Hey,
I've been trolling through various threads on here and other forums trying to find one standout 2.1 ROM with SenseUI.
A good 95% of the stuff said in those threads is completely over my head, like, I was wathcing the tutorial videos to root and flash my phone lol.
I have a 32A Magic with 3.22 Radio and 1.33.2005 SPL.
I'm currently running CyanogenMod 5.0.8-final Stable/Fast 2.1 which is pretty awesome but coming from Cupcake with SenseUI I do miss the 'shininess' of the Sense Widgets and UI.
Plus little things like the trackerball notification not working and not being able to change LED notification color for SMS annoy me with the CyanogenMod ROM.
Anyone have a recommendation to make?
Fair noob question I know, but I want to minimise how many times i have to flash and reflash stuff to minimise my opportunities to brick my phone.
Thanks,
I use smoki 0.6.13.1 and is fast and stable!!!

Thanks blizard80.
Quick question in regards to that ROM.
Does it allow me to set the dual functionality for the red 'End' button?
When I was running cupcake 1.5 I was able to set that on first press teh End button took me to the home screen and then on the second press it would go to sleep.
The Cyanogen ROM I am currently running does not support this, even thought the option is in available for it in configure.
This is actualyl a fairly key functionality I would like to make sure my next rom has.
So does it work in the smoki 0.6.13.1 ROM?
Thanks,
may i ask why you need this?
why don't o press red button to sleep and home button to go home?
Just that I've gotten used to doing it with the dual function. I keep pressing end when I want to go to home.
Can't teach an old dog new tricks I guess... haha!
Hello Everyone,
Im using HTC Desire with AuraxTsense 8.1.1 and ive seen a few roms with the core android contacts app. I tried using mybackup pro to back this app up and install it but it says "application not installed". Do i need to download a .zip and use recovery to install this? where could i get those files from either an .apk or a .zip.
Thanks for any help guys.
i believe the contacts is two apks contacts and contactsprovider. And you cannot get them into a sense rom by merely installing it, theres some wierd issue with it if u try to replace the senseui's contacts with it...
I know what you mean with wanting this, but if you're willing, try a different rom to see what you like at the same time? Something AOSP built. If you search there are ways to adb push the stock contact app which is what you want, but that includes the dialer which you also need if you want the contacts.
If you're willing to experiment, try a different rom. I was on AuraxTSense 8.1.1 also, but the battery drain was totally annoying. So I went to Oxygen and I haven't looked back (and has the contact app which you want). Done 18 hours on my phone today with relatively standard usage and, went down to 32%, amazing tbh.

You can try to flash the "Android_Contacts.zip" file that is found on the mini-site I built for LeeDrOiD's ROMs. I have done so in the past (flashed through recovery) and both the HTC People AND stock Android Contacts seem to co-exist in perfect harmony It simply asks you which you'd like to launch when tapping the "Phone" button for example.
Of course it would be wise to perform a Nandroid backup first just for safety's sake!
Sense should allow all that harmonies in AOSP rom too. why dont they~~
Thanks for all the replys. im gona go try that website now!! ill post how i get on.
ok tried that but just got a load of force close messages before i could even start up the app. is there any .apk on the marketplace that would do this, or even a similar app. I know you can get it on sense cause i had it on one of the sense roms that i use. I just like AuraxTsense because of the power control in the notification area.
well actually i dont understand why do you want the android dialer? Sense dialer is what people want. Well at least i want it it, want it so much but sad it cant be used on AOSP roms.
Cause i love having to click a phone app and having my dialer/contacts/recent calls all in one app and just tabbed on the top. I dont care if its the android dialer but this is the best one ive seen laid out for what i want. Is it possible to get the samsung one or a similar app?
Ricochet I totally agree on that. The standard Android dialer app is way more functional and looks nicer too IMHO. Only thing missing is T9 search. I used Dialer One from the market when I wasnt rooted, however found it to be less snappy then a standard app.

I tried that and it somewhat worked. The dialer comes up but the contacts aren't there. The favorites and call logs are populated though. I'm using an HD rom though so I'm not sure it's the same (RCmixHD)
Tust found "TouchPal Smart Dialer" in the market. The main screen is a mix of HTC with Android Contacts tabs at the top. Gonna try this out to test functionality, but the layout is awesome!
Thanks man, that app is exactly what i wanted.
I flashed this ROM and if fired up just fine after install. However, when I went to test the phone and clicked on the icon for the dialer, a popup message came up and said "this application is not installed on your phone".
I flashed the ROM, then (before rebooting the phone) I flashed the 'gapps' MOD that is associated with that ROM.
Also, I do not have the status bar across the top of the screen that shows battery level, signal strength, notifications, etc...
Also, the Green Phone button and the 'Home' button do not seem to be active.
What am I doing wrong? I really like this ROM and would like to use it.
Am currently using CMYLXGO's Stock Desire HD [LEO1024][NAND] (TMOUS)
Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
BTW - I did alot of searching the threads for a similar resolution but did not find anything.
Thanks!!
bump
wow, no takers?
I have had same prob. Going from a froyo build to gingerbread. You need to do clean install. If you restore data, you will lose phone dialer and status bar again.

thanks
Formatting the SD card did the trick...
thanks... I'm currently enjoying a healthy helping of Gingerbread on my HD2... NICE!!
hey guys,
last night about 3:30am i finally s-off and i got the rom to go onto my sdcard. i downloaded the free rom manager followed the steps on youtube. and i can really say it really works the new htc sense version. now i have a htc g2 and i love the rom it has gingerbread 2.3.3 and lots of great features. also i let me sign up to download the customs skins and wallpapers and lockscreens. it runs great. the only small problem is that when i make a phone call the other party hears an echo. and i cant use the voice activation. lets say i want to use the gps and i want to speak in my direccion like i always did on my htc g2. it doesnt work. facebook twitter all the good stuff works on this roms. this rom is the 1.0.0 version i got it from this website and its on my sd card i want to remove it to leave some room for music. i am going to keep it on for a while to see. i went and got all my games back from android market. and gps still works i can access the wifi here at the house i can make calls. lots of great features.
congrats...now you be careful not to become a flashaholic
Haha, just yesterday I flashed my first ROM, then tried a couple of others and had to restore my original backup at one point too so I understand the flashoholic term
Posting on behalf of my coworker, who has the EVO 4G. Ever since his Gingerbread update came out, his phone frequently flashes the "HTC" green icon on a white background, and then all his widgets need to reload their content.
To me it seems SenseUI is crashing, so I said I'd do a little research. The Search button isn't working for me though, so I hope someone can help!
(Oh, and if this is just "the way it is" is there a way for him to go back to stock Froyo without rooting?)
If you get the stock Rom img you put it on the root of the SD card then go into bootloader then wait for it to ask you if you want to update then push volume up for yes and van ha

Yea, I have to admit, that is annoying. Mine only does it when exiting some apps and seems to be very random. Sense doesn't actually crash, it just seems to have to reload, like it was stopped, or closed.
If he is not rooted, their is no way to go back to 2.2 though.

Thanks for the "bad news". Pulling the battery last night helped, he hasn't had any issues yet today. I'm wondering if Sense has a memory leak or if GB is unloading too much of its memory.
I was having the same problem since the OTA, (non-rooted, stock btw) constant Sense restarting when exiting apps or going to the home screen. On another forum thread's suggestion, I removed all task killer apps. In my case these were Android Assistant and Advanced Task Killer. Since removing those apps and rebooting earlier today, I have not seen Sense restart once. Give this a try if applicable and see if it helps.
Edit: As luck would have it, as soon as I posted it happened again after exiting the Amazon App Store.......back to the drawing board.
In my case it is definitely not a task killer, as I am not running any task killers. But it does act like it is shutting down like a task killer would do it. I even tried freeing up memory by uninstalling all system apps that I don't need. I now have more memory available than I ever have, yet it still keeps happening. I have a feeling that it is going to take another update from HTC to fix it.
I'm having the same issue.

If you want to believe the techs on Sprint EVO forum, they say that virus programs such as Lookout are at the root of some of these problems, the phone needs to be reset, and HTC sense requires the data to be erased through the application screen. I have doe the reset, and erase Sense data and still occasionally had the problem. I have now uninstalled Lookout to see if that eliminates the problem
I'm now on my second evo ad the update broke the first one...with the sense constantly crashing and random apps force closing I took it back to the store and demanded a new one...I'll not make the mistake of accepting anymore ota "updates"...

Update, I ran across a post on the Sprint forums in which someone said that HTC claimed that Sense being booted from memory and reloading when you exit some apps was caused by some virus programs. So I shut off Lookout security, and I haven't had the Sense reload problem since, been over a day now.
i dont use lookout and have the same problem. if i run any heavy apps, such as web browsing with many windows or streaming video via the browser, when i go to "home" sense has to restart. it could be just gingerbread shutting sense down to free up resources for heavy apps.
and yes, its bloody annoying.
After playing with it for three days now, I have determined to my own satisfaction that it is indeed an HTC Sense GB problem.
If I turn off all apps that actually do work when running in the background, like Lookout and SystemPanel, I do not get the Sense reload problem. Unfortunately, If I have any program running that is doing things when in the background, Sense gets booted from memory and has to reload. For example, I start a market download, and while waiting for it, I play a game of solitaire. When I exit out of the game, Sense has to reload, and more than likely the app download has to start over.
It appears to me that GB's memory management is just not working as good as it did in Froyo.

I continue to have the problem also. I do not have a virus program as I did I did not install one after my reset to factory. Where do we complain, on the Sprint forum.
This is the post and link to the thread I started on the Sprint forum:
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/70794
HTC Sense restarting randomly and changing the wallpaper to one that I never used on my phone, began after the first GB update. It has gotten worse after the recent update. HTC Sense restarts when leaving the market and other apps Dolphin HD Browser and others, but not in every instance.
When the phone is booting up, just before showing the lockscreenit it will show the wallpaper that is the first one in the wallpaper section the colorful one with bubbles. I have never used any of the wallpapers because I have always used the originale scene installed on the phone. Now on several occasions when the phone started it put the Wallpaper on my home screens, but did not change the apps and widgets I had on the Home Pages. Luckily I had saved my scene and was able to get it back.
My phone has been reset to factory twice, initially be me and two days ago by a Sprint tech and a sercive center.
Sprint something continues to be wrong with these updates that is affecting HTC Sense, it is broke. Please, everyone else sith HTC Sense restarting randomly or changing you wallpaper, post and describe your exact problem. Possibly we will get Sprints attention.
I took my phone to Sprint to have the cracked camera lens replaced. Instead of doing just that an idiot savant installed this gingerbread update. Not only did the update delete dozens of programs but it also caused me to have the htc logo splash page appear several times a day. I was not happy when I found out Sprint applied the update & I'm even more displeased now.
It occurs when exiting programs & entering others. However I have not been able to discern a pattern. I do have lookout installed but I do not have any task kllers installed.
