Does anyone know where the icons are stored on here? like the battery, signal strength and wifi strength icons... thanks
Good question. Are you wanting to make your own?

They are inside the framework-res.apk file, which is located in /system/framework/...
You need to open up framework-res.apk using winrar or similar, and go to folder /res/drawable-hdpi/ and then you will see all the icons that the system uses.
Good luck. Just be careful with framework-res.apk editing, it can easily cause force closes and constant reboots if done incorrectly.

Glad to hear people are starting on theming and framework mods. I am looking forward the battery mod personally. I haven't made one yet out of laziness, but I will definately be pushing yours when you post it.
Hope more people with MT4G jump in.

I'm actually really interested in doing this as well. I love doing graphic design so its only natural that I would want to modify my phone visually. My only concern is are these icons just a simple jpg or png and we can make our own and switch them out or is there coding and such behind them that I would have to do as well?
Just curious. Thanks!!!!
**btw I know this thread is 'answered' so please don't be upset that I bumped it to ask this question. I figured this thread could serve the purpose I'm asking for simply cause it would be pointless/waste of space to ask it in a new thread when this one exists. Thanks =)
The easiest way to exchange or replace a few PNGs (the icons are not JPGs), which are named identically to the originals, is to pick up Metamorph. It swaps the files for you with minimal intervention, unlike pushing/pulling the framework with adb or unlike using root explorer. And, by creating metamorphs, they can be zipped and easily shared.

Some girl at my job had the Evo 4G and I played around with it for a bit. She's had it for like almost a month now. Here are some pics.
I shot a video with my iPhone. I couldn't navigate through the phone that long being that I was almost stunned and just admiring the hardware. It's really solid and feels good in your hands. I have big hands so it wasn't too huge for me. I saw the video quality of the movie "BadAss" and it was sick how the video continued to play in the background while I was looking at other things. No hiccups at all. Very fast.
The maps app rendered really fast and you don't see what you normally see on the iPhone (checkered squares)
Major complaint is all the finger prints but that should be corrected with an Anti Glare type screen protector.
*** I also shot a video on my iPhone. I'll go down later and take more detailed pics. Send me any questions that weren't answered and I'll dig around the phone and answer them for you. ***
Nice pics.......man you are lucky , how's the onsceen keyboard? How's the tacticle feedback?
system dump would be great..
***Tell me how to do a system dump on a Mac and I'll do it today*** If anything I'll borrow my friends windows laptop. Tell me which programs I'll need.
Also I didn't get to play with keyboard. I'll mess around with it today in a bit.
wow man you are lucky!. What does your friend do that she had the phone for a month?

download Astro File Manager from the market, choose the home icon in the upper left, then push the "up" icon..you should then be in your phones "root".
Then long press on the system folder and choose edit/copy. Copy that to your sdcard, then from your comp. zip it, n upload it to a file sharing site of your choice. I dunno if this'll help expedite any dev work but it can't hurt to have on hand..(devs please input if more is necessary or desired)

Use a file manager on the phone (Astro File Manager or EStrongs File manager) and first make a folder on the SD card called "dump".
Then navigate all the way up to where it sees all of the files and directories on the phone (just push "up" until it can't go up any further).
EDIT: Make sure and go to settings and select "show hidden files"!
Then "select all" and the copy everything to the "dump" folder that you made previously.
Copy that folder to your desktop computer.
Zip it up with WinZip or WinRAR, and then post it here.
It may be small enough to attach to a post but you may have to upload it to a file hosting site like "rapidshare" or "MegaUpload".

Can't ur gf get a HTC PRO THREE?
I couldn't dump. I tried to dump on a friends SD card but I was getting an error. I followed the directions to the T. The SD card I was using was from my friends Blackberry. I'm guessing it was some kind of formatting issue. I tried 3 times and couldn't get it to work. I'll try again later hopefully if she's still here. She's saying she's going to return the phone to her BF today.
Has anyone been able to get the screen of animation from gingerbread yet?
I maintain that this was a hoax from somone pretending to have Gingerbread... Of course everybody shoots me down because they want that silly animation for some reason... Good luck finding it.

For those wanting the screen off animation:
Get the system dump from the Nexus S section.
Open it in WinRAR.
Go to system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/anim
Copy the 74 xmls somewhere on your Desktop.
Go to the same location on whatever ROM/Theme you're using and replace the files.
Flash it in recovery.
Hope this helps.

At the moment i'm working on a live wallpaper but its a long way until its finished.
Is there a way to make it less laggy?
I really like it but it hangs a bit
@Shigster
Mh the "lags" are caused by the System , I can try to display the animation with a different speed maybe this is a workaround. But these lags are not on the same frame on every boot.
When I'm back @home i will test this and post the result.

There are two ways
Non-rooted
Push it via adb from the Android SDK
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
Rooted
Transfer the bootanimation.zip into your /data/local folder using root explorer
this is really good!
thanks

I wonder if their are any devs on XDA that wants the android system dump from off the touchpad. Hopefully we can put this to good use. Apprently people from all over are dumping and those few people wasnt the only ones.

Hope this is real. Would probably be a nice jump-start.
It is real.. sad part it I cant do anything with it.. but I wanna learn how to.
I'm downloading it now, we'll see what I can do with it. I've silently been compiling Dalvik and Chrome OS for the TouchPad and have a decent amount of experience with Assembly, cross-compiling, Java, etc. Let's get this **** done.
I guess there is some stupid bounty and everyone wants to be selfish and aim for the money. So it would be nice to get groups all over without other people yelling and trying to shut others down.
While pretty, this is utterly useless. It seems to have some userspace drivers like Wifi (woot) but it's missing the boot.img which contains the kernel. The hard part about porting Android is compiling the kernel, and this depressingly doesn't have it. All this is is a more helpful version of arm-linux-androideabi- compiled system, which is pretty normal. At least IMHO :\ I'd love to be told otherwise, though.

Alright, I can't look much more right now, but what I can tell you is that this dump has the boot.img (8.img), the system.img and the user data.img (either 12 or 13.img). It may also have a modem (?) of some sort, I've never seen the files before but looking at them, they appear to be the modem to the Evo 3D. That makes this a little...... odd?
i think the evo 3d and sensaton have the same processor as the touchpad wonder if that have something to do with what you seeing

Well it looks like Mr. Smith is the big swinging **** in the room. Since I don't know jack crap about building these ROMs I will say Thank you Sir, Looking forward to the outcome of this!!!
Thank you for posting this here, OP.
Well, I work 9-5 at a computer company so I do have to get some work done I have a good amount of reverse engineering history, programming, and hacking around history, so this is pretty fun for me.
Some random observations:
This IS from Qualcomm, there are a lot of files that mention it and even two apk's that are by them.
HP obviously had a hand in this because the device is called Topaz in the build.prop file, which was HP's codename for it.
I'll look more into it now

System Ui is under system priv-app
However google screwed with a few things battery wise. They coded it into smali or java, one of those two. So you can't just chnage images and xml anymore in system ui. There's a thread in themes and apps that does it though:
