let's say Agendas, Calendar and Friendstream as widgets try removing one or two
success
Thanks. For my homescreens I have...
News / Calendar / Blank (shortcuts) / Clock and shortcuts / Email / Friendstream / Bookmarks.
All my syncing is like 2-4 hours.
The calendar running at 60% explains why I've been getting occasional days with bad battery usage (which is normally ok for a few days after restarting the phone).
I've now wiped the calendar, uninstalled the Facebook one (or rather just didn't reinstall it). Restarted the phone and I'm gonna see what happens today now.

I am having the same issue. It syncs the calendar fine, but not the contacts. I would like to have the Facebook profile pics sync to my contacts just like on my HD2. I had the issue before and after root so I know it isn't that.

still doesnt work?
Day two, still wont sync. I have facebook enabled in contacts, it just shows a group with 0 people in it. It syncs my calendar just fine, but wont sync contacts for some reason.
The strangest part is that it used to, but after I reformatted it wouldnt.
Ive tried; Deleting and re-adding FB account at least a dozen times, and Menu -> sync/cancel/sync/cancel brute force approach that worked with other phones.
my facebook widget stopped auto updating even though its set for like every 2 hours the last posts i see are from this morning.
in fact if i click the manual green sync arrows it attempts to sync but nothing happens.
i already have done a battery pull today.
My facebook and twitter contacts both won't sync. And I have two sets of twitter contacts, one from the widget and one from the twitter app.

Got that too, but mine sync at least... sort of. I had to manually link contacts that were first linked automatically when I first set up my phone.
Same problem wont sync. Checked of and everything
I'm having the same issue, i'm curious all of you who are having problems did you experience them after the root?
My contacts synced fine when I first got the phone but have since stopped syncing (if I check under accounts and sync in setting I see an error) This issue existed for me both before and after root.
Synced fine before I rooted but tbh the phone was unrooted for about 10 minutes after initial setup. The second I got home I rooted and wiped.

guys. read the message on your phone. it says "sync is down right now temporarily" when you try to sync and look at specific status. I'm guessing this is more a samsung or android thing than "your specific phone".
Right beneath manage accounts it says "sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly". Notice the sync icon with the red exclamation mark next to it
I have not rooted yet, and I'm still having sync issues.
I really think they rushed getting the phone out to compete with the droid x, moving the release date up a week. Hopefully this issue, the gps/compass, and 3g get addressed in a OTA update soon. I saw the droid x was already scheduled to have one.

I had the same problem. It just starting working now. I did not do anything. they must have fixxed something.
Having this issue as well. The weird thing is that when i add Facebook to the accounts list in settings, it updates the feeds widget with facebook statuses, and they are also listed in the contacts app, that last menu that gives you the various social feeds. However it cannot sync the actual contacts, must have tried 15 times today.
I was reading on another forum that someone found a solution that seemed to be working for people, but only if you were able to get it synced before and in some way either removed the account or the contacts and cannot resync. This didn't work for me as I didn't fall under that category, but I hope this can help someone.
1. Turn on background sync in settings.
2. Go into the main contacts window, and instead of hitting accounts to check the sync or whatever, hit menu at the main screen and choose "Find Friends"
3. Tap on Facebook. If you were able to sync before, it should work. If you are like me and was never able to sync, the box will be greyed out.

This worked wonders...Thanks!
I'm having a similar issue with my twitter contacts. I can manually add a few via the method offered above, but the account doesn't seem to find some of them (including my girlfriend's, which is particularly frustrating).

I had same issue with contacts sync with facebook images. But i found a work around. When you add facebook accounts and sync. Enable fackbook contacts and facebook contact images. Now it will dump all your facebook contacts to your phone, but it will categorize it. once you do that, it will link your say "gmail contact" and "facebook" contacts together, On the contacts that you have different nicknames, you can click on the contact and select linked contact, select facebook and choose your friends contact info and now my images matches. Looks better now. Hope i only have to do this once.
Good Luck and this is my first post.

I don't know about other people on the forum, but the one thing (and I do mean one) that I hate about the fascinate is the horrible facebook syncing that it has. By default, you seem to have to manually set up each individual person for facebook sync by 'linking' the profiles. I hate it, and I miss the D1 where it automatically did everything for you. That's the one thing I miss (minus FroYo).
My question, and I'm going to experiment tonight, is if you replace system files with D1 apk's, can it work since most android applications do not seem to be resolution dependant (coded with %'s instead of 400px's, for example if that makes sense)?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently running a deodexed heavily modified AOSP Magic 0.2 rom of my own creation, but essentially the AOSP Magic rom.

Mine automatically does it...
The only one I had to manually sync was "Mom" to her real name.

I have never had it sync automatically. I have always either had 'Facebook Sync Error' or it says it's doing it any never does.
Also, just an update. No. It doesn't work. I don't have any way to get to contacts now, even though I switched back to the original files...Fantastic. LOL
EDIT: Does anyone have the ContactsProvider.apk? Deleted it and have no backup now haha
OP, I'm assuming you're talking about DI01?
Heres a deodexed version from D101
Mine syncs thm automatically if I click the get friends option and go select everyone in my phone book. I also hate that I have to do this. Stock android and htc sense handled this WAY better.
You have to be patient with the syncing with Facebook on this phone.
I too noticed my Facebook wasn't sync'ing, so this is what I did.
Delete the Facebook App
Erase the Stock Facebook Syncing
Re-download and install Facebook App and sign in.
Go back into Accounts & Sync and use the stock Facebook Icon (It's darker and more round)
Fill out your information, hit sync, set it and forget it. Just let it sit and think and do its thing forever, the screen will more than likely timeout, but thats ok, go make a sandwich, then come back and check it.
I've done this twice now and it's sync'd up. You might have to manually fix some contacts, but that's probably always the case.
It does mess up every once in awhile and can't re-sync, just go back into accounts and sync, uncheck the boxes, recheck them and let it sit again.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but what do you mean delete the stock Facebook sync? The 'AccountAndSyncSettings.apk' in /system/app?
Yeah, I'm also confused. After installing the Facebook for Android app, I see the alternative facebook account in Accounts & Sync but no matter how many times I tap on it, I cannot select it.
heres why..
the contacts that you have on your
phone might have diffrent names than
your contacts on facebook.
what you do is have your contacts
name exactly how it is on facebook
same spelling etc..
then it should automatically sync
on your phone.
i never had a problem with
syncing my contacts/facebook
Dan, were you able to get the Droid's contacts apk working?
What about adding the Facebook App's account instead of the built in one? I still cannot get that to work. If I remove the facebook app, it also disappears. I install the facebook app, go to accounts & sync, click the lower facebook account, and it takes me to the facebook app's login, but gives me no option to sync pictures to my contacts as it would on the original Droid.
In the interim, I've discovered SyncMyPix which will pull facebook pics for your google contacts and attach them. It also will sync the pics to your google account so in gmail, you'll see their facebook picture. SyncMyPix can be set to update daily, weekly, or monthly to keep the pictures up to date. It's not as good as the Droid's version, but it works for now.
Hello.
I've noticed recently that the Calendar application is using a lot of battery on my DHD, if I've not used my phone much since unplugging it, the Calendar claims to have used up to 50% of the battery. On normal usage it uses a similar amount as the display. I am running Leedroid 1.2 (did the same thing in 1.0) and have tried clearing the cache, unchecking the weather feature and removing the facebook calendar (I now have 1 gmail account calendar, 1 subscribed calendar and public holidays listed). I have done several restarts and it is always the same.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to resolve this? My next step would be to do a full wipe and reflash of the ROM but I would rather not get that far...
Thanks.
I have the same issue, had it on the normal OTA and now on leedroid too. I use multiple Google calendars and have Facebook and twitter sync running. It does seem to spend a lot of time synching.
Just looked at accounts and syncing and it does seem to be Google calendar that is constantly syncing.

In many different forums the same issue appears all the time. Many people resolved it by limiting their homescreen widgets that make use of calendar in some way. Sometimes even more than one make the calendar go berserk and chopchop ur power like a hungry chinese - a bowl of rice

I don't have a calendar widget. I do have the Facebook and twitter on my home screens (was about the time I started using these that I noticed it actually.)
Well it is still present after removing the Facebook and Twitter widgets (and after a restart for good measure). Maybe it is Launcher Pro?
I'm having multiple problems with this, the way it works is really an absolute catastrophy. Don't know if this is a SGS specific problem.
All I want is to sync contacts with FB so that I can use profile pictures on my phone. Nothing more, nothing less.
So first thing I did was set up a new account for FB. Before you EVER get the chance to say you don't want this, FB already syncs and clogs your calendar with numerous events including 100s of invitees you couldn't care less about.
So, I had a hard enough time even getting all the FB stuff out of my calendar again. Not only do you have to uncheck FB under settings -> accounts & sync -> fb, but you also have to uncheck it under calendar -> options -> settings -> calendars. I have absolutely no clue what this redundancy is for except to create a whole bunch of problems.
Fair enough, that worked. But since battery drain is a real problem on this device I tested some of the settings to try and optimize. Should have knew this was a bad idea from the start.
So I turned off 'background data' on settings -> accounts & sync. Market doesn't work without this, so useless, turn it back on. Great, all syncs in contacts have been erased.
Took me about 2 hours to connect my contacts to the appropriate FB friends again. Fair enough, but now all birthdays show up in the calendar again.
What can I do now? Is the only thing I can do to manually delete all these birthdays from my calendar again?
Speaking generally, the whole settings deal on Android is driving me crazy. Bad description, redundancy, and the device doing whatever it want's regardless of what I do, I'm really starting to question whether this device was a smart buy.
My calendar has started being a real pain in the backside today. I was reading a few topics on the calendar and after checking my battery usage daily I thought my calendar had started using a lot more battery than it used to (used to be around 5-8% on a full charge, recently its been 15-20%).
So I wasn't able to find any fix in the other threads and someone suggested clearing the data from the app manager which I did. The problem now is that my calendar is messed up. I only use it for birthdays linked via facebook and holidays. It is showing the holidays fine but it is no longer showing birthdays. It shows some (3 to be exact) however there used to be waaaaay more as it showed all my facebook contacts birthdays. The 3 people that it is showing seem to just be random and it says they've been linked from facebook.
The good news is that my calendar battery usage is back down to below 5%, but maybe that's because it isnt even working as it should.
Anyone have any suggestions. I really don't want to do a factory reset. It took me about 3-4 hours to sort out my contacts and link them all correctly so doing that again would drive me mad (unless there is some way I can do a backup which includes the contact links?)
Sorry, I can't help you but HTC clearly has issues with Google Calendar. My calendar eats battery and often sits at the "Loading" screen. I see lots of issues on the forum, and few solutions. Time HTC fixed it.
Hi,
Yeah its a known issue. I have the same problem. I e-mailed HTC about is last week and they replied saying that they know about it and should be fixed in an update soon.

Hello!
I tried the clear-data for the calendar and the battery consumption has dropped to normal levels again.
Thing is my Facebook birthdays are not showing up anymore (at least most of them...).
Also, I would like to ask another thing.
Is there a way for the calendar to display birthdays for people that you don't have as friends in facebook but you have their birthdays stored in your phone contact list??
And one final question. If you go to Google calendar online (from a PC) there is an option to have your favorite teams' schedules on your calendar. Is there a way for these schedules to appear on your phone calendar as well?
Thanks!

I have the exact same facebook birthday issue because I did the exact same clear data thing. Battery consumption from the calendar has disappeared thankfully but now the facebook birthdays don't appear.
I eventually gave up and left it. Day by day the facebook birthdays have been appearing strangely. Initially only 2 friends birthdays were appearing after clearing the calendar data, then the next day there were about 4, then the next day a few more and its gradually populating the calendar. There are still some missing but I'm hoping they will appear soon as everyday there seems to be some more added.
It is very strange but give it a few days and see if it starts populating.
Same here. Cleared the calendar data and it has resulted in similar effects (improved battery, weird calendar). I'm surprised that such basic functionality (HTC syncing with Google calendar using a Google OS) has caused such problems.
Oh, any syncing my favourite team (the one and only Glasgow Celtic) would be nice. Any ideas? I have Celtic's fixtures in Google Calendar on a PC but they don't appear in my syncs.
