I recently ordered mine from WElectronics. Since it's a 'Worldphone' meaning supporting both GSM and CDMA SIM's, I'm planning to use this phone here in India.
Would like to know whether I'm correct on my assumption of it being a 'Worldphone' and hence the ability to use this phone worldwide on ANY GSM & GSM 3G Network.
Thanks in advance.
According to the specs it has HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100. Assume India uses one or a combination of those frequencies it will work once unlocked.
You can get an unlock code on ebay but its $50.
I got mine from Cellunlock.net for $16

Thanks friend. I think WElectronics is selling it unlocked. I'm glad to know I made a good buy.
Hello, I have bought a Droid Pro and was looking for some alternatives to eBay unlocking. You have mentioned Cellunlock.net, but I wanted to ask you what option you selected? I ran a search in that site and I did not find the Droid pro listed. Did you pay for the plain Motorola "any phone" unlock? Thanks for the info.

the carrier that it came from. hopefully not Verizon because they dont support verizon unlock yet it looks like. if you have been a customer with Verizon for over 6 months i believe they are required by law to give you the unlock code if you ask. just tell them you are traveling overseas with your phone. at least thats how at&t works here in the states.

Was hoping an owner could shed some light on the subject for me.
GSM arena says it has HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100, but I don't always trust that site as I've seen some wrong info on it.
Can anybody confirm that it has HSDPA 850 / 1900? Would love to use this on Rogers 3G network in Canada.
It seems that they are blocking the 850/1900 band. check out this thread/page:

I believe it will not work on any GSM carriers in the US or Canada. It will, however, work on GSM and UMTS carriers outside of US/Canada.

That is until the figure out how to fix that issue.
Thanks everybody. I haven't actually seen anybody try they phone in Canada yet but I've seen plenty of evidence that it is at least blocked in the U.S. It would be nice(for me at least) if they only block within the U.S. There are more countries than just Canada and the U.S. that use these frequencies. I'm tempted to purchase one and try anyways but with a $35 restocking fee and $15-$25 unlock code it gets a little pricey to just try it out.

nevermind, looks like I have to keep reading. It appears that it will work on other 850/1900 networks as long as you are out of the U.S. Now I have to find a decent price on an unlock code, upgrade the wifes BB 9000 to an iPhone4, sell the iPhone4 and hop over to a Verizon store and by this bad boy. Hopefully Rogers doesn't give me too much difficulty.
Thanks for the links everybody. Just got the phone working in Canada all for under $600 as well
Phone was $518.39 US after tax
Unlock code was 15.99 from CellUnlock.net
Few odd things. The iemi number was difficult to figure out. The 5's looked a lot like 6's. I found some site that checks imei codes and when I checked the imie with 5's as 6's instead it said it was impossible to be valid imei code. When I checked it as 5's it was a valid code.
After I unlocked the phone I tried to set the APN values but it wouldn't let me, however after a phone reboot HSPA data turned on. All is good now
How did you actually unlock the phone? I called Verizon and they gave me the unlock code but said it won't unlock until I take out the Verizon SIM and insert a foreign SIM. At that point, I'll be prompted to enter the code.

That's correct, and congrats on getting the Unlock code from Verizon. Everything I read said you would have to have an active account for 6 months before they give you the code.
All I did, was turn off the phone, take off the back, remove the battery, insert my Rogers sim card, put the battery back in, turn on the phone. When it booted up before it booted into the OS there as a screen asking for the SIM unlock code. I just entered the code and hit continue. Voila. Oh yeah, I had to restart the phone to get the data to work.
Looking at your profile you're from the U.S., so unlocking it wont allow you to use it on any network in the U.S. except for Verizon(they've locked it in the radio firmware), however if you're planning on traveling it'll be great.

That is correct. The generic unlock any Motorola phone.
Amazon says the atrix can be shipped to outside the US
Does it mean it is unlocked?
No contract price is $599
Is it the same one as the $499 in the ATT Store?
(some thread says ATT's no-contract price is 499 or 399?)
Thanks
i can't find no-contract atrix on amazon.
go to amazonwireless.com and go to the atrix. It has options on the left for Phone Only no contract. Which adds it to the cart for $599.99. Since it's labeled AT&T it is the same phone in the same AT&T box. This most likely means it is locked to AT&T at the moment.
Even if you buy instore then price will $550 anyways with tax and all.
interested to know as well
the phone is locked to at&t.
Does anyone know where I can get it unlock if I buy the phone outright.
i bought it online without contract from at&t store for 531 with taxes
was it unlocked tho (can use with another sim card)
AT&T probably won't sell it unlocked out of the box, this has been discussed in many threads. You'll have to get the unlock code from a seller(online) or call up AT&T and tell them you're going to a foreign country and need an unlock code(This has apparently worked great for previous phones).
Does the Atrix 4G support WCDMA 2100 MHz?
I am located in Germany and wanna buy Atrix 4G. My friend is coming from US in March end so I can ask him to bring it for him. I am just not sure if the Atrix 4G supports the 2100 Mhz WCDMA band.
The Motorola website mentions in its technical specifications for the Atrix 4G dat it supports WCDMA 2100 Mhz. hxxp://yyy.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/ci.Motorola-ATRIX-US-EN.alt
But the same cannot be confirmed in the AT&T website and in the other online vendors as Amazon. hxxp://wireless.amazon.com/dp/B004KZP4BQ
I really wanna have this phone. But I want to have the 3G/UMTS/HSPA working here.
Thanks and Regards
Anupam

i would like to know this too
I'm currently in Hong Kong and their 3G band is 2100mhz as well
GSMarena lists the Atrix 4G to have 3G 850/1900/2100
but on Walmart/Amazon it lists it only as 3G 850/1900
can anyone confirm?
if its truly a tri-band 3G phone, i would buy those phone outright from amazon right now
Thanks for any input!
Keep in mind that with an AT&T exclusive it will be monts before they offer an unlock. And even the unlocking services could not unlock the Samsung Captivate for months.
Firstly, does buying the no contract phone from Amazon, might still be not usable on other networks.
Secondly, I was digging on the AT&T website it offers a "no commitment pricing" of 499$. Should I still be worried because I wanna use the phone in Germany?
I have no idea how the US cellular plans work, so a bit of insight would be helpful.

Judging by what other people say $499 will get you the phone without any contract... you will not have to pay AT&T a monthly fee.
BUT! because this phone is currently exclusive to AT&T it will only work with their SIM cards until it is unlocked. This process took several months for the Samsung Captivate... so at the moment there is no way to guarantee that the phone you buy will be able to use your SIM card.
Hi.
i saw this at amazon
http://wireless.amazon.com/dp/B004KZP4BQ
they are offering it for 600$. my question is, if i buy it, will it work in UK?
It's Quad band
you'll be fine in UK.

it says near the bottom of the link
This phone runs on AT&T's dual-band 850/1900 MHz 4G network (UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA+), and with HSPA+ you'll experience mobile data speeds up to 4x faster than ordinary mobile broadband--up to approximately 6 Mbps (download). AT&T has deployed HSPA+ to virtually 100 percent of its mobile broadband network, which enables 4G speeds when combined with enhanced backhaul (via Ethernet or fiber).

Im in UK and interested in this, does amazon ship international?
It's GSM, thus uses sim cards, so that's fine.
According to this page (att.com/shop/wireless/devices/motorola-atrix.jsp#fbid=xjNmRHvaqP6), it supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz (so quad band as mentioned), and if Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM_frequency_bands#Africa.2C_Europe.2C_Middle_East_and_Asia) is to be believed, we Europeans use 800/1900 Mhz frequencies. So it should work.
I doubt you'll get LTE (wrongly marketed as '4G') speeds however if you really want that, don't think any of the carriers here have such infrastructure in place
[edit]Wow, £372 before shipping, tax and customs. Even so that's a full £100 of my estimated unlocked price once this gets released in the UK. That's amazing.

ask amazon for UK shipping.
I might get one too
wireless.amazon.com/help/200307850/ This page here states that it'll only ship to US states.
If you do manage to get one, Swiftunlock.net apparently offers legit worldwide unlock codes for $19.99, so that's one issue out of the way. You'll obviously need a plug adapter but those are like £10 at worst.
This is sound more and more appealing, think I might ask some of my US friend for some help...

It will cost around 15USD to get unlock code, loads of ppl on the forums have already unlocked theirs, there is a thread on it....called unlock codes
hmm so amazon dont do international shipping?
I'd like to buy this and use on AT&T.
What hoops do I have to jump through to make this happen?
The frequencies are supported (don't care about LTE).
For example if I buy unsubsidized on Amazon, do I have to call Verizon up and get a code from them that will let me use it on AT&T and other GSM carriers?
It's locked for US GSM bands, as far as I know. P3Droid has said that they're working on getting it unlocked. I'm sure we'll hear about it when it happens.
I bought my RAZR M at Amazon (Verizon, without contract) and i use it in Germany with O2 Provider.
No Problem, nothing needed. It´s not locked.

Correctamundo (sp). In further searching it looks like they block the MNC for at&t and t-mobile inside the radio firmware NV settings. Also there is a pesky "unknown sim" or something that pops up every bootup.
Working in India/Asia ?
Hi,
I'm planning to buy one in my visit to US next week. I intend to use it with GSM India.
Has anyone used the phone with GSM provider in India or other asian countries? I was told that GSM capabilities works only in european countries , so wanted to make sure of it before I buy it.
Thanks
Just check and make sure the bands that your network uses are supported. It supports all the standard GSM bands, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Hey guys!
im from israel, been using NEXUS phones for the last 2 years or so and i saw this phone and knew i must have it (ffs 3,900mAh)
but then i saw it says "Verizon" everywhere, which i know is a cell provider in the US.
so does that mean that Motorola made a phone that is for ONE CELL PROVIDER IN THE WORLD?
some poeple have been writing things about "open GSM" or something? will there not be an unlocked version?

The Droid series of devices has traditionally been Verizon Wireless exclusives dating back to the original Motorola Droid, to answer your question it is made exclusively for Verizon. Will there be a unlocked version eventually, most likely there will be. This being said you could purchase one for full retail price and by Verizon's Device Unlocking policy "We do not lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier", however there is no guarantee it will work with the radio bands your carrier operates at.

wow thank you for the awesome detailed answer.
so they CLAIM i could just buy a Verizon version and put my sim card inside and it SHOULD work?
also when u say "no gumtree it'll work with the radio bands" , do u mean these (for nexus 5 for example
"HSDPA 800 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 / 900 - North American version
LTE 700 / 800 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600 - North American version"
and if so, if i can CHECK with my provider what 'radio brand' they work at, and the Turbo has that band, theres really no reason for it not to work, right?
As a former VZW indirect rep, I can tell you that yes, it is possible to unlock the phone, and use a foreign sim in it, you would have to call VZW Tech Support, and have them unlock it on their end, before being able to take it to another carrier. When the device is released, or open for pre-order, they will list the CDMA/GSM/LTE bands that it will work on, listed in the specs on their website. A lot of VZW customers do travel abroad, therefore, the devices do have to work, and obviously, most of the world is on GSM. Hope this helps.
